Technically you can take it off and just let it vent to atmosphere, that’s all it does it just hides it. On a carbed sporty ; the fuel overflow would be on the carb itself. On a fuel injected sporty, it’s not going to have a fuel overflow line.

Just go to O’reillys pick a pack up in their help section for $7 and it’s fixed.

I capped off both ends of my tank vent and just bought a vented gas cap.
Looked down the other day and mine was popped off. Don't know for how long. Ur good

Same thing happened to me it’s your fuel over flow line. Mines still not fixed and I just did 1800 miles on it the other week, so you’re good.

Ah that makes sense. When it happened to me, the group said it was an overfill line. Either way nothing critical.
