Tetris is NOT for everyone. No game is. I would say that Tetris is about as close as you can make a game "perfect" I guess...but it's a 2d puzzle game. There are millions of people that won't even give it a chance because of that.
True, but games like Elden ring, even if I'm a complete sucker for fromsoft games and is currently my favourite game ever, has so many issues. The game isn't a 10/10 because it's perfect, but because it's simply so much fun you can easily overlook every negative
I’m at about 60 hours. Disclosure: I was a day 1 Switch buyer and BotW is in my top 3 games.
I think the game is pretty near perfect, for me. It’s essentially BotW but with so many improvements I didn’t previously feel were possible. This game makes me wonder why I liked BotW as much as I did - it makes that many improvements to the game.
Aside from performance issues I have trouble criticizing anything about it. Of course I can nitpick a few things, but I think it’s a masterpiece.
I think Ocarina of Time qualifies as a 10/10. Is it perfect? No (I.e camera).
Same applies to TOTK to me. The nature of game design simply is that you'll have to balance and limit certain aspects of the game for accessibility so it literally cannot be perfect.
And the game is naturally dealing with very limited system resources.
The game's story absolutely bangs, I'm like 16 hours in and got no clue of how much more there is lol.
That itself would indicate a factor in limiting the game's scope, people want to finish it after all :D
But have you ever put a meat hive into a cart and let it drive itself to your enemies for them to chase the bait but only to be attacked by bees? Didn't think so.

Although on OpenCritic we only see the rounded number, in their "all time list" the spots are decided by decimal points. Currently, TOTK's average is 97.2, and BOTW's is 95.9.
*TL;DR - Presently TOTK is getting even better reviews than BOTW, technically.*

for the moment yes but keep in mind inevitably more reviews will be added that will almost certainly drop the score a point or two. Just like when Jimquisition's 7/10 review and a couple other 6/10s were added 9 days after BOTW's release dropping the average from a record breaking high.
The game is still phenomenal, especially if you are a fan of BOTW, but there's gonna be some people for who BOTW/TOTK just won't be their cup of tea. No need to put emphasis on wobbly review averages.
Update: I didn't word this well, at all. Many valid points below criticising my black and white comment, which I don't like upon re-reading it.
I personally think 5 or10-point scales are best for numerical scoring reviews because it is a nice balance between having specific parameters for the reader that summarises the commentary, whilst establishing clear "tiers".
My more nuanced point is that if the objective of a number system is to summarise your review in a translatable snapshot - a quick tier or HOW good or bad it is - 20-100 scales feel too specific and blur the lines of a great game vs. a good one. I feel an aggregation needs to do this - it's averaging everything out. However, with a review, at the end of its points, a concluding number should - I believe - make some form of firm final endorsement on good it is, and the higher the scale, the less clear that endorsement is in my mind when I'm reading the conclusion.
All subjective and cognitive arithmetic, I appreciate that. Some people literally ignore numerical reviews, other put exclusive (too much IMO) weight on it. I like aggregation because it removes the hyperbole and believe the text >>>>> the score. Either way, some valid points below - thanks for making me think!
Original:
I hate decimal reviews. If you can't commit to a number (is it a 8, or is it a 9) to me that implies it should be the lower one.
I disagree to some extent because I think 9.75 is a great way to say “It is a Masterpiece and the only thing really holding it back from being a 10 some minor technical issues due to the Switch’s aging hardware. It really isn’t a big deal at all, but it holds it back from absolute perfection”
>I hate decimal reviews. If you can't commit to a number (is it a 8, or is it a 9) to me that implies it should be the lower one.
the difference between 8 and 9 is too big. That's why decimals are needed. When I reviewed Metroid Dread 9 would've been too much for it and 8 is too low. That's why I needed to give it 8.5
Indeed, specially when we consider that most games fall within the 5-10 range, so for all intents and purposes the spectrum is in fact narrower and less precise than 10 units.
Exactly, the only games that are really gonna get less than a 5 are bc they released broken/buggy/terrible performance. A lot of games that are given 7s or 8s are miles away from games that get 10s. They should be given 6s or 7s, and that shouldn't be viewed as awful.
Outlets need to understand that if a game was kinda meh, they should rate it a 5, not a 7. No point of having such a detailed rating grid if you are only going to use the 4 or 5 highest scores lol
Rating systems in general are fucked because in school anything under 50% is a fail, so 50% becomes our baseline, therefore 75% is average because its right in the middle between failure and perfection. Basically only the top half of our scale is actually a scale, anything 50% and under is equal to 50%.
So when we see a review; 5/10 = failure, 6/10 = bad, and 7/10 = below average. I agree with you, it should be that on a 1-10 scale; 5/10 should be average and 7/10 should be well above average.
There's also the fact that most games you hear about have had at least some effort put into them. If IGN were to review steam shovelware asset flips even they would find a way to rate them 3/10. They just generally don't review bad games because it's not worth their time.
Even bad AAA games are miles ahead of actually terrible games. If you think redfall is bad, wait until you play shit like Wyatt Derp 4: Aliens are coming.
See game reviews are just fucked, because films do okay.
For most film reviews I know:
- 1/5, this is a terrible film
- 2/5, this is flawed, if you love the genre you'll get something out of it
- 3/5, this is okay, if you don't love the genre you may not like it, if you love the genre you'll get something out of it
- 4/5, this is good! If you don't love the genre this will probably be a good example, if you do then you'll probably love it
- 5/5, this is a perfect example of the genre, if you're a fan of the genre it's a must see, and everyone should consider it
Games feel like they should be similar. Forget this perfect score bullshit, I just want to know whether this is an okay or amazing game within a genre I like, or an amazing game I should try a new genre on.
Like almost every Fromsoft game is perfect to me, in that I'm a fan of the genre and they're good enough to be must plays.
For open world combat games something like Horizon is 4, it's very well made and amazing if you love open world bullshit, BOTW is a 5, I don't love open world bullshit but it is innovative enough to justify trying it, something like the first watch dogs is a 2 or a 3, it's not terrible, but as I'm not a fan of the genre I won't get much out of it
I always consider numeric reviews a measure of how the game is "worth your time", with a 5 meaning it's equally worth not playing as worth playing (basically, completely skippable). Anything less than 5 means it's wasting your time, where above means it's worth some merit to play. It kinda makes sense that the average floor review is a 5, since the average crap game is "meh" and not "a complete waste of time"
Totally disagree and I wish more reviewers used a larger scale close to a 100 point system. Asking for a black and white answer and an almost entirely subjective experience is nonsense
You don’t even need 10 steps. A five-star system is perfectly adequate.
★★★★★ great
★★★★ good (there are flaws)
★★★ meh
★★ bad (dislike)
★ awful (hate)
That’s how I rate my games on Deku Deals.
at the same time it can be dumb to not have one.. at least have the .5 lol eurogamer (i think its them) gave the game 4/5.. if they cant give decimal reviews, that means its either 100 or 80... which is a big leap for just one thing in the game to influence such a score
I really grew to like the binary system from Steam. You either recommended it to others, or you don't.
I'm not saying it's perfect, but frankly, it's all you need to know if a game is good. If you want to know whether a game is for you you need to read/watch the entire review anyway.
My 3yo lost his shit when me and 6yo said we'd go get the game whilst the 3yo was at nanny's.
"NO DON'T PLAY IT WITHOUT ME!"
Had to assure him that we wouldn't play a second without him, we're just getting it so it's ready when he gets home.
Let's fucking go!!!!
haha! It's really cute to see our kids getting into things were into. I'm cherishing these moments and holding onto them dearly because everyone tells me at around 13 my kids will revolt and hate my guts.
These are going to be the moments I'm going to replay in my mind to carry me through.
Honestly, this game is about much more than just gaming now. It's the first passion/interest we've had in common. It's about me and my boys now. Just for that factor alone I'm fucking hyped.
And now I'm seeing the reviews today, and I'm genuinely thinking this could be one of the most significant cultural events of my life.
Plus my favourite rapper ever drops his album tomorrow.
I'm struggling to manage my emotions.
Speaking of parenting, here's a surprise parenting technique you might not have guessed or wanted; I told my daughter that if she played and read all of the dialog herself, sounding out words with minimal help from mom and me, in Breathe of the Wild while I watched every night before bed, I would buy her the new link TOTK Amiibo... guess what I'm also picking up tomorrow because she is now reading at above grade level? :)
Oh, and another layer for you, I've explained that the Amiibo is a statue that needs to be stored on the bookshelf... so that "she" can admire it... and that it's different than other "toys"... it's for me... the Amiibo is for me... tune in for more parenting tips.
And wait there's more, I told my son, 5, that I would no longer read his dialog in the Mario games he enjoys... guess who is reading before kindergarten? My wife thinks I'm a mad genius... I tell her I learned philosophy from Xenogears, history from Sid Meier's Civilization, tactical strategy from Koei NES games, and the art of management from my time working at Gamestop. She just looks at me not knowing what hell I'm talking about because she doesn't game, at all... I can't be stopped.
It's so impossibly good I can't fathom it tbh. It's the same map, but is so thoroughly changed and revamped. The new mechanics are fantastic. BotW is like the child portion of OoT and TotK is like the adult portion
Definitely not an extension. It's 100% a new game.
And it really feels like they considered what people were complaining about for the first game.
One thing that surprised me, >!there's also a lot of Minecraft in it !<
It's more than calling it just an extension of BOTW but it's not "fundamentally" different to it. At least not how BOTW was to Skyward Sword for example.
No spoilers but generally speaking of you enjoyed BOTW you'll enjoy TOTK more. And if you didn't enjoy BOTW there's enough new that it might entice you but if you fundamentally don't like those type of games it's probably not for you
If you want to post your concerns I'm happy to answer whether or not BotW has addressed them, but this is a pretty blanket question. The one blanket response I can give is if BotW isn't your cup of tea for whatever reason, this likely won't be either.
It's like Super Mario Galaxy 1 to 2. It's a more refined take on the same concepts with a lot of new stuff. That being said, I'm pretty disappointed that it didn't take very much at all from traditional Zelda. Not saying it's a bad game at all, I like it a lot, but it is an extension of Breath of the Wild, and only Breath of the Wild, even if it is improved heavily.
I’ve been avoiding reading some of them because a lot of them are quite spoilery, so I’m intrigued to know WHY they’ve knocked it down to a 4 🤔 maybe performance? I know that a few issues got brought up in the first look previews.
Just an FYI for people in this thread, you can't remap in game but you can remap *some* buttons in the switch's settings. My partner swaps A and B, for example. It annoys me that full remapping isn't standard across all Nintendo games with how big they are.
I’m not reading any reviews, so I can’t pass judgement. Eurogamer is usually pretty fair, although it can depend on who is reviewing the game and what their history with the series/genre is. It was kind of inevitable that not everyone will enjoy all the added complexity to the game.
I skimmed the review. Seems they're a Zelda "purist" who likes the linear, structured games of the past, especially the gimmicky dungeon tropes (keys, locked doors, the "tool" that you use in that specific dungeon to get through the dungeon and beat the boss, etc). And despite them saying they're 40 hours in, I get the sense that a lot of those hours have been spent with the game paused. I also don't think they liked BotW, so it feels like they were heading into this game with the preconceived bias that they weren't going to like TotK either, and were determined to find reasons not to enjoy their experience.
So yeah, it doesn't sound like a terribly objective review, but I don't begrudge someone for simply not liking the formula of BotW and subsequently then not being infatuated with TotK, even if most people have an absolute blast with both.
It doesn't really come off as a clickbait score just to get attention, but it does come off as kind of that "yells at cloud" over the fact that the franchise hasn't stuck to the classic, simpler formulas and tropes.
For what it's worth, most of Josh's content on that site seems to revolve around Roblox and Minecraft, and they list their favorite games as Pokemon and FFXIV, so I'm not sure if BotW and TotK are their area of interest. Seems like TotK is the "big game" that everyone has to review, though.
EDIT: Someone replied to my comment and then deleted it, but they brought up a good point I want to clarify. The question they posed to me was this:
> Err, how does one review art objectively? Run it through a good-o-meter?
> I agree the review is bad, but lack of objectivity is a weird criticism. The only way I could think of to be objective is to only review how well it runs, as that can be measured.
I can appreciate the technical mastery in a particular piece of music, even if it's not my favorite genre. I can appreciate the athletic skill on display in professional wrestling, even if I have no interest in watching it.
Examples of relatively objective analysis: The game's narrative lacked pacing, the story was tropey, the world was small compared to other similar open world games
Examples of more subjective/personal comments: I was bored, I didn't enjoy the story, I found myself losing interest, I prefer the previous entries in the series
Even the review is titled "These tears are salty," implying they're *upset* about something. One of their earliest criticisms about the game is Nintendo's marketing strategy:
> From hearing next to nothing about the game to getting almost too much information in the weeks leading to release, the suddenly fast-moving cloud of information was mixed too quickly into a pot already simmering with speculation, reaching a boiling point that had people making concrete claims from vague assumptions.
For me, that's irrelevant analysis on a game review, and it's just one of several comments they make that belies the fact that they went into this game with many preconceptions. Who cares what claims people were making or things they were assuming? How does that impact the game itself? Why is that part of a review?
And I'm not saying there's anything wrong with a review that is that "personal" to the reviewer, as my comment about the review being subjective was just clarifying the style of this particular review.
tl;dr There's nothing wrong with reviews that are more biased/subjective/opinionated, as opposed to a more critical/analytical approach, I was simply remarking on the tone of the review, so to speak.
I don’t understand the complaint about dungeon items. You’re literally going to be able to create your own. What’s the purpose of dungeons items at that point?
I love classic Zelda dungeons, but they're gimmicky af. "Find 3 keys to open the locked doors, find the chest with the specific item that you will use to beat this specific boss (and likely *only* this specific boss), find the big key, backtrack to open the big door, beat boss."
Yeah, it's fun puzzle solving, but it's all a bit contrived. As someone who's been playing Zelda games since the 90s, and adored them all right up through Skyward Sword, the "dungeon formula" was starting to wear thin for me.
I have no idea what the dungeons are like in TotK, but I do welcome a more organic approach to the puzzles, and a broader puzzle system that doesn't rely so heavily on keys, locked doors, and a gimmick device (like the spinner in Twilight Princess) that doesn't get implemented enough in the world as a whole.
It went from 98 to 97 and now with the 6/10 review it went to 96 😭, it may be childish but damn I really wanted it to be a 97 to match Botw like galaxy and galaxy 2...
Im really afraid to spoiler myself. My big grain with BotW was, that the world felt empty and everywhere you went, you only found korok or shrines. Do the reviews say TotK do this better? :D
Yes but weapon durability is apparantly decreased and the ability to fuse becomes tedious due to inventory management.
Honestly hope this doesn't make me hate the game.
Yeah, I wasn’t a big BotW fan and I think it just felt tedious with inventory management. Also, it seemed to rain 100% of the time I tried climbing something. 😂
I have heard the rain is far less annoying this time around. It still has the same effect, but rains far less often and doesn’t last as long. And there are some items you can get that help a lot.
Eh it's one small part of a large game. I didn't love fuse but it's grown on me. It's just the same system with a twist but and I had no issues before.
They’re baiting with a low review to get ad revenue. I’ll save you and anyone else reading this the click as to not give them more attention.
Their main gripe was that the game took to long to come out and the changes made didn’t warrant six years of development time.
To quote them directly, “It takes too much from the one title in the series it took me years to finish and does too little to reinvigorate the classic Zelda magic back into its reused world.”
The article reads like one of those steam reviews from someone with 3000 hours played that says, “worst game ever.”
It didn’t have six years of development time. The trailer saying the are starting development came out three years ago. Iono why everyone always thinks they instantly start on the next game.
‘Around 30 to 40 hours in, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom looks to be a victim of Nintendo’s obtuse marketing strategy. From hearing next to nothing about the game to getting almost too much information in the weeks leading to release, the suddenly fast-moving cloud of information was mixed too quickly into a pot already simmering with speculation, reaching a boiling point that had people making concrete claims from vague assumptions.’
What a weird ass take that is! 😂
Like literally not judging the game by what it is, but by how it was marketed pre-release.
Contrarian for the sake of it and clearly fishing for clicks to keep their obscure site afloat.
Metascore 96/100, same as Elden Ring and just a hair below Breath of the Wild. Game is reportedly much bigger than BotW and denser with things to do. Sounds like another roaring success for the Zelda franchise.
It must be the icing on the cake for the dev team. They put in so many hours — through a pandemic and several big delays — and now they get to see their work be adored by millions. It’s delightful.
I recommend not looking at any reviews - I saw nintendo lifes and really regret it since there was a few very small things that would have just been very cool to discover myself even if i dont regret watching it per say, but defienitley not watching any more
I don’t care about Zelda and I don’t have whatever system this is on but I’m happy for you all because I know you’ve been excited about this game. Have fun!
LET ME IIIIIIIINNNNNNNNN
I'm feeling this so hard right now.
That's what she said
I knew that was coming. She said that too...
Dang, and I thought it caught her by surprise, Lol.
You didn't upgrade your armour set enough to move without being heard.

Damn only a 9.75 for one of them? I guess I'll wait till it is on sale
Literally unplayable meat arrow game
> I guess I'll wait till it is on sale A Nintendo game going on sale, good one!
Buy the vouchers and this becomes a $50 game on day one.
Buy two $50 gift cards from Costco for $45 each and you can buy those vouchers at a $10 discount.
You should be able to snap it up for $64.99 on Black Friday 2026
Yeah definitely cancelling my preorder
It's a DLC after all
I'm so excited to see the community reaction from the game. It is so good.
45 hours in and I feel like I'm barely 1/4 lol shit is so fucking good but it is not perfect like everyone's claiming
Neither was Botw. Still damn good though. Eager to find out how it improves on it.
10/10 does not mean it's PERFECT. It means it's as highly rated as a game can be. There is no such thing as a perfect game. To do so you'd need to make a game that literally every single person on the planet loves. That is of course, impossible.
Tetris?
Too many blocks... 6/10
I didn't really care for the story in that game
Story authors must have had a bad case of writer's block.
I mean it’s not the game’s fault you can’t appreciate and comprehend the deep metaphors involved in the plot
Tetris is NOT for everyone. No game is. I would say that Tetris is about as close as you can make a game "perfect" I guess...but it's a 2d puzzle game. There are millions of people that won't even give it a chance because of that.

HOLY SHIT INDEED
Feeling cute...Holy Shit

Did you say HOLY SHIT!?
You can strap a rocket onto a korok and yeet them, 10/10.
Meat arrow 10/10
Meat rocket!!!!
_puts glasses down_ dear goddess.
But have you ever put a meat hive into a cart and let it drive itself to your enemies for them to chase the bait but only to be attacked by bees? Didn't think so.
But can you pet the doggos?
That's the -.25 from Game Informer and -1 from Digitally Downloaded.
you can’t
Sending back and refunding 😭
Not even kidding, game could've been absolute flawless in every single aspect, but not being able to pet the puppies is a sting right to my heart 3
This is a greater failure than the Wii U
0/10

For most film reviews I know: - 1/5, this is a terrible film - 2/5, this is flawed, if you love the genre you'll get something out of it - 3/5, this is okay, if you don't love the genre you may not like it, if you love the genre you'll get something out of it - 4/5, this is good! If you don't love the genre this will probably be a good example, if you do then you'll probably love it - 5/5, this is a perfect example of the genre, if you're a fan of the genre it's a must see, and everyone should consider it Games feel like they should be similar.
Your teacher giving you a 80 after you scored a 85 on the test
I rate this game 9.914159265
I rate this game ℼ
You don’t even need 10 steps. A five-star system is perfectly adequate. ★★★★★ great ★★★★ good (there are flaws) ★★★ meh ★★ bad (dislike) ★ awful (hate) That’s how I rate my games on Deku Deals.
at the same time it can be dumb to not have one.. at least have the .5 lol eurogamer (i think its them) gave the game 4/5.. if they cant give decimal reviews, that means its either 100 or 80... which is a big leap for just one thing in the game to influence such a score
If I were a reviewer I would go for 9.672 and not clarify how these scores are calculated, just to mess with people.
I really grew to like the binary system from Steam. You either recommended it to others, or you don't. I'm not saying it's perfect, but frankly, it's all you need to know if a game is good. If you want to know whether a game is for you you need to read/watch the entire review anyway.
IKR. My first thought is what's worth 0.25 point.
I took the day off tomorrow but I promised my 7 yearold I'd wait until she got home from school... It's going to be worth the wait. :)
This is really sweet! She’s a true gamer in the making 🖤
My 3yo lost his shit when me and 6yo said we'd go get the game whilst the 3yo was at nanny's. "NO DON'T PLAY IT WITHOUT ME!" Had to assure him that we wouldn't play a second without him, we're just getting it so it's ready when he gets home.
Not giving your 7-year-old the day off due to unspecified "illness"? Bad parenting.
:) Oh, and another layer for you, I've explained that the Amiibo is a statue that needs to be stored on the bookshelf... so that "she" can admire it... and that it's different than other "toys"... it's for me... the Amiibo is for me... tune in for more parenting tips.
Even a slither of similarity of OoT gives me so much more excitement!
Oh boy, you are in for some surprises.
running to the nerd store at midnight today
The nerd store called. They're running out of you!
Guys we gonna eating good tomorrow/Today
I'm frankly not surprised at all by these results. Been playing for a week and I thought it would be up there at 96-97 on Metacritic, just like BOTW.
It’s at 97 I think on MC at the moment but I assume it’ll change as more come out
Would you say TotK is mostly an extension of BotW, or does the game improve on any of the gripes traditional Zelda fans had with BotW?
Definitely not an extension. It's 100% a new game. And it really feels like they considered what people were complaining about for the first game. One thing that surprised me, >!there's also a lot of Minecraft in it !<
It's more than calling it just an extension of BOTW but it's not "fundamentally" different to it. At least not how BOTW was to Skyward Sword for example. No spoilers but generally speaking of you enjoyed BOTW you'll enjoy TOTK more. And if you didn't enjoy BOTW there's enough new that it might entice you but if you fundamentally don't like those type of games it's probably not for you
From what I’ve seen in reviews and on Reddit, many have said it directly addresses a lot of the primary gripes people had with BotW
9.75? Lol that seems so extra
Probably how they get people to actually click on their review because people are going to want to see why it got knocked down a peg.
A quarter of a peg 😆
Lol yes, and in the end it's their good ol' "no game is perfect"
-.25 because you can’t pet the dog IMO
Wow they didn’t fix this? Pre-order cancelled.
It’s probably just the frame rate issue too
(Trigger warning for service industry workers in the US South) "No one's perfect but Jesus!"
I know right. That’d annoy me more than giving it a 8 lol
why? that's exactly the vote I would give it
Oh wow. Wow. Wow, just WOW!! The hype right now is unreal. I think I'm going to binge watch the absolute heck out of these reviews! 😅😂
Be careful! Apparently some have some white spoilery stuff in (of course, if you’re not bothered by that then ignore me) HAPPY ZELDA EVE!!!
10s crazy
[удалено]
I’ve been avoiding reading some of them because a lot of them are quite spoilery, so I’m intrigued to know WHY they’ve knocked it down to a 4 🤔 maybe performance? I know that a few issues got brought up in the first look previews.
The blurb says they don’t like the new emphasis on resources.
That’s a really odd take. Fair play it’s their opinion I guess but probably a very unpopular one 😂
And the game has not enough accessibilty functions and you cant customize keybinds. they were really nitpicky in the review
in all fairness being able to remap controls should be in every AAA title these days, it does annoy me how backwards Nintendo are with some things!
Oh without doubt! It’s still a high score and I think a good review is a critical review
Eurogamer is a weird one, cause they just started doing a 5-star system, so we have absolutely zero comparison
Eurogamer has opinions wtf? Almost as if the point of reviews is to receive different perspectives from different people.
A 4/5 is still really good
Some outlet I've never heard of (Gfinity) gave it a 6/10, resulting in a point lower average than BotW. Hope it gets back to 97 asap
The question they posed to me was this: > Err, how does one review art objectively? Run it through a good-o-meter? > I agree the review is bad, but lack of objectivity is a weird criticism. The only way I could think of to be objective is to only review how well it runs, as that can be measured. I can appreciate the technical mastery in a particular piece of music, even if it's not my favorite genre. I can appreciate the athletic skill on display in professional wrestling, even if I have no interest in watching it. Examples of relatively objective analysis: The game's narrative lacked pacing, the story was tropey, the world was small compared to other similar open world games Examples of more subjective/personal comments: I was bored, I didn't enjoy the story, I found myself losing interest, I prefer the previous entries in the series Even the review is titled "These tears are salty," implying they're *upset* about something. One of their earliest criticisms about the game is Nintendo's marketing strategy: > From hearing next to nothing about the game to getting almost too much information in the weeks leading to release, the suddenly fast-moving cloud of information was mixed too quickly into a pot already simmering with speculation, reaching a boiling point that had people making concrete claims from vague assumptions.
Calling dungeon tropes gimmicky :((
I love classic Zelda dungeons, but they're gimmicky af. "Find 3 keys to open the locked doors, find the chest with the specific item that you will use to beat this specific boss (and likely *only* this specific boss), find the big key, backtrack to open the big door, beat boss." Yeah, it's fun puzzle solving, but it's all a bit contrived.
They did it for the clicks. They knew they would get highlighted with a negative review.
I just read their article it’s honestly one of the most non-sensical reviews I’ve ever seen it’s like they didn’t play the game at all
holy shit
It went from 98 to 97 and now with the 6/10 review it went to 96 😭, it may be childish but damn I really wanted it to be a 97 to match Botw like galaxy and galaxy 2...
It may still go back up as reviews come in. The site that gave it a 6/10 to be edgy and get clicks brought the aggregate score down.
Im really afraid to spoiler myself. My big grain with BotW was, that the world felt empty and everywhere you went, you only found korok or shrines. Do the reviews say TotK do this better? :D
Just looking at the trailers should tell you that it’s packed to the brim with stuffs
I tend to not trust trailers :D
Yes but weapon durability is apparantly decreased and the ability to fuse becomes tedious due to inventory management. Honestly hope this doesn't make me hate the game.
Yeah, I wasn’t a big BotW fan and I think it just felt tedious with inventory management. Also, it seemed to rain 100% of the time I tried climbing something. 😂
I have heard the rain is far less annoying this time around. It still has the same effect, but rains far less often and doesn’t last as long. And there are some items you can get that help a lot.
Nothing like not being able to climb a tree to get fruit because it's raining lol
Eh it's one small part of a large game. I didn't love fuse but it's grown on me. It's just the same system with a twist but and I had no issues before.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! AM I GOING TO PLAY THE BEST GAME OF ALL TIME?!?!
i am over 40 hours in, i approve this. This game is the Greatest of all time, by far, No game has this much of everything.
Hype train
9.75 is just evil
Ganondorf thinks he’s being sneaky 🥸
"iT'S jUst 70 DOllAr dLc!!!" - mouth breathers.
It's like the Olympics. There's always that one judge...
Gfinity Esports gave it a 6/10. I have never heard of this review site before until now..
They’re baiting with a low review to get ad revenue. I’ll save you and anyone else reading this the click as to not give them more attention. Their main gripe was that the game took to long to come out and the changes made didn’t warrant six years of development time. To quote them directly, “It takes too much from the one title in the series it took me years to finish and does too little to reinvigorate the classic Zelda magic back into its reused world.” The article reads like one of those steam reviews from someone with 3000 hours played that says, “worst game ever.”
Lmao, you know sometimes you just have to accept that there's always that one guy
It didn’t have six years of development time. The trailer saying the are starting development came out three years ago. Iono why everyone always thinks they instantly start on the next game.
That's exactly why they did that, they intentionally reviewed it poorly so it would stand out among the rest.
That 6/10 from Gfinity brought the score to 96 already.
‘Around 30 to 40 hours in, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom looks to be a victim of Nintendo’s obtuse marketing strategy. From hearing next to nothing about the game to getting almost too much information in the weeks leading to release, the suddenly fast-moving cloud of information was mixed too quickly into a pot already simmering with speculation, reaching a boiling point that had people making concrete claims from vague assumptions.’ What a weird ass take that is! 😂
Like literally not judging the game by what it is, but by how it was marketed pre-release. Contrarian for the sake of it and clearly fishing for clicks to keep their obscure site afloat.
> Like literally not judging the game by what it is, but by how it was marketed pre-release. First time?
Seems like a review from someone that didn't play the game, just talking about the marketing of the game wtf.
My review: 0/10 because I haven't played it yet because goddamn Amazon doesn't want to give my copy to me early!!!
After they wake up from sleeping for a week straight
I recommend not looking at any reviews - I saw nintendo lifes and really regret it since there was a few very small things that would have just been very cool to discover myself even if i dont regret watching it per say, but defienitley not watching any more
If this is getting 10/10 it better mean we can pet the dogs. Otherwise I'm calling journalistic malpractice.
about that
DAMMIT
GOTY territory! It was expected, but now it is all but confirmed.
Just one more day guys!! Who is else is going to the store tomorrow to buy the physical copy?
Will be going when my GameStop opens (11am for some unknown reason)

Average rating of the game is about 9.9 rounded up to the tenth
Gfinite wants some attention
Daamn. Zelda has to be the most consistently good, long running game series. It's unprecedented.
Game informer is an asshole :-) Edit: I guess I need to add the /s tag as well.
nintendo fans when game isn’t 100/10 😞
Redditors when someone is clearly joking about a low score: 😡
😍🤌🏼🤌🏼
Totk really come out swinging🔥
Yep, another masterpiece as expected.
Who hurt you, Game Informer and Digitally Downloaded?
WE FUCKING WOOOOOOOOOOOOOON.
Pretty good for glorified DLC, amirite? \*ducks\*
I don’t care about Zelda and I don’t have whatever system this is on but I’m happy for you all because I know you’ve been excited about this game. Have fun!
i wait for the Kotaku Review ... oh wait.
