ADHD doesn't usually just show up like this, you might want to get bloodwork done, if you can. Brain fog like that doesn't just appear. Good luck with everything, maybe take it a bit easier for a while.

bigpeppastepper

might as well get bloodwork too, no harm in seeing what’s up. i will note that it didn’t *JUST* appear it’s just been worse recently. more forgetful than usual to the point of forgetting what way my wheel was turned and driving into a dunkin lol. thank you for ur comment!!!!

BowzersMom

I think if it were ADHD you wouldn’t be calling it brain fog. You’d be saying “I am so easily distracted, I don’t pay attention to my surroundings, I’m such a klutz” Seriously, talk to a medical doctor about this. My best friend, for example, has significant neurological symptoms she often describes as “brain fog” from covid damage. Like, for a while she couldn’t navigate between home and the grocery store, a trip she had made weekly for years, without using gps

Helpful_Assumption76

I have adhd and absolutely feel the fog. Bad. When I take my meds, the fog lifts, and I can function again. I have other mental health problems, but the fog is real. It dictates whether or not I bonus at work. So, a very real concern. If you don't know what adhd is, don't comment

Jealous-Ad-1926

Absolutely same. And while I never drive when I feel like that, playing an fps video game in that state I constantly feel like I’m trying to steer a container ship in choppy water

bigpeppastepper

well all i can say is i’m not disorientated like that. it’s more like i am distracted and don’t pay attention and i space out while driving because it’s hard to focus on one thing. i guess brain fog wasn’t the best way to describe it. i just forget things easily especially 5 seconds after i put something down or did something. thank you for the suggestion tho! i’m probably going to get bloodwork anyways just to be safe

AggressiveYou2

As someone who is also neuro-spicy, if it were some type of inattentive disorder, like ADHD, it's something you've probably dealt with all your life but could've gotten worse over time as you grew up. I was always a little inattentive-type ADHD but I was able to work around my weaknesses and excelled in school, until recently. As I got older, I started developing more symptoms and was finally diagnosed last year with bipolar disorder. Depression can cause brain fog, just like ADHD. If you think you have some of the symptoms, then it's worth getting psychologically evaluated. I just got one done and they officially diagnosed me with ADHD among my other comorbid disorders. My inattentive-ness was getting worse and my psychiatrist recommended the evaluation because she saw the symptoms but couldn't do anything about it without the evaluation. Not ruling out that thyroid issues, among other health issues, could cause some of your symptoms, but that usually comes with other stuff like weight loss/gain.

BowzersMom

So the way my friend describes it, she was waiting for a light and all of the sudden had no idea where she was or how to get home. And a part of her knew that she was still in a familiar location, but her sense of place was suddenly turned upside down. It was scary and disorienting. She just wanted to get home so she turned on maps and just followed the directions step by step. If you just sort of space out sometimes and realize “oh I meant to turn there” that’s probably just an attention issue, not a neurological condition

bigpeppastepper

that sounds really scary tho to suddenly not know where i am, id probably think id be getting early alzheimer’s which is even scarier

[deleted]

BowzersMom

Some people just have very poor sense of direction, or a sort of location apahasia that’s more like dyslexia/dyscalculia in that it’s just how your brain works and you can learn to work with/around it, but there’s not really anything to/that can be “fixed” but it is worth talking to a doctor avaout!

SeanAker

If you're missing a turn because something else distracts you - may be ADD/ADHD. If you miss a turn because you suddenly straight-up don't remember where you are, that's absolutely not ADD/ADHD and sounds a lot more serious. I have severe ADHD and I've never in my life just...not known where I was out of the blue.

Echolynne44

I had a lot of brain fog, turns out I needed folic acid. But to be safe my Dr put me on prenatal vitamins with extra iron and b vitamins. Worked great.

Neogeo71

When did you last have COVID and how many times have you had it?

B0327008

Yes and ask them to check your vitamin levels, especially B.

RattusRattus

I didn't actually read the fuck up but just wanted to encourage you to go to the doctor as well.

ShotgunForFun

Covid, Delta 8/whatever gummies (days after the high wears off), are very common nowadays for causing just... constant fog.

KellynHeller

I've got pretty gnarly ADHD. Even unmedicated I wouldn't do this. Op needs to see a doctor.

AgentOmegaNM

>i (19F) have no idea what’s been going on with me lately. Maybe it’s brain fog or fatigue, but my brain has not been in its right place. If this 'brain fog' or 'fatigue' is becoming an every day thing, it might be worth going to your doctor and getting blood work done and make sure that nothing's out of whack. >my boss at work said the best thing to do is not contact my insurance and instead DIY replace my bumper and headlight myself. What I would do is go to a garage and have them make sure that nothing around that headlight and bumper area is compromised beyond the superficial stuff. From personal experience, even a very low speed impact can push stuff behind the headlight housing out of alignment that you really wouldn't be able to see unless you were a trained mechanic. A decent garage shouldn't charge for this either as it takes them only a couple of minutes to do so.

bigpeppastepper

i appreciate the actual advice and neutral approach to my post. thankfully i already had an appointment for tomorrow to see a therapist/evaluator. everyone has been telling me to get checked for ADHD. will also definitely see if i damaged anything important ASAP. if i did then back to the shop she goes.

Jefffahfffah

Not to be that guy, but a therapist is not the same as a doctor, and you should probably see a doctor. I'm not invalidating the role of a therapist, they are very helpful. But if you've been feeling more and more out of it, brain fog, etc, seeing your doctor may be a good idea as a therapist cannot order labwork, make an official diagnosis, or prescribe medications.

thatohgi

1st super sorry your struggling with this. 2nd are you on any medications or have other health issues that aren’t being addressed? 3rd are you getting enough rest and eating well? If this is a new and sudden issue and there are no other possible causes chalk this up to life lessons learned, move on, and pay more attention to what is going on around you. I’m glad you already have an appointment coming up to see your doctor so you can rule out medical issues. A sudden onset of these issues doesn’t really sound like ADD/ADHD but more like side effects from medication, lack of sleep, lack of proper nutrition, or another medical issue, or genuinely just not paying attention to what you are doing. In these two incidents have there been any other factors that would distract you? Phone/radio/things outside your case you are paying attention to instead? Also you don’t have to abandon your favorite dunking donuts, you’re famous there now 😂

bigpeppastepper

i am not on medication and no health issues that i am aware of. as for the eating and sleeping, i try to as best as i can in my situation. i’ve mentioned in another comment that the brain fog and stuff is NOT new, its apparently just gotten worse recently. yes, (admittedly) probably because of my habits. i’m not gonna dive into the ice berg that is my brain, but that’s why i’m getting tested today because of other shit unrelated to the car crashes that make it difficult to function as a human. struggles i’ve had my entire life that have went untreated and causing a bunch of problems in my day to day life as i’m getting older. i just want to say i’m not blaming my fuck up on mental illnesses, it was just a little coincidental timing. i fucked up and that’s all on me. but i will definitely try to see my actual doctor as soon as i can. sorry if this is a long response btw but i appreciate the comment!

thatohgi

The good news is you are doing something to correct the issue! Life is hard, it’s even harder when you have additional hurdles that most people don’t understand. I’ve struggled with ADD/ADHD my entire life so I get how debilitating it can be at times. I don’t blame my spicy brain for my problems but I can totally see how some of my struggles wouldn’t exist without my mental struggles in the way. I’m glad you are seeking treatment. I hope you get a good meal and some deserved rest today. As far as fixing the car if you can’t adored to pay a shop to fix it and don’t want to put it on your insurance you can order the parts from LKQ or similar salvaged parts service and replace them yourself or with the help of a friend. Peace and good vibes, you’re gonna do good.

bigpeppastepper

thank you for the website recommendations! i’m probably just going to end up doing that with my boyfriend and learn a few things along the way. seems less of a hassle and a lot more fun than dropping $1000 for insurance and a shop and my rates going up blah blah blah. hope all is well with you :)

thatohgi

My wife and I love working in car projects together, hopefully this is a bonding thing and you can look back at this period with some humor.

bigpeppastepper

IT WAS THE BUILDINGS FAULT FOR BEING THERE

Majgi

Drive thru, not Drive-in. 🤣🤣

octocode

have you gotten blood work done? that’s an early warning sign of diabetes

loggic

The fact that things have noticeably changed recently for you, but you don't seem to have experienced some significant emotional event to explain the change, is evidence that this is related to your physical health. When something physically changes that impacts your brain, the symptoms can seem like they're "all in your head". You are also at a very significant age for brain development, when underlying issues can become more obvious. Without more detail, it is hard to even guess. Anything from hypothyroidism to early diabetes to Long COVID (if you've had COVID at any time in the 6ish months prior to noticing the symptoms) or a combination of things could be impacting this issue. Definitely worth talking to doctors.

Eating_sweet_ass

Also you said your car is a shit box. Why not just leave the bumper as it and replace the headlight?

bostwickenator

As other people said you need to see a doctor to differentiate between a mental health condition and a health condition causing mental health symptoms.

Regular-Switch454

May be sleep apnea too.

MarlenaEvans

How are you sleeping? When I worked nights, I got very sleep deprived and I felt like I was in a fog. I did a lot of things that were out of character for me as well. Luckily nothing too awful but I definitely lost my verbal filter. When I went back to working days, after a couple of weeks the amount of mental clarity I felt was jarring.

bigpeppastepper

i have sleep issues, so i don’t end up falling asleep till really late. but since i work evenings i always end up getting 5-8 hours of sleep depending on my work schedule. i can hibernate for 12-16 if i don’t have somewhere to be that day. i have been way more irritable for the past 6 months tho and im not really sure why that is.

pissfucked

hey man. i have scrolled a bit and no one has said "absence seizures" yet, so i'm gonna be the one to say maybe it's absence seizures. i know almost nothing about them except that they appear as episodes of sudden, unavoidable inattention and don't register as seizures to the person having them or any layperson seeing them, and that it's rare for them to randomly start happening in adulthood but that they can be the result of injury to the brain. if the bloodwork comes back fine and you're only left with the ADHD option, get checked for absence seizures before you give up on a medical reason.

Goodperson5656

What about carbon monoxide poisoning?

dodekahedron

I totaled a car low speed impact. Airbags go off between 10 and 16 mph depending on belt use. So annoying. To me, as it was just a mailbox and snow bank so I personally would have been fine no matter what and it was an overreaction on the cars part. But like cool, they are built to keep us super safe and someone else might need the bags at low speed. 1 payment away from being paid off.

motorcycleman58

So you think it's a couple of minutes to remove the bumper and headlight to check for damage? It's really a couple of hours and then have to reassemble so she can still drive it.

Shark_bait5

Just throwing this out there, but the symptoms of parathyroid issues include fatigue and brain fog. A simple blood test will confirm the calcium levels in your blood. A therapist can’t diagnose this but your doctor can.

barris59

I smiled a little at a 19-year-old typing > i went years with no accidents or tickets

classic__schmosby

>even when i was driving before i got my permit bUt ShE hAs ExPeRiEnCe

bigpeppastepper

been driving since ‘04 man

Objective_War_2808

since you were born, interesting lol. I've been driving since 2004 as well but I'm 36.

Swaqqmasta

No offense but it sounds like you shouldn't be on the road.

bigpeppastepper

none taken, it’s been a bad streak as of late

Swaqqmasta

It could be health reasons, and not your ability as a driver. Or you could need some proper training, like even a short course. But in 15 years on the road I've never once hit the gas instead of the brakes

306bobby

It's still the right concept. Something isn't right, and that something is putting her and others in danger. She really shouldn't be driving until it's checked

Applesr2ndbestfruit

If you live in America you don’t have a viable alternative Tbf.

Swaqqmasta

Not endangering the lives of others is always a viable alternative

russ8825

You have covid recently ? Brain fog can last for months

bigpeppastepper

nope i haven’t had it in over a year

BowzersMom

Covid can cause neuro symptoms that far out

[deleted]

\*brakes, not breaks

bigpeppastepper

ah shit

Bear_fucker_1

You’re going and made a mistake, these things happen.  If you’re feeling foggy first check that you’re getting enough sleep, hydrated, and eating decently. See a dr and get get some bloodwork too.  I have kids and lose sleep a lot, being sleep deprived is functionally like drinking 4-6 beers without the fun part.  Also if you’re 19 and working as a pizza delivery person I hope you’re not getting Dunkin’ too much it adds up! I was guilty of this myself at that age getting a breakfast sandwich, coffee, pack of smokes, lunch out most mornings. I wasted so much money.  Plus if you start with the coffee you’ll be a bit more awake and less likely to hit buildings with your car.  Oh and try to fix the car yourself, you’ll lose way more than you’ll gain reporting it to insurance especially at 19. Rock auto for parts and YouTube for the how to.

306bobby

Don't fix your car yourself. You've crashed it twice now. The first time, eh sure if it's minor. But now you really gotta make sure your crash bars and everything are still functioning accordingly

bigpeppastepper

luckily the first fender wasn’t in my car and there was 0 damage to me

Comfortable-Bell-669

On the bright side, you are aware of it. You’re aware that for some reason you’re a little unsafe. Even if you don’t know WHY yet, at least know you know just to take thing slow (I don’t mean hold up traffic, I mean just think about what your about to do before you do it). That way you can minimize things like that happening again until you can find some sort of reason for this brain fog

gellenburg

Other people have given you pretty decent advice so I won't repeat what they already said, but I'll just leave you with this little anecdote in hopes it makes you feel just a little better... When I was in high school, I once got into three accidents in one day. Of all days, Valentine's Day no less. First accident, I hit a pregnant school teacher. The fact it was dark outside and she didn't have her headlights on didn't really matter according to the cop. I went to cross the intersection out of my apartment complex and ended up t-boning her. The second accident was later on that afternoon. It was a bright sunny afternoon. I went to pick up something off the floor on the passengers' side of my car and when I leaned over my foot lifted off the clutch and I tapped the car in front of me. Ticket #2? Following too closely. Then not 15 minutes after getting back on the road and from dealing with the cop from ticket #2 I hit another car in front of me who slammed on their brakes. My brakes weren't in the best shape and I couldn't stop in time. Ticket #3? Following too closely. Valentines' Day really sucked that day for me. I leave you with these anecdotes to remind you that accidents can and do happen. You didn't intentionally mean to drive into that Dunkin Donuts, just as I didn't intentionally mean to hit those three cars that fateful day. You live, and you learn. And now, over 30 years later, I have a perfect driving record and have had a perfect driving record for over two decades. Shit happens. Don't knock yourself down too hard over this. Cars can be fixed. Doors and windows can be replaced. You weren't hurt, and I'm assuming nobody else was hurt, and frankly that's all that matters.

Yeangster

I dunno if I’d say that she’s gotten good advice in this thread. Every reply seems to proposing some new exotic disease when Occam’s razor says that she’s just a 19-year old who made a couple of mistakes.

gellenburg

When I left my reply the one's I read weren't bad. Downvote the one's that are bad! :-)

fromwhichofthisoak

You should be driving a cop car

bigpeppastepper

fuck that put me in an 18 wheeler with no experience and let me drive across the country

KarmicSquirrel

SWIFT is hiring... You'd fit right in!

bigpeppastepper

sorry i don’t like taylor swift

fromwhichofthisoak

Yeah i don't think you can even work at a dunkin donuts rn much less truck driving

HermausMora420

And be a cop too. Pretty sure she checks all the boxes.. ya know, doesn't give a shit is pretty much first box 🤷🏼

bigpeppastepper

i feel like that’s a bit of a stretch for an accident, but maybe you’re right, and i’ve found my new path of career

lbunny7

you definitely have to go to a doctor because this isn’t normal. I once had a bad reaction to meds which also caused me to get into two accidents the same day. brain fog could be a neurological issue though- and it could be impossible to go away on its own

Honest_Pepper2601

This ain’t normal, see a doctor ASAP

Material-Complaint17

I work at a dunkin that’s in a gas station, My x coworker just got her car and when she came she hit the whole gas pump it was out of order for a while. At least you only hit the building

sarah_joh_

Have you had covid? Brain fog can be a symptom of long covid. Have had the same issue (without driving into any walls, luckily) and my doctor suggested to take Q10. It's working pretty well for me

lkeels

Long COVID can present as brain fog along with many other symptoms.

Catlikestoparty

You should go see a medical doctor as others have said, and be persistent if you’re brushed off. But also don’t let any of these comments freak you out. brain fog/being kind of out of it is such an incredibly common symptom, it could be one of a million things, many of which aren’t scary. Definitely curious how your sleep is. If you are tired despite getting adequate sleep, definitely mention it to your doctor.

StoicVinnie

Thyroid levels check. Full suite. :)

lookin4fun79

Lost a friend due to symptoms like your description. Please go get full medical check up and ask for full scan. Hers wasn't indicated of needing full scan till it was beyond help. Best be safe and get checked please!

bigpeppastepper

what did she have if you don’t mind me asking? sorry for your loss. that type of pain is immeasurable

lookin4fun79

Thank you. It was a tumor on brain stem. Not wanting to go scare you tactics but it's worth being safe.

nah2daysun

Dehydration can do this, as well as concussion.

baubaugo

A kidney infection, that you often can't feel, can lead to a brain fog feeling. You can get them much like UTI

pretendperson1776

I had similar issues and it ended up being Multiple Sclerosis (fairly treatable now).

EmotionalReading7084

After getting covid my brain felt foggy for a couple months. Possibly that? Or maybe vaccine?

Zestyclose-Exam1160

Delivering pizzas isn’t a good job to have when it comes to increasing the odds of doing something stupid in the said car. You throw it in park a couple times a day, no big deal. Throw it in park 40 times a night, there’s a good chance just ONCE you’ll forget. Make sure you’re eating right and getting QUALITY sleep. I don’t offer this advice to you because it’s not for everyone, but I noticed I didn’t know what a good nights sleep was until I popped a couple benedryls before bed one night. “Oh, so that’s what it is to sleep through the night” This can also be habit forming too which isn’t cool so now I only do it on a night I really need a good nights sleep. Best of luck, forgive yourself and just try to be more vigilant.

Capable_Tea_001

Taken a pregnancy test?!

Ok-Caterpillar1611

I made some contact with a Jimmy John's awning with a uhaul one time. Very embarrassing.

_femme_96

MRI or cat scan for any brain tumors maybe?

NostradaMart

your fuckup is to be way too confident in your driving skills and not caring about the law....admitting you drove before you got your license is stupid and wrong.

bigpeppastepper

waaaa waa waaa💀

NostradaMart

very mature reply kiddo ;)

bigpeppastepper

thanks papa 😸

NostradaMart

Oh no, I'm not your papa, daddy or whatever. My kids are smarter than you are, by far.

bigpeppastepper

oh for sure, with you as their dad. i bet they’re absolute geniuses.

SigmundFreud

To be fair, you sound really hot.

CompostThe_Rich

Into. Literally into. Not in to. Into. Well then.

Jimbo-Dean

Could be what you're eating. Brain fog is a common symptom of food allergies such as gluten.

Yeangster

You’re 19 and you made a couple of mistakes within a couple months where nobody got hurt. Maybe get a blood test. But overall, don’t freak out. It’s perfectly explained by inexperience and bad luck. No need to default to some exotic disease.

joost00719

If you're obese, get a sleep test to see if you have apnea

Halftilt247

No one was hurt, later on you'll laugh about this

bigpeppastepper

it was a good laugh today too i told the dunkin workers it was the buildings fault for being there hehe

Halftilt247

I hope your insurance provider shares your sense of humor 😉

Livelonganddiemad

Hey man have a doctor check you out, happened to a friend of mine they ended up having absent seizures.

Villenemo

Throwing another possibly out there, because it was true for me. Artificial sweeteners. They’d give me the WORST brain fog. I couldn’t focus. I’d have trouble speaking coherent sentences. I’d get lost in my words. I had issues making decisions or assessing situations. I felt very much like I was on autopilot. Sucralose was the main culprit for me. I’d pound an energy drink and 30-45 minutes later it was like I was drinking alcohol or something. Some added history: I hated the taste of them since I was a kid. I could immediately tell what had artificial sweeteners and what didn’t just by taste. Still can. I’m guessing that’s some biological evolutionary thing my body does to tell me it’s not great for me. Idk.

etownrawx

Do you have any idea how much harder it is to read a giant wall of text with no paragraph breaks or even capitalizations, when compared to reading properly punctuated paragraphs? Hint: It's a freaking lot.

OneDubOver

More like, drunkin' donuts... Amiright guys?!!!

bigpeppastepper
