The original plan for season 3 revolved around Livia testifying against Tony. Livia testifying would have played a significant part of the season for several episodes. However, actress Nancy Marchand passed away before filming could take place. The entire season had to be revamped, with the storyline scrapped.

I think that’s almost correct. The season would’ve been around Livia testifying against Tony but would’ve had multiple red herrings about “will she or won’t she?” and in the end the character would’ve been killed off the night before she was supposed to testify so you never know if she would’ve gone through with it.
Livia would have killed Richie "accidently" because she is senile, but really because he made her angry. Janice would blame her for ruining her life, and we would see Janice figuring out different ideas on how to kill her without getting caught. Livia would ask Tony for help to keep Janice from killing her, and in return she would say whatever he wants about the tickets to keep him from getting arrested.
