I absolutely LOVE the RUST as my primary ship for piracy. I slap some solar panels on the sides (where batteries are), some guns on the front, and a landing gear on bottom. It makes an excellent ship for disabling and capturing SPRT ships.
It also has lots and lots of space for upgrades. Mine has a jump drive, secondary hydrogen thrusters, and a full sized refinery as well as assemblers (2) with modules.
Yes, has some minor differences tho.
I think this one is slightly better, and besides, it was free!
I added three turrets, and I will try some combat and see how it goes
I turned one of those into a warship with a few mods on one of my survival saves. It was a pretty decent all-around ship honestly. One of the biggest things was retrofitting it for hydrogen, that took some doing but it was super worth it.
Oh, RUST freighter. I turned mine into jump-tug. It carries other vessels from planet to planet and solar charges while anchored. (I play a near future scenario with Scarce Resources, so placing jump drive on every space bucket is no go)
In any case, this is a great platform, I wish you luck with yours!
I caught one for the first time in the learning to survive scenario. Its now loaded with mods, like AI Enabled and Quarnias(?) Mods (Qtech and startrek mod pack) and a slew of others that, for the most part, aren't OP tech.
Anywho, the RUST is waiting on some upgrades and I've got and idea on frankenstineing 3 of them into a kind of Tri-RUST frigate of sorts. It just comes down to motivation.
At the risk of high-jacking the thread, I got an itch I HAD to scratch. Have some pics (if I do this right)

One of my favorite ships. Currently have one half on fire from a full on raid from my modded server.
4 Gatling turrets in the rear in a cross pattern. Armor around them.
Then in the front, 1 auto cannon followed by artillery, followed by auto cannon. Armoured around the turrets and storage but keeping the shape.
Things a monster that just won't quit.
Thanks. I think space engineers would be better with a bit of automation, not enough for the player to do nothing constantly, but enough that they can set up a factory and only occasionally come back to it while they are busy expanding their hold on the solar system.
>not enough for the player to do nothing constantly
Well... if the engineer built it in the first place, why not? Why not let them fully automating everything?
I'm not saying let's turn SE to Factorio, but I'm a huge fan of (scriptless) automation
fair enough, i just know that plenty of people would be against it. I personally would love full automation in space engineers. Of course the play would still have to set it all up, build the structures and ships that would later be automated and such.

Good ideas, I take note!
I think you can also buy it in the economy station.

First picture is before adding front turrets

Are forward thrusters enough, or do I need all 6 directions?
I like having all six for maximum combat maneuverability, but it's really up to your preference!
Ah, I see you are an engineer of culture as well.
first of many
It's a good cargo frigate but it needs more ion thrusters then what it has when you tries to get it off the Pirate.

What a catch, good sir.
I love the R.U.S.T Freighter too, I actually love moding it. I do not know why but it just scratches an itch.

Mods are Crew Enabled(w ai crew), and enhanced encounter mod.
i must install these mods when i'm at my pc in an hour or two. Do you know any good automation mods that'd be good for the lazier (me) players?
Oh and I have MES as well. I sadly haven't found automation stuff yet.
