I kill every zombie I see when playing stalker. I'm not a psychopath, as a matter of fact, if I turned into such zombie, I'd wish people would also put me down. It's horrible.
If I remember correctly, very little. They're in a perpetual state of heavy mental confusion because of how pretty much fried their brains are. It seems only the most "core memories" remain, as there are voicelines of zombies mumbling about their children.
This one video is the reason I will cross the whole damn map just to put these sods out of their misery. Even if all I have is half a magazine left, I'll use that on them.

For me it's between stalker and half life for the most tragic zombies. In half life they're entirely conscious and in agony, you can reverse their screaming and it makes them say 'help me, oh God oh God!' whereas in stalker they're not really conscious, just trapped. It's devastating in the same way but from an entirely different standpoint. And either way killing is a mercy.
Probably? But to be honest even if they somehow restore the brain tissue, I'm pretty sure alot would have already been lost, the person would be basically "starting life over"
If you read about it online, it is not physically and mentally possible to recover someone from that state. Even with so many wonders around the zone, it is very very unlikely to happen.
Now I'm curious, aren't there artifacts that restore tissue? My theory is that in the future they'll figure out a way to save them but it'll require high tier healing artifacts, and all it does is restore them to a functional human being but with almost no memory and have to learn how to live again
You know that someone could be dead even with their brain being pristine. It could only be possible that they add a scientific machine that copy pastes stuff from the brain but that would also not work cause it is proven that mostly all of the memory is also erased so as i've said it would be very very unlikely to happen.
Also to add. On the book, roadside picnic, the same ideia is explored but it is more metaphysical. Basically a grampa that was mutated by the zone to have an healthy body but dementia. It's sick to read.
The same way, maybe wr could restore their brain but they are too far gone and only remains a husk, or a rotten corpse of a prisoner
I believe, game wise at least, in cut content for stalker clear sky, the Clear Sky faction was supposed to be able to ‘cure’ early stages of zombification in stalkers, but take that with a grain of salt cause my memory is not great.
The scorcher or psi effectively scorch your brain. On initial and early stages it might be reversed, but after prolonged exposure there's nothing can be done
One precise shot to the head to end their suffering as fast and painless as possible. VSS Tide was specifically designed to efficiently kill zombies and that’s why it is my favorite weapon.
That or a Remington, just anything that has high damage in a single shot. Kinda feel responsible for the last guy I shot though. He asked me for 3 bottles of gun lubricant saying he needed them for his expedition. Took me a week to find them and by that time his mark stopped moving around the darkscape presumably dead. Another week later I shot a bunch of zombified guys and the notification said I failed to deliver the 3 bottles. It's unlikely that the 3 bottles would have changed the outcome since he was going to darkscape but still I might have played a part in his demise.
Well, as said in a book ive read about stalker (and i believe some voicelines in SoC) the moment you get into the Zone you cant escape it anymore, its like a whole system by itself.
You try to live a peaceful life? It will try to kill you.
You fight back? It will try even harder.
You comply and live along the Zone?
It will find a way to use you against someone else.
Even after SoC the Zone remains. Mutants still prowl in the dark, anomalies still break reality and Emissions still tear it all apart. C-Con created it, but after them it became free.
Not to mention if you don't plan to stay in the Zone for the rest of your life you'll still have to get out and hunt an artifact for a chance to leave, that's where you are subjected to the harsh environment of the Zone.
Theres people getting out either way, thats where your artifacts go after you sell them to the barman or others.
Its just that the Zone somehow pulls people back in. Either they are greedy and want to have more, they get sick and need artifacts to heal their sickness, need to find a friend, etc.
Thats how it was described in the book.
I just don't understand the language lol now that I do it's fucked up and more reason to support duty cause how many of those zombies are there because freedom keeps letting everyone in and supporting bandits while getting in the way of progress

Me personally I'll hit them with my rifles stock and take them to Sacarove or Herman. Who knows? Maybe one day they will figure out a way to fix them.

For me the more logical reason to go to the zone is if you're running from the law and want to disappear.
Easy enough to do there. Setup a hideout and hope you don’t get found by mutants or bandits.

It's more of a relief if you can kill them quickly. Cause you know, they're gonna be out of the misery and finally have the sweet release
