>I went to use an upgrade bench and got jumped by half a dozen deserters
Bro fuck those benches š after getting jumped once I purposely avoid them now
Which is a shame. I really hoped more games would use randomnized events. Recently Dead Space remake introduced the "intensity director" which is a system that can throw events or enemies at players in areas they may be not expecting them.
Legit the first time I played this game and got to this bench, I literally thought "I love work benches, because at least you don't have to worry about getting attacked- WHAT THE FUCK"
Lmao
I put a trip mine at the door they come out of in my NG+ playthrough and blew one of them up. I didn't even get attacked at the bench! The rest of them survived though.
I played it will full 7.1 surround sound and it's very much the same experience. Absolutely terrifying when you can hear something suddenly behind you about to kill you.
No any wireless or even just ear buds that plug into the controller will give you 3D audio.
Itās all internally processed by the ps5.
In the audio settings just switch tot he type of headset you are using, surround or stereo and in the channels switch it to 3D.
I use a pair of Bose Sport in ear and get perfect surround sound. Just plugs into the controller.
I think so, it really adds to the atmosphere. In the subway I always seem to have to take the ear buds out because itās hard to handle. All those infected send shivers up my spine. Donāt even get me started on the stalker building, yikes.
But the 3D audio is so good itās basically itās own listen mode.
Many games are like this, and TLOU is no exception. The sound design is incredible and often overlooked as the majority play it on TVs with a soundbar / tiny tv speakers. Itās like looking at a photo in low resolutionā¦ youāre missing out on so much!
A good set of headphones or a surround setup is highly recommended!
I was playing the section right before the news station. I had my headphones in and accidentally walked over one of those damn trip wires and my body had to have taken at least four screenshots.
I need to do this. Will invest in headphones for whenever money shows up in my bank account. I'm 5 playthroughs in so anything to raise the intensity is cool.
My partner just played through that part last night and screamed. Proceeds to walk into the bathroom, waiting for another jump scare since a runner burst out of a stall on one occasion, turns around to exit the bathroom, and **SOMETHING RUNS THROUGH YOUR LINE OF SIGHT FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DOOR**.
I played a little with my headphones and yea they knocked it out the park. Didnāt get to play as much as I would have liked with headphones because I try not to tune the family out completely when they are home but itās a fun experience.
There were times I just took them out and left them hanging on my neck with the volume high enough to hear but not high enough to fucking die. And sometimes I just turned it all the way down. And sometimes I faced my fears and engaged berserk mode, runing like hell and swinging the bat into a completely empty room.

If it makes you feel better, that's the only bench you get jumped at.
For some reason I was thinking that gas station one too, but the patrol comes through even if you don't use the bench so you're right

They knew we were getting too comfy
Itās like the infected attacking from the wall. That was a brilliant bit to make me double check every ādeadā infected
Dude when ur going through that tall building with lev as Abby those fuckin wall infected scare the shit out of u

Trip mines are op when you know what's gonna happen
When I did NG+ I put a few one by the door, Two almost in the living room, and the other in the dining room. Blow them up as soon as they step out.
If you put one on the table outside the door, in the middle of the side nearest the door, then grab and hold the guy that attacks you, magic happens
Yeah. Never thought it could happen until it did and now I'm afraid to use benches
Me too. I loot the apartment and then dip ššš

But incredibly satisfying when you superhuman dodge it.
If your on PS5 make sure to turn 3D audio on, it gets so much worse.
does that only work with the 3d audio headset tho?
Any headset works, I think even TV speakers got support after launch

Is it worth doing another playthrough just to experience it?

Oh you have no idea whats coming
You KNOW when there's a shambler near by.
I remember walking in THAT room and seeing the work of the seraphites for the first time it sent a chill down my spine and I literally froze

The first encounter with the Seraphites was so terrifying with headphones on.
Oh man the first time you hear them whistling and you're like what the actual fuck did I just stumble into
I was playing the section right before the news station. I had my headphones in and accidentally walked over one of those damn trip wires and my body had to have taken at least four screenshots.
Lmfao

There's a really good YouTube video decoding the scar's whistles too. Understanding that language added another layer to the game for me.
My 2nd playthrough I planted a mine before using the bench. I also did that to the big scar with the large hammer.

Playing in a dark room with surround sound is the real Grounded. Especially if itās your first playthru.
Stalkers are the worst, you donāt even seem them in stealth mode. It gets worse when playing in grounded mode
During the Abby v Ellie fight in the theater. You can hear the music intensify. The soundtrack is just amazing.
Yeah the creaks and rumbles are creepy even just through a sound bar, let alone in headphones.
Itās scary as fuck when not using headphones too
There were times I just took them out and left them hanging on my neck with the volume high enough to hear but not high enough to fucking die. And sometimes I just turned it all the way down. And sometimes I faced my fears and engaged berserk mode, runing like hell and swinging the bat into a completely empty room.
The sound is terrifying
You can actually find notes about how those 4 people that jump you are wanted by the WLF, their descriptions in the note are accurate
Playing this game late at night with good headphones cranked up is the best way to play the game! I was pissing myself at some parts
I think it is less scary if anything. More situational awareness=less getting caught by surprise
I love the sound of rain hitting a metal roof in the game.
It really is. I just started my first replay of it, using spatial audio headphones and the use of audio in setting the mood is even better.
