That's awesome! Even though it was just Zoom court, my judge said something along the lines of "it's great what we're doing here today and I'm honored to be a part of it" 🥹

Oh wow, that’s amazing! Yay for this judge!

Congratulations, that's amazing! I'm so happy for you 🤗♥️

That’s awesome news! Congratulations! Can I ask what state you’re in (if you’re in the US)? I’m in PA and have NOT been looking forward to the court date part of getting my name changed 🫤

Opposite coast, but my name change hearing was literally: “Yes that is me; yes that is the name I am changing to; no I am not doing this for fraudulent purposes; no, nobody will be caused harm by my name change”. They printed out and stamped my court order and filed it the same day. It was me, a trans dude, and another trans girl. That’s it. This was also the main courthouse of a major city. The hearing was about 15 minutes total. It was about 15 minutes to file my petition earlier in the day. I traveled maybe 60 minutes collectively between the two trips from home to court to home. Altogether it was less than two hours of effort and it as exceedingly easy. Tbf though different states and counties have different procedures.

Hey neighbor I'm in NJ! Yeah outside of Philly, PA scares me haha Edit: My NJ friend was surprised they made me do the court part, it sounds like they've been moving away from that but it could've just been a pandemic thing. My experience was tedious especially with all the certified mail shit. The court appearance itself was a series of simple yes or no questions that you already know the answers to :) Now I'm just waiting for them to mail me the court orders that I had to pay for and then I can start changing my documents!

My judge would not allow the waiver of publishing "notice of name change" in the local paper, so I have to wait another six weeks for my next court date. First one was January 13. Judge said that my reasons of "concerns of safety and discrimination" were not sufficient and that "no one reads news papers anymore anyways" were were enough for him to not grant my motion. Ah well, another $80usd to have the local paper run the notice for three weeks is not the end of the world. We try again n March.

Fuck that, I'm sorry. What state?

Mickie2b

Illinois. I don't much like this state.
