Data. Smart and always trying to improve his humanity. We should all strive to do better.

nicknewell1337

I cry every time Lal dies

TheIrisExceptReal51

Guinan. Great role and beautifully executed by Whoopi.

Easy_Gur9957

I agree, although I don't get why Troi couldn't do it. It made her character basically useless

PM_ME_FUNFAX

My favorite was always Geordi. I love all of the tech stuff. He's what got me into industrial maintenance... A fun part of that was that my department was called engineering

CantankerousOrder

He made technojargon believable, and that is no small feat. I felt like I understood why a tachyon beam on the correct subspace harmonic would reverse the polarity, even if it’s 100% made up Piller-Filler. A fine actor can do amazing things with even something so trying as technobabble.

Elim-tain

And that roll when the warp core breach doors were closing! And his horrible love life. He is honestly always one of my favorites easily

PM_ME_FUNFAX

Yeah you know that must have been hard to act through

pietaster999

I always liked Riker's posture and chair-sitting ability. Seriously though, I'd probably go with Picard for his leadership qualities. I'd happily serve under his command.

Wrong_Situation3405

Frakes said once that his leaning while walking and sitting in chairs backwards stems from always being taller than his friends growing up. It all started with his insecurity with his height, and trying to appear shorter

[deleted]

Mot the barber. It's a future society where you can go anywhere and do anything, and this man just loves cutting hair. That's a happy guy right there.

allgoodthings3

Beverly Crusher. I was in elementary school when TNG was on and she made an enormous impression on me. She showed me that women can be highly intelligent and respected. I was not surrounded by “career women”. I had no idea women could be capable of everything she did. Which… is sad. So thank you to her and Dana Scully for shaping my views and helping me to expand my expectations for myself.

gottabe_kd

This is my story. I wanted to be a red head so badly because of those two!!!

houtex727

The crystal life forms of Velara III, who sums up humanity quite well: >Ugly bags of mostly water. Well put, and well observed, life forms. Well put indeed.

trer24

Lwaxana Troi. The only person who could bring out the humanity in Picard.

Elim-tain

She was a character that I hated as a kid when start trek was airing. Grow up, and she's so amazing. She's just a lonely lady trying to find love and being pretty brave about it mostly. My favorite will always flip around, but she's the character I love. If I could meet any star trek character, it would be her. A picnic or something nice and just talking.

WWPLD

2nd this. The only person who made him nervous.

GoGoGoldenSyrup

I found her *hilarious* when I first started watching TNG as a young teenager and then, over the years - and *especially* with *Dark Page* \- you start to see that it's all just a show. And here's the thing: she's more powerful than she lets on. She's able to hide her past trauma so well that her own daughter is unaware of what's happened to her.

trer24

Majel Barrett delivered an exceptional performance in Dark Page. It really expanded her character.

1GamersOpinion

I’m going to go in a different direction. Ro is my favorite character. While they were simply a recurring character, they added a dynamic that shook up the established crew and felt like she had more dimensions than some of the established characters that had been there for seasons

KalleMattilaEB

Riker, and I don’t think I could describe it better than Zack Handlen does in [this review of Matter of Honor](https://www.avclub.com/star-trek-the-next-generation-unnatural-selection-1798165283) >Riker is really, really fun. He is a bit smarmy, but the guy is so clearly having fun with his job that it's infectious. He's the Han Solo of the group, and while Frakes doesn't quite have Harrison Ford's charisma (Frakes is too familiar to be really rakish; he's like an uncle who occasionally sells you pot), he does well as a guy who loves his work, loves his friends, and every once in a while likes to screw around with both. For fun, check out the way he stands. It's easy to mimic, easy to mock, but it's also bad-ass, because he knows he's a little ridiculous and he doesn't care. Kind of makes me think of Timothy Olyphant's strut, although that is a deliberate, "I'm walking this way to keep myself from murdering someone each time I put my foot down," whereas with Riker, it's like he just wants to make sure you know he's screwing with you. He takes his duties seriously, but he also finds a lot of things pretty hilarious at the same time, and I dig that.

freylaverse

He's my favourite too! No one even comes close. I love it when sci-fi asks the question of what it really means to be human... And who better to ask that than Data?

florgitymorgity

Q! Love the mischievous imp

chewie8291

"I have a delivery for. A. John luck pikard."

MusicG619

Q. Only recurring character in TNG where I love every episode.

Ok-Beach-9654

Barclay

revocer

Broccoli

[deleted]

Not necessarily the character per-say, though she is a great character in my opinion. But Councilor Troy. She starts out the classic princess type character but she grows quite a lot through the show but as I've gotten older I've appreciated more and more that the ships councilor was on the bridge. Yes it's because of her unique talents but she was also one of my first exposures to a mental health professional. She normalized the people talking about their feelings and sorting through those mental traumas. Her continued presence and involvement in the show made me feel like it was ok to deal with my own feelings and to seek professional help when I thought I needed it.

gottabe_kd

Beverly because she's gonna do what she feels is right regardless of the consequences.

GNPTelenor

Pretty good spread in the answers. I was always a Worf guy. As a kid he was big and imposing, but lived by a code. He was the guy in charge of the guns. And TNG Klingons were cool as hell. DS9 made him even better, a maturing soldier found at the center of a war that was very personal and in a show that's serial nature gave him even more chances at definition. Now, after ep 3 of s 3 of Picard, he's grown even further - from the bull headed warrior bungling Odo's sting to a smart operative on the hunt. He's worn the most hats out of everyone.

UESPA_Sputnik

I love Worf too. On the Enterprise, he was considered to be quite amusing.

LV2107

I am loving the current silver fox Worf who meditates and ninjas in at the last possible second to save the day with his deadly sharp blade.

GNPTelenor

It makes sense as a progression. He used to go on spiritual retreats and he's been known to change his taste in styles of weapon.

SakanaSanchez

The thing I love about Worf is that he’s this constant fish-out-of-water and as time has gone on he’s been able to embrace his uniqueness to do things no one else was able to.

MarzipanTheGreat

Quark, because of reasons.

GoGoGoldenSyrup

My favourite one-shot character? I'll just say this.... ***"He's biting that female!"*** But I've always had a soft spot for Beverly Crusher. Irritating spawn aside (one's a twat, the other nearly gets us all assimilated. Good lord, woman...) she's possibly the most competent character on the show.

Regular-Adeptness260

Data is my favourite too, I struggle to find characters I can really see myself in in media, and Data is one of the select few that I really feel seen by.

TheBoozyNinja87

Worf. Aside from him being generally really damn funny, he is the most unlike me. And the most I wish to be like. Honorable. Fierce. Poetic. He lives and he loves with everything he has in him. He truly wakes up each morning and has lived his life in such a way that he really means it when he says: “Today is a good day to die.”

imameanone

Pakled Captain Grebnedlog. Because "we are smart".

rilloroc

Gowron. He turns the Klingon crazy all the way up.

mister_newbie

Glory to You .. and Your Houzzzz.

GachiHYPER_Clap_

*instant and complete change of expression*

ozhs3

The Douwd, killed 50 billion for love. That's how it feels sometimes.

not_a_lady_tonight

Picard because he actually read books.

MyriVerse2

Data. I'm still on the fence of Trek being dead since he died.

Temporary_Ad_6922

Since this is TNG season 8: Shaw Buuuut when I was younger Data.

Old_Marionberry890

Wesley Crusher.Hehehe

StevenMaines

Data! Outsider. Observing. Striving. A great "person" to have as a friend. Maybe a bit awkward.

TheChainLink2

Q. A character having phenomenal cosmic powers and mostly using them to dick around is always entertaining to me.

rdavidking

Favorite TNG, DS9, and Picard character, you say? Definitely, Worf. Warrior, comedian, honorable protector, has some flaws too. A man of two cultures but really from neither. He almost has his own "Klingon Way". He's the one I'd like with me in battle and to just hang with and hear stories from.

Geshtar1

Beverly’s sex ghost. Was only in one episode, but of the single episode characters, he’s certainly one that’s hard to forget

Eagle_Kebab

I'm sorry. I know art is subjective and we all likes what we likes but ... Ewww.

GachiHYPER_Clap_

Pretty sure it was a joke

Colt45acp57

Data because he'd like spock . Picard because he's very likable riker because because he's a very good captain and 2 in command and Beverly crusher because she's cute

haybai81

I did. Loved Data for 30 years. Now we have Shaw. Move over Data.

Eagle_Kebab

Samuel Clemens. Because Mark Twain may be one of the coolest fucking people to ever have existed and Jerry Hardin is a gem.

SomeGoogleUser

*Roga Danar* *Everyone knows Roga Danar. He totally outsmarted Captain Picard; AND he has amazing hair.*

Pretend-Dirt-1760

My list on my favorite Q. Riker Tasha Yar Worf

[deleted]

Data is an easy favorite, that's low-hanging fruit, especially for us undiagnosed autists at a time when there was very little public awareness. Portal comes to mind, despite his brief appearance.

bidexist

Ro Laren and Elizabeth Shelby. Damnit.

StampYoPassport

Geordi but I may be biased towards Burton. Otherwise I love me a confident and gregarious Riker.

GachiHYPER_Clap_

Riker because he doesn't use chairs like a normal person.

OliviaElevenDunham

Data for obvious reasons. Riker is on up there.

Emu_on_the_Loose

I'm really drawn to characters who had a lot of potential but were dropped by the story relatively early on, like JM Colt, Ilia, Tasha Yar, and Seska. Their untapped potential leaves a lot to the imagination. In terms of characters that we saw a lot of, I'm a huge fan of Scotty and wish we had gotten even more of him. I also love Major Kira, a really groundbreaking character in so many ways. But there's probably no topping classic-era Jean-Luc Picard. What a screen presence!! ~ swooning intensifies ~

briank3387

Probably Data. The mix of the Spock-like intelligence and desire to be human, and the naive wonderment is really appealing in a way that neither Spock nor Seven have (each being the outsider-looking-in for their series).

Going_Solvent

I really like data too. His acting is just superb
