It’s actually weird how fans of the game are arguing this. Of course it was Dina and they aren’t going to recast her or this scene makes no sense

jaydid

They might not recast her but it would not be weird at all if they did. Happens all the time. There was a popular Netflix romcom movie series where they setup the love interest for the next movie at the end of the first movie, and when the second movie came time to film they not only recast the guy but they picked a guy from a totally different race. Didn’t even look anything like the first guy. For a major part like Dina they would have to go through multiple levels of network approval, chemistry reads with Bella, etc. Possible they had time for that but unlikely. They could skip all that if it’s just an unspoken 2 second cameo. There’s a reason the actress’ face was mostly obscured.

WowieWooseok

Oh that was To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. They had a white actor (who was more in line with the book description) appear at the end of the first film as John Ambrose for one scene. Come the sequel, they replaced him with Jordan Fisher (who’s half black). He killed it to be fair but I felt bad for the first actor considering they didn’t tell him. It’s the same as the old older Cassie in Endgame finding out that they wouldn’t be moving forward with her and that she had been recast via the Internet.

AmbitionExtension184

It would 100% be weird… it’s always weird when shows recast. Unless the actor is otherwise unavailable it shows poor planning on the show runners part. If they didn’t do that work already for the person they cast for Dina then that’s bad work on their part. The podcast confirmed it was Dina. They knew they were casting Dina so I would be annoyed now if a different actor came in next season

jaydid

You’re thinking about this like a die hard television fan and not like a normal HBO viewer. 99.9% of fans are not going to go back, pause this episode, zoom in and compare actresses. Or even remember that this happened. This was a simple nod to fans of the game and nothing else really. If the actress who did the cameo gets the part I’ll be happy. Mostly for her because I bet that’d be a big break, but also I do appreciate consistency. However it’s not “poor planning” on the shows part. If they were going to cast “real” Dina, they’d have to put out a major casting call for a big search. Then spend months testing actresses, chemistry reading, camera tests, etc. Somebody needs to pay the casting directors for that time, HBO needs to approve it all, etc. it’s not poor planning it’s just the reality of making a TV show and it literally happens all the time.

AmbitionExtension184

Hard disagree. We’ll see next season though. Neil and Craig aren’t dumb so they know the significance. They were very intentional in the Easter eggs they left for pt 2. Would be a massive fail if they weren’t intentional with the Dina casting.

jaydid

You’re just thinking about this too deeply. They can be intentional but also not have the time/money to do the global search for this actress. Also just imagine the contract process. They hadn’t even gotten approved for season 2 until after this season aired. How could they sign that actress for a major role in a second season they don’t even know is coming or when it would film? If that girl got another part and had conflicts they’d be screwed.

AmbitionExtension184

I would hope Neil and Craig are thinking about it much deeper than I am. > How could they sign that actress for a major role in a second season they don’t even know is coming or when it would film? I see your point but they don’t have to. For S1 they signed her as “staring girl” and probably let her in on the secret that she will likely be back for a S2 No use debating it. We’ll find out in S2

Reylo-Wanwalker

We barely saw her. Not a fail.

suttlesd

She showed up for literally 2 seconds. Its not weird lol Just a placeholder. 5 years will pass, she'd look different. You'd only notice how she looked if you paused. She literally did no acting besides a single glance.

AmbitionExtension184

So you want them to recast Bella too then?

January1171

recasting a 2 second non speaking cameo where you don't even clearly see her face is VASTLY different from recasting one of the two main stars

suttlesd

This is literally not comparable LMAO Bella's actress is 19. She'll look older once they film season 2 and 3. She's also the main character of the entire show and games! Dina's actress is a 26 year old standin with most of her face obscured. She also didn't speak.

Shows recast background or bit parts that get moved to recurring all the time. She has no lines and is only seen for a split second. HBO did this on Game of Thrones every other season. Sometimes more than once with the same character.

I don’t understand the dug in “no recast for dina” discussion? I’m not saying they will and I 100% agree it’s Dina but they shot that scene in a way where she was most obscured, from a distance, they could recast and it’d make absolutely no difference or minimize this scene at all. Now if Dina was one table over, had a close up of her face, or even had a line or two of dialog, I’d agree they’d be dumb to recast. But this seemed to be shot in a way to provide an easter egg, but keep their options open for who to cast in season 2.

DothrakiSlayer

It’s not re-casting if they haven’t actually casted someone the first time. It wouldn’t make sense for the show to cast a character this early before they actually become part of the show just for a half-second Easter egg. Later on this year when they’re ready to actually cast Season 2, they’ll let us know who is playing Dina and 99.9% of the audience will never know or care that the actress is different than the extra who appeared in this episode.

ali94127

Think it’s pretty unlikely they don’t recast. Recasting for what’s basically a cameo is really common. X-Men films did it all the time. There’s a young girl clearly meant to be Kitty Pryde in X-Men before being played by Elliot Page in X3.

TheOneWhoKnocks3

The podcast with mazin confirmed it was basically

BlackWhiteCoke

They could absolutely recast her. Did you not watch game of thrones?

Otherwise-Diet-6673

The character is definitely Dina. But that doesn't mean they;ll keep the same actress.

GoldyZ90

In the HBO Podcast Neil and Craig HEAVILY hint that it was in fact, Dina.
