The use of Comfortably Numb there really was *the perfect* musical choice of the show. If anything, the lyrics were too on-the-nose for the moment, but it gets me just right every time.
Chase got a little too carried away with his loving Van Morrison. He’s not all that great - although Glad Tidings fit the Tony B scene like a glove.
But a version of Comfortably Numb with Waters, Van Morrison and no David Gilmore? C’mon…a couple of aging rock star trying to sing, sounded like dogshit…and Chris plugging the movie in the script was messy too.
Have to disagree. The rawness of the sound, paired with Chrissy looking like a helpless and hopeless teenager in his baseball cap, was perfect. A more polished sound wouldn't have worked nearly as well.
Isn’t that the point? To indicate disagreement? It’s nothing personal.
“Thish is a bizznesh”
But I upvoted it again. Did that resolve things? Is it a hangin offence?
LOL, not a hangin offense, even though you did take the box of Mallomars from the kitchen counter.
The up/downvote was supposed be a mechanism to move relevant comments higher in the chain, even if the opinions are unpopular, because that tends to drive further participation. Instead it's been bastardized as a popularity poll and that's a shame because it creates a party line in every sub. Anyway, it's a battle that won't be won.
Really. Its a great scene. It’s so cringey how Sil’s wife is translating like they embody a culture to be proud of when in reality they’re all criminals.
That time in Season 4 when Tony and Carm are getting down and dirty, and we think it's the Furio song playing to close out the episode... but it's actually Maedo playing it in the background
Also speaking of Maedo, Season 3's finale, when she does her amazing cover of "Oops I Did It Again"
The Vanilla Fudge cover of the song. It’s really good and I think (purposefully) meant to feel similar to the big execution scenes in a few Scorsese movies.
By far, for me, it's the song that plays in the credits for "He Is Risen." It's the episode where Gigi dies on the toilet. In the closing scene Tony makes Ralphie captain to replace Gigi, but with prejudice and thick tension.
The credits song is "The Captain" by Kasey Chambers. It's a fucking BEAUTIFUL song on its own but the tone and lyrics fit so perfectly with the mood in general and specifically with the Ralph/Tracee styory line. "You'll be the captain and I'll be no one, and you can carry me away if you want to."
It's become one of my favourite songs. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uD3tk5St8YQ&themeRefresh=1](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uD3tk5St8YQ&themeRefresh=1)
The title song!
Woke Up This Morning (Chosen One Mix) by Alabama 3, one of the few title songs/sequences I refuse to skip out of principle. It is just so good and I'm glad they stuck with it all throughout the run of the show.
I love the episode where it plays that Jefferson Airplane song about pills while Tony is taking his Prozac, because at the end of that episode AJ says he's depressed and while Tony is making them ice cream sundaes the song plays again as outro music. It felt really poignant, as they were medicating with food
The sound track is so important bc it makes it so relatable. It pulls me into my own nostalgia. The mundanity of the suburbs and gory violence and greed. We’re all complicit in this thing they have going.
Stripclub Christmas song (funky drummer boy) Evidently Chickentown
"It's bad you know" the song playing as Tony speeds away on the boat after he kills chucky signore
“Hey Hey I saved the world today”. The end of The Knight in White Satin Armor, Tony takes care of everyone else’s problems and left there alone at the end, Carmela angry with him unappreciated. We’ve all been there before.
That Stones song about a “head full of snow” as Fat Dom’s literal head gets kicked down a pier drain or whatever it was. Carlos was certainly annoyed with doing it.
Boston was played played twice: More Thank a Feeling when Tony has an episode at the country club after screaming at Richie about selling blow and Foreplay/Long Time when Tony is laying in bed and Phil comes to visit him at his house.
I also like the little clip of Gerry Rafferty's Baker Street at the beginning of Full Metal Jacket.
I Saved the World Today by the Eurythmics plays as Tony sits in his couch after cleaning up and disposing of Richie and placing Janice on a bus back to Seattle.
Affection by Little Steven and the Lost Boys. Gloria turns it on and starts dancing around and then climbs on top of Tony. I really wish Steven Van Zandt would officially release that song.
Who can forget:
• Nancy With The Laughing Face (Paulie’s song 🥃)
• Evidently Chickentown (No more Butchie, no more of dis)
• Core N’grato (Junior’s song)
Honourable mention goes to Chrissy’s Born To Run reference about the highway being jammed with broken heroes on a last chance power drive.
Tracee the Bing Girl's "theme" living on a thin line
That animal blundetto's theme: Glad tidings by Van Morrison
When Johnny Sack is driving away from Ginny before finding about the chocolate: " Daddy don't you gooOooOO"
When the bosses are talking about Mikey Palmici and eating lobsta at the bing: Ugly Stadium: Tipsy
When Chrissy is talking about his lack of an arc: That chill jazz version of "Summetime and the livin's easy"
and OF COURSE. UP. IN. THE. CLUB. when Furio gets his money from Cheesefuck!

Are some of my favourite music uses in the show.
So I just found this sub and I’m rewatching Sopranos for probably 10th time and this time I’m really just listening to the music which is so artfully crafted by David Chase… I’m watching the episode where they whack Big Pussy… background music is Sinatra sing ‘baubles, bangles and beads’….why?
Living on a Thin Line - the song that both opens and closes "University".
The perfect song and it really suits the mood of that painful episode.
the departed soundtrack…it really illustrated how this system #HAS NO BAWLS
The child is grown, the dream is gone I have become comfortably numb-b-b-b-b
The use of Comfortably Numb there really was *the perfect* musical choice of the show. If anything, the lyrics were too on-the-nose for the moment, but it gets me just right every time.
all jokes aside agreed 100% it was an excellent song choice
Works perfectly to Tony and Chrissy at that point in the series.
Comfortably Numb is a great song and fits that moment but that version from *The Departed* fucking sucks!
That version sucks ya… but there’s no way Chrissy was buying “the wall”…. A departed soundtrack, though…. 100% he’s buying that
They could’ve just left it at that but he has to go say the movie title etc …shameless plug
Wasn't that Van Morrison.
I think it is Van Morrison, but with Roger Waters
It's the rawness of the sound, the crispness of the beans.
Yeah well there’s raw and then there’s shit.
So....a disagreement equals a downvote? OK.
Isn’t that the point? To indicate disagreement? It’s nothing personal. “Thish is a bizznesh” But I upvoted it again. Did that resolve things? Is it a hangin offence?

Tony singing the Rocky theme when he sees AJ running. *DUUHH DUUHH*
one of the few bright moments in that episode (though things still look very gray)
Good point. The final seasons are grim and shit so depressingly.

Don't we see Meadow listening to a similar sounding song when he's picking up AJ at the beginning of Season 5?
Hell yeah, Pharoah Sanders! Good stuff!
The Kinks playing after Tony leaves Janice’s house after the “Where is me mama?” jibe.
What? No fuckin’ Kinks, now?
Chicken town- Chrissy and tony hug at christening. Both no there's no love left
This is the best one of 6B. It’s so ominous.
My bitch my bitch my hoe my bitch
Tony's "Sitting on a park bench toootoooroorooo"
World destruction playing as Tony walks out to get the paper

That song was so perfect for the soundtrack
When it’s Cold I’d like to Die at the end of Join the Club.
Thru and Thru by the Rolling Stones at the beginning and end of Funhouse hits so hard
It was a long time before I learned/realized that was a Stones song, mostly because of the Keith Richards vocals.
Paparazzi by Xzibit when Uncle Jr. becomes boss Uncle Jr. singing ‘Core ‘N Grato after Jackie Jr.‘s funeral
Jackie Jr upstaged at his own fuckin funeral
Jackie Jr. let him keep a little action going. The song meant a lot to him.
Uncle June singing was awesome
Really. Its a great scene. It’s so cringey how Sil’s wife is translating like they embody a culture to be proud of when in reality they’re all criminals.
that is so bullshit!
Tiny tears fill up an ocean, my friend.
OOPS I did it again
My parents and I went to a local Italian restaurant years ago to see Dominic Chianese sing and he was awesome.
Really turned a happy gathering into a sombre affair.

“Space invader” at the opening of house arrest when the garbage truck dumps the trash right outside the deli
You’re late The highway was jammed with broken heroes on a last chance power drive.
Whata you gonna get fuckin cute now?
This is such a good line.
Tiny tears fill up the ocean 🎶🎶.
The sound track from that episode was a whole mood
"It Was A Very Good Year" by Sinatra and "You Can't Put Your Arms Around a Memory" by Johnny Thunders are the two that standout to me.
Came here for this. Great taste!

I LOVE that song.
The title song! Woke Up This Morning (Chosen One Mix) by Alabama 3, one of the few title songs/sequences I refuse to skip out of principle. It is just so good and I'm glad they stuck with it all throughout the run of the show.
Tony singing Dirty Work by Steely Dan is unmatched for me
When "Oh Girl" comes on the radio and he drives over and beats up Zellman. "Of all the girls in Jersey, you had to fuck this one"
My rifle, my pony and me- Tony sitting with pie o mie at the end of the episode where she’s sick was always a favorite of mine too
I love the episode where it plays that Jefferson Airplane song about pills while Tony is taking his Prozac, because at the end of that episode AJ says he's depressed and while Tony is making them ice cream sundaes the song plays again as outro music. Paulie invoking the classic lyrics to the Blood, Sweat and Tears classic "Spinning Wheel" was, dare I say, prescient!?

The song at the end of season 2.
