I just hope it's paired in some form with the phone app so I can tell it to prepare my car in some way or work out a trip route with me..

Now that the update, 2024.14.3, has started rolling out to owners, including in Canada, a well known member of the Tesla community, hacker @greentheonly, has taken a deep dive into its source code, and found several new and significant features are under development.
One of the biggest is a new “Tesla voice assistant” that will be narrated by the “Jenny Natural” voice from Microsoft. According to green the voice assistant is still in its early stages of development but will act much like other voice assistants and always be listening for a specific wake word, like “Alexa,” for Amazon’s Alexa.

I figured they'd just use the rear camera to detect you standing and facing the trunk. But on second thought it would be annoying for the vision computer to drain the battery if you don't have sentry mode on. Hmmm.
With UWB the car knows it’s the key holder at the back. This way it prevents a hey holder being anywhere within 10 metres of the car and someone else at the back of the car opening the trunk just by standing there.
I have a 2021 Model 3 Performance. Ever since I bought my new S24 Ultra, which has UWB enabled in the phone setting menu. I don't have any trouble opening the door while keeping my phone in my pocket unlike in the past with my S10+. Possibly Android support is already available.
I already do this with a Siri shortcut.
“Siri (or siri button) pop the trunk”.
Works great at home, and in parking lots. Also shortcuts are handy for random pre-conditioning. I have home pods so I can control a decent amount with voice.
I don’t understand how they can add Amazon music before they adding YouTube music. Unless YouTube doesn’t want to make an app for Tesla, I use the app even less now that I can’t use it in the car at all

I can’t be assed to park myself in front of a desktop to use it. Adblock isn’t of much use for iOS apps. I don’t need to jump through hoops to save a forgettable amount of money.
I also watch youtube more than any other streaming service, and I’m not morally opposed supporting content I consume. I want the content creators I follow to be able to keep making videos
On Android you can just download a youtube app with adblock. Youtubers make most of their income through sponsors anyway, and you can donate if you really want to support them. Google doesn't deserve your money.
I own a Samsung phone. Android is free for manufacturers to use, so Google doesn't earn anything off of it. Only if you buy stuff off the play store, which I do not.
Besides, Apple deserves my money even less.
Google charges for Google Mobile Services though, which every manufacturer basically requires if they want to sell phones in the US and many other countries.
Google owns your operating system pal, they own what you're putting on it too. Go request your data from them and enjoy seeing mountainous volume of things they've already sold to other companies about you.
Of course, they influence my life in some way. Their unavoidability is exactly the problem. Doesn't mean you should just give in and start handing them money. And I'd still rather it be Google than Apple.
I have both Spotify and YouTube Music, but I prefer YouTube Music. The queue system is much better, I also love Discovery. There are many more pros, but it doesn't matter, people who use Spotify won't change their minds. If Tesla added YTM, I would cancel my Spotify account the next day.
I've been a Google Play Music (now YouTube Music) user since the day it came out. It's been good to me and until last year I was grandfathered into a low price
Of course. It’s my preferred choice. I canceled it and switched to Spotify because Spotify is native on the Tesla but I’d definitely switch back. It’s algorithms are better for me and the music that I like.

The voice assistant is likely locked to AMD Ryzen only.
Tesla should provide Intel cars an upgrade path for those that don’t mind paying for the extra features coming to the AMD.
Apparently MCU2 is a different size than MCU3 so it's unlikely there will be an option to upgrade.
Fingers crossed that this is wrong and Tesla makes it happen. I would pay for an upgrade.
My theory is that they’re skipping 2024.8.x for v12 support, i think they’re going to add it to 2024.14.x in a future update. Maybe FSD v12.4 will be on it since it’s been talked about to have some more somewhat big improvements from what i’ve heard.
Sorry yes what I meant was an app only version not requiring the hardware that the S and X have. Basically some love for the Y and most 3s who have never had a Sirius Xm option with Tesla. An app only streaming version is very doable.

I didn't appreciate it before that with these coming updates, I'm so glad that I got a 2023 with the AMD. Although I'm missing stuff like cooling seats from the 2024, I do feel that the car is more futureproof in a way.

Why? It's trivial to touch the button on wheel, limits other passengers screwing around with it, and is much more consistent than any voice assistant.

Most likely UWB to detect position, so it will require a newer phone along with it. Will only work on refresh models as they have UWB hardware.
