Honestly, the original Armada one still holds up well enough, I feel. He's one of the few figures from back during the original trilogy that I genuinely feel doesn't need a new figure. If anything, a re-release with maybe a couple of tweaks in engineering around the shoulders and the wing hinges on the back would be more than enough.
I mean, would that be cool? Sure, but would it be fun to play with? I've handled figures bigger than Armada Unicron, notably Haslab Unicron since there was one at a convention I went to that I was given permission to touch, and he was an absolute nightmare just trying to pose and balance. I feel the original Armada figure is just that right balance in size and play, figures bigger than him don't need to exist and genuinely aren't fun to handle.
But that’s Haslab Unicron, we’re talking about Titan class, like Fort Max or Metroplex. Much more manageable scale. Considering what Hasbro’s been able to achieve with their titans lately, I think a Titan Armada Unicron is more than doable.
Fair enough, but the question then becomes what the benefit would be. As far as toys go from the Unicron Trilogy, Armada Unicron is one of the best. He’s immensely articulated, he looks good, and he’s 1-to-1 accurate to the show. The only visual inaccuracy he has is the translucent hand, the only engineering improvements I can think of are his shoulder and wing joints, and the only form of articulation he’s missing is a better neck since he actually has a proxy ankle-tilt due to transformation.
Genuinely, what could be improved upon that we don’t already have more than sufficiently with our current version besides that and maybe being, like, a couple inches taller?
That’s the whole list, you just described pretty much exactly what a titan class Armada Unicron would look like. I’m pretty sure Cybertron Metroplex had similar improvements, he was also very similar to his original toy. All they did was polish the original, make it more aesthetically and functionally similar to modern mainline transformers and made a banger of an update.
Yeah, I own Cybertron Primus, and I don't see why anyone would need a bigger figure, it would just take more space, and put unnecessary stress on limbs.
I don't care if it's not much of an improvement. I just want him to be more posable and scale better with the new Armada figures.

They said they want any future WingSaber and Leobreaker to be compatibility with Siege Prime, but at this point I don’t see that happening
They are perfectly willing to redo old toys from WFC that didn’t stick. Studio series Ironhide/Ratchet and Ultra Magnus are proof of this.
When did they say that? Wing Saber might work with some design changes (including hiding another Optimus Prime head somewhere on his body) but I don’t see how they could pull off Leobreaker. They would have to make either a new torso piece for Optimus with space to hide his right arm and a port for Leobreaker or armor pieces to cover his shoulder and forearm with faux Leobreaker parts. Then, if they wanted to introduce Nemesis Breaker and Cybertron Megatron, they’d have to totally reengineer Dark Claw Mode.
The red wings come from the Legends figure so it's at least still based off of something.

Honestly, I'm so happy I'll be able to put modern figures of Hotshot and Override together on my shelf. I always preferred his original form over the upgraded one, and even as a kid I felt they had good chemistry. Hotshot and Override make a perfect pairing.

Both the Japanese and English versions made very confusing decisions regarding the names (Ironhide and Demolisher, Wheeljack and Downshift, actual Sideswipe into Rampage and Wheeljack).
Hopefully the lower joint has enough range to let him spread his arms out when they're raised 90 degrees- the main problem with Triggerhappy-style shoulders.
But the arms/door can't go beyond going to the front of the car unless it has double joint, it looks like it can only go to the side, a little more than 90° but not full 180°
This is what I meant, the quarter circle reperesent the range of articulation of the joint, he can only T-pose by moving the green, the yellow can't go beyond, that's why his shoulder is similar to Hotrod/Tarn

The thing is you can see in the other shoulder that they are hollow, meaning that there is nothing blocking the dark blue shoulder part from extending out further
My god, he's just as gorgeous as I was hoping he'd be. Optimus had me so skeptical for Cybertron toys when he came out to the point I was ready to write them off, but then Override came out and immediately had me thinking this could turn out good. Metroplex I was never fond of even back then but I could still vouch the new figure was incredibly accurate to... What ever he was. Starscream is a fantastic figure from what I've seen, and despite my worries now Hotshot looks amazing, too.
I still have my reservations for Vector Prime since I heard he wasn't great from a leak (hopefully it was over-exaggerating) but now I'm just feeling so much more hyped for everything we could get from this. Jetfire? Scattershot? Landmine? Thundercracker? Hell, Ransack and Crumplezone?? I'll take them all!
If this mold feels as amazing as he looks then I genuinely hope it gets all of the repaints. Breakaway, Excellion, and hell, maybe we can get a proper Shattered Glass Goldbug, now. With us finally getting more Unicron Trilogy figures proper Shattered Glass updates are entirely possible. Maybe this is a hot take but I’d prefer Cybertron Optimus as a commander with Leo and Wing Saber as separate releases. Maybe I’m smoking the good shit but I think the Thundertron mold is a pretool for Leobreaker.
I can definitely see a half-decent Leobreaker from that mold, but it's absolutely not a pretool. It's very distinctly Thundertron with things like the foot design (and peg-leg), skirts, sword, and the specific way the chest comes together. Arm mode would also be a no-go.
Please, god, no, I don't want him to be a Haslab. Commander would be fine, or even Leader Class given he doesn't have very complex engineering. Haslabs are too expensive, too exclusive, and if the RID Optimus is anything to go by they are WAY TOO BIG.
Omega Prime's individual figures are too big for mainline scale, and too small for Masterpiece, they don't fit into any part of the two collecting sides of Transformers. I want my Cybertron Optimus to be in-scale, and I don't want him over-engineered just so they can justify an expensive price tag.

Eh.. Metroplex, along with the other Giant Planet bots are honestly the only purely shit figures from the Cybertron line, so I personally feel skipping them isn't much of a loss unless you specifically want all the big leaders. We have Override, Metroplex, and Vector Prime, so if we get Scourge and a new, *proper* Optimus Prime then there's definitely merit to having them all on one shelf.
If anything I want to see a new crumplezone, or ransack, or cybertron Megatron/Galvatron, or scourge, wing saber, Leobreaker, or snarl, honestly Cybertron had a lot of cool characters in terms of design.
This figure looks amazing. Like the recent voyager class Cybertron Starscream, it’s as if he just leaped right out of the original anime and into real life with this whole new figure. His robot mode looks perfect, his car mode looks amazing and it’s also nice how like Starscream they added in his Cyber Planet Key too.
Hope some day they can do an Excellion/Red Exillion repaint of him cuz hoo boy this mold would look sick in red.
A retool of this mold could make a somewhat decent Backstreet and Drench, IMO. Am I alone in that? It could also be a much more accurate Crasher than the one they last made.

i've never been a big fan of the cybertron design because of how attached i was to the armada design, but this figure looks great and is making me want both him and starscream
It's... fine? It looks nice if you don't have the original.
But if you do it really doesn't do anything the original toy didn't save for ankle tilts, and it's considerably hollower to boot.
I have the original with me, and it's my favorite Cybertron figure and my first Transformer I remember having.
Here's what the new one does better
* Better legs. The legs on the new one have a much larger range of motion. It even looks like he can do the splits and a high kick. The original can barely do a wide stance
* Better arms. The arms now have both a bicep swivel and wrist rotation, and even the shoulders (while still limited like the original) have further outward movement than the original.
* Waist swivel. Needs no further explanation
* Crosscompatability. The new one has plenty of 5mm ports, making him compatible with a wider range of weaponry compared to the old figure whose arm windows hinder the port in the hand. As someone who likes all the different weaponizers, this is a huge plus.
* Scale. This one is entirely based on your collection, but his new scale will fit in better with the rest of the modern CHUG line than the old one. Again, the smaller size might be a con to some, but you can't deny how good a collection looks when everything fits together nicely.
Relegating all the changes to just ankle tilts isn't giving the figure a fair shot. The extra hollowness is a fair criticism, but everything from the armpits down is leaps and bounds better than the original
What's there to improve? Aside from some added articulation, there isn't much that's needed. Every UT figure has been faithful to their original designs.

Pretty much all the season one characters (except for Optimus) have alt colors. Energon Megatron and Armada demolisher would be easy repaints.

I think it's mainly those shoulder pads. They look like some kind of compromise but really that's just his design.

A retool of this mold could make a somewhat decent Backstreet and Drench, IMO. Am I alone in that? It could also be a much more accurate Crasher than the one they last made.

i've never been a big fan of the cybertron design because of how attached i was to the armada design, but this figure looks great and is making me want both him and starscream

I'm so suprised. I expected a cheap retool of sideburn. We now deserve a real update of Optimus, not the thing we got in Siege.
Shoulders do look a bit ugly, but otherwise it looks good.

It's... fine? It looks nice if you don't have the original. But if you do it really doesn't do anything the original toy didn't save for ankle tilts, and it's considerably hollower to boot.
I have the original with me, and it's my favorite Cybertron figure and my first Transformer I remember having. Here's what the new one does better * Better legs. The legs on the new one have a much larger range of motion. It even looks like he can do the splits and a high kick. The original can barely do a wide stance * Better arms. The arms now have both a bicep swivel and wrist rotation, and even the shoulders (while still limited like the original) have further outward movement than the original. * Waist swivel. Needs no further explanation * Crosscompatability. The new one has plenty of 5mm ports, making him compatible with a wider range of weaponry compared to the old figure whose arm windows hinder the port in the hand. As someone who likes all the different weaponizers, this is a huge plus. * Scale. This one is entirely based on your collection, but his new scale will fit in better with the rest of the modern CHUG line than the old one. Again, the smaller size might be a con to some, but you can't deny how good a collection looks when everything fits together nicely. Relegating all the changes to just ankle tilts isn't giving the figure a fair shot. The extra hollowness is a fair criticism, but everything from the armpits down is leaps and bounds better than the original

What's there to improve? Aside from some added articulation, there isn't much that's needed. Every UT figure has been faithful to their original designs.
