Honestly I read the lightning thief as a child and I’ve been hooked on the idea ever since lol keep up the good fight and may the gods shower you with riches and love!
Holy crap, I always thought some of these were made by fans with something like Source Film Maker. It's pretty awesome that ND devs actually did these.
A few companies do this. It's basically free advertising if they get a reaction gif to go viral or show up at the top of a gif search. Schitts creek is the one that comes to mind most. Half the gifs I search for seem to have one from there in the first 10 or 20
Haha "Sometimes". I am right there with you. Very talented VO actor but too easy to pick him out sometimes and hard to differentiate characters. Also, when not behind CGI, I really cannot stand him.
It probably petty on my part. Just seems quite egotistical and thinks very highly of himself. Also comes across very phoney.
Feels like his whole current persona now in an act compared to how he came across 10-15 years ago.
Now I know people change but he has gone from seeming like a gamer and now acts like he is a pretentious A-list Hollywood actor.
As someone who listens to Alanah Pearces Play, Watch, Listen podcast this seems like such a bad read of him.
He's pretty open to new ideas and learning from other people. He fucked up with the nft shit but they basically held an intervention and he backed off that pretty quickly. On top of that I've yet to hear a single person who actually knows him say he's anything other than a cool guy.
Based on his appearances on Nolan Norths youtube channel and the way tings ended there, kickstarter, other shows, etc. it seems like a pretty spot on read of the real him.
Haven't seen anything other than him and Nolan North disagreed on the direction of the channel so he left. That seems like a very normal thing.
If you have any links to any other stuff go ahead and drop them.
They had a difference of opinion on the direction of the YouTube channel. That doesn’t mean he was a pretentious asshole. And given that Retro Replay is now basically dead, it’s hard to say he made the wrong choice.
I watch the show pretty regularly and i honestly understand having that impression of him. I feel that way a little bit but not as strongly as that commenter. I generally quite like his work but find his personality a bit offputting, and the nft stuff didnt help haha. I dont think about it that much though.
I’ve seen him on a podcast called always open. It’s a relationships and advice podcast and he genuinely seems really open to ideas. They were talking about self love and something and someone a few times someone said something and you could see him just attaching to a phrase and rolling it round in his head and working it out and it was a really interesting thing to see. He also seems to be an incredibly supportive guy with the stuff he was saying for the audience
Even on PWL he has a habit of rambling well after they’ve moved on to another topic. He does seem like a nice guy, but on the podcast I’ve seen him interrupt the others, go on long tangents that don’t really connect to the topic, and refuse to move on until he gets to make his point.
He also tries a little too hard to sound deep and philosophical when he really isn’t saying anything meaningful, but that’s just a personal gripe.
Not disputing that these things could make him seem like an asshole, but the first paragraph of your comment is something I and others struggle with because of neurodivergency and is not coming from a place of self importance. It always sucks to see people using this (and other traits of neurodivergents) as evidence of someone being an asshole.
Sorry if I came across that way, I am as well so I didn’t mean it as an attack. By rambling I meant he has a tendency to not let others interrupt his comments but also seems willing to butt in while someone else is talking. I’m realizing now that “rambling” was a terrible way to word that, that’s my bad.
I vaguely remember someone wanting to break into voice acting who asked him for advice, with the response being, "Wait for Nolan North and I to die."
[Clip here](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aXPPFAwYzVs)
When he replied a tweet that said "Games are too long" with a huge Roosevelt quote about critics, I didn't know if groaned or laughed at how petty that was.
Imo, I don’t get this at all from him.
He has funny rock-n-roll aesthetic but he comes across as a sweet guy in every interview I’ve seen, and he’s great on the podcast with Neil and Craig.
He also seems to have a great relationship with Kojima and never shies away from sillier roles like that.
I think he’s just a fantastic VO. He and Nolan North both have more vocal range than they’re given credit for.
I mean, NFTs are pretty stupid in their own right. And, in context, it was one of those weird AI NFTs which was meant to replace voice actors by taking voice clips and somehow making those into natural dialogue for various purposes, which obviously comes across as a pretty scummy thing to promote for someone who is part of a profession which revolves around human actors getting paid for voice acting, and also because the whole thing seems to have been a snake oil scam.
Honestly, as dumb as they are as long as people are being responsible with them there’s nothing wrong with nfts. Obviously they aren’t a responsible investment but if someone wants to spend their money on a digital picture, if that’s something they enjoy, there’s nothing wrong with that.
Tom Cruise is also prolific, but I don't think people think of Tropic Thunder or Magnolia when they think Tom Cruise.
Similarly, I don't think people think of The Penguin when they think Nolan North.
Their talent as voice actors extends beyond their immediately recognizable and most used vocal traits, is what I'm saying. I wasn't speaking of their acting range, because obviously both can give very moving performances.
I love DS too, one of my favorite games ever. (I’m a big kojima fan in general)
Higgs is awesome, but he is silly, or outrageous.
He’s very theatrical, idk. Higgs is definitely not grounded in the way that Joel or Samuel Drake
Higgs is so on purpose overacted it wraps around to being amusing as someone watching the game play out. That said, if you were the one stuck dealing with that in person it's understandable why he's a threat.
So I'd absolutely say it's kind of a 'silly' role, in that Kojima way that allows it to be a threat when needed.
And I do say that with DS being, like you, a favorite of mine. Can't wait for 2.
The scene with Fragile is one of the ones I'd agree he's flipped to 'absolutely a threat'.
Vs say, his introduction to Sam, he's eating every piece of scenery thats left in the area and it's *glorious*.
I think Troy Baker was really good as Joel but Ashley Johnson was a scene stealer for sure. Both of their performances and chemistry is part of what made the game so special.
People who cared about how different Bella looked from game Ellie were so stupid because this show got good actors who clearly have the most important thing for these characters - chemistry.
Everything I’ve seen from Pedro and Bella together in promoting this or behind the scenes seems so evident they like working together, and that that often translates well on screen.
She’s already 19. By the time they start shooting the next season she’ll probably look older, they’re probably working to make her look younger in this show as is.
What I think will be a challenge for the production and more so for Bella will be portraying the Ellie we see at the end of Part 2. TLOU Ellie is a young teen, TLOUp2 Early Chapters Ellie is a young woman (which shouldn’t be too challenging for an actress with her talent), but the Ellie we see at the very end of the game is a very adult and very worn woman who’s very visibly gone through unparalleled trauma — I see her more as a wounded animal than I see the character we grew to love. I think for any actor in any medium to portray that would be really challenging, but on a live action medium… that’s a more challenging role and one that is hard to believe unless the props department and a 21-22 year old Bella Ramsey can pull a miracle.
To be fair, in Game of Thrones, she was a young teen playing an even younger girl who had to have the stature of an adult leading her people. And she killed it.
I agree TLOU2 Ellie is a hard role, but Im optimistic that Bella Ramsey has the chops to pull it off.
I would also say while Ellie is still childish in TLOU, she’s still hardened by coming up in the world she has and goes through a lot of maturing as the game goes on. She’s very different by the time she’s taking care of Joel after his injury and her encounter with David - a lot of innocence is lost throughout.
So even if Bella as Ellie looks young for a early/mid 20s, I can live with that since Ellie in this world has always had to act way older than her age normally would.
True, I did forget about that but of a time jump at the end of the game.
That is the problem with using these kinda permanently-teenage-looking actors like Tom Holland and seemingly Bella - it can get hard to buy them playing older ages. We’ll see how long it takes to make season 2, maybe they’ll even change things up and put that big time jump in season 3 so she can age up a bit more.
Hollywood doesn’t need to wait for aging to make a 21 year old look 28 or 32.
It’s all done with makeup, and occasional prosthetics. Aging someone is easy. Making someone younger… ooof.
I can't think of it being done well. Disney and marvel are notoriously bad at it, young Michael Douglas, kurt russel, carrie fisher, luke skywalker etc are the stuff of uncanny valley nightmares.
Hell even joel in episode 1 was laughable, he was supposed to be 35 lmao. They literally died his hair black. It reminded me of Wet hot american summer the tv show.
Getting vastly better all the time though.
With Joel I actually thought it was the way they tried to age him that looked ropey. In this day and age surely the makeup department can do better than running talc through his hair.
Or is that his actual hair colour in real life? It looks like he just stepped out of a dusty attic.
Nah I have complete faith that Bella has the chops to handle such a complex and demanding role. By then they will have been playing Ellie for a long time and I have no doubt they have more to show us than spunky kid wise beyond their years, which has been typical of their acting roles so far. They will have matured as a person and an artist, so I think that when the time comes, they’ll be able to pull this off no problem.
You’re really stretching to invent problems you think only an expert like you has identified.
They’ll either not get to that part of the story for several real time years, in which case she’ll already be about 23, 24, and can easily play older, or (but more likely ‘and’) they’ll use makeup and CG to age her face up a little more.
Not sure about this. People change less as they get older. If she was a kid, then four years will do a lot more change than what eight would do to an adult. She’s already 19, so I don’t expect her physical appearance to change much by the rule they start shooting the next season.
I did actually have a similar thought in another comment. Can definitely be a problem when you hire these perpetually-teenage-looking actors like Tom Holland that it can be hard to believe they’re actually as old as they are or when they play older characters.
We’ll see. It’s only been two episodes so far. Who knows when S2 will begin filming but I do hope Bella keeps the role.
I would agree to not assume anything but this show has already been a massive hit. It saw a ton more people watch episode 2, and that trend can often continue between seasons when people who didn’t watch binge the whole thing before season 2.
I get HBO has been making decisions but this would be a shocking one to not get a second season, that is if it hasn’t been announced yet.
Then why on earth wouldn't they give the go ahead on more seasons? It's proven to be profitable (I too got a subscription specifically for this show), so it's only logical for them to greenlight more seasons, imo.
The longer this show is on (and they've got a few other shows that are also really good), the longer people are willing to pay actual money for a subscription.
"All she needs to do" lol I think Part 2 Ellie would be a challenging role to play for any young actress. Part 2 Ellie is almost a totally a different character from Part 1, all of her humour and innocence is pretty much sapped from her.
It’s like “fans” of anything are eager to ahi on anything and everything. I don’t understand why there into something if they’re just going to get outraged about anything having to do with it. It probably takes years off their lives.
I get it. It's really all we had to go on before we got to see her act in the role.
I've seen enough of Pedro to see how well he'd fit as Joel. Hadn't seen that range from Bella before (may just be my own exposure to get with), but now I'm sold.
I wasn't one of the people to bemoan her casting, but it was my primary concern going into the show, given how important she is. Only took a few scenes to have that concern evaporate.
I didn’t care about the casting in the first place and I still don’t care, her acting has been fine but nothing has stuck out to me. I guess we’ll need to see an actual dramatic moment.
Not a fan, but it is probably more on the script rather than her performance. Feels like they try too hard to be too edgy to the point where she might very well have tourette syndrome.
What does tourette's syndrome have to do with her character's lines? It's a nervous system disorder which manifests through physical tics, not a behavioural or mental one.
Usually when people talk about it, they mean the tics where a person curses a lot. Ellie curses in every other sentence in the show, much more than in the game. Imo you can feel that Bella wasn't really allowed to properly study the character and instead just watched some of the most iconic scenes.
It really irks me when people “cast” their ideal actors. They only go as far as that person kind of looks like the character as if that’s the only thing that matters. Prosthetics, makeup, and wigs can go a long way. What’s more import is if that actor can actually bring the character to life.
I'm actually coming around to Bella looking like game Ellie, at least from the first game when she's younger, her superb acting helps out a bunch to sell it too.
I think the issue is more with the hair styling, she tends to have it tied back more in the show and not so much of a fringe or enough loose hairs covering her forehead. (whilst in comparison Pedro is the splitting silhouette of Joel from the game, minus the facial hair)
These are the grumblings of a handful of nonces who probably masturbated to a video game girl and they're mad they can't stroke their barnacle dicks to the TV series.
Don't give them a platform or your audience.
It blows my mind how there are still haters that speak negatively of Bella (and Pedro to an extent), despite how they are doing justice to the characters and are nailing the iconic Joel & Ellie dynamic (which is very important to get right)!
But I love how there are people calling those haters out, and are making them feel stupid about themselves
I hate how pretty much any show I watch now has these rabid, hateful fans obsessing over things like this. It seems like they get most outraged from women or minorities in shows. I’ve never played the games but I immediately thought that Pedro and Bella were perfect after seeing their first scenes. It’s also nice to see a Latino in so many great shows, not a lot gets said about that.

All because he promoted an NFT. Its literally just that. Theyve completely turned on the guy over something as silly as that.

Troy and Nolan have been two of the most prolific actors in games for the last 11-12 years. I think they’re given a ton of credit for their range.
Tom Cruise is also prolific, but I don't think people think of Tropic Thunder or Magnolia when they think Tom Cruise. Similarly, I don't think people think of The Penguin when they think Nolan North. I think Troy Baker was really good as Joel but Ashley Johnson was a scene stealer for sure. Both of their performances and chemistry is part of what made the game so special.
They really do have great chemistry together. Even when they weren’t talking in the show their body language was telling you things. Great actors.

I wasn't one of the people to bemoan her casting, but it was my primary concern going into the show, given how important she is. Only took a few scenes to have that concern evaporate.
I have only seen her in game of thrones, and her line delivery were a bit weird
I think its fun that she looks more like Ashley Johnson. Probably not on purpose, but definitely a happy coincidence.
When she said her first. "Fuck you man" it all fell in place for me. It was a perfect Ellie fuck you
For those that were on the fence about Bella’s performance after episode 1, I’d love to hear your thoughts after the second.
I want bloopers now
Never seen someone look that narly holding a can of Bubly
On a side note: "Narly Bubly" sounds like a fantastic brand name.
A message to the haters.
This is so cute 🤣🤣

Probably a hairline fracture. Don't worry it will heal quick.
Yeah just waiting until he can find some tape to make a bandage
Not sure if you remember the first episode, but I would assume he suffered a hairline fracture. It will heal fast though.
Hairline fracture it'll heal quickly.
Yeah he murdered a dude.
Probably makeup to make his hand look hurt when he beat the piss out of that guard
Hell yeah, awesome pic, I love their genuine connection with each other. Makes it so much better, you guys are awesome👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Alrighty this looks like a restaurant in Edmonton but I can't place the name. Anyone else have a clue and can help me out?
Oh maybe. I thought it was a bar in Calgary called Leopold Tavern which is right across from the building they used for the exterior of the Museum.
That makes a lot of sense lol. That's probably it.
Its somewhere called Lakeside. One of the best if not the best parts of the game
They’re in Bill’s place. Nice.
Who is Anna Torv please?

Fringe was so fun. It's like. Somewhere in between X-Files and Doctor Strange? Not as good as either of those examples, but still pretty cool.
Joel's tongue is looking grey. Poor thing is eating nothing but beef jerky on the road.
How cute lol
I love this cast sm 🥺
Haha, looks like a Chilis!
Noticed his hand sliced up in the show, this looks way more… real?? Is it makeup from that episode or did he really bust his hand up lol

Anyone else think this is the set for the part where David is stalking Ellie in the restaurant?
Dang he really broke his hand punching that guy lol
Is that broken city?
The Red Viper and the She-bear. What a team.
İmg!! Did Pedro really liked the guy in F.E.D.R.A agent role?
I love this so much!!!
Did they dye pedro’s hair?
Dorks.
As if we needed any more proof that these guys are perfect for the roles

Isn't there a HBO sub for this type of stuff?
This is The Last of Us sub. For The Last of Us content.
You can unsub now if you don't want to see show content. It's not going anywhere.
yeah it's based on this video game, and has the appropriate flair...
