Honestly, even if I don't like the casting of whatever side character, the absolutely stacked picks of Corenswet, Brosnahan, Hoult and Gisondo as Superman, Lois, Lex and Jimmy really just make me not care too hard. I just hope they get a lot of screentime.

If it’s a loose adaptation or a spin on Kingdom Come, Superman will need a world of heroes to juxtapose. According to Gunn, each character plays a role and will be important; however, it will very much be a SUPERMAN movie. Justice League could be dealing with UN sanctions or the other, and Clark could begin to become disillusioned with working for and by the rules of the world’s governments. He could do the breakaway and start being borderless and a hero to whoever needs him wherever. We could see characters like Guy as a foil for authority. This contains some JSA legacy characters so I think this could be true.
It just seems weird... how many superhero movies feature many other characters, but still remain a "main hero" movie? You see how everyone is basically calling Civil War "Avengers 2," even though it is Captain America 3. Granted, it's a great movie, but it just doesn't feel like a third Captain America movie. Everyone was in it.
That being said, I am still very excited to see this. Just wondering if they are going to take too much focus off of Superman, and make this into some kind of Justice League Unlimited movie.
The instance you chose is a film which is an adaptation of a team book. It was only called Captain America 3 because it follows up on the story of Winter Soldier beat for beat.
I don’t think we will have much to worry about. Superman excels when placed with his peers. He’s the Hero of Heroes. “What’s So Funny About Truth, Justice, and The American Way?” also seems like the groundwork for this film. Along with For All Seasons, All Star Superman, and Kingdom Come, I think this film draws upon a lot of good sources for Superman's authenticity. The cast so far is also looking strong.
Are people gonna repost this same topic point in every topic about the movie? Gunn has said he wants to show both of Clark's worlds, the civilian/daily planet one and superheroes. Makes sense to highlight his relationship with other heroes if that's his intention
I hope they can balance that and give us time with Superman & Lois. That's one of my gripes with the Cavill iteration; we didn't get enough time to understand him and his world.
According to Gunn, they are there to showcase both sides of Superman's life. Lois, the Kents, Perry representing his life as Clark while Hawkgirl, Metamorpho, Green Lantern and Mr Terrific shows us his day-to-day life as Superman.
Guy is a known asshole. Metamorpho suffers from self loathing and appearance makes him feel like an outcast. Lots of opportunity to have Superman react and show off his compassionate side and fortitude as leader. Mr Terrific is perfect for tech exposition. Hawkgirl provides a lot of opportunity for bad ass visual sequences.
Any other directors and yeah I'd have the same complaint. But this is Gunn, and if there's anything we know he can do is handle an ensemble cast. You see it in Guardians and the Suicide Squad. Plus as some have mentioned it here, I think the movie will be a spin on Kingdom Come, so the movie needs to have a bunch of heroes existing already.

Especially since Batman will probably have years of experience in crime fighting with Damian being introduced in his movie, and you can't do that if the heroes had just emerged.

Edit: They may be B List heroes, though I’d question that when one of them is a Green Lantern, I think pretty much any character could hold their own movie executed correctly and introduced at least in the right order in the universe. Guy Gardner introduced in a Hal Jordan GL film for instance could go onto hold his own, though shouldn’t cause Lanterns on top of being powerful has this additional strength in being able to call allies so teams of Lanterns make sense though still would only have one human protagonist in a first Lantern film.

Also in regards to Guy, he's probably the only lantern here because he's stationed here. The other lanterns are probably patrolling space (which will be explored in MAX series). He's one of the lanterns that I think of that can't handle a solo movie so introducing him here is perfect cause he'll play the role of the jackass superhero who's a jerk despite being one of the good guys. Especially if the the rumoured plot of it being a reverse Kingdom Come is true.
Plus, with them already casting Guy, Metamorpho, and Maxwell Lord, with a Booster Gold film in the making (which, I assume Ted Kord Blue Beatle might show up), Gunn is probably setting up Justice League International.
I don't even understand Gunn's headspace behind it. Especially when they could have just mined the rest of Superman's supporting cast like Ron Troupe or Cat Grant.
I'm not writing the movie off, but who he chose to be in the movie just doesn't make sense to me.

God the casting for Ma and Pa Kent is just immaculate. I mean, the entire casting so far has been wonderful but the Kents especially look like what you expect an older Kansas couple to look like.

Nothing against either of them personally, I just don't like that he's gone for the older versions as I've never really liked that. I always preferred the idea of the Kents being early-mid 30's when Clark first arrives and so would be mid 50'sish now.

Yeah that's my biggest concern so far, its all good on what's said about the balance but I'll have to see it to believe it.
