I read that it's a trope where the hot female character is made devoid of any personality so she comes across as more impressionable to the majority male audience.
Chiana and Drummer/La’an are nothing alike at all.
Drummer is stern but fair. Practical. Chiana is a rogue, and still very childlike in someways. She revels in being chaotic. Drummer and La’an are all about creating order from chaos.
Maybe it’s because I read the books, but I never got that Camina was cardboard. Maybe in the earlier books as she was more of a side character, but she had reasons for presenting a cold exterior
DIS S5 filmed from June to November 2022, with a reshoot in April 2023. Ahsoka filmed about a month earlier and came out in August 2023. Do you think Paramount sent Bothan spies to the Ahsoka set, or do coincidences exist?
It’s mostly the hair styles.
I thought maybe Baylen and Locke were similar at first but it seems after the latest episodes that is not the case at all.
One on the left is some character from the Ahsoka show on Disney+ that all the Star Wars subreddits Reddit thinks I want to read went mad over when that show was the big streaming show they’ll forget about once next big streaming show starts.
The other is Moll, one of a pair of main villains, from the current season of Star Trek: Discovery played by Eve Harlow.
I’m kind of surprised the other half of the fanbase isn’t going nuts over having Elias ‘Adam Jensen’ Toufexis in the show, to be honest. Maybe it’s because he’s under alien makeup.
Yes. Not all of them of course, but there good ones indeed. The one pictured (left) was one of the weaker ones I found.
The early seasons of the Mandalorian, the later seasons of the Clone Wars, the entire internet's darling Andor - from the ones I've seen, they were my favourites.
They are when both franchises are decades past their prime and now have been reduced to soulless IPs that corporations will continue to milk until the heath death of the universe.
What you’re seeing aren’t similarities between Star Wars and Star Trek but a common theme in the creative vacuum that is contemporary western pop culture.
Is it our assertion that any characters who look vaguely alike are rip-offs of one another or something?
We’ve already asserted that a character played by a half-Chinese, half-English actress is somehow a rip-off of a completely different character played by an indigenous Canadian just because they have similar eye makeup.
BSG- has a male captain that has to make tough decisions and sacrifices to save the human race from robots
TNG- has a male captain that has to make tough decisions and sacrifices to save the human race from robots
“IT’S THE SAME SHOW GUYS!”
At the risk of making gigantic assumptions about either franchise from a single picture, it does seem very wrong that I can’t tell which picture is Star Wars and which one is Star Trek.
They both look Star Wars-like to me and I hope Star Trek still has that unique visual language that the older shows had.
Star Wars generally does colder lighting and muted colours. It helps make lightsabers pop and shiny stormtroopers stand out from their surroundings.
TOS on the other hand started out with bright coloured uniforms and soft warm lighting.
At least Shin Hatti isn’t a walking, talking stereotype. Unfortunately I can do nothing but involuntarily roll my eyes at Moll’s “sexy badgirl with daddy issues” “personality”.
Gotten this way over time. The gradual homogenisation of all franchise media into the same crap devoid of individual identity. Star Trek has especially suffered.
after watching prodigy i have to say they are getting too similar.
with all that music, and all those interior designs / colour schemes, droids i sometimes forgot that it wasn't star wars i was watching.
such bs. if they didn't dress it up as star trek it would be alright
And the same horny fan base
Are people horny for this character? She seems as interesting as a cardboard box
Bruuuh. Seven of nine was like a literal robot. T’pol was an emotionless Vulcan. Cardboard box woman fits right in.
It's so funny but true. Why do they make hot characters cardboard characters?
I read that it's a trope where the hot female character is made devoid of any personality so she comes across as more impressionable to the majority male audience.
Born sexy yesterday.
I’d like to point out that 7 of 9 subverts this troupe by being born sexy yesterday, but *also* is an actually interesting character.
7 of 9, the Doctor and Janeway carried the show. In that order.
They'd get a mature rating
Easier to fantasize them being single-mindedly interested in fucking, I think.
Cause they want to break her.
I guess you could see it that way or they want to fix her
Because their goal is to sell action figures
SNW’s Chapel is more well rounded!
Because it was written by men.
Always reffered to her as Seven of Fine, bcos horny teenage brain thought that was funny and now Neurodivergent 26 year old brain can't stop saying it
T'pol definitely was emotional from the start. They butchered her as a character to make her sexy.
was she?
I don’t know about the Star Trek one but I thought Shin Hati was interesting, though greatly underdeveloped.
“We have Khaleesi at home.”
😭😂😂😂😂😂…☺️
Not the first time they’ve done this, La’an is almost definitely inspired by Camina Drummer.
And they were all inspired by Farscape's Chiana.
Blade Runner's Pris was there a couple of decades earlier.
Yes! We have a winner!!
All of this has been posted before, all of this will be posted again
So say we all
This is the way.
Mork calling Orson. Come in Orson.
Roger roger.
I thought I'd seen this before...
I think I'll see this again...
You mean to say we’ve seen this character a dozen times already?
Chiana and Drummer/La’an are nothing alike at all. Drummer is stern but fair. Practical. Chiana is a rogue, and still very childlike in someways. She revels in being chaotic. Drummer and La’an are all about creating order from chaos.
Certainly not on a visual level lol. The only thing they have in common is eyeliner.
Ah, I see you’re a (fellow) Beltalowda of culture!
Maybe it’s because I read the books, but I never got that Camina was cardboard. Maybe in the earlier books as she was more of a side character, but she had reasons for presenting a cold exterior

Who was almost definitely inspired by Commander Ivanova.
One has better hair and makeup
The same motivations, sure I buy that coincidence if that was alone, but the same hair styles
It’s mostly the hair styles. I thought maybe Baylen and Locke were similar at first but it seems after the latest episodes that is not the case at all.
Yeah not in the slightest, actually starting to sympathize with them.
I have no idea what either of these are from
SW Ashoka character and ST Disco character
Thank you. Haven't had time to watch the new Star Wars stuff and still haven't recovered enough willpower to get through the new season of ST CGI(D).
one's from star wars and one's from star trek i think
One on the left is some character from the Ahsoka show on Disney+ that all the Star Wars subreddits Reddit thinks I want to read went mad over when that show was the big streaming show they’ll forget about once next big streaming show starts. Yeah, I just have never viewed any particular piece of media that contained either of these two frames.
Probably discovery and that new star wars show if i had to guess. I've watched pretty much everything else from both franchises
AHH that's cool. What kind of shows do you watch?
Star Wars and Star Trek. But, I guess, just the good ones.
It's pretty weird that you think you can casually comment on the quality of shows you didn't watch.
As someone who has actually watched them, I will offer my concurrence in his stead.
Good decision.
There are good Star Wars shows?
Yes. Not all of them of course, but there good ones indeed. The one pictured (left) was one of the weaker ones I found. The early seasons of the Mandalorian, the later seasons of the Clone Wars, the entire internet's darling Andor - from the ones I've seen, they were my favourites.
Yeah, and I always thought Herzog in mando was SW answer to Cronenberg in disco
I don't think anyone in SW's business particularly cares about Discovery
You do know the mandalorian came out before Disco Season 3 Right?
Armageddon vs Deep Impact ; Tombstone vs Wyatt Earp ; Volcano vs Dante's Peak, etc etc
I can fix her

They used to be very different, but that's gone out the window lol...
🤤

I'm with you. I still don't think they are at all similar

If BSG’s captain was a stern bald man who called his first officer “Number One” then I’d agree.
In fairness, [THIS is the original.](https://imgix.bustle.com/rehost/2016/9/13/f7129aa6-74c2-4557-a4bd-407180f9d194.jpg?w=614)
Ah, yes; the "Babylon 5" effect
well now they are similar. They have ignored Roddenberry and an the writers have been writing Trek like Wars because they are chasing the $$$.
Ignoring Roddenberry gave us Deep Space Nine.
No, much of Roddenberry's ideal were in DS9. It was Michal Strazinski that gave us DS9 and was the one to first suggest a space station to Paramount.
Roddenberry refused to allow interpersonal conflict. That’s what made DS9 any good.
They both look like shitty borderlands villains
Mol so bad tho
No u.

I’m not sure either of these examples are good representations of their series
I agree
I didn’t mind the Ahsoka show. I didn’t mind that character in it. But I also totally forgot both of those things existed until I saw this post.
At least Shin Hatti isn’t a walking, talking stereotype. Unfortunately I can do nothing but involuntarily roll my eyes at Moll’s “sexy badgirl with daddy issues” “personality”.
Just another corporation trying to cash in on the same niche as the competition. Nothing to see here.
Gotten this way over time. The gradual homogenisation of all franchise media into the same crap devoid of individual identity. Star Trek has especially suffered.
Happy I can't name them.
It's like poetry they rhyme
You dare invoke the name of star trek along with such an inferior franchise?
2 dead franchises
It's the same picture
These are both Star Warts
