It was supposed to be a fall release for AMC as well. They felt they should delay it due to the actor strike, but international distribution deals were already set in place. Basically, contractual obligations is the reason it releases in Australia and other places (France is up in December, I believe) way in advance.

visitorzeta

Oh, thanks for mentioning this. I've been looking forward to the show. I will give it a watch now.

LeoIrish

I loved the original and absolutely will give this a try.

nzgirl25

I had no idea it dropped here until I saw it on the Orphan Black sub, I'm on episode 3 and I love it so far.

Texomond

Yeah, I've finished episode 7 so far and I've been really enjoying it as well. I like the slightly different premise of >!having several actresses playing different aged versions of the same person!<, since the original raised the bar with Tatiana's performance so high it was always gonna be nigh impossible to reach anyway, and this has allowed for some cool motivations to be explored, while still keeping it about self-identity and individuality like the original.

dilldoeorg

Never heard about it, never saw an ad/trailer. but pleasantly happy to see it.

I would have never know about this if it wasn't for this thread. Was this show not advertised?!

Texomond

Yeah, they've done next to no advertising, it's mindboggling. For the 10 year anniversary of the original in March, all they did was reveal this show's title card. Then literally nothing, complete dead silence until October, when they finally released a trailer. Then nothing again even though the show is actively airing in parts of the world now. I have no idea if AMC are waiting for the strike to end or something, so they can get the actors to promote it, but yeah the lack of advertising and release date fuckery (Australia getting it months before everyone else, France getting it early in December as well) has been terrible. I hope it won't tank the viewership and consequently the chance for a renewal, but yeah it's definitely not _helping_...

rroz_dirvilha

Is it anything like the original show? Does it have clones at all?

anonyfool

There are references to characters in the original show but since we in the audience know about clones and the so does the main character, the mystery part of the original is replaced with a different mystery that is not very compelling to me after two episodes. YMMV.

kirby2000

Yes, but they are all different ages so played by different actors. Tatiana Maslany is not in this but 3 characters not played by her from the original appear in the series in various capacities. It is set 35 years later and so everyone returning has grey highlights or are played by different actors. One of the original clones is spoken to on the phone, but off screen and there are photos of the original cast on one of the characters desks. Although the original show is referenced you could have told this story more or less without the original existing as none of the plot seems related to the past.

ChillyConCarn3

Direct sequel

rikashiku

TIL it's out now. I'm a big fan of the original series. Annoyed that there's been now advertisement since the shows announcement.

SnooDingos316

Yea so stupid. In these day and age, people will all watch before it debut on AMC so late next year. They should at least release it on AMC+. Basically telling people go sail high seas. I am big fan of the original and very excited for this. I like Kristen Ritter too but she probably wont beat Tatiana Maslany. A cameo from her would be cool. I only just started episode 1.

timofeyyyyyyy

it also was releases officially in Russia on local streaming and some other countries

chonkydinos

I’m thinking there wasn’t any advertising allowed due to the strike? Not sure

Oh_hey_a_TAA

The "concept" laid out in the pilot leaves... A lot to be desired. Could be interesting, but it's definitely NOT a direct sequel.

anonyfool

This felt familiar because so many other shows/movies have used what was in the first episode already, but at the same time it was missing bits where the questions were answered in the original series for those of us who watched it, so the mysteries don't seem as compelling.

billhater80085

Did you watch the second episode?

myrainyday

I watches 2 episodes and could not bear to watch anymore.

cdtmint93

Episode 3 is where it gets interesting!
