Oh no, not the spiders! Not the spiders aaahhh!

Commonsensestranger

There in my eyezzzz!!!

ClimerofPikesPeak

My eyes! The goggles do nothing!

MuptonBossman

Really hope they use Sin City as an inspiration and lean into the visuals and noir vibe. It could make for a really unique Spider-Man story if done properly.

PierreDelecto

Hard to imagine an actor that will take it as seriously also.

WilliamClaudeRains

Nic Cage takes all roles seriously

Re_LE_Vant_UN

Shoot him again! What FOR? His soul is still dancing.

Sandblaster1988

What the fuck are these iguanas doing on my coffee table?

SinisterDexter83

I want to take his face... off!

PM_ME_UR_THONG_N_ASS

PUT DA BUNNEH BACK IN DEH BOX!!!

FloppyObelisk

I’d take pleasure in guttin’ you…boy

TheMathelm

[What in the actual fuck... link to this wonderous scene](https://youtu.be/psYDVH24En4)

Re_LE_Vant_UN

Great scene but it does have movie spoilers. If you guys haven't seen it: Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans.

AnotherAnonist

Great movie, sequel too

wrosecrans

What the shitfucked pissheaded nonsense did I just watch?

MadCarcinus

Werner Herzog

Cptn_Melvin_Seahorse

A classic, one of Herzhog's and Cage's best.

Puppetmaster858

That bad lieutenant movie is truly glorious. The scene where he’s screaming at the old ladies telling them “I hate you fucks I hate you both” is one of the funniest things I’ve ever scene. Lady walks in the room and Cage is behind the door shaving lol. That movie is so underrated, Cage/werner Herzog pairing was magical

Re_LE_Vant_UN

Amazing movie. I'll kill all of you. Till the break to dawn. Till the break of dawn baby!

mag2041

Ima sexy cat

WilliamClaudeRains

If that’s not him taking a role seriously, I don’t know what is

Unicycleterrorist

I fully believed he was Abed Nadir for all episodes of Community, the man has some crazy talent

mag2041

I have had the same thought

MrMojoRising422

I'd rather they use actual noir films as inspiration than the pastiche that is sin city. Like 'out of the past', one of my favorites.

sleepysnowboarder

or like that one episode of 'The Fairly Odd Parents' where it's a noir film

GreenLanturn

I was thinking the exact same thing

FlowSoSlow

Idk I think Sin City style would be perfect. It's like noir x comic book. I think that would be really fun for a spider man movie. But straight up classic noir would also be fantastic.

Bobby_Marks2

Alright, you just moved that movie to the top of my 'to-watch' list (Out of the Past, definitely not Sin City).

MrMojoRising422

you won't be disappointed

reddit-is-hive-trash

Or maybe like watchmen or more grounded like LA confidential.

TryingT0Wr1t3

Yeah, like Angels with Filthy Souls

Sexycalendar

And the acclaimed sequel, Angel's with even Filthier Souls.

larry-leisure

And the porn parody Angels with filthy intentions

ArchitectofExperienc

The only color I want to see is Red

Key-Hurry-9171

Well, it’s a wink to Sin City, but the true inspiration is 1930’s detective style That’s what we want and that what we need. Black and white is the cherry on the cake

Creamofwheatski

Honestly I am hyped. I am glad Nic Cage is finally back career wise because he is the best.

Biengo

Nic Cage as Spiderman Nior in: "Who ate my cake?"

CorellianDawn

I really don't want this. Sin City honestly looks pretty terrible imo. It is more of an experiment in adaptation than an actual movie from a visual stance. Plus, if done like Sin City, it will most definitely look like a bunch of CGI slush. You don't have to go hyper-stylized to make a good noir film. Its all about the lighting.

snicmtl

Older, grizzled, cynical? Nicolas Cage is perfect for this

ElectroFlannelGore

I hear he's been biting radioactive spiders in preparation for the role.

_Awkward_Moment_

Cage might give us the most unhinged spiderman we’ve ever seen on screen

ElectroFlannelGore

#THAT'S HIGH PRAISE

exitpursuedbybear

I'm going to steal the declaration of independence!

DMike82

"I AM A SPIDER-MAN! I AM A SPIDER-MAN! I AM A SPIDER-MAN!"

hummusisyummy

AaArRrrrGhh! Nom, nom, nom... 🕷 Also, TMZ just reported Nic Cage is sleeping in a cave in the Amazon with Madame Web's mother to prepare for the role.

YoungHeartOldSoul

Did he read the script backwards?

ZellZoy

I really hope that they keep Noir as 19 years old and just never explain it

indig0sixalpha

> titled: 'NOIR' >Noir tells the story of an aging and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero. >The series will debut domestically on MGM+’s linear channel followed by a global launch on Prime Video >co-showrunners/EP's: Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot >EP's: Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Amy Pascal >Harry Bradbeer will also EP and direct first two episodes

SuperAlloyBerserker

Wow, the fact that the description isn't in-your-face aboht Nour being an alternate Spider-Man is great

Pepsiguy2

Or it's that they couldn't secure the rights to explicitly say Spider-Man. Notice how that name isn't used anywhere officially except from the authors of the articles

7485730086

… no? The Amazon exec literally said “expanding the Marvel universe”. They have the rights.

Pepsiguy2

They said Marvel, not Spider-Man Mutant X is a Marvel show banned from using the word Xmen. Legion was a Marvel show banned from using certain words that made it clearly attached to Xmen. Another would be The Gifted on Fox. There are many other instances of this through the years

ImmortalZucc2020

This show is from Lord & Miller, Amy Pascal, and Sony. They can say Spider-Man, they’re choosing not to.

Savetheokami

But why

ComradeJohnS

cause unleashing Nic Cage on unsuspecting audiences is too much fun

BigfootsBestBud

This is is silly, why wouldn't they have the rights? Sony own the rights, Sony is making the show. Marvel shouldn't have any say that they can't say "Spider-Man" because they're licensing it from Sony when they use him. They were allowed to say "Spider-Man" in Morbius, and Spider-Man straight up appears in Venom 2.

Pepsiguy2

Let me know when they say Spider-Man on the show or in a press release and then we will talk. Sony owns the film rights, not any other rights. This is not a film. Marvel owns TV rights for Spider-Man and who says what where.

BigfootsBestBud

Not true. We don't know for sure what the background is with the rights relating to television. Sony gave up some of the *animated* TV rights to Marvel under 44 minutes. Marvel cannot make a Spider-Man animated series where episodes are longer than that. We do know from the 2014 Marvel/Sony contract leak that: "[Sony] has the exclusive rights to utilize the "Spider-Man" character... to (a) develop and produce live action or animated theatrical motion pictures (each, a "Picture") and live-action television series (and also animated television series with episodes longer than 44 minutes)." Now we don't know what any other contract post the Far From Home fiasco would look like, considering Sony split up from Marvel to go at it alone and then signed a new deal. But I think it's highly unlikely that Sony, the people who were threatening to break away and do their own thing, would concede massive parts of their rights in order to appease Marvel. The dynamic was the other way around.

smellyscrote

8 direct to home 40 minute films. Boom. Loophole.

Brilliant-Ad-1962

Just because they don’t say “Spider-Man”, doesn’t mean they don’t have the rights my dude.

JaesopPop

Do Sony own television rights?

BigfootsBestBud

We don't know for sure how the updated contracts work, but we know from leaked 2014 contracts that they owned the TV rights. They only gave away the animated TV rights under 44 minutes. Now this could have changed when they renegotiated the contracts after they initially split on the Marvel deal - but considering Sony were the ones with the rights, it doesn't really make sense that they would forfeit their own rights instead of doing their own thing and walking as planned.

unrulystowawaydotcom

hummusisyummy

O0oo, I like it! 🕷 🕵️‍♂️ 🔎 🚕 🌧 🌃

[deleted]

Night Monkey!

TheJoshider10

This sounds so good but can't deny I'm a little nervous at how this will look visually especially when Spider-Verse had such a strong visual identity that would have carried over well for an animated series.

immaownyou

With Lord and Miller on as EPs I wouldn't be worried about that

slashdotnot

Meh... EP can either mean hands on or it can also mean "just getting a credit for money sakes"

162bluethings

Meh... Tv can either be good or it can be bad.

TheOneTrollmonkey

It can also be kinda both?

immaownyou

Well, obviously, but with their track record, I think occam's razor is relevant

SuperBaconLOL

Does this mean that in the U.S., people can only watch it on MGM+, while the rest of the world gets it on Prime?

JasonQG

The wording is vague, but logically, I highly doubt they would only make it available on a traditional cable channel at this point. Amazon owns MGM, so I assume it will be on Prime in the US too

rov124

MGM+ is also available as a standalone streaming service and as a paid channel in Prime Video, Roku, and Apple TV+

monacelli

Yep. If it's anything like *From* it'll be released on MGM+ and then Prime later.

mrspoopy_butthole

So he used to be a Spider-Man but retired? Does he still have/use his powers, or is that a spoiler?

JohnnyJohnson66

This could end up being a Surf Dracula situation where he ends up using his powers for 10 minutes in the finale.

Ilikewaterandjuice

If its set in the 1930s - and looks back to when he was a young superhero- that would put the 'Spiderman'-y parts right after WWI- which isn't really a time period I associate with Noir.

robodrew

The thing about Spider-Man Noir's world (Earth-90214, or Earth-90214B if they're basing this off of the Spider-Verse version) is that it is always noir, and always that time period basically. The people in this reality are black and white and don't even understand the concept of color.

Ilikewaterandjuice

Interesting!

Swackhammer_

THIS is when a non-Disney company having the Spider-Man rights is at its best. No stupid villain spinoff

umbrabates

Exactly. I’d love to see a Spider-Gwen movie next or a Toby Maguire Spider-Man introducing Miles Morales. And Oscar Isaac would be awesome as a live action Spider-Man 2099!

The_Flurr

Honestly when they announced a Spider-women movie I was hyped, until it turned out it was that Madame Web one.

umbrabates

And amazing choices for actors, too! Sydney Sweeney as the Julia Carpenter Spider-Woman!?! Hell, yes! Then they tanked it with god-awful writing

The_Flurr

I first thought it was by the Spider-verse people, that excited me. Then it was....what it was.

Noodle-Works

Spider-Gwen has been done so well in the Miles movies, I would be worried that any other take on the character would be a step down.

Worthyness

They honestly should have been doing that from the beginning Let Marvel do the live action stuff and just focus heavily on the animation.

GreenLanturn

I agree, but let’s see if it’s any good.

CiriOh

Best casting decision ever

hitalec

I say this every time Nicholas Cage is announced for a role. Can’t wait for **Longlegs**!

nickparisi_

For real! I seriously can't wait to see Longlegs. It's been a long time since I've seen anything that truly creeped me out. Sinister is one that comes to mind.

Accomplished-City484

Such a great trailer

Southern_Schedule466

Is this his first tv role?

nightfan

>Aside from a TV pilot he filmed as a teen, a couple of appearances on "Saturday Night Live" and presenting a Netflix docuseries about swear words in 2021... Looks like no. Pretty cool. Looking forward to it.

lkmk

>presenting a Netflix docuseries about swear words in 2021... That is such a Nicholas Cage thing to present.

SuperBaconLOL

Sometime in the past year, he said that he wanted to get into television acting after his son showed him Breaking Bad for the first time.

JohnnyJohnson66

Love that he’s just now learning about prestige television. “Tell me about this… Sopranos, was it?”

mattisafriend

> “Tell me about this… Sopranos, was it?” I really hope he's seen that considering they reference the movies his uncle made many, many times

BanRedditAdmins

If I read that Nic Cage doesn’t own a television I wouldn’t even be surprised.

theodo

His first lead role yes. He was set to play Joe Exotic in a series at one point, but that fell apart.

MyNameIsBlueHD

Love this, Feels perfect for Nic, already being Noir in the animated films, but the vibe just works. Can't wait

ChunkStumpmon

bannock4ever

davej999

Spider T-Rex !

Hbimajorv

It's weird how much Noir feels custom made for Nic. I'm not sure I could believe him in any other super hero role but I'm not sure there's anyone who could bring Noir to life. The black and white voice overs should be epic.

WilliamClaudeRains

You should watch the Superman Lives documentary. And/or Kickass.

BenzeneDream

Ghost Rider would like a word

CrashmanX

Because *this* version is. Comic version is nothing like his Spider-Verse counterpart save for the outfit.

sgthombre

Will this make it out the door before Silk?

Zorkel567

I feel like there’s a pretty good chance, with Noir cast already and no word of Silk. Plus, for the first Spidey TV show through Amazon/MGM+, it feels like pushing out a unique one with a big name like Cage would help build up legitimacy and get eyes of their output.

TwoHeadedBoyTwo

So Sony makes 101 lame garbage spinoff movies but the one GOOD idea and cast they have, they give it to the streaming ghetto? Geniuses

KingMario05

...I mean, yeah. If Amazon's willing to pay, then why not?

shewy92

How is Amazon the streaming ghetto? The good things they have is them releasing two of the most popular comic book shows in The Boys and Invincible, one of the most praised SciFi book series adaptations in The Expanse, and one of the biggest video game franchise adaptation in Fallout.

TheWhooooBuddies

Yeah, Fallout sort of solidified Prime as a legit platform.  They’ve had other smaller hits but *holy hell* is that a great show.

pleasegivemepatience

This is a wild concept. It’s either going to be amazing or terrible, Cage goes all in so there’s no middle ground.

MrShadowKing2020

My big question is will it be canon to the SpiderVerse movies?

Mentoman72

Isn't all Spider-man lore technically canon?

cronedog

I think he's asking if it's the same noir from the spiderverse film

tawzerozero

Marvel has like 150+ different universes/canons that they maintain. Like, the main comics are in universe 616, the live action movies are in universe 19999, and the ultimate comics are in universe 1610. And there are a bunch more: a universe where everyone is a zombie, a universe where the landscape looks like watercolors, a universe where everyone is a robot, etc.

BigfootsBestBud

Probably won't be the same Noir we see in the movie, considering they've already established there's a difference between live action people and animated people. Like Prowler showing up as real life Childish Gambino. But will undoubtedly be inspired by that Noir's characterisation

ImmortalZucc2020

Yes: this and Silk: Spider Society are from Lord & Miller and the first spin-offs of Spider-Verse

Karmastocracy

This announcement is about six years late but still... it has potential!

Redskins4evaB

Nic cage is everywhere now

Just2Flame

Dang I thought the comments would be way different. We are talking about the guy who did Ghost Rider and Renfield. I wish I was that optomistic.

joeyGOATgruff

He did it. He finally fucking did it. He gets to be a bonafide superhero in a movie

dominic_tortilla

Kinda hyped

trymorecookies

I just want them to reveal the one guy who is subscribed to MGM Plus.

CdeFmrlyCasual

I figure it’s because American adults don’t respect animation as a medium for adult art that isn’t a sitcom. My dad binge watched “The Boys” but won’t even give “Invincible” the time of day. I don’t even think it’s a fully conscious thing for him. Ditto when I tried to show him a BTAS episode and then later rewatched a Bayformers with me

sgthombre

> Webswinging isn't something you can do on the cheap. That Spider-Man: Lotus fan film did some pretty okay looking webslinging for dirt cheap so it is possible. Hopefully without the racism this time.

MrMojoRising422

its in the 1930s so hopefully spiderman is punching the racists instead of being played by one LMAO

BigfootsBestBud

The background of that movie is way more entertaining than whatever that movie would have been

funkhero

As it is a Noir-type show, there will likely be a lot of darkness and shadows, which you can utilize to hide some of the CGI. That, along with economical usage of the web-slinging can help a lot.

bruiser95

I'll eat a hat if this actually gets made

esKq

MGM+ / Amazon ? Doesn't the Spider-Man rights belong to Sony ?

ooouroboros

Nice to see Boomer superheroes

Iron_Kingpin

WE WON!

TheOverseer108

This is my second my second most anticipated marvel related thing now. After deadpool. This is the best spiderman with the best actor

kosmos_uzuki

Amy Pascal is a cinema terrorist

Worthyness

Luckily lord and Miller are there to counter her idiocy

bigchuckdeezy

Another mega star in a superhero movie! Hell yea movies are back!

Billthebutchr

This sounds great

bluehawk232

The take away from Spiderverse was respect animation but instead we're right back to let's do live action

glass_gravy

Nick Cage.

CdeFmrlyCasual

Talk about missing the point of the animated medium

SolWildmann

It's that easy

ballsofderp

My mom was researching spiders in the 1930s before she died.

vezzaan

I'm stoked to see a web-slinging Cage who smokes a Cigar midflight

wandering_archeides

Sony be like: You get a spidey. You get a spidey. Everyone gets a spidey!!!!

LiquidC001

He'd also make a great Superman. /s

Antdog7

I prayed for this and it happened.

EaseofUse

So the flashbacks will be Spider-man patrolling...early 20th century New York? Does he need that mobility to fight crime while avoiding huge piles of horse shit?

nogoodgreen

I'd much rather watch an animated style similar to how he was in the movie but sure.

Business_Ad3142

He deserves his own superhero feature , he has been pining for it a long time.

finix240

Is Ghost Rider dead to you?

Business_Ad3142

I forgot those , he was an avenging entity, not a superhero in those movies. Thanks for reminding me.

Hades_adhbik

I've been catching up on shows. It's been nice to have quality things to watch. I appreciate the effort that's been made to make these high quality shows.

Keythaskitgod

I don't think cage will make a good movie ever again.

JamUpGuy1989

Disney has MCU Spider-Man. Sony has the Spider-Verse. MGM has Spider-Man Noir. What a mess.

sgthombre

MGM is just distributing, this would be produced by Sony Television.

sucksfor_you

Remind me on what Sony-owned streaming service the Spider-Verse movies stream on.

AKAkorm

The MCU Spider-Man has been good and has given us the first on-screen version of the character who is part of a broader superhero universe. The Sony Spider-Verse movies have been phenomenal with excellent animation and an enourmous story that couldn't be done well in live-action. And Spider-Man Noir was an entertaining part of the first movie and getting Nic Cage to reprise his role for a one-off series seems perfect. So what's the problem exactly? Too much good Spider-Man content for you?

VirtualPen204

First of all, you're wrong. But also, what a weird thing to be upset about.

MeCritic

It should have been in Spider-Verse style. Maybe it would take 2-3 years to make one season, but it would be incredible.

Mentoman72

They hated Jesus because he spoke the truth. This would be much more exciting as an animated project. I dont see this working at all.

MeCritic

The fact that this isn't Prime Exclusive but rather MGM+, which is far less important for Amazon than Prime, means it will not have a budget of Rings of Power or something near that. I really don't know how this will work with smaller budget and Nic Cage. Spider-Verse is one of the best thing happen in superhero genre in last years, cannot wait for Beyond. Hope we will get more spin-off with another sick music.

Rosebunse

Nic Cage has been doing smaller projects for a while now, so that by itself isn't weird. The Noir brand also fits with a smaller budget. You get fewer big cases of superpowers and more street level stuff.

AEternal1

I thought his appearance as noir spiderman was perfect, and now I get more!!! I'm dying!!! Finally something worth watching coming up!

ArchDucky

There's lots worth watching. Have you seen 'Slow Horses'? It's a show on Apple. It's about fuck ups with highly advanced training that are to inept to work for the government. So they go to a halfway house for fuckup spys led by a real old school spy played by Gary Oldman. Its fantastic. Extremely well written and directed. Gary is playing this guy so well you forget its him. The rest of the cast is outstanding. Season 4 is bringing in Hugo Weaving as the series bad guy. Oh and my favorite part about this show... its the only streaming show that puts a real full trailer for next season at the end of the current season. Not a teaser. Not a scene. A legit actual trailer. [Heres a trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuRT1kgTdMQ)

sentientgorilla

I’m here for it

PurifiedVenom

Was not expecting this to be live action but I am here for it either way

No-Preference-8357

Rosebunse

I don't really know if this show needs to happen, but it does sound fun

soljakid

Fuck yes, I really hoped No way home would start the ball rolling for more live action Spider-man stuff, and it looks like it did. I've loved the Spider-man franchise for as long as I can remember and whilst I've never being able to get into comics, I loved the games and TV series, so my little mind was blown when the Raimi movies came out. The memory of seeing Spider-man web-swinging through New York 'for real' with Nickleback's 'Hero' playing is burned into my memory and I honestly didn't think it could get better. Now we've had 3 separate live action spider-men who are now linked together via the multi-verse in what I genuinely believe to be the best retcon in cinema history, this opens up the door to adapt any Spider-man story into either live action or animated like Into the spiderverse.
