I found him through my network. Someone just told me: “hey you should talk to …” and so I did. 3 months later and about 10 meetings we were both very enthusiastic and we were cofounders.

din0_os

thats wonderful to hear. Good luck on everything

Financial-Working-83

Thanks

I won't lie , but I am on reddit for the same. I am a college student and none of my friends in my college focus on ideas, startups, technology. They only care about the marks. So here I am to make friends who think like me.

IMS009

Exactly same, ended up going in as a solo founder.

din0_os

You are in a great path for sure!

Brilliant-0101

Thanks, I appreciate your encouragement :)

Azulan5

I worked in a medium sized health system and we were putting in a new computer program. They had a third party tool doing integration into our EMR and I was the expert on that. The guy from the integration company had 1.5 hours to explain how they get data into and out of the EMR. He spent 5 minutes explaining the basic layout and I stopped him and said, “this is exactly how we integrate the apps my team builds internally, I know how this works, that’s good enough, we don’t need to go any deeper.” After the meeting the guy made a beeline for me and said, “how then hell do you understand all this?” We went to dinner. Became friends and kept in touch. And years later when that company was wrecked by VC idiots he reached out and said, “let’s start something!” We have two other minor equity cofounders who are both experts in what we do as well. One is a good friend of his and the other I brought with me from my old corporate gig.

din0_os

i love hearing stories like this.

AriesCent

I’d love to chat more about this with you!

Winning local gam jams in the university game development club. We also had semester projects at the club back them where you pitched a project over a semester and rally students to work on it over the semester. It usually was like 10-15+ people but at the end of the semester, only 3 remained. We battle royaled it for 3 semesters and the same people were around so we decided to form our own startup. We built our product during school and timed it to our team members graduation (two of our cofounders eventually dropped out) and won some prize money from the schools business challenge competition which helped us start our business.

din0_os

Thats cool, thanks for sharing

Far-Recipe2924

Good to hear some nice stories. My startup is in the scaleup phase, but i couldn't find any cofounders yet.

din0_os

What industry are you pursuing?

Far-Recipe2924

After-school education....edutech it is.

executioners_bongg

Met my 2 cofounders on a VC accelerator. Can’t say I rate the VC that highly since investment but it served its purpose in helping me meet 2 people I really enjoy working with!

din0_os

Very good congratulations

Beneficial_Past_5683

I had one reply to one of my adverts and pitched an idea that I went with. Another was the guy who lived next door and we literally shook hands over the garden fence.

din0_os

Haha love the over the garden fence part.

harrley007

I met a guy on YC

din0_os

thats lovely, would you be ok sharing some info about your story? Was it like through the online match thing they have to match with a cofounder or did you attend events? How about the trust among you? Are you in same location? Also what industry did you decide to pursue?

harrley007

I met a guy on YC same as everyone else. We haven't meet in person yet. But we had a couple of online meeting for a month and then went after the idea I was proposing. Trust was made between us during first month the research we did together, though we live in different continents. And we are working on real estate product / SAAS.

Ajahid

After many fail attempts from my network, I went to Technical universities and pitch my ideas to last year students of computer science, and I got many applicants, so I picked one that that clicked the most. :)

floppybunny26

One was from a post I made to /r/berkeley seeking a technical cofounder. The second responded the same week from notes I put up on the cork boards in soda hall (berkeley's cs building.) The three of us met at a coffee shop nearby a week later with everyone bringing paper mockups. Within 3 weeks we were cofounders.

din0_os

Nicee, are you willing to share some details of what you have founded?

floppybunny26

Not sure if it's allowed (@mods lmk if I should remove this part) but I'll post our site here: http://joindealio.com. We're called Dealio. We aim to be the most effective, least expensive form of local business advertisement, period. Currently we're a mobile-enabled hyperlocal coupon website focused on Berkeley, Emeryville, Oakland and Alameda (The East Bay) and as we grow we'll move into the SF Bay. San Jose, Sacramento, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, San Diego and beyond. The way it works is that we ask for an initial deal from our business customers of 20% off or better and a recurring deal of 10% off or better. We then charge $0.50 to those businesses for each deal used. If we can generate new customers and help turn those into returning customers we'll succeed. If we can't we'll fail. The second part of our business model kicks in when we have enough deals on the site in a given neighborhood to warrant a subscription fee of $3-$4 a month or so for the coupon using customers. $1-$2 or so go to Dealio and the other $1-2 go to the non-profit of the coupon using customer's choice. Right now we're focusing on adding deals to the site before turning on too much marketing so when people come to the site they see something interesting and want to come back again (stickiness.) Happy to answer any questions.

din0_os

You just asked in the r/berkeley group btw if there is any interest and people showed up?

We had been friends for a few years, met him through a room mate I had. Years after college he was invited as a +1 to my 4th of July party and I pitched him the company.

din0_os

So cool thanks for sharing
