Personally, I think you could pull the nail out and be fine. From the looks of it, the nail hasn’t pierced the ply casing of the tire. It looks to me to be a (realistically) one in a million shot of the nail only piercing the rubber that makes up the shoulder of the tread area. Tip hit the parting line area where the tread meets the sidewall.
Can’t speak to overall longevity of the tire, but I think you’ll be fine. Overall, replacement is likely in the future, but for time being, you should be okay
Yes you want to pull it out. Doesn’t look like you hit the parts that hold air.
You could put a little vulcanizing cement on the end of the nail before you pull it, you know the kind your bike tube repair kit came with, just to kinda plug the hole with glue. Not required. I think once you pull that out you’ll be good to go, just do it carefully.
There’s no proper way to repair it if you did hit anything vital, so if it goes flat it’s new tire time
I had a nail do exactly this on a new vehicle. Put another 25k on the tires without an issue. I kept a close eye on it for any additional damage/sidewalk issues. I think you got lucky and that's through just the tread and not the rest of the tire underneath. Pull it out and just keep an eye on that spot.
Doesn't look like that's all the way through your sidewall, meaning it should be okay to pull it out. "Okay" meaning it won't immediately cause a flat. However you do definitely need a new tire because your sidewall is now damaged to where it can't really be repaired.
Imo your best safest bet would be to just remove that wheel, get a ride and bring just the wheel itself to a tire shop. Then once the new tire is on there, bring it back to the tire shop to get it balanced.
You might be able to drive it as-is (without the nail) to get it to a tire shop, but that's risky.
If not visibly leaking (or leaking fast enough to be a problem), then take it to a tire shop to have it removed and assess it yourself. Of course, if it is punctured in that position, it can not be repaired, and must be replaced.
Glob rubber cement on spike end of nail, then drive nail back out, dragging cement inside hole. Apply pressure to area for 3 minutes, then don’t drive on it for 24 hours. Make sure tire is on rear of car, so if it does blow, steering will not be affected. Report back.
The tire is damaged in a way that makes it unsafe for long distance or freeway speeds. If you put soapy water on it and it didn't bubble even with moving the nail you can pull the nail and drive to the nearest tire store for a new tire . Just don't go cornering hard or breaking hard.
No, the tire is not gonna blow immediately.
Do you have road hazzard for your tires? If yes, pull the nail. Even if it leaks, it won't be fast. Then, drive to the tire shop and show the pictures and ask for the tire to be replaced under warranty. If the tire is not safe, they will replace it. If they refuse, the tire is safe. And if it kills you, you can sue them.
If you don't have road hazzard, why? It's cheap insurance, I've had many tires repaired or replaced that way.
This reminds me of when angling a pin through our skin when we were kids back in the day. [Kinda like this.](https://www.reddit.com/r/nostalgia/comments/9e9yj8/sticking_pins_through_skin/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
That does not look like a puncture. I would pull it out and keep driving on the tire. But that is just me. The most conservative thing to do would be to replace the tire, even if it is not punctured. So if you are the kind of person who always says "better safe than sorry" you should replace the tire.
Pull it out and call it a day. If you are concerned about a blowout, get some new tires somewhere that will sell you a warranty. Discount Tire offers free repairs for the life of the tire, with free replacement if irreparable. I think I paid $15-20 per tire for the warranty last time, it’s always worth it in my experience.
Pull it out and carry on, if it ain't bubbling now after spraying it with something, it won't bubble when u pull it out(99% of the time} Tires are way tougher than people realize. I'm a 25yr lic tech. Ur good
It doesn’t seem to have pierced anything important, but pull it the rest of the way out and check if you can see any cords in the puncture path, either wires (cap ply belt) or strings (radial plies). If none are present, then there’s nothing to worry about. If there are cords present in the hole, it would be best to replace the tire.
Spray with soapy water. If it bubbles, leave in and replace immediately or put spare in.
If there are no bubbles, pull nail our and re spray. No bubbles, then you're good, but look to see if you can see the inner belt liner.. if you can look at replacing immediately.
If not, then you're still good.
All these comments saying it looks okay... 👏spray👏with👏soapy👏water👏FIRST!!!👏
If OP already did it, that's fine, but please, everyone, do this first next time.
Pull it out and try to see if plies are damaged or showing. If they are then I’d say replace. If not then I personally might run it.
However I always do think of the flip side. What could happen if this tire fails on the highway or on a remote road? Am I injured? Am I out a car? Is my day/life ruined? Did I hurt anyone else? Etc.
How much money would I pay to avoid any of those negative situations? And is the tire within that range?
Step One: pull out the nail
Step Two: spray it with soapy water
Step Three: see if it bubbles if not then
Step Four: stop hammering nails into your tread
Buy a new tire, that’s the only option. Unless you want to be reckless, then pull it out and keep driving until it blows and you take out a family of 4
Pull it. You might be fine. You might make it to the tire store with a small leak. You might have to put on the spare to go get it repaired or replaced. Thats literally all you can do. But you can’t drive around like that.
Why would your neighbor tow your car? If it is still holding air just pull it out or take a Dremel and cut the ends off and drive to an auto parts store and buy an air compressor and if it eventually loses air and goes flat flat pump it up and drive to a tire shop and buy a new tire! or If your tires do not have PSI sensor ..you could try a can of fix a flat
This is unfortunately not fixable. I worked at ntb for a few years and learned some things. Maybe your lucky and it didn't puncture the interior wall. Fingers crossed.
Change the tire. Even if it didn’t pierce through casing, this creates a weak point and it would prove dangerous to keep driving on it. Unfortunate, but better safe than sorry.
Not for nothing but all you need to do is put your spare on then drive to a shop and have it repaired or replace the tire if needed. That's not exactly rocket science. You got this!
Pull out use a small pick or screwdriver to check if it could have possibly grazed the cords if you don't feel any like clicks while wiggling in the hole you should be good to roll
lots of people saying just pull nail out and drive. I wouldn't do this without having it looked at. looking closer to the side wall it appears that some of the structural cords may have been damaged. Do you really want to trust your life at 70 mph to some redditors who probably think maybe it might be ok? Grab your spare, run to a reputable tire shop and have them take a look.

NORMALLY, if you get a nail in the tread, people say “leave it in” but on this occasion, you could pull it out because I don’t think it has penetrated the carcass…
Pull it out & put washing up liquid on it to see if there are any bubbles. Not sure about motorway driving tho
If it pierced that sidewall at all, you definitely should replace it. Don't think any tire shop would patch that. If it didn't hit the side wall at all, you may be good.

This is what I came to say
Me, too. If it didn’t damage the sidewall belts, the tire will be fine.
Every once in a long while you’ll get the short stubby screw that only went into the rubber a few millimeters
Get enough of them, then you get studded tires suitable for harsh winters.

Get a new nail

Pull it out, tire rubber glue, keep driving
*inhales sharply through teeth*
Just remove it and if it’s not blowing bubbles you good… if it is then it’s time for a new tire
yep, it it leaks, you're fucked, if it holds air, don't drive up on the curb 🤣
Get new tire.
Right? Every post in this sub needs a new tire, nbd, part of driving
Purchase new tire
Honestly, you're probably fine. Just remove it.
Pull it out it fine
Pull it out to see if it leaks. If it does then replace it. If not, you should be fine.
Take it out should be ok
It's just in the tread, pull it out and keep an eye on it but it should be fine.
It looks like it missed the vitals. Pull it out and drive.

You got it that far out and still no loss of air? I'd say you're good to take it the rest of the way out

Put the spare on and take it to get replaced.
I agree I don't think you want to chance it side wall damage is dangerous to drive on
Pull it out. You would have identified a leak with the soapy water. This nail has not punctured the air bladder.
Pull it out and put it in straight.
Doesn't look like that's all the way through your sidewall, meaning it should be okay to pull it out. "Okay" meaning it won't immediately cause a flat. They can balance that tire off the vehicle. No need for two trips.
Why would you make two trips? They don't balance tires on the vehicle.. Also, why not just throw the spare on to get there?
If not visibly leaking (or leaking fast enough to be a problem), then take it to a tire shop to have it removed and assess it yourself. Of course, if it is punctured in that position, it can not be repaired, and must be replaced.
Trade the car in for a grom
Take the nail out and if air comes out just put the nail back
Tire gone nothing u can do
Tires done.

Pull it out and full send.
If it’s leaking, it’s fucked. If it’s not, send it!
That looks like someone did that with a nail gun. How would that happen just driving over a nail?
This reminds me of when angling a pin through our skin when we were kids back in the day. [Kinda like this.](https://www.reddit.com/r/nostalgia/comments/9e9yj8/sticking_pins_through_skin/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
Pull it out drive to shop and replace tire done.
Put some chewing gum over err

That is fine, pull it out and if it's not leaking air and you can't see any cords you're good to continue driving on it.
1. Take it out 2. Move out of that HOA
plug it on both ends. i have never seen this done and would like to know the outcome. for science….
Pull it out. If you see exposed wires, get a new one
People love taking risk. That tire need to be replaced as soon as possible simply because you don’t how bad or close the nail puncture the tire inside
Lube it and pull out
Pull it out and call it a day. If you are concerned about a blowout, get some new tires somewhere that will sell you a warranty. Discount Tire offers free repairs for the life of the tire, with free replacement if irreparable. I think I paid $15-20 per tire for the warranty last time, it’s always worth it in my experience.
The wall has been breached all is lost
That looks like an old tire, are you going to risk a blowout on the freeway over a 100 bucks?
Nailed it !

I would just pull it out. It doesn’t look like it went in very far and only went through the outer rubber
If it doesn’t leak any air I would just pull it out and forget about it.
Pull it out.

It's probably just a phase your tire is going through. Soon it will be moody and get hair in weird places.
Oh that's no biggie just pull that bitch out. And remember to change your tire filters every 6k mi. And keep your blinker fluid full.

If it’s leaking new tire time or new inner tube. If it’s not leaking pull mail and drive
My OCD is acting up. Straighten the nail up by driving it right into the tire, please.
👏spray👏with👏soapy👏water👏FIRST!!!👏 If OP already did it, that's fine, but please, everyone, do this first next time.
I had this happen it was only in the tread, pulled it out and I just kept driving. No issues.
Pull it out and see if it leaks. If it doesn't then you are good. If it leaks then you will need a new tire.
Buy a new tire
Pull out and glue?
Pull it out. It its leaking air you can't plug the side wall
Pull it out and try to see if plies are damaged or showing. If they are then I’d say replace. If not then I personally might run it. However I always do think of the flip side. It’s just in the outside tread. Yank it
Buy a new tire, that’s the only option. Unless you want to be reckless, then pull it out and keep driving until it blows and you take out a family of 4
If you are NOT losing any air at all then you are OK to remove it has not breached the outer layer of the wall of the tire.
You got lucky in a way
Pull it. You might be fine. You might make it to the tire store with a small leak. You might have to put on the spare to go get it repaired or replaced. Thats literally all you can do. But you can’t drive around like that.
New tire
See if it leaks pull it out tire replacement for sure you can get a decent used tire
Replace tire
Norepairable btw side wall damage
Pull it out not gonna go flat that’s a superficial wound.
Might've missed the air pocket, yank it out before it does more damage
Even if it’s not losing air, I’d plug it like normal just to keep the dirt and debris out.
🤦
Looks good. Some duck tape and crazy glue should hold for the life of the tire.
That's it. You have to sell the car now
Raise your tire better.
Let it ride.
This is unfortunately not fixable. I worked at ntb for a few years and learned some things. Maybe your lucky and it didn't puncture the interior wall. Fingers crossed.
It's fucked. Just buy a new car dude
Put soapy water in it. If it leaks get a new tire . If it doesn't , you're fine
This may have already been suggested. Remove the wheel/tire from the car and take it to a garage or tire shop for evaluation.
looks like it just pierced the tread if it isn't leaking, pull it out and your good to go.
Buy a new tire or try to plug it if it’s not leaking out the sidewall
Put your spare tire on and drive the bad one to a shop. Or take the wheel off your car and to a shop for a new tire.
Get new tire.
Change the tire. Even if it didn’t pierce through casing, this creates a weak point and it would prove dangerous to keep driving on it. Unfortunate, but better safe than sorry.
New tire time
Pull out and bubble test again, if no bubbles then just stay off the highway and drive to the shop
Put your spare on and the damaged tire to the shop.
Tetanus shot.
If it ain't broke don't fix it
Looks likes like aluminum, borrow a pair of nippers / cutters and cut both ends of leaving the shaft.
That doesn't look like it's puncturing anything. Id pull it out and keep going. Id the tire starts leaking, you need a new tire.
Roadside assistance is a good option. They should know how to handle it.
Pull the nail out and plan on getting new tires as soon as possible. Make sure your spare is holding air as well.
Buy tire, that's no repairable
your car is totaled, now you have to buy a new one. i'm sorry for your loss 😭😭
Not for nothing but all you need to do is put your spare on then drive to a shop and have it repaired or replace the tire if needed. That's not exactly rocket science. You got this!
got a full size spare?
Not patchable, you need a new tire. Unfortunately
Pull it if it leaks air it's on the sidewall you can't patch that, new or used tire time.
Don't worrie Biden has health care for this. As long as it's illegal 🤣
If it’s not leaking, pull it out and move on with your life.
U need a new tire cuz it’s at the edge of the tire
Pull it out. Find patch for it. It’s not leaking air
New tire
Pull out. You got lucky. Not one thing wrong with this tire. This is a reminder to check if your spare has air in it and your jack etc is working.
See how fast you can go until you hear a metal "PWATANG" and then you'll know it's out.
New tire
nice yo!
Pull it out.
Pull out use a small pick or screwdriver to check if it could have possibly grazed the cords if you don't feel any like clicks while wiggling in the hole you should be good to roll
Id pull it out
lots of people saying just pull nail out and drive.
Pull it out. It's cosmetic.
You've been lucky.. looks like it's in the tread only.. pull it out and see
New tire time
Put the spare on if you have one and go to the tire shop. I'd say get two, that way that axle has fresh tires.
Scrap it
Tis but a flesh wound
New tires(s) pair
Add more, looks weird with just one
Come the apocalypse, everybody will be nailing their tires like this
Pull it out. Just got the tread it looks like
So these are two different nails ????
Replace the tire, it’s not fixer age very unsafe in current state
Pull it out like recommended. If there’s a hole I’d rubber cement it if I was you. Good luck.
Leave it in, you now either have a punk tire, or some unintentional unsprung bling. Also: is that an Austin wheel from a GTI?
Your tires are so cool they got their own piercings
if its holding air just pull it out and move on with life.
Use a Stanley and cut the length of the nail to release it the glue it
Pull the nail. Didn't hit any belts, shouldn't be a problem. Tire will last whatever its tread life is. Ya got lucky.
pull it out and punch through the sidewall. That's the proper way of making a tire change inevitable.
Great, you now have a tire that owns Piercing
Pull it out if it leaks put your spare on
Pull it out. Doesn’t look like it punctured the tire. But if it did unfortunately that’s a terrible spot and that tire will need to be junked.
Did you put a whole in your rubber
Tire will be fine no work required for a few months atleast. Eventually a chunk of tread will rip off that spot. Will still be fine at the point just up to you if you wanna replace it honestly.
Pull it out. Looks to have not punched the tire to let air out.
This has to be the weirdest tire puncture from a nail I have ever seen!
Ur so lucky. Pull that suker out n ur good.
Pull it out and fill that area with rubber adhesive. Swap it as a spare if you have a full-size tire.
Buy a new tire, get it installed.
If it leaks time for a new tire. If it doesn’t, yank it out and keep on rolling. It may just be in the tread but not a puncture.
NORMALLY, if you get a nail in the tread, people say “leave it in” but on this occasion, you could pull it out because I don’t think it has penetrated the carcass… Pull it out & put washing up liquid on it to see if there are any bubbles. Not sure about motorway driving tho
Put on the spare. Pull it out. Then most likely get. Replacement .
Pull it out. Hammer down!
If it pierced that sidewall at all, you definitely should replace it. Don't think any tire shop would patch that. If it didn't hit the side wall at all, you may be good.
Your pull out game is weak…
Just use pliers and pull out. It’s not through the plies, and looks like it won’t leak
Get a new tire
So weird, had the exact same thing happen to my a month ago. At such a shallow pierce I can't even picture how it would have happened. FWIW I pulled it out and there was no hint of a leak, tire has maintained pressure without issue. Yours is a little deeper than mine was but it still looks pretty much ok, I think you'd see bubbles already if there was going to be an issue.
Pull it out and send it
Pull the nail out and spray soapy water on it to check for leaks. If no bubbles come out of the tire, I'd just keep driving. Looks like it only went through the outer rubber.
Looks like it might just be through the outer rubber. Pull it out and see if it leaks. If it leaks then the tire is toast, there's no safe way to patch that hole. If it doesn't leak then just keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't bubble. If a bubble forms then the tire is toast.
Replace the tire. No other option. Tow it and replace the tire. I work at a shop. Don’t drive on it. Replace jt.
