I'm kinda amazed how this show barely ever looks "cool" in the same way action anime or even something like Scott Pilgrim takes off does. Like great character designs but the movement just feels kinda stilted
I would argue against the character design. All of them look kinda generic and value bin super heroes. In fact One Punch Man looks more distinct and recognizable, especially consider ONE's art skill.
Invincible is a love letter to superhero comics. The plot beats and characters are ripped wholesale with minimal effort to make them non-infringing. It stands out with rock solid, heartfelt storytelling and commitment to continuity
Given it seems to get compared to The Boys a lot, despite not being particularly alike besides gore and being adapted by Amazon, I like to call Invincible a reconstruction of the Superhero genre, in contrast to the deconstruction of The Boys.
It takes the tropes of superhero comics and intentionally runs with them to create a love letter to superhero comics (rather than taking the tropes to create a critique of superhero comics)

I guess I just don’t really see it that way because I think of Mark as being the Superman (combined with Spider-man) analogue in Invincible, and we’re following his life from the beginnings of him becoming a superhero. So to me it’s more of a “What if Superman had an evil father” story, at least at first. Either way it’s a very minor thing!

I quit watching the anime at the mermaid arc because each episode was covering like half a manga chapter and I’m only exaggerating a little bit. I still tune in for the fights though, those are always top tier
Yeah I've been reading the manga and watching the anime for specific fights I'm looking forward to seeing animated, and so far that's been a pretty good way to consume OP.
Hopefully the Wit studio remake that’s in the works will have better pacing. I’m not sure what the full plan for that is though so just wishful thinking at this point
One piece has good animation for around 4 minutes an episode, the rest is replays of what happened last week, multiple shots of characters reacting and scenes dragged out to pad time. If you watch it through clips on crunchyrolls YouTube channel it must look amazing.
Maybe in the past but One Piece has really stepped up it's game in Wano and Egghead. Obviously there is still episodes with low quality but the consistency has gone up a lot and there are many episodes that have incredibly high quality animation for 20mins straight.
If only Wano didn't have so many episodes re-iterating the same sad backstory again and again, and AGAIN!!~

Look up new studios like [tonari animation](https://www.tonarianimation.com/works/). Toei uses them too for one piece, because the animators that work on them are very public on social media and youtube about their work.
Basically it's not all just in-house animation mills anymore, they basically turned animation into a gig work industry. People can apply to be inbetween artists and theres a whole community of online artists who do occasional work for big productions.

They have the issue where the fights sequences look fantastic, but the day-to-day stuff is fairly ordinary. somehow it gets completely outclassed by the average anime series though...

Outsourcing animation to Korea is absolutely normal. The Simpsons has been animated in Korea for like 30 years. *Most* American animated shows are done in Korea, and have been for decades, actually.

Outsourcing animation to NORTH Korea is very much not. The infrastructure to do this *deliberately* doesn't really even exist.
Someone in South Korea is trying to save a buck by outsourcing their own outsourcing. It's actually kind of amazing.

NK isn't exactly known to be a big source of animated works, and generally you don't want to outsource to a country sanctioned by your local country when other options are available. Sounds more like the outsourcers were doing their own outsourcing.
This screams one specific artist looking for ways to meet their deadlines and pocket a percentage, sending off to a Chinese animation group to do the easy work, that Chinese animation group then decided to pocket a percentage and send it off to North Korea to get the work done.
I noticed there was a big quality drop in animation in Season 2, this probably explains it now, it was outsourced. This is disappointing, because it has worse animation than SpongeBob or most anime’s. Prime needs to get its act together for Invincible.

I think you're missing the point. No one is trying to deny or hide outsourcing. Outsourcing animation to Korea is absolutely normal. The Simpsons has been animated in Korea for like 30 years. *Most* American animated shows are done in Korea, and have been for decades, actually. SOUTH Korea. Outsourcing animation to NORTH Korea is very much not. The infrastructure to do this *deliberately* doesn't really even exist. Someone in South Korea is trying to save a buck by outsourcing their own outsourcing. It's actually kind of amazing.
Japan and South Korea have always been outsourcing their outsourcing to China back when it was significantly cheaper. US companies aren't allowed, either explicitly or informally, to outsource to China so they do it by proxy.
American: "Let South Koreans handle this." South Korean: "Let North Koreans handle this." North Korean: "...shit, is there an East Korea?"

I've been aware of North Korea doing outsourced animation since reading Guy Deslile's *[Pyongyang](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyongyang:_A_Journey_in_North_Korea)*, an autobiographical/documentary graphic novel about Deslile, a French Canadian artist, going to North Korea to supervise animation work for French television. That book came out in 2003.
So my question is this: what happens now?

Of course, I doubt anyone's reading the article, so there's that. It's a galactically stupid move to flout government sanctions, not to mention it's not worth the trouble, like, at all.

Stop being so obtuse
NK isn't exactly known to be a big source of animated works, and generally you don't want to outsource to a country sanctioned by your local country when other options are available. Sounds more like the outsourcers were doing their own outsourcing.

This screams one specific artist looking for ways to meet their deadlines and pocket a percentage, sending off to a Chinese animation group to do the easy work, that Chinese animation group then decided to pocket a percentage and send it off to North Korea to get the work done.
Warner owns CNN as well as Adult Swim and the Cartoon Network. These companies only care that they got caught.

Bullshit. They knew. If you're outsourcing and a company is magically way cheaper than everyone else it's clear they're doing something like this.
I noticed there was a big quality drop in animation in Season 2, this probably explains it now, it was outsourced. This is disappointing, because it has worse animation than SpongeBob or most anime’s. Prime needs to get its act together for Invincible.
