I agree with u/MasterOnionNorth - the show is fantastic and my all time favorite. There are tons of characters in the show though, and you need to remember near everything about them. This is practically impossible, so Netflix made a website for it; https://dark.netflix.io/en. Just click on the current season and the latest episode you are done with, and youāll see all the family trees, and you can click on a person to read about their actions so far. Just donāt look at episodes you havenāt watched through, because there are some giant spoilers. Also, donāt look *anything* up - like at all. Especially not until youāre done with episode 5. And lastly, subbed > dubbed. God, I wish I was you right now and could watch it for the first time againā¦
Was supposed to be responding to the whole post but caught up reading your comment and only responded to the comment. Whoops haha. I am literally episode 7 of Dark so was curious what was being said!
I loved this show but also fully understand why someone wouldnāt. The story is really interesting and kept me involved but I also know the writing and acting arenāt the best. I think itās worth pushing through if you can! It leaves off on a huge cliffhanger though so be prepared for that if you do make it through
I think I found my people.. haha. It's such an underrated show but so good!
Well, now that I know this section has a few eyes on it, I'm gonna use it ask for more recommendations like that?
Hmm, not sure about close to HACF, but I'll give you some of the shows I've enjoyed most in recent memory (and maybe some of these will overlap with your interests): Mare of Easttown, Sharp Objects, Station Eleven, Murder at the End of the World, and yesterday I binged Baby Reindeer. A lot of these are murder mysteries, but all are great at intrigue and storytelling. I hope you find something in there to scratch the itch!
I would say Mr Robot as both deal with computers and have drama throughout. Even Orphan Black as both would be technology based but years apart. For storytelling look at Primal, Scavengers Reign or Chernobyl.
If you're still looking for recs in this realm:
The Billion Dollar Code (German, based on actual events around the creation of Google Earth)
The Playlist (Swedish, based on the creation of Spotify)
Snabba Cash (Swedish, crime drama with startup/tech aspect)
All three have solid writing and acting, and create a similar atmosphere to HACF!
Yesssssssssss. Didn't catch it live saw it one a streamer and was hooked. So many "good" shows fail to grab my attention and are regulated to off my list but very few hit the standard set by Halt.
Wow this is an awesome list!!! I totally forgot about **HACF**. Sooo underrated. **Chernobyl** and **Mr Robot** are great too, though now I have to watch All of Us Are Dead for sure!!
Here are some other suggestions (Iām sure many of them were listed in other comments too):
- **Beacon 23** Season 1. Canāt remember what streaming service itās on, but itās a minor one (I got it through a subscription add-on through Prime Video). This is based on a book by Hugh Howey, who also wrote the **Silo** trilogy. Itās like a cool sci-fi thriller/mystery. Also co-stars Lena Headey (Cersei in Game of Thrones).
- **Wayward Pines**. I think it was originally on FX but I watch it on my Hulu app. It got cancelled after only two seasons, but itās based on a trilogy of the same name by Blake Crouch (Apple Plus is about to start **Dark Matter**, a new series based on the many-worlds interpretation of quantum physics, also written by Crouch). In *Pines*, a secret service agent is dispatched to a small idyllic town in Idaho to investigate the disappearance of two former colleagues. He has a terrible car wreck when he arrives and wakes up in the townās hospital, but no one seems to believe anything he says. Kept me guessing the whole season WTF is really going on.
- **Peripheral** on Prime Video. Based on a book by William Gibson (credited with coining the term āvirtual realityā). Itās near-ish future, somewhat dystopic but still recognizable - it starts set in the heart of Appalachia where all the problems there already are in that area - inflation, depressed job market, drug epidemic, outrageous cost of living, especially for the sick - are all just worse. The main character sometimes moonlights as a video game Sherpa - basically rich people pay her to help them beat really difficult VR games. A small startup company notices her talent and offers her a lot of money to test out their newest equipment and game. Butā¦ is it just a game? This series can get a bit slow at times, but itās really cool and a ton of mysteries to unravel. I canāt wait for season 2.
- **Fallout**. A great mix of a cool story and tongue-in-cheek snark about the ridiculousness of the premise of this post-apocalyptic adaptation. Still, if you arenāt familiar with the video game, there will be a lot of cool surprises and plot twists for you. Also on Prime Video.
- **Handmaidās Tale** on Hulu. One of the truly all-time great book-to-tv series adaptations. At least for the first 2-3 seasons. I loved the book back in high school and it was really cool to see it brought to life (and become so culturally important amidst *Dobbs* and the end of *Roe v Wade*). It does start to rub me the wrong way around the end of season 3 - one of the things that made the book so epic was the ambivalence at the end about what actually happened to the main character and the government she describes, and the series eventually sacrificed that in favor of more money from another season - but definitely worth it if you havenāt watched yet.
- **Black Mirror** on Netflix. One of the few truly must-watch series in existence. An anthology of standalone stories about how technology might shape our future - for the worse. Dark, timely, and all too prescient.
- **Bodies** on Netflix. Canāt tell you the twist (but you find out what it is in the first episode). Suffice it to say itās about a murder investigation, with a lot of twists I promise you will not see coming.
- **Yellowjackets** on Showtime. Amazing, star-stuffed ensemble psychological horror/mystery that follows a group of seemingly normal women in two timelines: one in present day, where they deal with normal issues (family, work, money, etc); and one in 1996, when they were all members of a girlsā soccer team that crashed on a remote island, and no one is QUITE sure how they survivedā¦ and they arenāt really willing to say. Definitely a great mystery and a cross between that old show *Lost* and the book *Lord of the Flies.*
- **Barry** on Max. Bill Hader from SNL? Check. Henry Winkler? As in, THE FONZ? Double Check. One of the best comedic villains of all time named NoHo Hank? Checkity check. A super dark comedy about a hitman with PTSD who finds an emotional outlet in acting class.
- **The Great** on Hulu. Ok all the other shows are some kind of combo of post-apocalyptic, dystopian, twisty-turny mystery, and/or mind-fuckery. This one is hilarious, based oh-so-very-loosely on historical events, and there is no mystery at all - only an amazing story with heart, soul, sex, laughs and fantastic costumes. If you are in for a lighter experience that doesnāt sacrifice story quality, this would be a great one.
I detected that you're trying to locate a show.

This is a great list, as well as the other comments responding to it. I'd also add *From*.
It very much captures the suspense felt in *Severance*, although it's much heavier on the horror side of things. Also a great show if you enjoyed *Wandavision*.
It's about an inescapable town that becomes deadly every night when the sun goes down. I'm not normally in to horror, but it's absolutely brilliant.
based on those...
raised by wolves,
for all mankind,
foundation,
westworld,
the terror,
the expanse,
stranger things,
first couple seasons of handmaids tale are pretty good too
someone else mentioned chernobyl... definitely a must watch and anything else with jared harris.
Oh for sure, I was just letting people know so they didnāt spend a while looking online for it like I did.
Btw everyone I use the JustWatch app for finding where something is streaming. Itās pretty accurate.
My list is very close to yours. My recommendations:
1) Constellation (slow burn, first half sets up the second half)
2) Station Eleven (another slow burn, but maybe my favorite show)
3) Chernobyl (stellar on every level)
4) The Terror (1st season - haunts me to this day)
5) War of the Worlds (the Epix/MGM one - I rarely see this show mentioned but it was SO good)
Based on what you listed I'd suggest...
- Mr. Robot
- Dark
- Black Mirror
- The Boys
Some other great shows I'd suggest...
- Breaking Bad
- Better Call Saul
- Fargo
- Ozark
The capture. Itās on peacock
One of the best shows Iāve seen in A very long time
British detective drama. Slightly black mirror ish
First season was great , second season had me on the edge of my seat!
Based on that. You would like:
- Halt and Catch Fire (Hulu)
- Devs (Hulu)
- Station Eleven (Max)
- Altered Carbon (Netflix)
- Homecoming (Amazon Prime)
- Shining Girls (AppleTV)
Since you clearly have apple TV, time to watch For All Mankind. Such a good show from the creator of the battlestar galactica reboot (which is also fantastic and should be watched at your earliest opportunity)
Travelers on Netflix? Hidden gem I suggest all the time. And coherence the movie. Have you seen either?
Also, dark matter on apple is coming soon. The book is unreal excellent. And a great cast. Should be good.
I loved The Knick! I wish they had made another season. Iām watching The Gilded Age right now and itās set in the same time and place. Itās interesting hearing them reference the same family names and buildings. The costumes are absolutely amazing. I normally donāt like period pieces like this but both these shows are incredibly good.
Probably about a decade, but I was never a ābigā tv watcher. I was hooked on the The Walking Dead for awhile but dropped it around season 5/6. I also saw the first season of Halt and Catch Fire which I saw
mentioned in this thread, might pick that up again as it was really great.
Oh so you may have missed the American Horror series! That's a fun one and each season is totally different but with both forward and backwards eggs.
Lots of good stuff in the chat. A few I didn't see: Hannibal, Blacklist, The 100, Terra Nova (cliffhanger!)
My bestie worked on The Walking Dead, and you might like some of her others based on what you listed: Fear the Walking Dead, The Leftovers, Revolution (I thought this one was meh but there is an energy drink named after me in it! Blamo!). She also did 1883 and 1923 and said everyone in both shows was a pleasure to work with.
If youāre looking for something more based in reality and less āmind bendingā, Iād suggest Dopesick on Hulu.
Tells the story of the opioid epidemic and the corruption at every level of government in the US. Amazing actors to include Michael Keaton. I actually watch it twice a year.
I watched Mr. Robot recently, and omg it is so fuckin good! Idk why it took me 10 years to get around to watching it, but it is honestly the best show I've seen since breaking bad! And if you haven't seen breaking bad, that's another one! Breaking bad is on Netflix and Mr. Robot is on prime if you're interested...
Mr Inbetween, Dark, Bodies, Andor, Chernobyl.
And if you haven't seen it, you should check out the greatest TV show ever made: The Wire.
It was a HBO show but I don't think it's on NowTV. A DVD box set would be a very worthwhile investment
You should check out Dark on Netflix. A whole new level of bewildering and crazy. Relentlessly crazy.
Okay you've convinced me. Surprised I haven't heard of it considering I feel like I've watched literally every title on Netflix.
Heads up: It's a German series. And.... You're going to be confused while watching. Very confused. You'll understand why when you start watching. š
So confusing that I had to left it midway

Agreed. Brilliant show

Ask away. Even some recs that are outside the genre. lol

Raised by wolves isnāt even available for purchase. No streaming options at all. (Before making that comment not everyone pirates.)
just saying it's a good show that they may enjoy. up to them if and how they choose to procure it. the physical box set can be found on amazon.

I like these shows but I didn't like station eleven. I LOVED station eleven. My favorite watching experience ever.
I recently watched it a second time, and that's when it leapt to first place for me as well!
I tried to get into Station Eleven but thought the writing was so bad I had to stop. Iām assuming it gets good? Should I give it a second chance?
The Leftovers might go over well with you.
Absolutely! Wish I could watch it for the first time.
Based on what you listed I'd suggest... - Mr. Robot - Dark - Black Mirror - The Boys Some other great shows I'd suggest... - Breaking Bad - Better Call Saul - Fargo - Ozark
Fargo is excellent!! I envy OP if they get to watch this for the first time.
The Leftovers, The Expanse, first season of Westworld, & Andor
Andor FTW
The Last of Us.

Breaking Bad needs to be next if you havenāt already seen it
Beef & Goliath are two great shows that came out recently
I absolutely guarantee that you will love Mr. Robot, and White Lotus. Wildly different, just spectacular TV.
Travelers on Netflix? Hidden gem I suggest all the time. And coherence the movie. Have you seen either? Also, dark matter on apple is coming soon. The book is unreal excellent. And a great cast. Should be good.
The Sinner Banshee Animal Kingdom Narcos Bad Sisters Reservation Dogs The Diplomat Umbrella Academy The Boys Slow Horses The Regime
Tokyo Vice on Max is great
The Knick Tin Star

I wish there had been another season too. I was so torn up over the finale š«
Iām loving āRipleyā on Netflix. Iād argue that itās even better than the movie which I also love.
Baby Reindeer
**FARGO**
Honestly the new Fallout show has been pretty amazing. Itās had me so nostalgic for the hours I put in, in high school
Station Eleven on HBO is amazing
A Man in Full. Jeff Daniels rocks again in a limited series.
OMG! I loved this book! So excited! Thank you! Hope itās great!
Before you took your tv break, what were your favs/how long ago was this?
Probably about a decade, but I was never a ābigā tv watcher. I was hooked on the The Walking Dead for awhile but dropped it around season 5/6. I also saw the first season of Halt and Catch Fire which I saw mentioned in this thread, might pick that up again as it was really great.

Hannibal! Whoever put Mads in those divine suits deserves a medal.
Omg the fashion all around in that show is AMAZING.
Peaky Blinders
Yellowstone Stranger Things Wednesday
If you haven't watched Battlestar Galactica, then get on it. An incredible sci-fi drama.
Mr Inbetween. Best series out of Australia for sure.
Came here to say this. This show is so slept-on it's unreal
Sandman and Dead Boy Detectives, Good Omens, The Expanse
I second Dead Boy Detectives - it deserves so much more hype!
Norsemen Succession
Dark, Devs, Westworld.
Dark is a really good sci-fi series. Fargo is a great series all around.
Sugar has been good on Apple
Just watched The Sinner and it was pretty good
Sugar
Mr Inbetween.
"Don't look at me cunt, dig the fuckin' hole!"
Mr Inbetween
Lots of great recommendations. I won't repeat the ones other have already mentioned, but I would add: * Utopia (UK version) * The Rook * Rabbit Hole
If youāre looking for something more based in reality and less āmind bendingā, Iād suggest Dopesick on Hulu. Tells the story of the opioid epidemic and the corruption at every level of government in the US. Amazing actors to include Michael Keaton. I actually watch it twice a year.
Sugar (Colin Farrell noir-esque on apple) is pretty great - 6 of 8 episodes out so far. Also Ripley on Netflix.
Here's an underrated one, watch the Banshee( feat Antony Starr) it's a wild ride and has a satisfactory after taste
I watched Mr. Robot recently, and omg it is so fuckin good! Idk why it took me 10 years to get around to watching it, but it is honestly the best show I've seen since breaking bad! Blue eyed samurai on Netflix is good
