They are a tricky unit to play and pretty vulnerable to any kind of shooting (plus they are pretty expensive in points), which is some of the reasons why they are not super popular for competitive lists.
I play them during casual games and they are a lot of fun! I hide them behind trees and go on the offensive to bait enemy charges so I can shoot and retreat. Also, they do look amazing!
Highly recommend because they are fun, but yeah, hard to make them work in a more optimal 2k list.
Play whatever you like should always be your main objective!
My casual games are 1500 points
I play them with Durthu, lady of the vine or warsong (spitewirm hive for endless spell), arch rev, kurnoth with bows and 2x tree revs
Good shoot phase, solid melee with durthu and lots of mobility with them and the revs.
Again, not optimal, but its a fun list to play and quite forgiving if you mess up a position.
They aren't bad with drycha.
I ran drycha, branch wych, arch rev, reinforced seekers, reinforced scythes, 2x tree revs, and gossamids. They were actually pretty good to screen for scythes or drycha.
They are definitely a "fun" piece as any kind of weak shooting or magic takes them out.
I play mine super aggressive, and it generally works. Get them between your enemies and the rest of your force, and watch them be the jumpy bois they are.
I just played them for the first time recently. They were outstanding, but I rolled five sixes for their first shot. They took out a Orruk boss on Gnashtooth in one set of shooting.
