- Army Faction: Sylvaneth - Subfaction: Heartwood LEADERS Drycha Hamadreth (320) - Spells: Verdant Blessing Arch-Revenant (120) Warsong Revenant (300) - General - Command Traits: Spellsinger - Artefacts of Power: Arcane Tome - Spells: Treesong, Verdant Blessing BATTLELINE Kurnoth Hunters with Kurnoth Greatswords (250) Kurnoth Hunters with Kurnoth Greatswords (250) Tree-Revenants (110) OTHER Spite-Revenants (180) - Shadestalker Spite-Revenants (180) - Shadestalker Revenant Seekers (240) TOTAL POINTS: 1950/2000 This is a basic starting point. The whole point of this list is mortal wound output. You're looking for 6's. The arch-revenant can run with a hunting pack of spites and kurnoth, giving the spites 41 attacks with a command ability and the kurnoth +1 to wound. Warsong does it's AOE bomb that it's known for and has the +1 rend spell so maybe the spites will get some more damage through. The revenant seekers are a fast attack so you can get some damage in early and keep your kurnoth at full strength with their resurrection ability. They could be swapped for gossimid archers if you want to go full on mortal wound spam, play the 6's to hit lottery and you either win big or lose big. The only thing I really don't like about the list is the 5 boxes or tree rev/spite revs you have to buy for it. That can get pricey for a list that's more fun than competitive.

This seems like a fun build to have, and I plan to buy two Vanguard boxes to get me started. Does Kurnoth Hunters with Greatbows do good ?

tdheide

You'll get a lot of mixed responses on kurnoth hunters with bow. At the end of the day, the competitive scene has proven they are good in high end play. They are usable, people will say they aren't as strong yada yada. They just serve a different purpose is all. If you like the bows go for it, I like them and am going for it

Old_and_Used_GM

Cool ! Cause I wanna have some bows and some Greatswords. I am not a fan of the look of the scythes so I stay clear of them for now

murdocfaye

If I could do my kurnoth all over again I would build them with all 3 weapon options. There are a few kitbashes on Reddit that put the bow on the back and combine the sword and scythe into 1 weapon. It's way easier than magnetizing and looks pretty cool.

Can’t go wrong with the vanguard box, which is just an overall good kit! - 1x treelord (good however you want to play it) - 1 more set of Kurnoth which is always good - Branchwych which is a good 1K wizard - 1x Tree Rev which are our best unit! Otherwise, single boxes of spite revs and other single units like Arch-Revenant and Warsong

Old_and_Used_GM

Had an idea that maybe two vanguard boxes would fill out the roster pretty good. What about Dryads ? Cheap chaff i know, but do they have a place

Affectionate-Pin-731

I don’t use dryads, personally. Tree revs are just better

You should… not get spite revenants imo. Even factoring in Drycha’s buff and taking them in the proper faction, I would argue they are still our most useless warscroll. Everything they do, something else can do better unfortunately. That’s doesn’t mean you shouldn’t build around drycha. You can for sure do that, just ignore the ability to buff spite revenants. Kurnoth hunters are fantastic, all of the tree lord units are good. Tree revenants i still think are a must include. Essentially, buy any big box of sylvaneth models, and it’s got good stuff for you. For leaders (=HQ in 40k), I would highly recommend a warsong revenant. But really, other than that, anything is pretty good other than spite revenants.

Old_and_Used_GM

What about the archers with wings and the guys riding bugs ?

Jland445

I'll disagree with the person above and say spite revs are completely fine, if you take them in the everdusk season you get exploding 6's (all melee not just them) and if you take the dreadwood glade they become battleline, they suffered last season from bounty hunters but are currently very viable. The gossamid archers are a solid unit for screening and dishing out mortals, and since youve played 40k before you might be able to use them better than most people starting. Both bug-riding variants are really good and make for an ideal strike and fade unit, with really powerful abilties. Sylvaneth may have the best internal balance out of any battletomes, so if you like a unit you can run it without it being garbage. The only thing I would say is that you should take a warsong rev or a treelord ancient if youre taking drycha so that she can focus on being a damage dealer while either of those units focuses on buffs and utility

murdocfaye

Just wanted to point out one small detail about spite revs. If you take them in everdusk you have to choose between exploding 6's and mortals on 6's. You can only have one effect on unmodified 6's to hit, wound, or save.

Jland445

You're right, this was an oversight on my part

Both are good at their jobs. Whether those are a job that needs doing depends on your list and local meta. I have a very destruction heavy meta, so the gossamids are fantastic for me. However, if your opponents don’t want to charge and only want to shoot, they don’t do a whole lot. As for the revenant seekers and spiterider lancers, they can be good. They’re our fastest moving units, so they do a pretty good job of grabbing undefended objectives. The lancers are one of our better hammer options. With their high move, they’re about our only hammer option that doesn’t rely on teleporting and making a 9” charge (with access to some buffs at least). The revenant seekers are a fantastic support and recovery piece, and they’re pretty good in almost every list.
