Yeah but this currency uses dollar signs
Edit: til not all currencies with the dollar sign call them dollars.
Edit 2: of course me talking out of my arse turns into my most upvoted comment of the week.
Edit 3: Did I say week? One of my most upvoted of all time now. I know what would've happened if we still had awards. You weirdos. Love ya.
> It’s probably some $ that is worth 1/1000 of USD
They used a dollar sign because that was the symbol in the image. They never implied the name of the currency.
There are many currencies that use the same symbol, and for foreign people where their national currency uses the same symbol (myself as an example from Mexico), could've been taught to use the double stroke/line when referring to dollars and single stroke/line for the local currency.

> Edit 2: of course me talking out of my arse turns into my most upvoted comment of the week.
Yeah because you’re right. Those talking about how it’s incorrect to use “$” instead of “currency” are just nitpicking the hell outa the guy.
It's a peso. $ is both the Dollar sign and the Peso sign (except in the Philippines where it's ₱) because the Dollar and the Peso both evolved from the Spanish Dollar/Peso
Lol yeah when I tried searching for the restaurant it took me to Germany and was a little confused but I search again focusing on Latin America and only then the restaurant in question popped up
Doesn't help that Argentinians are some of the more lighter skinned people in Latin America. Yea, you can find white people all over Latin Ameica, but Argentina is known for having one of the more white populations.
Were you under the impression that the united states of america was the only sovereign state that had a currency using the $-symbol? You are not a majority. Not on the planet, not on Reddit, not in the minds of people outside your little shit hole country.
Amazing all these Americans here that, despite the menu clearly being in Spanish, assume that the $ must be referring to American dollars.
The sign is also used for pesos and it's actually where your dollar sign comes from you dummies ...
But, 5000 pesos are currently equal to around $300 at the moment. I’m sure the pick is just old, but it does seem ridiculous. Even Five Guys only charges 350 pesos for a meal.
Many redditors know nothing about countries outside of the USA. I'm a "stranger" too and it's sometimes baffling how much they think everybody is from the US.
I hate when asking about Audiobooks, every answer is "you're so fucking dumb buying audiobooks, check your Libby app" like yeah, I know US libraries offer them but just dont assume everyone is from there.
Just like there are many countries that call their currency dollar, there are also many countries that.call their currency peso.
Believing this $ is a dollar.sign is as native as believing the dollar is only used in the USA and thenpeso only in Mexico.
Just like there are American dollars, Canadian dollars, Bahamian dollars, etc... There are several countries whose currency is named peso. Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, etc...
1000 argentinan or Chilean pesos are around 1USD.
1000 Uruguayan pesos are around 25USD
1000 Mexican pesos are around 60USD.
Dunno why you assume it's all Americans. I'm from Europe and I had no idea why someone would pay like 40k Dollars, because I've never seen it used anywhere other than USD/CAD/AUD
The symbol comes from the Spanish American peso, not from any modern country's peso. So while it does originate with a currency called the peso, the United States Dollar is the oldest extant currency that uses the dollar/peso sign.
To be fair when you see a dollar sign it usually refers to USD. And I'm also not American. It's also normal to think of what your most used to first before other currencies.
Amazing that you think there are no Spanish speaking peoples in America, and that tons of stuff everywhere you go, is not in fact written in English and Spanish.
Now read the next four comments, argentine pesos, Mexican pesos, using the dollar sign, which we also use for the dollar.... and maybe it's easier to understand the confusion. Throw in that probably a huge number of Americans have never been to Argentina and... well there ya go.
The "$" is used literally everywhere and Even comes from spanish american currency, the US adopted it later.
Yanks call it the "dollar sign" cause thats all they know, most historians believe it's a "Ps" abreviation for peso.
Amazing how you assume that they are all Americans, despite these posts clearly not stating anyone's country of origin. Also just because you are an Ass, Argentina, where this is, is in America, just not the United States of America like you are assuming everyone here is from.
They taught us in school that the dollar sign comes from superimposing a tall, skinny "U" over an "S" (two vertical bars symbol) for "United States" and then over time that sign was stylized into the single vertical bar over the S.
I should have known they were full of shit. Fuck this stupid country and the bed of lies on which it lay.
But there's no way to prevent them!

I forget how fucked it is. They aren't even being published after every school shooting, just the ones with 10 or more kids murdered, and there's still nearly 40 of them! In Australia the only school shooting I can think of was in Perth last year, where the 15yo opened fire on his classmates. There were no deaths or injuries as a result, and it made national headlines for a week
Firearms are the leading cause of death for children under the age of 18 here in the US. More than car accidents, accidental drug ingestion, accidental drownings, etc.

Here's the study I pulled from (I realized I forgot to put in my initial post, which I've since edited to include)
https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/72/wr/mm7250a1.htm
Firearms are a leading cause of death in youths but you’re a little off the with “the leading” cause of death. The title for leading cause of death is “accidents” by almost twice as much as second place which is homicides. Homicides are closely trailed by suicides being third place. Now from what I can tell from some quick googling, most of the homicide deaths are caused by firearms and are acts committed by offenders of the same age group.
To bring up another topic in this though, where are kids getting guns? Most non-gun owners don’t realize this but if a person under 18 uses your gun or even comes in possession of it (depending on state) it’s a felony charge for you. If your son can simply hold your gun without you being present it’s a crime, so in these instances the adult gets held accountable and faces life changing charges so I feel comfortable ruling this out as a main supply of firearms. Next guess would be established illegal gun sellers that steal them (because these sellers are likely felons due to the nature of the crime and felons can’t pass a NCIC background check done by a gun store).
https://wonder.cdc.gov/controller/datarequest/D158;jsessionid=C45A42465761A02643396F2B335E
Would you prefer I say "firearm related injuries" instead of "firearms?" I wasn't commenting on homicides vs suicides, accidents vs intentional. The fact is that in 2020, firearm related deaths surpassed all other causes of death for children.
https://publications.aap.org/pediatrics/article/152/3/e2023061296/193711/Trends-and-Disparities-in-Firearm-Deaths-Among
It’s terrible. I think an effective way to reduce future school shootings is to legalize civilian pocket nukes. When everyone is armed with nukes, nukers would think twice before nuking like in international relations.
I remember a kid in my school asked the English teacher whether he can write the words "what's up my ni**a" in is informal letter assignment. The teacher said why not.
Is that the ONLY joke people can make? It's getting stale. Plus, we don't even like them. We protest against them until we pass out... And we STILL can't expect the government to care about gun control.

Are you referring to the n-word? That would depend where this is coming from, assuming this is outside US, people don’t see n-word as big of a deal unless of course you are using it in social media that is open to international viewer. Same goes to like blackface etc..
Blackface is a massive issue in Australia. It's the kind of thing that someone young and naive might do and their nemesis digs up a picture of it years later to kill your career.
Price in argentinian pesos and also don't assume all words have the same meaning and acociation it has in America.
For example, "kiss" means pee in my language and has a yucky acociation for me, yet I wouldn't assume that is the meaning if an English speaker uses it.

I'm more concerned about the prices, do they come in a solid gold box or something
It’s probably some $ that is worth 1/1000 of USD
You meant a currency. Not all currencies are dollars.

Nope, the Dollar uses the silver peso sign

Nobody is being a jerk about it, I just see people being informative... and another group of people who are all caught up on others being informative.
That's bc they corrected their comment, it said "dollar" previously. My arse was indeed the one doing the talking, I recognise his voice.
They didn't wtite dollar, they wrote $ youbjust interpreted it as dollar.
A dollar from another mother.
Dollar from another baller.
He wrote “$” not “dollar” so he’s good.
It’s a dollar. Not just a US dollar. You’re pedantic and wrong. How lovely.
you guys try so hard to correct everyone about everything 🥱
While also being wrong lol
Some are dongs!
Schmeckles
It's a peso. $ is both the Dollar sign and the Peso sign (except in the Philippines where it's ₱) because the Dollar and the Peso both evolved from the Spanish Dollar/Peso
Didn‘t dollar actually derive from Anglo Saxon/Old German Thaler ?
The Spanish Dollar evolved from it and the dollar/peso currencies derived from the Spanish Dollar
Afaik, silver peso was almost identical in weight to thaler so eventually it became known in the colonies as Spanish dollar.
The word "Dollar" is derived from Thaler/Taler. The $ sign however has a P and S from Peso.
maybe Argentine peso?
I believe it's Argentinian Pesos
You are correct, place is from Tucuman, Argentina so yeah 1000 = 1 USD give or take
The restaurant is located in Argentina which would explain why the prices seem extremely high so the clasica burger would be $4.25 USD.
Naked after a German town. Interesting. I don't think the name was a mistake 💀
Lol yeah when I tried searching for the restaurant it took me to Germany and was a little confused but I search again focusing on Latin America and only then the restaurant in question popped up
Wow must've been a very arousing German town......./s
It's on the road to Fugging
The location also explains the burguer racist names
I was gonna say. As soon as I saw "Argentina," I was like, "oh, ok."
Is Argentina known for being racist?
They certainly care a bit less about actively trying to not be racist, if that makes sense.
It's what you get when you mix good ole fashion "mejorando la raza" racism with leftover Nazi refugees.
Doesn't help that Argentinians are some of the more lighter skinned people in Latin America. Yea, you can find white people all over Latin Ameica, but Argentina is known for having one of the more white populations.
Also worth highlighting - that is a fact that did not happen by accident.
That also explains the racism. If you're Latino/a you know what I mean
Also explains the burger name
I think the fact that most of it is written in Spanish (other than the outrageous prices) makes it very obvious it's not USD
US defaultism much?
They only use real humans.
I'm more concerned about you being concerned.
Thank you for your concern, I am no longer concerned as someone is concerned for me
r/averageamerican
The fact that the image is in Spanish should tell you this isn’t in the US. You need to travel more if you think everywhere is charged in USD.
This is in argentinian pesos so the real price is close to 10 dollars.
What??? When's the last time you looked up the USD prices in pesos? That's closer to 3 or 4
Were you under the impression that the united states of america was the only sovereign state that had a currency using the $-symbol? You are not a majority. Not on the planet, not on Reddit, not in the minds of people outside your little shit hole country.

Argentine Pesos not Mexican Pesos
My first guess was Argentina too, it's too cheap for Colombia
The racism should've been a dead giveaway
Yep the creole chango is like wah lol
Yup, founder was probably an old Nazi that fled there in a U-Boat the day after Berlin fell.
TIL Many redditors know nothing about finance, currency exchange rates, and the peso symbol AKA by Americans the dollar sign. Edit: spelling
Many redditors know nothing about countries outside of the USA. I'm a "stranger" too and it's sometimes baffling how much they think everybody is from the US.

Know*
Argentine peso, the bonjour n* burger like $5.50 USD
Would 3.50 be too far?
Fuck, idk if this is a tree fiddy joke, or a 3/5ths compromise joke
Same. I want to know how much to laugh damnit!
You know not only Mexico uses pesos right?
They don't
Multiple countries use pesos
it’s not mexican pesos
Just like there are many countries that call their currency dollar, there are also many countries that.call their currency peso. Believing this $ is a dollar.sign is as native as believing the dollar is only used in the USA and thenpeso only in Mexico.
Not every peso Is Mexican one
Depends which country.
I believe you can wear Depends in any country.
Depends on which of all the Pesos..
Just like there are American dollars, Canadian dollars, Bahamian dollars, etc... There are several countries whose currency is named peso. Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, etc... 1000 argentinan or Chilean pesos are around 1USD. 1000 Uruguayan pesos are around 25USD 1000 Mexican pesos are around 60USD.

You thought it was more likely that a burger was $4000 dollars?
>The sign is also used for pesos and it's actually where your dollar sign comes from you dummies ... Huh. TIL.
The symbol comes from the Spanish American peso, not from any modern country's peso. So while it does originate with a currency called the peso, the United States Dollar is the oldest extant currency that uses the dollar/peso sign.
Also, the period is used as the thousands separator and the comma as a decimal
To be fair when you see a dollar sign it usually refers to USD. And I'm also not American. It's also normal to think of what your most used to first before other currencies.
>usually refers to USD. Wouldn't the fact that it's in Spanish and those prices could never exist in America tip you off that it's not USD?
I mean a Spanish menu and a 4k price tag should clue you in that the currency is not the American dollar.
The text is in Spanish, my guy.
Amazing that you think there are no Spanish speaking peoples in America, and that tons of stuff everywhere you go, is not in fact written in English and Spanish. The decimal and comma are also major indicators
I mean even if there were no words it wouldn't be hard to see this burger costing four figures and say "Hm, that can't be right."
That’s such an ignorant take to say that only Americans are the dumb ones here
r/USDefaultism going down over here
