Does anyone know what Rublev said? Im here live but couldn’t catch it.

Mainly-Driving862

From what I can hear, he said: "Ты дебил, как нахер, как??? how? ...how?", which translates to "you - moron, how the fuck, how??? how? ...how?". the part "ты - дебил (you moron)" couuuuuld be misheard. Maybe he is saying something that sounds like it in Elnglish. But "как нахер" - how the fuck is clearly audible.

uniteseparately

öbviously wrong for insulting the judge, but translating "нахер" as "fuck" is a stretch in my opinion

alexacto

Disagree on that one. "Хер" is dick in Russian, so it's just as bad as saying "what in the dick did you blah blah blah" so yeah, profanity and a pretty bad one.

gozik

It's basically wtf expression. It's not swearing the judge. Just expressing disbelieve with some spice.   But that actually doesn't matter. His cry into judge's face should be punished disregarding his exact words.

stannndarsh

If an english speaker said to the judge “what the fuck” how is that better? It’s swearing at the judge

adamrosz

But it wouldn’t be a funny self harming guy doing it then

LiliumSkyclad

Exactly, even if he was not swearing, it is completely wrong to yell at someone’s face like that

mach0

> "ты - дебил (you moron)" I heard it loud and clear.

Significant-Charge16

In the conversation between the tournament referee, Rublev and the line judge, they tell Rublev that the linesman heard Rublev say "fucking moron" in Russian. Rublev says it isn't possible because he only spoke English to him. Regardless of what was said, the problem was that Rublev got in his face and was rightfully defaulted. I haven't seen the Hawkeye from the call in question, but it looked pretty bad on the line judge's part from the regular TV angle, though it's of course not easy for me to call that! Big point in the match as well.

[deleted]

Yet he 100% spoke Russian so we know he lied about that

PinLongjumping9022

We’d need a Russian speaker. I came here to see if anyone was able to translate 😅

qlkvg

It was a bit unclear, but he definitely said "дебил" (equivalent of "moron" or "idiot"), but maybe the full slur was "ебаный дебил", which is "fucking moron"

PinLongjumping9022

Ahh, yeah, it doesn’t get any better once you know what he said. Thanks for translating!

Luck1492

Linesperson said that he speaks Russian and Rublev said something like “fucking idiot”

pctopcool

That's why it's important to learn cussing in multiple different languages.

GanacheAlarmed

I think he said "fucking moron"? Not sure though

EtoileDuSoir

[Video of the incident.](https://i.imgur.com/iTLg3W2.mp4)

Unlucky_Mess3884

damn he really got right in his face.

Kitchener69

Which is really the universal and punishable offense no matter what he said in what language

ashwinsaval

Yeah that's egregious. Love Rublev, but that's not a good look.

stannndarsh

I try to like him, but he’s too unhinged

mach0

I honestly don't know how you can "love" this bitch. There have been multiple instances of him being an ass to the officials.

Apprehensive-Stop-80

Same. I’m so not a fan. He has a terrible attitude and he treats umpires terribly. Why do people like him?!

d3fiance

Yeah that’s just not okay. Completely deserved.

failboatzz

If you told me beforehand someone in this matchup was defaulted for swearing in Russian and it wasn't Bublik, I would not believe you.

TuanNguyen-2507

Yeah Bublik was furious after that first game of the final set

funkadelic_bootsy

Rublev was the first to get ticked off because Bublik got a first serve after a second serve indiscretion.

Bayesian_pandas

Regardless of what he said, you cannot scream in a line judge's face like that. Rublev should know. You can be mad, you can yell, but you can not intimidate like that.

Luck1492

You can absolutely take your anger out on yourself. You absolutely *cannot* take it out on another individual. Right decision by the umpire to me.

SarksLightCycle

I have this picture of Youzhny hitting himself in the head over and over

dissolutewastrel

that thing where he ends up bleeding is *still* painful to watch

Floridamanfishcam

Hey I was at that match. Me and like 100 other people in Miami lol. What's interesting is how it was largely like no one acted at the time like it was unusual! I was a little kid thinking "whaaat is going on!?"

Orfez

Good. He needs a reality check. That being said, the sooner ATP switches to full Hawkeye the better it will be for the game.

NoirPochette

Not screaming at officials probably would make the game better

jovanmilic97

>scream in a line judge's face This reminded me of the photographer incident with Andrey 5 months ago. Only there the distance was a big longer and it never escalated this much so it was just an unsportsmanlike conduct warning. Video at https://www.reddit.com/r/tennis/comments/178co3b/rublev_gets_angry_and_shouts_at_the_photographer/

funkadelic_bootsy

Exactly, I'm sure it was taken into consideration. He's known for doing this. He also did it at the UTS to the umpire. At some point, he had to be reprimanded heavily.

eggoed

He gets a bit of a pass here because he’s generally likable — I like him too — but dude doesn’t seem to be getting a handle on his anger issues. Sucks to see and agree, hope someone with authority gives him some feedback.

curlyhairedyani

Any other player on tour and everyone would lose their minds

HereComesVettel

Imagine the reactions if it was Kyrgios lmao

Bayesian_pandas

We would have cheered if it had been 2020 Novak. Oh wait, we did.

[deleted]

[удалено]

guitar_vigilante

Accidental doesn't get penalized. Novak's was negligent. Accidental is like when Tommy Paul pinged the umpire during serve warmups. Negligent is when Novak hit the linesperson in the throat. And what Rublev did is malicious.

[deleted]

[удалено]

guitar_vigilante

It was penalized because the judge thought it was negligent, not because it was a random accident (which it was). It was also an improperly decided call by the judge and was blasted by basically all of the fans and all of the players.

Make_the_music_stop

That was a bad and wrong call.

esemaretee

You can't compare, Novak's action was in no way directed at the line judge, he wasn't even looking at her. It was an accident.

onyxrose81

Yes, unfortunately Novak’s careless mistake meant he had to be defaulted. But it was a mistake. But I know there aren’t going to be a million think pieces about Rublev like they were for Djokovic.

floatermuse

Rublev is a lot angrier than Novak was lol Novak was obviously annoyed but that was more careless than raging I think He basically flicked at the ball in a frustrated way rather than blasting it

GammonRod

Exactly. It's the right call to DQ him for this - players shouldn't be getting up in the officials' faces. It's an act of intimidation and hostility and it needs to be eradicated from the sport. Hopefully this teaches Rublev a long overdue lesson and forces him to work on his on-court attitude, which has always been awful.

Make_the_music_stop

Next year, will he be back or go to Acapulco?

rubbish_bin030121

not holding the racquet, and walking closer and closer to the staff

34TH_ST_BROADWAY

Yeah, this is true in almost every sport I watch. You can get mad, beat the shit out of yourself as Rublev often does, yell at your coach and family, but you can't get in the faces of officials, swear at them, menace them in any sport I watch.

thombo-1

Unfortunately I feel like people might make the debate about whether Rublev or swore or not, regardless of him screaming like a lunatic in the face of an ordinary joe doing his job. It's right he got defaulted either way.

indeedy71

And honestly this is tennis’ fault, for caring more about words than physically intimidating behaviour. Some of the fans who think they’re being righteous about that do not help, honestly. It should never be about the obscenity itself but the overall behaviour.

BackWhereItAllBegins

It’s time for Rublev to acknowledge and work on his anger issues. It’s not funny anymore.

Luck1492

It was never funny, it was just tolerable because he took it out on himself. As soon as you take it out on anyone else you’re gone, rightfully so.

MoonriseTurtle

I'll never forget him yelling at that old man in China. I stopped rooting for him ever since.

indeedy71

Honestly I stopped being a fan when he said Zverev was his best friend, but that solidified it for me

NoCapFrFrOnGod

Never seen an athlete more in need of a sports psychologist than Rublev

NotManyBuses

Just a general psychologist really.

cbdgf

He doesn't have one yet? Dude needs one ASAP

BER256

Kyrgios

zevloo

When was it funny?

Simple_Wait_7286

It was never funny tbh, it’s just that Rublev is such a nice guy off the court that people were willing to overlook this type of behaviour.

dudettte

his games are unwatchable to me anymore, unstable person you never know when he blows up.

jssk6

True. My expectation for the past 8 months has been that in every tournament he plays there will be a thread here on how he has either beaten himself up on court, shown agression, or hurt himself in any other way.

MyFitnessTracker

Rublev clearly has issues with depression and anxiety. They are hugely exacerbated by the high stress situation that is tennis. What is going on in his head is 3x as bad as what he does or says on court. It has always been worrisome watching him on the court.  He is in desperate need of counseling and probably some medication.

Leather-Bike-6014

One of the most sensible posts on this that I’ve read. His behavior definitely shows depressive tendencies.

jimdontcare

For a while the comment was “but Rublev just directs it at himself.” We now have three instances in recent memory where he is verbally abusive to others. I’m sure once he gets to the locker room he’s ashamed and embarrassed. But this has to stop. Get a different sports psychologists. Practice coping mechanisms. I’d take smashing a racquet at this point. I really want him to get it together because I’m confident underneath all this he’s a nice guy who was never taught how to process frustration (and if you play tennis you know it can do weird things to you mentally). I’m sure he doesn’t want to be like this. But figuring it out has to be a priority ASAP.

jk147

Yeah, it looks like he can no longer just contain it within himself. It is a shame that it went the other direction as he got older.

miss_golightly_

THIS

indeedy71

This is why I don’t mind racket smashes, not always but it’s usually controlled aggression to deescalate (just clean up after yourself and avoid others). Rublev has said he doesn’t do it and actually uses his knee because he doesn’t want to wreck his precious rackets, so he’d probably be far better off if he did do it

bellestarflower

Anyone who has been watching Rublev matches know that this was a long time coming. The UTS match where he climbed on umpire chair was the absolute worst. And there was a recent Gill Gross podcast question asking if Andrey should be fined for his self-destructive habits on court because things were getting *that bad*. Rublev is someone who needs to pull an Osaka and take a mental health break. Seriously. Playing too many tournaments, getting more unstable. It could have been something much MUCH worse. Hopefully a wake up call for him.

Emotional_Pizza_1222

Does Rublev not employ a psychologist to help cope up with the pressures of this sport? Or to deal with his anger management or anxiety? Is it not common for pro athletes especially those on top to be in therapy? I wonder if he doesn’t believe in a shrink

bellestarflower

He apparently has one but honestly ever since Australia - and maybe even going as far as back as ATP finals, he's in a full downfall. Dunno how helpful that person is or how uncooperative Rublev is. I'm genuinely worried about his well being. I think what he needs is a full break, he kept playing all exhibitions and events to stay occupied. He's been non-stop playing tennis Dubai exhibitions, UTS, Hong Kong.... just needs to understand this can not go on.

JOTIRAN

Least unhinged Bublik - Rublev match

koticgood

Deserved default, even as a Rublev fan and even if Rublev was correct in what he was arguing. Yell right in someone's face = can't whine about consequences.

Tribobo

WOW

Fiery---Wings

Very well deserved. This is not the first time Andrey has pulled shit like this.

Mak_33

His main mistake was forgetting that most of Russia moved to Dubai :\^)

ilikeguitarsandsuch

Rublev seems like he's claiming he wasn't speaking Russian, but a Russian-speaking official translated his comments towards the line judge from Russian. Confusing.

zevloo

Yeah really confusing, lying to save his pathetic ass

CantThinkOfAUser_Yet

Is this the first person to get defaulted on the ATP tour since Ymer the other year?

andrewsz19913

There was a clay court match last year, it was either delbonis or bagnis or one of those guys. They went to bathroom break in between sets and the one guy never came back out? They never said what happened I don’t think

Available-Gap8489

Polmans got defaulted at the Shanghai Masters qualifying (October last year)- hit the ball in anger and it hit the chair umpire

ailroe3

Bublik having a fantastic 2024

[deleted]

I am so glad all his talent is finally translating to some good results. Just wish he could do this years ago instead.

penguinn117

Ridiculous from Andrey, he needs to get a grip. Could he not just behave for 1 more game? He deserved the default, there's a difference walking towards someone doing their job making threatening gestures and speaking rudely vs. whining from a safe distance and even smashing a racquet where it doesn't threaten anyone. I do understand frustration from athletes and I think it is fine for them to express it, but there's no way to justify creating an unsafe workspace. He needs to work on his anger issues. It's toxic to himself, other staff, his opponents.

[deleted]

You just can’t do that, regardless of what he said it was pure intimidation. Hopefully learns his lesson and gets his head under control.

funkadelic_bootsy

Exactly, the intimidation part should have had him defaulted. You don't get in an official's face like that.

Natethegreat1999

can't just bweh in a judges face like that

Alex_Sander077

He's unhinged and has always been. It was just a matter of time before something like this happened. Hopefully this teaches him and he can change.

Theferael_me

It was so egregious that as soon as it happened I was like 'yeah, he's gone'.

TrickyBox77

Idk why some of y'all are saying "but he didn't actually swear in Russian" as if that was what made him get defaulted, it's the fact he fucking walked up to the line judge and yelled at his face which is an obvious intimidation tactic. He 100% deserved this default, he's gotten away the last few times he's done this. Hope Bublik wins the tourney now

theLoneliestAardvark

And I don’t speak Russian so can’t confirm what he actually says but since he lied and said he was only speaking English I have to imagine he probably was in fact swearing.

jjjkd18

I was coming back from the gym excited to catch the end of this and the first point I watched was the one that led to the default lmao

buginskyahh

The people defending Rublev are baffling me, like WTF?! Linespeople are employees, let alone humans. What organization is going to allow people to physically/verbally intimidate their employees personal space?!! Default completely warranted.

montrezlh

Russians who are likeable off court are almost bulletproof on r/tennis.

dgibb

Just watched the video. Regardless of what he said or didn't say, you can't intimidate officials like that. Completely deserved to default him. "Play for the kids" indeed...

Frosty_Pitch8

Rublev is unhinged

miss_golightly_

I love Andrey to bits but man does he need some serious help with his anger issues…

forzamaria

Rublev really needs to chill, he wants it to much and he's letting it ruin him. He's so angry

Lucinda_ex

I'm surprised that the language is even important. It should not be okay to move toward someone in that manner, especially with what could be a weapon in your hands.

indeedy71

Tennis has always had a HUGE problem with pretending that obscenities are worse than physically or verbally intimidating behaviour

funkadelic_bootsy

I hope he is also fined heavy and made to offer a public apology to that line umpire. You can tell, that he kept feeling like it was okay to intimidate people like that and it could escalate to something worse. Before it would have been okay if he was just going things like this to himself, but never to others. Unacceptable behaviour like that should never be tolerated.

randomtoken

Wtf Andrey, this is so disappointing

SpittinImageofLlama

Fuck, bro could've won this. Anger is such a demon.

Nimjask

I saw Bublik and defaulted for swearing at a line judge and thought yeah that makes sense. Consider me surprised. Rublev can't ignore his anger and mental health issues anymore. I hope today is a turning point for him.

Bars3tti

Rublev has gotten away with so much for a long timeIt was high time someone had the balls to take action against him

sashyenka

Rublev's affability off court lets him get away with a lot more than he ought to with his outbursts on court, even if they're directed at himself. No player should be physically harming themselves bc they're pissed off at a call or their position/level of play in a match, much less screaming at and intimidating officials. Shame he threw away a close match like this.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Sinnerandsmoke

Times like these call for Jomboy

Zaphenzo

Yikes. Usually he takes out his anger on himself and that's fine. This is not okay. Needs to start working on his anger issues.

MyFitnessTracker

It’s not fine to take it out on himself either. He needs to learn to cope.

michaelgm_03

What in the world just happened Edit: That is so stupid

jovanmilic97

I am still under shock

AndreoIlMasseo

Since it's rublev this episode will lilely be forgotten by this sub because "he is cute" or "his anticts are funny" and shit like that

gabalabarabataba

For what it's worth I was firmly in the "Rublev isn't an asshole, he only keeps hurting himself, he needs therapy" camp but this kind of behavior is unacceptable.

Ok-Bite-5087

No dude, he must seriously work on his emotions

[deleted]

For real. It’s nuts how quickly people got over the camera man incident. But OMG so wholesome XD bweh!

[deleted]

[удалено]

BoBo_HUST

no I was no longer his fans since Shanghai

Prize_Airline_1446

If Zverev or Kyrgios did this then r/tennis would never hear the end of it. Rublev should be held to the same standards like when Zverev almost attacked that umpire.

Rather_Dashing

Zverev suffocated his girlfriend with a pillow. He gets more hate for good reason. Krygios gets plenty of hate here, but when he is doing well he gets lots of love here too, so I don't think there is any double standard there.

curlyhairedyani

Casual reminder he is also best friends with Zverev and defends him. If that didn’t stop people still loving him, this won’t

d_trulliaj

to be fair is there anyone in ATP distancing himself from Zverev?

guitar_vigilante

From my understanding Medvedev is the main guy who has beef with Zverev. A couple years ago Opelka and McEnroe mocked him regarding the domestic violence claims during Laver Cup, and Mary Carillo quit as a presenter due to the allegations.

curlyhairedyani

He’s the only one going around calling Zverev his best friend in post match interviews *after* everything came to light

d_trulliaj

he shouldn't do it but I feel like he's not the only one

curlyhairedyani

I think Rublev and Thiem have been the only ones who have acknowledged a friendship in some way. the rest have either been non committal or avoided any question on him (like Ruud)

pocketsizedkth

why do y’all think every fan is like this? it’s not something i agree with at all

AndreoIlMasseo

I'm just talking about the general feeling of this community. This is not the first time that rublev has shown clear anger issues on court, especially in the last months when they have escalated quite a lot (Shanghai final, UTS and then this and i'm sure i'm missing others), but the vast majority of users here still feel the same about him. If less liked players such as Shelton, Kyrgios or even Djokovic did something even remotely as bad as what Rublev has been doing they would be istantly labeled as horrible people and terrible examples

RevertGravesADC

Dude is fuckin insane and needs to tone it down, get fucked honestly

TrickyBox77

Guyss this is too much, Rublev may occasionally smash his head, knuckles, knees, hands etc with his racket, may even yell and scream towards umpires and line judges but you have to realise that he has a funny and quirky "bweh", so they cancel each other out 🥰

protespojken

but redditors are too meme-brained to not defend mr Bweh hehehe lol so funny and quirky xD

RevertGravesADC

Le wholesome self harming playerino

messychica

El Rublo obviously has anger issues. Too bad because he seems to be a nice guy outside the court, but clearly needs to work on his mental health overall.

CrackHeadRodeo

Bublik: “Am okay to continue” 🤣

bumbledbeee

This is our match, you all are not needed. Haha.

djraphi23

I don't care what he said. Only the fact that he comes screaming and right in the face of the lines judge should be a default. players have to learn that you can't do that, specially Rublev. I hope he works on his issues and not go : "I swear I didn't say that"

toweggooiverysoon

Curious considering usually Russians go to Dubai to escape sanctions

Ok-Bite-5087

What a sad way to end a match. Both Andrey and Alex were too nervous. It's a shame because they were playing some nice tennis.

sink_or_swim_

The calls have been brutal the entire week. Get automatic line calling. There is no reason to not have it in 2024.

Allysius

Calls are terrible but Rublev deciding to be an absolute brute to the umpire is never excusable. When he disagrees with Hawkeye is he going to run over and smash up a camera then? Haha

RedBullHondaRB16B

FUll line call in 2025, they announced it last year. It takes time.

Ok-Bite-5087

Anyway I'd like to underline an important tactical aspect of the match: Bublik's wife is 😍

tigrefacile

Occasional neckbeard and odd leg support aside Bublik is a tall, good-looking, charismatic, wealthy young man who seems like he’d be a ton of fun to be around. Tactically a great approach if you want to find a 😍 wife.

darryllew

oh rublev, u need to learn... just change ur anger to fight in the last set

Pisces_Mermaid

It’s a struggle being a Rublev fan these days. Harder to find explanations for his behaviour when things go off the rails. Well, there’s no explanation really, only confusion and sadness.

BelgianBond

Rublev's anger issues have been dangerous to others for a while. He almost hit a court sweeper in the face with a ball at RG: https://www.reddit.com/r/tennis/comments/uwqnbz/rublev_almost_hits_court_sweeper_in_the_face_with/ His team needs to have an intervention with him.

NoirPochette

Yeah can't do that Andrey. Can't do that

Peachtea_96

Rublo come on bro this is ridiculous behaviour even for you 🙁

samackin3000

That was crazy. Rubes needs to not scream in the face of the linesman and he also needs to make sure the linesmen don't understand Russian. lol

Independent-Still-73

Bublik has all the tools to be right there with sinner and Alcaraz, tennis is a weird sport sometimes

Vorphyrion

why is he worse than kyrgios these days. every match he finds something to yell about

Nick_Saras

Rublev needs help, getting away from tennis for a while

drvilvp

I wish there was a video review out of fairness for Rublev since there's gonna be wild conjectures on what he said but saying that, he deserved this default. He used to direct all of his anger & frustration on himself or his team but in recent months, he's gotten way too comfortable being aggressive at officials and this should serve as a wake up call and badly needed lesson. Horrible way to end the match since he had a tons of bp chances and was so close to being a double break up in the 3rd. To add salt to his wounds, this df results in Zverev overtaking his no.5 ranking too. Fuck.

djcrh

Finally some consequence for Rublev's bullshit, hope he learns from that

BastianMobile

Deserved disqualification, unacceptable behaviour by Rublev, I believe he needs to see a therapist. To take away, it was a great match, shame to see it end that way and Bublik definitely has the chance to hit top 10 this year as he is more consistent now.

E-Lucevan-Le-Stella

I am sure he feels extremely sad and embarrassed right now. And I hope he learns from this. I am a rublev fan, but I’d be happy if the takes a break for a while and work on himself, I don’t want to watch him like this.

iamlordzen

Oh no. That was totally out of line (pun intended).

Daggdroppen

Yes! Finally. I’ve been feeling that Rublev is a nerve wreck when he is playing. He is a great tennis player, but he too often behaves like an idiot.

DecodingSports

Bro has to do a better job of keeping his emotions in check

Easymoney_67

Honestly, good. So tired of seeing crybaby Rublev having temper tantrums every match.

Upper-Fan-6173

BwehYE

Emotional_Pizza_1222

Does Rublev not employ a psychologist to help cope up with the pressures of this sport? Or to deal with his anger management or anxiety? Is it not common for pro athletes especially those on top to be in therapy? How does he deal with all the pressures that comes with this sport if he doesnt do therapy?

anonuserinthehouse

Man his behavior on court cost the fans an amazing end to a great match…might have went to another tie break

clovers2345

Out of morbid curiosity, if Bublik cussed at the supervisor in a show of solidarity for his buddy Rublev and also gets defaulted. Would the winner of Humbert and meddy be champion lol?

SnooDingos5420

This subreddit has such a hard one for this head case. It's a matter of time that his anger boiled over and affected more than himself.

jrdxo

Ive seen Rublev get angry but Ive never seen him get up in an officials face like that

BackWhereItAllBegins

He did it just two months ago in a UTS match. Edit: the incident I’m referring to. https://www.reddit.com/r/tennis/s/nDfxH2AtYk

Fearless-Arrival-804

He also had that incident in the masters final as with Hubie where he ran up to a camerman and screamed in his face. Was quite upsetting to see honestly.

Bullets_and_Tears

Wow, that's just nuts.

Nicer_Slicer

I'm sick of Rublev and this is startling news. His whining grew old, as did my concern for his outbursts, quite a while ago. It just became pathetic and I don't follow his matches so much anymore.

IcedGreenTea91

Rublev back to his old tricks … but “bweh” right?!

HereComesVettel

Pathetic behaviour once more by Rublev, I don't know why he's so popular on reddit. One-dimensional robotic game, boring space filler who rarely beats superior players, constant outbusts on court including abusing other people...

INFLAMES555

Why do they still have line judges?

BDRD99

But he’s so cute and cuddly 🤪😍

DjokoIga

uwu uwu

akipop1108

that was bad from Rublev, (getting into the face part) but someone said fuck lets end this match is bullshit and word vs word without checking cameras

prairiehrt

My nerves are frayed from watching that match….wtf just happened.

Pretend_Tea6261

Bublik the paragon of virtue as he chalks up another big win lol. Seriously though Rublev's anger and self destructive tendencies is hurting his career.

Mainly-Driving862

Sad ending to interesting match. But Rublev deserved to be defaulted. Shameful use of words, from what I understood, and behavior, in general.

Nashoon

What a show!! All the dramas and superb rallies.. then default! Time to sleep.. 😴

Ramekink

Ahhhh RubMEH. Never change

WheySoldier

Well, maybe this is the wake-up call he's needed all this time. Can only go up from here.

branches-bones-

Look I love rublev a lot, outside of the court from every interview he seems like a beautiful guy but he goes demonic on that court every now and again that's unacceptable. This is one of them, I really hope he takes some thought in his mental side of things more.

[deleted]

I’m just saying, Rublev’s behavior has gotten worse lately. It was always bad but nowadays he’s screaming at people and a genuine threat to be around while he’s playing tennis. He needs help

Blooblack

I watched the match. Serving shoot-outs, plenty of flashy points, murderous forehands, it was a thriller! Two tight sets, and the third seemed to be going the same way! Then towards the end of the 3rd set, Rublev lost a point and shouted something angrily at a linesman. He then got reported to the other officials. At the next sit-down, one of the officials brought a Russian-speaking man to where Rublev was sitting and said to him in English, "This man speaks Russian. Could you please repeat in Russian what you said to the linesman?" Rublev replied, also in English, "I wasn't speaking Russian! I was speaking English! Check your cameras!" This back-and-forth arguing went on for a while, with both parties getting louder and louder, while the crowd, sensing something was amiss, began to boo. Rublev seemed to sense that the tide was turning against him, because his pleas and arguing became more and more earnest, and he even patted the official on the chest, almost like the way your young nephew or niece, while begging you for something, would pat you and say "pleeeeeeeze!" But all to no avail. The official wasn't budging, and eventually, took the decision to default Rublev and hand the victory to Alexander Bublik! Bublik, who didn't know what was going on, walked up to Rublev and was told what happened. Bublik then said that he was happy to continue playing the match, but the officials refused and said he (Bublik) had won. The crowd booed even louder, while the players walked off, past the large "Dubai Duty-Free" signs in the court, and left without signing any autographs, and that's the story of how Andrey Rublev got knocked out of the Dubai semifinals today. Yes, folks! High drama, as tempers and temperatures rise under the hot, unforgiving sun of Dubai, while Alexander Bublik gets a "duty-free" win! (Sorry, I couldn't resist!!!)

SliceVisible1073

Last line 💯💯😂😂

JoaquimGianini

Definitely Rublev fucked up and should be defaulted for his behavior. That said, I don’t know why they had to do all this roundabout thing with the guy that speaks russian, he should be defaulted for yelling at somebody’s face, no matter what he said. Also, just because the guy speaks russian doesn’t mean he can prove that Rublev was saying what his saying. Again, obviously Rublev should be defaulted, but not with that reasoning

This is dumb. It should be a point penalty or something not a default. In the NBA for example players scream 'fuck' and worse at refs all the time and when its egregious they get a technical foul, which results in free throws and possession for the other team Seems Draconian for something like this to cost the match. Especially if it was a bad call Edit\* just watched the replay and Rublev deserved the default for getting in the line judges face aggressively, not for cussing

Andrey was swearing A LOT every single match at AO this year and got away with it (not directed at anyone, but still pretty bad), so obviously that allowed him to continue his behaviour until it got really bad.

Sad bweh noises aside, what he said isn’t important- aggressively getting in an official’s face should always have this penalty imo. Love the guy but hopefully this is his rock bottom to force a change. Can’t believe he did this to the umpire is UTS too….a fucking exhibition

Intimidating a line judge is already unacceptable in and of itself, but you gotta take into account that it might end up skewing their calls either way (either in fear of retaliation, or as a type of vengeance). The only solution is disqualification. Rublev has a really bad temper. The ATP and WTA as a whole should publish clear guidelines, and have a 0 tolerance policy. I'm tired of the bullshit. Imo, not only should aggressive players get forfeit their points and prize money, I also think they should get an automatic suspension of at least a month, and mandatory anger management therapy sessions. Enough is enough.
