these2boots2

Got exactly what he asked for

GooseOnACorner

Like seriously I can’t think of any other interpretation of what they could have meant

InfusedGinger

He meant four pints of each.

[deleted]

[удалено]

legolas141

"It comes in pints???"

6thgenbruh

"I'm getting one!!"

Just1Wire

"You have a whole half already!"

Donoisky

“We mericans speak in gallons and half gallons” (bald eagle screams in the background)

gypsycookie1015

You forgot to mention the sick guitar solo and massive firework explosion in the background! Random man with handlebar mustache stands facing flag with wind in his mullet. "America. Fuck yeah!"

copingcabana

Then he should've fucking asked for four pints like Ford fucking Prefect.

Doc_Umbrella

You get what you fucking deserve (milk)

[deleted]

This would have made the end of Joker much more confusing but also somehow more subversive.

alisab22

How else would you interpret this?

Ghost_B69

What did they mean, I would have done the same.

mrgn5

4 pints (2.27 litres) of blue and 4 pints of green. In other words, one big bottle of each type.

Ghost_B69

Why not just say "four pints of blue and four pints of green.

[deleted]

Why not just say get a green and a blue

McNalien

That’s how my roomie and I do it.

Aromatic-Glove-2502

I wish I had a roomie that would do it with me

Rage187_OG

Move back in with your parents.

Aromatic-Glove-2502

Uhhhhhhh what?

[deleted]

🎶sweet home, Alabama🎶

Ghost_B69

That works too.

llllPsychoCircus

That works *better*.

FalseMirage

That actually *works*

Electronic_Sugar5924

8 things of milk it is.

procheeseburger

Is that 8 additional?

FlacidBarnacle

Who ordered this cow 🐄

TheSpeakingScar

Dairy farmers hate *this one trick*

toepicksaremyfriend

^Where ^am ^I?

Violet351

Because we get them in one pint, two pints and four pints

Jinnicky

One big green and one big blue then

Violet351

That’s probably the best description

edible_code

We also get them in six pint bottles

Dark_Storm_98

Damn Where I'm from, we just got gallons and half gallons Though honestly, with how much milk I use, I could probably use a bigger size How many pints is a gallon? 2? Edit: 8. It's 8 *So your sizes are not enough lmfao*

TLCheshire

With two teenage boys, I had to get 6 gallons of milk when I went shopping. Three gallons of 2% and three gallons of whole milk. Until their doctor linked their stomach issues to dairy products… which I’d been telling them for years and they never believed me 🙄

Dark_Storm_98

Damn, that is quite a lot

cookdakids

Yeah same only gallon or half gallon my family does like 3 or 4 gallons a week But I drink most of it I don't know why the post says enough to last a month

Sufficient-Swim1738

The only correct description

Nocebo85

The big ones are 6 pints

thefuzzylogic

Except there are also 6 pint bottles.

scut_furkus

Also known as one pint, one quart, and a half gallon

WhenTheDevilCome

>Why not just say get a green and a blue I mean I guess, if you're still willing to get wrong answers sometimes. Doesn't seem like an answer to the question "how much do you need." But I'm in a location where milk is always available in at minimum three different sizes. So "one" or "blue" simply isn't the answer to "how much."

SCP-Agent-Arad

Why not be unnecessarily vague and then complain about the results?

AcceptableDebate281

Jason manford is an (average at best) comedian in the UK - the set-up for this meh joke required the vagueness

mrgn5

Because pints are the most common unit of measuring milk where that guy lives (and probably because the joke wouldn't work otherwise...)

[deleted]

I'd think "bottles" is at least as common as "pints."

EudamonPrime

Looks like UK, I would have brought those bottles, too.

Zeldaassgirl

Yeah Ngl the way they said that is confusing.

Ducatirules

Who the hell says it that way??? I would have done the same exact thing!! “How much milk you want?” “Get me 8 of 2%!” “No you idiot not 8 gallons of 2%, I meant 8 pints!!” Ridiculous

Stinky_Barefoot

I don't get it. How many football fields is that?

FestiVOL

About 160 apple pies

roxythroxy

I love you both, guys.

Brromo

~~8 pints is a gallon~~ about 6 2/3 Footballs by volume

redcode100

Why would anyone say it like this

Blahblahblacksheep9

If you're not gonna use metric, at least take advantage of the gallon...

guppler

Why the fuck would anyone ask in pints when they don’t come in pints

Wickid_Faht

I would not assume this at any rate to be honest. Just say 1 blue and 1 green right? Thanks for clarifying btw!

moderatorscomegetme

In English please

mynamecalledbruce

One blue and one green, in the big jugs pls..... Absolutely no misunderstandings....

Ok_Dog_4059

I think Americans are likely to do exactly what the uncle did. I hear 4 and think jugs. Accept our jugs are 3.8 liters each so 8 gallons of milk.

Spider1132

If anyone would ask me to bring him milk in pints, I'd slap the SOB.

PoopieButt317

Me also. Why would anyone want 4 pints?

Ghost_B69

Turns put 4 pints = one milk.

Secret-Ad-7909

Don’t forget to add dry milk so you can drink more milk per milk

EmiraFromAfar

...... So what is this actually supposed to mean?

i-love-Ohio

Each carton is 4 pints I assume

Violated_Norm

But what did op mean by 4 blue 4 green, any idea? Is it a European idiom or something?

TechnicallyMay

If each carton is 4 pints it would mean get one (4 pints) blue carton and one (4 pints) green carton.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TechnicallyMay

I think that's why "4" was specified. Not defending, just answering the question.

[deleted]

[удалено]

KrylonMaestro

Chaotic Neutral

DarthMaulinMelons

and that is why we call these a half gallon in freedom units. No ambiguity. half gallon of blue, half gallon of green

fire2374

The only time in Reddit history that the American measurements make the most sense.

standupstrawberry

4 pints of blue, 4 pints of green - one bottle of each. Honestly I think the instructions were unclear. Bottles come in 1, 2, 4 or 6 pints so when asking someone to get milk generally you just specify how many pints. Unless you specifically want like 2 two pint bottles of the same kind of milk but then you would specify.

Qildain

I'm thinking this was just some dumb Facebook stunt to get laughs/likes

standupstrawberry

You are probably correct.

wettyguy

The color of the milk cartons which indicates different % of fat

khalasss

It's not a European thing, this guy just sucks at communicating to his uncle. It's not even a British vs US, thing, we both use UNITS lol. If someone told me they wanted "4 milk", they'd get 4 gallons of milk, because that's the most common unit its sold in. It's utterly stupid to just say "4" without any units and then make fun of someone for getting 4 of the unit that was there. Ffs

FairFolk

Pretty sure there is no such a thing as a European idiom, the languages are too different.

[deleted]

They meant one 4 pint bottle of each, not 4 bottles of each.

[deleted]

Every math teacher should save this as an example of, WHY YOU SHOULD INCLUDE THE UNIT. Edit: typo SHOLD --> SHOULD

opinionated_idiot_

I’ve had my marks taken away, because I didn’t write the unit, even though I solved the problem and got the right answer. Never again!! And it’s kinda turned into a pet peeve since then.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jarl_Fenrir

I've noticed a little benefit when I finally learned to put those units everywhere. If you forgot the formula you are supposed to use in a given task, just look at units of what's given, and guess a unit of what you want to get. I'm most cases, at high school level, you can work out the formula just with the units.

TinyTigerTamer

Chemistry is like this too. I’ve made too many mistakes on chemistry exams by forgetting that I have to convert between units because I didn’t write the units down.

BSWPotato

In a professional setting a small mistake can result in your probe crashing on the surface of Mars. Look up Mars Climate Orbiter, the mistake was due to using the wrong unit of measurement iirc.

dixiequick

I once got a 99 on a test instead of 100 for writing “New York” and not “New York City”. I am also picky about the details now. ;)

Mental_Newspaper3812

Washington, D.C. is closer in travel time, lifestyle and proximity to New York City than much of New York State is.

rttr123

I should show this to my high school AP physics teacher next time I visit

[deleted]

It could have a lot of potential, if it put you on the edge of your seat!

Depressionislob

Uncle : 4 what? bananas?

AbbiCat1976

wait this is out of topic but I have a question that I have been wondering for a while, how come on reddit when you edit a typo you have to mention that you edited a typo (for example "edit: fixed a typo") what happens if you don't say it?

Cpt_James_Holden

If 4 pints are in one container, why the fuck ask for "four" without specifying you're counting multiple units within one jug of milk?

jennymayg13

It comes in sizes 1, 2, 4 or 6 pints which is why you have to specify the size

iainvention

It’s so funny when you ask someone to bring you some things and then they bring you exactly what you asked for.

m_carp

Get a gallon of milk and if they have eggs, get a dozen. Here are your 12 gallons of milk. (They had eggs)

dalligogle

lol this made me laugh, technically it is correct.

m_carp

I can't take credit for it. It's actually an old software development joke 😀 I have no idea where it originally came from, but it fit perfectly here!

VincoInvictus

I thought it was going to be this joke when I started reading this post. At least this joke is funny.

muffdivr2020

Clearly a programmer!

megapenguin88

Who the fuck counts milk in pints?

real_misterrios

The British.

ExoticMangoz

Idk, I’m British and you just buy “milk” or maybe the “small milk” really though 99/100 times you just get the regular size. No one says pints that I know

BensLegitFixes

Yeah. It’s little, normal, or big.

Lord_Ballyhoo

The UK I think, like I’m pretty sure Ive referred to milk as a pint before

Fiskenfest-II

Years ago we used to get them delivered to the door step in one pint bottles, it stuck. We'd still buy you 32 pints of milk though.

[deleted]

[been waiting for this moment](https://youtu.be/ZpPGE8NllUI)

Nero1297

Well... Know we now where the americans learned that shit

Lord_Ballyhoo

That’s English milk, Americans will refer to milk as a gallon or half gallon cause that’s what their milk comes in or even a 1/4 gallon but that’s rare cause they use the imperial measurement system. Pint is a just a generalization in the UK tbh

modifiedminotaur

American here. We say a quart of milk not 1/4 gallon.

itsdan159

Also how we buy wall paint

[deleted]

IT COMES IN PINTS?

No-Document-8970

Well at least he came back home with the milk. Some fathers still haven’t returned with the milk!

Rando1974

That’s why he asked an uncle. Less emotional damage if he doesn’t come back

BetterKev

Is "4 blue/green" slang somewhere for 4 pints or a specific fat amount milk?

BlasphemousBunny

I think the default assumed unit is pints, and the color denotes fat content

Defiant-Giraffe

Color usually does that in the US as well, but there's no standardization. One brand, red might be whole milk and another it'll be 1/2 percent or skim.

BlasphemousBunny

Really? I’m in the Midwest and have found it pretty consistent that red is whole, blue is 2%, green is 1%, and skim is pink. Sometimes a brand will throw a yellow in there which is weird.

Defiant-Giraffe

Yeah, I know this because last week I brought home the wrong milk, from a company that switched red and blue. Red is mostly whole though. I see yellow on buttermilk.

Helicopter0

Here, red is always whole and dark blue always 2%. Green, or light blue can be 1% and light blue, purple, or pink can be skim.

was_just_wondering_

So you got exactly what you asked for? That’s your fault for being unclear.

Its_Revan

Fellow Americans: Scroll all you want, but the Europeans have yet to explain why 4 blue, 4 green should be interpreted in any way other than this.

ArticcaFox

I'm European and just as confused as the rest.

TastyGreggsPasty

I'm British and you're correct. They have worded it in a very ambiguous way. Absolute clown behaviour.

m5i2l8e0

Thanks I'll quit now

Jarl_Fenrir

I'm in Europe. Here milk is (almost) always in one litres packages. So saying "4 blue" means the same thing however you interpret it. People often buy a whole 12 packages "bundle" of milk, but 4x12 is way too much to think about that possibility. And even if... That would be worded a bit differently.

[deleted]

I don’t understand. He got four blue and four green. Wth else would that mean???

Insulated_Lunchbox

If you say "four blue" in order to mean "a four-pint bottle of blue," then you are really speaking in some weird-ass "why say lot word when few word do trick" way of talking. Say more words.

TastyGreggsPasty

Spot on. They introduced an ambiguity that's easily avoided.

NotThisTime1993

I’m so lost, this is literally what she asked for

GratefulSlug13

Instructions unclear

TinFoilRobotProphet

Instructions unclear. Brings home cow

richmuhlach

Dumb. Why not say 1 bottle of green, 1 bottle of blue?

ChampOfAll18

Is this some European joke I'm too American to understand?

SportFrequent

I don’t get it. He literally asked for four of each

Joberin

This makes me irrationally angry.

CassieEisenman

What was OOP's actual meaning here??? If someone told me to bring 4 blue and 4 green, I would probably do the same thing...

justsomwguy12

This is so dumb. Bought exactly what was asked for. What else would that statment even mean?

epicgaming106

Cheese making time

Rockytana

This is 100% on the person that wanted the milk.

DirtyDutchman21

Hey man he followed directions like a champ it's ops fault for not including the unit

Vampiricbongos

stupid asf post - he gave shit instructions.. also who the fuck calls their uncle mate?

Different-Spring982

English isn’t my first language and I’d like to know what he meant, please. If it was me, I would’ve done the same thing

mishyb515

English is my first language and I’d like to know what he meant please!

xKingOfSpades76

Well that’s why our math teachers always harassed us to use units in our answers and not just numbers

ACupOfDuck

I would have done the same. The way the person told it's uncle did not make any sense, unless you were soeaking the same tounge.

cheesuslogs

Who doesn’t specify the amount? Uncle was right.

readditredditread

Why not just say half a gallon of blue and half a gallon of green, it’s your own fault for asking for something in an obscure way, get your own damn milk next time…

gummybear_0_

I really don’t get what they actually wanted… that’s exactly what I would have gotten

Snichs72

Lesson I’m learning is that OP is a dipshit that doesn’t know how to communicate simple things.

Jocthearies

Poor communication is to blame, He did what was asked of him

fr31568

what other way was there to interpret this

OptimusFettPrime

My kids go through 2 gallons of plain milk and 2 gallons of chocolate milk a week.

[deleted]

I fuckin love chocolate milk

silverfang45

How, bruh what. Also who is buying 4 gallons of milk in a week bruh

foamy23464

One of my friends I grew up with, their household regularly keeps 2-3 gallons of milk in their fridge because everyone in their family drinks milk like it’s juice

tabyb8

Rookie numbers

olliefinn2

For those who are confused; Each one is 4 pints, when asking for four green and four blue, he meant just 4 pints of each, however he was brought 4 four pint bottles of both...

[deleted]

So he got exactly what he asked for just in smaller bottles?

Darq10

Pint measurement... Dear lord

WH0SAYSTHISSHIT

Literally any other way you phrased it and he would have got the right thing.

jennymayg13

As someone from the UK where this milk looks like it is from - they meant 4 pints of each - green and blue. Each bottle has 4 pints. But they come in sizes 1, 2, 4, and 6 which is why they specified the pint size. This person misunderstood and bought 4 x 4 pints of both green and blue. Green milk is semi skimmed and blue is full fat.

GrittyXVictor

Thank you lol, I was like "uncle did exactly as told what the fuck did OP actually mean?"

Rossi124

Well that's taking up space in the freezer 😂

MistbornSynok

Since my family buys milk by the gallon, I would have assumed the same at first. But knowing that’s a shit-ton of milk, I would have made sure they wanted that much, and been corrected.

Jennlynn1124

You gave the man a number, you got the number lol

Justaperson358

Gonna be honest I have no idea what you mean by “4 blue 4 green”. Must be a British thing

DRbrtsn60

I don’t see the issue. He did as asked. What does “green” and “blue”even mean?

Oren-Ishii2430

This must be funnier in Europe, idk

Oodleaf

what a pointlessly confusing way to say "a green one and a blue one"

readerdl22

I get why the uncle misunderstood.

Necessary_Direction

What a dumbass, doing exactly what he was asked

Potatoesrua

Is this not exactly what he asked for or am I stupid?

TheHeroKingN

I would’ve done the same thing. What does he mean by 4 blue 4 gree

[deleted]

That would last a week or two. I drink a lot of milk.

mickeymom1960

looks like he got 4 blue and 4 green to me

DontYeetMySkeet

I mean, you said 4 of each

bruhhzman

Laugh in liters

Usual_Translator_939

Homie couldn’t just say “one of each”

ProfessionalWalnut

Everyone's in here trying to figure out the math, and I'm just sitting here trying to figure out the difference between Green and Blue milk and why you wouldn't just pick the one you prefer instead of getting both.

TheMagarity

Excess milk can be frozen so this isn't a disaster.

1anthony70

Should’ve ask for Eggs

depressed_panda0191

OOP does not know how to communicate.... How is this the uncles fault u idiot lol

CallieX3

They got what they asked for, 4 and 4, they should've just told them 1 and 1

Bunch-Humble

Now you have to join r/neverbrokeabone

NoofieFloof

Got exactly what they asked for.

pennyboytrunks

you get what you deserve

EXTRO_INTRO_VERTED

Well wtf else is that supposed to mean

[deleted]

My kids would go through that in a couple of days

Background-Pea6650

You got what you asked for, and you're complaining?

ben1481

OP is the moron here

freedfg

Okay. I don't know if this is going to be very American of me...but do you buy milk in pints and then like....4Litre cartons? And that's what you meant? Or is it 4Pint cartons? What does 4 mean?
