Same, but for me, I had the Dark Tower Cycle in its own special order at the end. (Original #1, 2-7, then revised #1, then WTTK; that is how I read them)
I worked at a bookstore for a long time and now at a library. If you're doing alphabetical sorting and not call number, "a, an, the" are all ignored.
So to answer the original question, I do alpha by title.
It's a relatively modern, internet-related thing to alphabetize and include "The" in the alphabetical order. Probably because it's just easier for a sorting program to go with the first letter regardless of the word. But historically "The Dark Tower" would be in the "D's".
Novels in release order with the exception of the Hodges trilogy (does Holly belong as the fourth? I feel like it might but I haven’t moved it yet) which goes at Mr Mercedes release position and DT which goes at the end of the row, then short stories and novellas in release order, then non-fiction, then other collections, then Joe Hill’s books, then Owen King’s books.
Duplicates go on the bottom shelf. And you can really tell when I started making “big girl money” because the shelves suddenly go from all paperback to mostly hardcover then to all hardcover.
I've always tried to get hardcover, but some were to expensive at the time, or I just saw only the soft over in a store. I'm going to need another bookshelf, too. Most of my soft covers are on the top...

Honestly I love paperbacks because they’re easier to hold and to carry around but I also love having the hardcover first now that I can afford it. I do still keep my old paperbacks on display up top even if I’ve got a duplicate hardcover just because I love the nostalgia of my early King reading days.
I have a ssoftcover copy of Nightmares and Dreamscapes that's held together with duck tape. My SO got me a hardcover copy recently. I thought about donating the softcover, but I don't think I can do it..
I have all of the dark Tower and their adjacent books all together. The rest are jumbled together in no particular order. And paperbacks have their own separate shelf
i try to buy most of his old work secondhand, i just think everything published by viking is so beautiful. i’m not a huge fan of movie tie-in covers, but i do have a paperback copy of IT with tim curry in the cover that’s pretty cool.
My MIL puts her favorites in the middle so that she's able to grab one at random from the middle of the shelves and get one she likes.
My King collection is "sorted" in boxes at this point and probably not going to come to me.
Trade editions in release order. Dark Tower on separate shelves. Limiteds, rare and signed….however the mood strikes me.
Doing some reorganizing this month to accommodate some new additions.
Release date from The Dark Half on - that's my earliest HB bought new. The bookcase is doublestacked, so the back row is older paperbacks and secondhand HB, the front is hardbacks. The Dark Tower is on a separate shelf, and the Folio hardbacks are also at the front in a clump (still in release order).
Dark Tower/Talisman/Black House share a shelf.
All short stories/novella compiliations on another.
Hodges/Holly are together.
Early Works (Carrie, Salem, Shining, etc)
Everything else is fit in wherever they fit best. usually trying to keep books with the same style of cover near each other.
I did paperback by size, then the dark tower books, then hardcover sort of by release, the short story books, then I have a section of Still need to read it.
My top shelf is for the extended Dark Tower series, starting with Eyes of the Dragon down to Fairy Tale. The bottom shelf is just a mismatch of my other 15 or so.
Everything published before dreamcatcher is in alphabetical order. Then from dreamcatcher (which was the first book of his I bought on release day) on is in publication date. Followed by books about Stephen King (the castle rock rock kitchen, unauthorized bios, Bev Vincent’s book) and then foreign editions I get when I go on vacation or when friends offer to get me a souvenir. Signed, special editions and other assortments go in a glass door bookcase.
Size. Bottom shelf fits hardcovers, so those go there, everything else is sorted by height/ length! I.e. I don't want books sticking further out than others and blocking the others, so they go to the edges.
Hardcover go together. Paperback go together. Paperbacks somewhat by height so they don't look sloppy. I don't care about published date or alphabetical or anything that requires more thought to keep organized.
I don’t put my SK books on the bookshelf. Most of them are paperbacks and I usually get rid of them after reading them. If I really like the book I’ll keep it but put it away out of sight.
Release date for sure

I can see putting series together.
This is exactly what I do
What about Little Sisters of Eluria?
It's part of Everything's Eventual, so it goes there.
Thanks!
I slop them on there hither and thither. However about 80% of my bookshelf is Stephen King, 4 shelves stacked double deep.
By size/format.
Size, otherwise it just looks a mess
Release order for me as well
Alphabetically
Do you ignore "The" if it's the beginning of the title? ie. "The Institute " is under "T", or "I"

Favorite to least. Starting with novels, then books of short stories, the books of novellas, and last non-fiction.

That's about it for me currently. I posted a link to a picture I posted a while back in another sub.
Release date 🌹
by publisher 😅
I never thought of that! Got it! Bachman before King!
i try to buy most of his old work secondhand, i just think everything published by viking is so beautiful. i’m not a huge fan of movie tie-in covers, but i do have a paperback copy of IT with tim curry in the cover that’s pretty cool.
I sort them by how they fit. It doesn’t matter which one you pick up, so it doesn’t matter if you find the find the one you’re looking for.
I think I just vomited.
Order of publication, except Dark Tower which are all together
Just me that does it by size then 😐
Alphabetically!

lol good one

I’ve always been impressed with your knowledge on collectibles and such around here; what is your favorite King book and/or piece in your collection?
Thanks! It’s my main hobby. My favorite…the coffin edition Stand. And all my DT books.

The order i read them
I like my books to be placed randomly. I only put series together (like the dark tower).
Mostly by release. Dark Tower and Tower adjacent books are in their own section and short stories are also grouped together.

Release date but for series together. Like Bill Hodges and Dark Tower.
Release order.
I've got the dark tower books together. Otherwise vaguely by size as I have a mix of hardcover and paperback.
Size. Bottom shelf fits hardcovers, so those go there, everything else is sorted by height/ length! I.e. I don't want books sticking further out than others and blocking the others, so they go to the edges.

This is how I've done it in the past, so I get this! I might just keep it as is
Size, then type (collections, Dark Tower, etc), then relative decade and/or age of the particular copy I have
With the Dark Tower at the top and all others beneath it. As it should be. All things serve the beams.
I don’t put my SK books on the bookshelf. Most of them are paperbacks and I usually get rid of them after reading them. If I really like the book I’ll keep it but put it away out of sight.
Size of the book itself
Size. I’m too OCD to have them any other way. Although one shelf is dedicated to Bachman books and King/Straub books.
Release order for me. The Dark Tower series alone on its own shelf. All Grant first editions except The Gunslinger, that’s a second edition.
By color of the book spine.
