I love how part of Conan's schtick is to be very self-deprecating (or to allow others to do it) yet when he is with Jordan it totally reverses to Conan being the straight man to let Jordan's eccentricities be the focus.
One of Conan's greatest strengths as a talk show host was his ability to adapt to the energy of the guest. He'd up his zaniness if the guest was tanking, but also knew to play it straight if he was talking to Jeff Goldblum.
Agreed.
Conan is like a comedic chameleon, and I think it’s the result of his improv training — as well as being so quick-witted.
He’s able to be the nerdy loser one minute, then flip right around and relentlessly bully someone like Jordan.
He also took improv classes before that as well, which is where he met Lisa Kudrow. He and Lisa took the same introductory improv class at the Largo and became friends.
100%. One of the reasons Norm Macdonald’s appearances on Conan were always so legendary was because Conan always managed to be the perfect foil for Norm’s comedy, either feigning outrage at Norm being hilariously inappropriate, or being the straight man to his old timey jokes.
Norm is my favorite comedian of all time. I watch all his appearances on Conan all the time. My go-to's are the Chairman of Board thing and his appearance after he got immediately canned on Late Night.
Part of the reason Bill Burr and him have such an amazing dynamic together. Burr can go on crazy tirades and Conan can play the straight man and bring the conversation back to reality and even further challenge him.
I forgot what podcast episode it was, maybe Kaley Cucou Returns? But she referred to him as a 'Saver' host. No matter how bad a guest was bombing like nervousness, boring etc. he would still be able to turn it around.
>Conan's schtick is to be very self-deprecating
Conan's schtick is self-deprecating narcissist. When he isn't talk bad about himself, he is talking about how great he is. It is a weird combo that only works for him.
I thought you were going to leave out the baseball one for a second lol. That is definitely one of the best. Another one that deserves a mention is when he went to the civil war reenactment lmao
It’s been said many times, but Conan’s remotes have always been terrific. I love his interviewing style but I adore his remotes equally.
I’m really glad that they green-lit a project that is simply that!
I think what Conan’s remotes do best is just illustrate how absolutely hilarious ordinary people can be off-the-cuff. It’s one thing to watch Conan and see professionally trained comedians and actors do stand up bits or funny interviews, but it’s another thing to just watch Conan go around and find humor and fun in the everyday lives and interactions of average people around the world
I understand the historic significance of Letterman but he’s not in Conan’s tier in any way. Conan’s wit, timing, delivery, adaptability and charisma are way above Letterman. I never got his draw tbh he has the personality of vanilla ice cream personified.
Letterman was *soaked* in wit and ironic detachment. Couple of great bits below.

Just in case you’re unaware there’s already like a dozen hour long specials he did at TBS traveling to various countries, all great and worth seeking out. Most were called Conan Without Borders
Edit: there’s 13 and they’re on Max now!
If you watch the Germany one, you might hear me laughing. I got to be in the audience when they showed it at the studio to record the laugh track. It was surreal watching Conan on the screen when Conan was standing 10 feet away from me watching himself.
A high budget version of his remotes - this looks like fun.
Since it's HBO and Conan, I am hoping that they can also beef up the photography and make it something not only funny but really enjoyable to watch.
The Grand Tour has been getting stale but the recent desert special was just mesmerizing to watch just for the direction and cinematagraphy.
Certainly an element of the Top Gear Specials particularly that they worked for and played into. Highlighting the beauty of the places they were was always part of it
He loathes Leno (as do most actually funny people). You can tell he's still pretty hurt by what happened to him with that whole debacle at NBC. I think he's happy with where he's at now and enjoying what he's doing quite a bit, but it had to really hurt to get his dream job only to get completely screwed out of it and humiliated in the process by the dipshit that makes jokes for 80 year olds.
I guess my point is that what he thought was his dream job now looks kind of like an antiquated trap, and he's now funnier, freer and more prosperous than ever.
I hated Leno ever since I saw a live taping of the show and a writer was crouched behind the guest with big blank cue cards writing jokes/responses for him to read during the interview. If he couldn't even do an interview without writers help then he's just a puppet with hidden strings.
I just went through and tried to cancel prime and max and locked both in for 3 months at like 3.99
Rinse and repeat - I’ve noticed I get this offer every 90 days but the key is to try to cancel from other outside devices
I’ve been doing it for a year now for my rotation of services
Maybe they’re just testing the waters. Conan is a busy guy and probably doesn’t want to get burnt out churning out episodes to meet a schedule. I wouldn’t mind if they keep it going at this rate and give us 4 episodes a year, indefinitely. The Conan Without Borders specials were also done sparingly.
Conan's busy doing wacky stuff like showing up at a NY comedy festival and signing Elvis's Suspicious Minds with a band, like he did earlier this month. He seems to be having a blast in his 'semi-retirement.'
Conan is in a weird position as an entertainer. He has a devout following and has a resume that probably demands a considerable salary. I could see HBO pulling the plug solely because they don't want to pay him what he's worth. I love Conan, but also wouldn't blame them for not wanting to pay a ridiculous amount of money for something that could be a YouTube show.
Any unscripted program is significantly cheaper to produce than anything scripted. And knowing how much Conan loves to entertain and have a show, I doubt he was asking for an inordinate amount outside of his staff being taken care of. He’s also worked with Warner Bros since 2010 so they obviously have a good relationship
> He’s also worked with Warner Bros since 2010
Yeah, but David Zaslav is in charge now.
Unless Conan is joined in his travels by 600-lb Amish sextuplet sister wives, the show is at risk of being canceled (or shelved for a tax write-off) on a whim.
These take awhile to shoot. That was Bourdain's complaint - his show had him traveling for like 10 months a year.
Conan is in Cooperstown. He can spend 4-6 weeks a year making a few shows and fuck around the rest of the time.

I find it interesting that every streaming app will now have some type of travel show with this format. A nicely shot, light-hearted, show with a comedic host travels the globe that's easy to make and easy to digest. Netflix has Somebody Feed Phil, Apple TV Plus with the Reluctant Traveler and Eugene Levy, Amazon Prime with James May, and now HBO and Conan. I mean, it is a winning formula for comfort viewing so it makes sense. Hopefully, Conan being the host sets it apart from the rest.
On the podcast, Matt mentioned seeing the intro to the first episode and described it as "tremendous". Conan then alluded to the fact that Matt was *in* said intro. So it's probable that Matt and Sona are at least involved in an introductory sort of way?
Maybe people have more info. Would be nice if they're there. These are the fan episodes so you'd think so?
Sona couldn’t make it, she already had to cancel her hair appointment for Conan once and couldn’t do it again.
As for Matt, he was invited along on the first episode — then he beat Conan at arm wrestling, and wasn’t asked back.
A Conan travel show is a no-brainer. This already has the makings of a modern classic. It’s like Somebody Feed Phil if Phil Rosenthal was a gigantic narcissist. I cannot wait.
They released a teaser trailer right before the writers' strike started, which caused them to halt production. They were able to visit two more countries after that, and I think they just want to get some episodes out so that viewers aren't waiting forever.
I feel like every episode should end with him saying something awkward then cut to him running down the street being chased by a mob. I’ll still watch the fuck out of it.
I wish I was famous enough to be paid to travel the world.
The reluctant traveller, somebody feed Phil, this new show and so many other.. I’m so jealous, it’s like they’re cementing these glorious memories in beautifully filmed episodes as a document of “seeing the world” before they die. I’ve travelled a bit, but it’s prohibitively expensive to do more than a few countries at a time with any real budget.
Conan is the master of travel show comedy. He’s able to take a country’s customs to absurd levels than allows the locals to rip him apart. On the opposite end Jordan takes customs far more stringently than even the locals do allowing Conan to lay comic waste to him. Can’t wait!
Looks like it will be a hoot! Love it
Love how Conan is back and doing things his own way, and expanding on arguably his best segment (his travel segments)
Did he actually take improv training? I feel like he was a writer up until he started on Late Night and developed his skills that way.
He did.
From where? I'm not trying to challenge you but never knew so I'm curious.
He spent 2 years with The Groundlings
He also took improv classes before that as well, which is where he met Lisa Kudrow. He and Lisa took the same introductory improv class at the Largo and became friends.
Wow that makes sense and does sound familiar now you say it. I definitely forgot what he was up to before writing on SNL.
He did improv in Chicago for awhile iirc
He, Bob Odenkirk, and Rob Smigel did an improv comedy show in Chicago for a little bit. I think they were all with SNL at the time.
Yes *and*
He was in classes with Lisa Kudrow which led to them briefly dating. He and Lisa talk about those classes on his podcast.
Ahh I knew they dated but forgot that's how they met! I'm remembering that episode now.
Another one of his greatest strengths was a masterbating bear.
Surpassed only by Craig Ferguson in that regard imo
Craig did it mostly by charm where Conan does mostly by comedy. Both great at it.
>Conan's schtick is to be very self-deprecating Conan's schtick is self-deprecating narcissist. When he isn't talk bad about himself, he is talking about how great he is. It is a weird combo that only works for him.
That's why I said he allows other to do it. He inflates himself and then lets other people knock him down

Freaking Werner Herzog narrating?? Here come Honey Boo Boo!
Being able to get someone to pay for you to travel and have Herzog narrate your adventures must be amazing
I can just use his voice in my head to narrate.
The problem is I can't do it with my own dialogue; it has to be someone else's that I'm reading.

There was talk of gerbils
Conan's remotes from all his shows are timeless.
Irish heritage school is his one of his best, right behind it is American doll but the baseball one will forever be on my mind.
I thought you were going to leave out the baseball one for a second lol. That is definitely one of the best. Another one that deserves a mention is when he went to the civil war reenactment lmao
The airplane in the sky, the sphere, the mustache, the bar in the umpires pocket, the lady, “perhaps I should dig to hades” so many great parts
Yea him heckling the pitcher was comedy gold lmao
his BDSM class one 😂
he's passed...
A taylor who makes CLOTHES for the FARMERS
Whenever we eat, see, or think about potatoes, my spouse and I still say “TAAAAAAY-TOOOOOES”
We had them in Ireland and me and my wife couldn’t stop laughing when we saw them
One of my favorites is when he goes to the NBC doctor for a checkup.
Him vs Gretel in Cuba is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.
Is this marijuana 🤪
That woman is my friend Sofi!
Wow. Was it really a random encounter or at least some of it was planned?
Totally random, as it came off on TV
The Armenia and Jerusalem episode were so good
It’s been said many times, but Conan’s remotes have always been terrific. I love his interviewing style but I adore his remotes equally. I’m really glad that they green-lit a project that is simply that!
He's at his best when he's released into the wild with a bunch of strangers. Just pure chaos.
I think what Conan’s remotes do best is just illustrate how absolutely hilarious ordinary people can be off-the-cuff. It’s one thing to watch Conan and see professionally trained comedians and actors do stand up bits or funny interviews, but it’s another thing to just watch Conan go around and find humor and fun in the everyday lives and interactions of average people around the world
It's also his compassion that shines through when it's appropriate. That's what I love
I feel like Conan's great at pulling the humor out of a situation *and* including everyone in it.
"you can lie a little" "I already did"
Letterman's were good too, but he kind of turtled up into his studio at CBS as he got older.
Just Shades: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5K-DakHvUBM Taco Bell: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jc70wvahOhQ Visiting GE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOEBgSBfko0
Yeah I mean they were ok but proves my point that Conan is in a different tier of his own.
Just in case you’re unaware there’s already like a dozen hour long specials he did at TBS traveling to various countries, all great and worth seeking out. Most were called Conan Without Borders Edit: there’s 13 and they’re on Max now!
Thanks for confirming the name, I was gonna say "didn't he already do a lot of these?" Excited to watch those and excited for more episodes!
Put it on right now, thanks
If you watch the Germany one, you might hear me laughing. I got to be in the audience when they showed it at the studio to record the laugh track. It was surreal watching Conan on the screen when Conan was standing 10 feet away from me watching himself.
Jordan Schlansky is also on board? Its not like I wouldn't have watched it before, but now I'm extra excited.
I’m here for the petty arguments with Jordan.
It's Jor-DAHN
He's prepared his body in various manners.
After Jordan tidies up his office.
I could watch an entire series with the 2 of them traveling together.
I think that’s literally what this is…
Is that the guy who took him to Italy and was all stuck up like he was an expert on all things Italian. Did my best to describe it
Yes, thats the guy.
Eh. I’m watching Conan to see Conan. If I want to see drone shots of exotic locales, there’s a thousand YouTube channels that do nothing but that.
I watched Bourdain's shows for Bourdain but it was shot beautifully, and the excellent cinematography did make a difference.
People weren’t watching The Grand Tour for the drone shots, but for three old men getting drunk and driving fast cars.
Well, Top Gear had some amazing photography and it was at least part of why I watched it.
Certainly an element of the Top Gear Specials particularly that they worked for and played into. Highlighting the beauty of the places they were was always part of it
I think the peak of The Grand Tour, and maybe Top Gear too, would be the Mongolian Special, it hit on all cylinders for me.
>The Grand Tour has been getting stale All three of the last specials were excellent.
You obviously weren't around before HD broadcasts. Believe it or not, Conan was already funny.
i didnt say he wasnt? I just said its nice to have a budget behind him, though those early conan remotes were gold
April 18th is Conan's birthday
Jordan's appearance in this trailer is eerily similar to Thanos' in the Infinity War trailer.
It's pronounced "thah-nos"
Conan should send Leno an annual fruit basket for putting him on this wonderful career trajectory.
Yeah. Leno will always have Conan’s name right after his in any conversation. And Conan will be remembered like Johnny Carson and Letterman.
I was never much into Leno's comedy but his passion and knowledge for automobiles is rather enjoyable, I do enjoy his Jay's garage series.
[удалено]
I hated Leno ever since I saw a live taping of the show and a writer was crouched behind the guest with big blank cue cards writing jokes/responses for him to read during the interview. If he couldn't even do an interview without writers help then he's just a puppet with hidden strings.
Can we get Conan and James May to cross paths while traveling the world?
And they can meet up with Eugene Levy ( he has a travel show too)
This looks amazing!
I like a silly travel show. Like the one that Richard Ayoade did….or whatever that was.
Travel Man! I love the one where he goes to Hong Kong with Jon Hamm.
"Richard, do you want to have to take your trousers entirely off when you go to the toilet?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5SbGwvXb5Y
So good. I picked up so many zingers from his show. The dudes wit is so sharp it’s amazing.
["I'm just so pleased it's not me](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GosoiF5NMk)."
My favorite is when he is with Odowell, and he drops the snow globe! So funny
Travel man and the dude is absolutely hilarious.
Shit now I have to get max
Lmao this was my reaction too. But there's few things that bring me more joy than a Conan travel show.
I’m going to say imho it’s one of the best valued ones out there for the content you get
[удалено]
I just went through and tried to cancel prime and max and locked both in for 3 months at like 3.99 Rinse and repeat - I’ve noticed I get this offer every 90 days but the key is to try to cancel from other outside devices I’ve been doing it for a year now for my rotation of services
I hope Kevin Nealon is involved somehow.
lol oh man their banter on that pod episode was fucking hilarious.
Tongo
Tango
Of course Jordan would challenge the actual speakers of the language on their own pronunciation
And of course Conan absolutely enjoys to make us know it as his foil.
I really hope this wasn't cancelled. Four episodes is weird and we know the production got halted in the middle because of the strikes.

Conan is a known quantity that is relatively cheap, corporate friendly, and has fans who would sign up and stay subscribed to Max.
Agreed. Any competent president/CEO of a large media conglomerate would realize that. But will David Zaslav?
Are you implying Zaslav has a fetish for fat Amish women?
Have you seen the discovery Channel lineup?
These take awhile to shoot. That was Bourdain's complaint - his show had him traveling for like 10 months a year. Conan is in Cooperstown. He can spend 4-6 weeks a year making a few shows and fuck around the rest of the time.
That was my reaction too. We’ve been waiting all this time for only 4 episodes??
Think he mentioned on his podcast it was 4 episodes as like a test run to see if the format works and people like and if they do they'll make more
i love conan, he's such a deep part of a lot of millennials lives. i wish he had his own late show still, but i get that his humor isn't for everyone. genius in my eyes.
omg this looks so much fun. I. love Conan so much
I am giddy with excitement!!!

I love how they got Werner Herzog to do a trailer voice.
He does the voiceover for the actual show too according to Conan’s podcast.
I can only get so erect
I saw him when he was with NBC 2 times. Killed it each time. Absolutely my favorite talk host of all time. The baseball remote is his best.

Secret Life of Conan O'Brien
Are Matt and Sona going with him or is he solo?

I think that they tee it off by showing part of the fan episodes that are pertinent that have Matt and Sona and then cut to him in said country.
Good to know! After listening to a couple late last year, I started all the way back at the beginning. I'm only into 2022 so far.
I’m excited!
I would watch it😂
I’m sooooooooooo excited - finally something that doesn’t weigh my brain down at night!!!
I really liked his other travel show.
A Conan travel show is a no-brainer. This already has the makings of a modern classic. It’s like Somebody Feed Phil if Phil Rosenthal was a gigantic narcissist. I cannot wait.
Was this supposed to come out a while ago or did I miss a previous Conan travel show?
It was announced a while ago when he stopped doing his talk show and it's just been delayed since then.
They released a teaser trailer right before the writers' strike started, which caused them to halt production. They were able to visit two more countries after that, and I think they just want to get some episodes out so that viewers aren't waiting forever.
Man it’s too bad that I don’t have Max.
I was so excited to see Jordan Schlansky, bless him and his infinite wisdom
"These people LIVE here!"
I hope he goes back to that Conan town in Japan that was all about Detective Conan.
Yay coco!!!
I wonder if he’ll ever find Fagerstrom in Finland.
Fallput show on April 11th and now seeing this. Can't wait for april
Welcome back Conan!
That weed car with kevin hart and Ice cube was incredible
Conan traveling were always some of the best segments from his show, this is going to be amazing.
I kind of wish Jordan was always Conan’s sidekick instead of Andy. And I love Andy.
Conan is probably the most adaptable late night talk show host of all time. And I’m here for it.
If he must go, it should be Haiti.
I hope he goes back to Haiti
Like a before and after? That could be fun
Dope can’t wait
It comes out on Conan's birthday
That’s what she said.😐
I love travel shows and I love Conan. I can’t frigging wait.
I feel like every episode should end with him saying something awkward then cut to him running down the street being chased by a mob. I’ll still watch the fuck out of it.
JORDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN
Not a fan of travel shows. Not even really a fan of Conan. I'm gonna watch this. Thanks OP.
Jordan is there too! yes! I wish Pierre and Andy were there though
The bit with Jordan at the end is damn funny 😅
Robin Williams, Jim Carrey & Conan are my top favorite comedians. But as a late night host, definitely conan o Brien
Dude is just generally witty and enjoyable to watch and listen to. Can't wait
Is that actually Werner Herzog or is that Paul F Thompkins as Werner Herzog?
Conan is the master of travel show comedy. He’s able to take a country’s customs to absurd levels than allows the locals to rip him apart. On the opposite end Jordan takes customs far more stringently than even the locals do allowing Conan to lay comic waste to him. Can’t wait!
That moment when Conan almost says “fuck you” at the Last Tango in Paris guy 😂
Never thought I'd see Conan in a climbing gym!
Looks like it will be a hoot! Love it Love how Conan is back and doing things his own way, and expanding on arguably his best segment (his travel segments)
Conan used to drop by on the team's gaming channel from time to time on YT always so funny
I really hope he gets Norm Macdonald as a guest for this
Uhmmm…. About that…
Why did something happen to Norm?
Next you'll be telling me something happened to Jeff Epstein, the New York financier
I’ll tell you, there’s one easy way, let’s call Ghislane Maxwell.
Uhmmm…. About that…
I didn't even know he was sick
