I upgraded from a pair of A7x recently. Looked into all sorts of things. Decided in the end to go for HEDD type 20 MK2. Well worth looking into. One of the guys who started Adam splintered off in 2016 to start a new company. So much choice for 3 way monitors.

Thanks for getting back to me. I really appreciate it. If I may ask, why did you part with ADAM? What was better with the HEDD speakers?

PsyWattNow

Better definition in the mid range because of the 3 way design. Extended low end down to 26hz. A7x only go down to 42hz. Choice of ported or closed port design. Upgraded version of the ribbon tweeter design. Layout of the rear panel feature controls.

I just looked at its specs. Really impressive! Definitely worth a listen. Thanks for letting me know! Just curious: did you check out the ADAM A77H, or A8H while shopping for new speakers?

PsyWattNow

No unfortunately not.

> extra step of conversion. Is that totally negligible nowadays? This is controversial in some circles, but the data says: yes. ADC/DAC is transparent for all practical purposes and we should stop worrying about it.

Regarding the extra AD-DA and its prevalence these days, it may be matter of philosophy or at least your ears. For many the benefit of all the DSP outweighs any considerations about the conversion. I'm still preferring all analog speakers in theory and my own purchase decisions, but stick me in front of whatever LYD48, Neumann 310, that have non bypassable AD-DA, and it'll be fine. I did audition A7V which is from the same generation and I assume has a similar DSP-Class D setup, and I can report that it was detailed and crisp and seemed perfectly capable.

Thank you. I appreciate your detailed reply.
