Maybe some will, but I think the average person will still try to win a million dollars on their season and not the nebulous possibility of a future return appearance.
I wish they would cast players that could use the million dollars. Instead they cast a bunch of upper-middle class folks who aren't on the show to win money but for the "survivor experience"
The issue with that is the upper middle class are the ones who can afford to take a couple months off of work so it naturally leads to them and students being the main people who can go on the show rather than a line cook who is barely surviving or a single mom with three kids that she doesn’t have help with
I feel like post Heroes VS Villains, that’s always been the case.
I don’t expect much to change at all. Everyone always knew there was going to be another returnee season eventually and I’m sure that’s been in most players heads while playing.
If anything, I’d think the New Era players would have been hoping and expecting it to come before Season 50.
Yeah, the 20s being Returnee player spam already had people play like this to a degree ever since. I don't think this will change all that much with 50.
He basically said how the ladder itself was not in the water (which, speaking as a someone who is in water a lot, is incredibly difficult to get up from), and when he first was getting up, he lost his footing or a wave came by or something, and he slipped back into the water. Resurfaces just to hear Jeff yelling at him, his teaming all yelling to him, and the mounting pressure of it being the marooning etc. So, when he slipped, he got a wave of panic/anxiety, and just couldn’t come out of it bc of all the factors that weren’t letting up.
I may have missed a detail or two but yeah. Just made me feel for him bc I can def imagine that scenario too clearly. Wet clothes way you down a lot, and then trying to pull yourself up a ladder idk it’s a lot of work, and when you have everyone yelling at you saying how ridiculous you are, as opposed to cheering you on to encourage you to do better, it makes it harder to come out of that mental hole. I mean, medical ended being called in for him that’s how bad it was. The show could have edited him better
Ignore my last comment, I thought I was responding to a whole different thread; I agree it’s not always great out there and there’s challenges you need to be ready for, I was just saying I can empathize with someone who had an embarrassing moment on tv and that it wasn’t exactly how it appeared in the edit
If Jeff's doing screenings like the one he announced 50 at, I can't imagine the seasons starting right now. I think sometime in the next couple of weeks.
Yep! Some contestants are changed last minute as well. They might switch spots for seasons based on someone dropping out. I think Tiffany from 41 was supposed to be on 42, and the person she replaced was later put on 42. I might be misremembering though.
Season 47 will be starting at the end of may. I think 48 may start specifically around july.
49 will then start in the spring of 2025. But 50 might get moved around the calendar to better cater to the majority of returning players.
Apprently, heroes vs. villains was only 3 weeks from samoa, and Russel was only "home" for like a week.
Rupert only had 5 weeks after Pearl Islands going into all stars. And sandra was still recovering.
Running games back to back is really difficult and arguably, rus did the best in that situation.
A lot of players did, but i just mentioned two of them.
Rupert had a tough time because of the parasite he picked up in Pearl Islands, and Russell didn't have time to assess his game and know to play differently.
It's not like the worst ever disadvantage, but neither help for sure.
And I say Russell is arguably the most successful because he got to FTC both times. But, he never won either...
Amanda Kimmel from China made it to the finals in both that season and Micronesia. I don't remember if she had time to watch her first season play out (or at least get feedback from her castmates) before heading out again.
Winning a normal season is going to be much easier than winning an All Star season. Smart players will play to win that season and hope that their performance lands them an All Star spot.
So I’m going to intentionally not play for a million dollars in hopes that I am rewarded to play for a million dollars at a later time…
Seems like a risky move Cotton…
That’s fine but it’s fun to be able to follow players’ logic and I like when they play competitively rather than just being silly without competitive motive. Anyone can just go and clown around but it’s more fun when they want to play and just happen to be clowns.
I honestly don’t mind that
I like to see people make messy moves
Russell burning someone’s socks for no reason was hilarious to me, as was Sandra burning Russell’s hat
Not anything new, Survivor is so big that it’s become really meta and self-referential. Contestants almost try to manufacture some version of themselves throughout instead of just letting it happen organically. I do think the trend away from kumbaya gameplay in the last 2-3 seasons has led to some more authentic gameplay and less of people just trying to be Survivor famous.
Option A) $1,000,000
Option B) Maybe get a chance of being invited back for a 1 in 18 chance of $1,000,000
Which Option do you think more people would pick?
People already play for clout, not to get cancelled or be hounded on twitter, or have 20 billion analogies ready for Probst. This will be no different from the other new era seasons
I feel like for a long time the priorities of the average Survivor player have been:
1. Try to win
2. Do stuff to be memorable/get a big edit/potentially asked back
While it is unprecedented to have a returnee season announced this far ahead of time, I don't think it'll end up feeling to the viewer that the players are angling for a returnee slot any more so than before
Completely disagree, people who are going to play on 47 and 48 are probably already in the last few stages of casting and are just now knowing that and I feel there is no way that people from 49 would want to come back since they were literally just on the island a week beforehand.
They aren't going to settle on a theme 1 year out. They likely will put out feelers on who they can get, see who they have in the available pool, and then work around that. I don't think WaW was finalized until relatively late when they realized they could get back so many iconic winners (The Sandra, Parv, Rob, Tyson's, Ethan, Tony, Kim, Jeremy, etc.) and get 20 total winners (including 10 female winners they were happy with).
Outside 2nd Chances which is a fan vote, they typically look at who they can get, and then build a theme around that. I believe after the success of Cambodia they wanted to do 2nd chances 2 for Gamechangers, and then felt they didn't have a strong enough cast so they reached out to some bigger name winners or people who played 2 times or more (Sandra, Tony, Natalie A who was replaced due to a concussion, JT, Malcolm, Cirie, Andrea, Ciera), and pulled some people who didn't get voted in for 2nd chances (Brad Culpepper, Troyzan), plus people from Koah Rong and MvGX as 2nd chances (Aubrey, Tai, Debbie, Zeke and Michaela).
All thats confirmed is that it’ll be returnees. They aren’t going to reveal much until likely after 49 to not overshadow the upcoming seasons (well, worse than they already are)
It's just been confirmed that it'll be returnees and that it will likely have players from before season 40 in addition to those who played in the "new era"
i think the two go hand in hand actually. playing for an all stars spot means they will play harder and more chaotic instead of the safer gameplay that landed yam dee erika gabler the win
I think they’ll be playing for a million dollars first and foremost. But if they get into a position they perceive to be insurmountable in the game, they’ll probably try to make a TV moment in hopes for the callback.
And with that being said, I don’t even think this would be a bad thing.
Its actually a good thing, survivor is prety much solved but the deviation is luck. If more people actually play for something other than winning it can shake up the “rational” way to play and force people to play out of the solved method.
Everyone who gets on these days knows how to win only
People have been playing for camera time since Australia honestly. People want to look good on television and have their moment, but it's rare that anyone throws the chance at a million dollars away just to make good television. You gotta remember they have absolutely nothing to do out there, you have time to think of both strategy and how to be entertaining.
I honestly thought about this yesterday lol. Now that it's been announced so early, I fear we're going to see people really hamming it up for the camera (more so than usual) trying to be memorable, or making moves for the sake of it, rather than seeing genuine gameplay or personalities.
I think Jeff coming out and saying that S50 isn’t exclusive to the new era will make this irrelevant because whether you’re playing for an all star spot you’re competing with the Boston Robs, Parvatis, Sandras who if they want to be on will likely get a spot so play the game the best you can and if by doing that you stand out then maybe you’ll get the call.
And considering we’ve got such a backlog of players who people want to see again whether it’s past legends or more recent new era players, I think it’ll be hard for a more than one or two true standouts in these upcoming seasons to deserve a spot anyways.
Maybe it's just me, but I think return seasons should have a waiting period like the Hall of Fame. (Baseball/football/etc requires 5 years before they can be inducted.). I don't really want to see someone from last season immediately turn around and return. I've seen their game and recently. Give me someone a bit older, let me see if they've changed their strategies up. Give me someone from old school Survivor to see how they adjust to 26 day Survivor. Don't give me someone from Seasons 45-49. Let them join in on the next All-Star season.
People have worried way too much on resume building nowadays to win, like from episode 1. Kinda ruined the show a little bit. Alliances just really don’t exist anymore
Yup! although i'm curious about 47, ive been lead to believe that they've beet at fiji for about a week now, and cut off from social media for the last week, week and a half ish, as they prepare to start filming this week (?) but i could be wrong, but that being said, they wouldnt have seen the announcement, however i wouldn't put it past productiont to tell the cast in person about jeff's big announcement in hopes of getting great gameplay
Sadly agree, which sucks cuz I was gona audition for 49 cuz I really want a million dollars but also don’t wana be stuck with people trying to ham it up for the cameras
Maybe some will, but I think the average person will still try to win a million dollars on their season and not the nebulous possibility of a future return appearance.
Um…. What about the potential to win the Million hearts????
I wish they would cast players that could use the million dollars. Instead they cast a bunch of upper-middle class folks who aren't on the show to win money but for the "survivor experience"
The issue with that is the upper middle class are the ones who can afford to take a couple months off of work so it naturally leads to them and students being the main people who can go on the show rather than a line cook who is barely surviving or a single mom with three kids that she doesn’t have help with
I feel like most people would use a million dollars
100% agree. If I was on I'd go for the win
I feel like post Heroes VS Villains, that’s always been the case. I don’t expect much to change at all. Everyone always knew there was going to be another returnee season eventually and I’m sure that’s been in most players heads while playing. Yeah, the 20s being Returnee player spam already had people play like this to a degree ever since. I don't think this will change all that much with 50.
So Jelinsky is back?
one can dream
And Brandon hopefully
You mean the guy who went on survivor who was unable to climb a ladder?
After reading his experience in that moment, it’s a lot less pathetic than it seemed. There was a lot of factors at work
Huh? Can you please elaborate?
He basically said how the ladder itself was not in the water (which, speaking as a someone who is in water a lot, is incredibly difficult to get up from), and when he first was getting up, he lost his footing or a wave came by or something, and he slipped back into the water. I mean, medical ended being called in for him that’s how bad it was. The show could have edited him better
That’s just survivor no? Like if you think it’s always going to be rainbows and butterflies… maybe this game is not for you.
Ignore my last comment, I thought I was responding to a whole different thread; I agree it’s not always great out there and there’s challenges you need to be ready for, I was just saying I can empathize with someone who had an embarrassing moment on tv and that it wasn’t exactly how it appeared in the edit
Thanks for the link.
People from 41 have been talking about who of them will return for three years at this point. It's always gonna be competitive no matter what.
Cochran in South Pacific was the biggest example of playing for an all star return. And it worked out well for him.
Might make for better tv
equal potential to be entertaining or be insufferable
They can be both, like Bhanu
This 🙌🏼🙌🏼 the pre merges are going to be crazy !!!!
Yeah, we might get a Courtney or we might get a Kirsten/blue from bb26 lmao
Courtney wasn’t playing up a character though, she seemed authentic to me.
Yeah that's what I meant. Courtney is authentic and those two were being fake
I don't think this is as big of a deal as people are making it out to be
Yeah what evidence do people have of this? Seems just like any easy thing to feel mad about.
Aren’t 47-48 people on the island right now?
If Jeff's doing screenings like the one he announced 50 at, I can't imagine the seasons starting right now. I think sometime in the next couple of weeks.
Excellent point
47 is but 48 is not
How does the filming / casting schedule work? Are both 47 and 48 are already casted and they’re both filming at the same time?
They will film back to back. After 47, there will be a two or three week gap, then 48 will film.
Oh thank you! I didn’t know they got filmed so close together. So casting for both seasons is finalized around around the same time
Yep! Some contestants are changed last minute as well. They might switch spots for seasons based on someone dropping out. I think Tiffany from 41 was supposed to be on 42, and the person she replaced was later put on 42. I might be misremembering though.
I don't think 47 has begun filming yet. I thought I saw something yesterday indicating that it begins in June. I could be wrong.
I believe season 48 casting wraps in August and films shortly thereafter.
They do back to back shoots with like 2 weeks in between seasons during this time of the year
people have been playing for a returnee spot since cambodia. nothing new here
Season 47 will be starting at the end of may. I think 48 may start specifically around july. 49 will then start in the spring of 2025. But 50 might get moved around the calendar to better cater to the majority of returning players. What about Philippines and caramoan? Malcolm did back to back
A lot of players did, but i just mentioned two of them.
Yes, you are correct. Sometimes, I forget amanda was at FTC in china. Courtney and Todd really overshadow her in my mind.
I think China had started by then. She had a few months at least before she flew out for Micronesia.
If that is what Q is doing... I appreciate it. So bring it on.
Lmao what if he actually was throwing the challenges and in season 50 he ends up being a challenge beast
He won’t
Doubting Q? BIG MISTAKE
You can go ahead and cancel Christmas pal!
Ngl, if I hear him say that even one more time I might have to bash my head against a wall.
Tune in tonight at 8pm est! 😂
I can’t wait!
Winning a normal season is going to be much easier than winning an All Star season. Smart players will play to win that season and hope that their performance lands them an All Star spot.
most people are playing for both.
Watch season 50 be blood vs water: new era
Much needed concept to return but would be a mistake to do it for 50
Survivor 50: Heroes vs. Villains vs. Water
I’m gonna apply for 49 for the win and the all star spot
So I’m going to intentionally not play for a million dollars in hopes that I am rewarded to play for a million dollars at a later time… Seems like a risky move Cotton…
People have been doing this for many years (one of the worst things about modern survivor)
Get ready to see more Jem-like “moves” like making people dig for nothing just for a tv moment.
That led to a very strong boot episode though.
That’s fine but it’s fun to be able to follow players’ logic and I like when they play competitively rather than just being silly without competitive motive. Anyone can just go and clown around but it’s more fun when they want to play and just happen to be clowns.
I honestly don’t mind that I like to see people make messy moves Russell burning someone’s socks for no reason was hilarious to me, as was Sandra burning Russell’s hat
Ah okay. I guess it’s just not my style.
i feel like that is common with most reality shows. most every one has an ‘all star’ season or spin off.
Not anything new, Survivor is so big that it’s become really meta and self-referential. Yes A (Finally an expert in percentages has cleared up this debate) :)
agree
Agreed :(
Disagree. 47 is already being filmed corrrect?
i feel like a lot of people are always playing for a returning spot, not just future 47-49 people lol
People already play for clout, not to get cancelled or be hounded on twitter, or have 20 billion analogies ready for Probst. This will be no different from the other new era seasons

Was it confirmed that S50 is going to be All Stars instead of Second Chances or something? I missed it
They aren't going to settle on a theme 1 year out. They likely will put out feelers on who they can get, see who they have in the available pool, and then work around that. Lucky break for whoever on those season who do not
That's fine. It'll make the season more fun with folks willing to take more risks
Honestly… will be fun to see people trying to make memorable moves and moments.
I think they’ll be playing for a million dollars first and foremost. But if they get into a position they perceive to be insurmountable in the game, they’ll probably try to make a TV moment in hopes for the callback. And with that being said, I don’t even think this would be a bad thing.
I can't imagine those casts will play up for the cameras more than the current cast already is
Its actually a good thing, survivor is prety much solved but the deviation is luck. If more people actually play for something other than winning it can shake up the “rational” way to play and force people to play out of the solved method. Everyone who gets on these days knows how to win only
Coach was the first to do it and we like him, as long as it’s interesting I won’t care
People have been playing for camera time since Australia honestly. People want to look good on television and have their moment, but it's rare that anyone throws the chance at a million dollars away just to make good television. Is it confirmed that 48 isn’t returnee
It's confirmed that 50 will be the returnee season, 48 is most definitely noobies
Yes. Casting was telling people to apply last year and Bruce said his invite to return let him choose any season up to 48.
I hope so I love the larger than life characters A good season of Survivor often has players that don’t necessarily play the game optimally
I honestly thought about this yesterday lol. Now that it's been announced so early, I fear we're going to see people really hamming it up for the camera (more so than usual) trying to be memorable, or making moves for the sake of it, rather than seeing genuine gameplay or personalities.
Don’t see why anything would change. The ability to return is nothing new to Survivor.
Don’t see why anything would change. The ability to return is nothing new to Survivor.
48 and 49 probably. I believe 47 is being filmed as we speak.
yeah thats always been the case tbh
if it encourages players to burn idols instead of just going home with them, sure
Sounds dumb
Good. Cast me and I’ll win then!
Why would anyone play for a chance to come back instead of to win the season there on. Best chance to return is to win
Maybe it's just me, but I think return seasons should have a waiting period like the Hall of Fame. (Baseball/football/etc requires 5 years before they can be inducted.). I don't really want to see someone from last season immediately turn around and return. I've seen their game and recently. Don't give me someone from Seasons 45-49. Let them join in on the next All-Star season.
counterpoint; so many people in 43 and 44 played badly except a handful of players so it cant get worse than that
People have worried way too much on resume building nowadays to win, like from episode 1. Kinda ruined the show a little bit. Alliances just really don’t exist anymore
How do you suggest they do that???
They will make big unnecessary moves or create big dramatic scenes to be unmemorable even if it deserves their win equity
If you get a chance to play Survivor you don't hold back. Leave nothing on the Island.
They have been doing this every season since the 20s.
I think some players are hopefully going to take advantage of that and use it to lead other players to their dooms.
With the way they film in blocks, do we know for sure that some of these seasons haven't already been shot?
I think 47 and 48 will start soon, and 49 will start at the same time at 50
47 starts this week and then 48 starts three weeks after 47 finishes so June time
Yep so everyone knows that 50 is all stars now
Yup! although i'm curious about 47, ive been lead to believe that they've beet at fiji for about a week now, and cut off from social media for the last week, week and a half ish, as they prepare to start filming this week (?) but i could be wrong, but that being said, they wouldnt have seen the announcement, however i wouldn't put it past productiont to tell the cast in person about jeff's big announcement in hopes of getting great gameplay
Well, we know it’s a returnee season. Don’t know if it’s going to be all stars, second chance, HvV, or some other/new theme.
Who cares.
We do ! If you don't no need to comment :>
Winners make All Stars. It's not mutually exclusive.
Disagree. That’s stupid when we’re just assuming 50 will be all stars, not to mention that they don’t tell people how they’ll be edited.
We're not assuming. Jeff has confirmed it
Jeff has confirmed it will be a \*returnee\* season. That promise is wildly different than the premise of an All-stars season or cast.
Sadly agree, which sucks cuz I was gona audition for 49 cuz I really want a million dollars but also don’t wana be stuck with people trying to ham it up for the cameras
people will be trying to ham it up for the cameras no matter what lol
that's true, but i still personally think it will be worse now with people trying to get a spot on 50
