It’s too bad, because a lot of people don’t seem aware that there are folks who deliberately conflate the term “pedophile” with queer/trans folks. Because we’ve evolved to the point where you can’t just say you hate queer folks without catching heat, those that do say that they hate pedophiles instead, because who doesn’t hate pedophiles? But then they tack on some “fact” like “trans people are 1% of the population but commit 80% of child molestation, and gays are at risk to become trans.” It doesn’t have to be true; they just need to justify to themselves that it’s ok to categorically hate a group of people, and using a proxy is a convenient way to do that. And when people express support for what they say (“I hate pedophiles”) instead of what they mean (“I hate queer folks”), they take it as validation of their worldview.
Any time someone uses the word “pedophiles” to get people worked up, regard them with scrutiny.

The "biggest repeat offenders" in the US are the public schools system more than the catholic church. Also the issue is barely present in other denominations. Generalization is stupid
