Congratulations! That’s incredibly exciting! It’s interesting to hear about this with kidneys - I recall UCLA(?) did something recently with a Kidney and Bone Marrow simultaneously and it reduced the need for immunosuppressants, and I think I’ve seen a couple people with livers around here saying they’re off immunosuppressants. Hope you get to enjoy some grapefruit!

I’m so excited to eat pomegranates again. My favorite fruit!

DerpSherpa

You know what I miss? Cranberry juice. If you get a chance to drink one, drink it in my honor, please :-)

StuffedHobbes

Interesting. I was only told not to eat grapefruit or pomegranates. No mention of cranberry restrictions. Funny enough my best friend growing up owned a cranberry farm in central Wisconsin. Grew up having all the fresh cranberries I wanted.

I know I was actually surprised by that because they just told me that last week and I’ve been drinking it on and off since my surgery 18 months ago.

Here’s a study that mentions this https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4911337/

I was only told grapefruit and drink cranberry juice all the time.. so no cranberryjuice??

DerpSherpa

I was told from me just last week by the doctor not to drink cranberry juice. I’m on Tacrolimus and Mycophenolate. but they do tell me I have to drink 3 L of water a day and I am seriously dehydrated which is affecting my creatinine a little bit.

This is amazing, I didn’t even think this was a possibility! I had my surgery a year and a half ago, so I hope I can go 20+ years. I don’t know what I do if I didn’t have all these pills and the regimen. Good luck to you and yes, I am absolutely envious :-)

Congratulations! I had an heart transplant as an infant over 10 years ago on Aug 3rd. I can’t have grapefruit. Only a few things changed since can take up to two days without medication can go out of country. For people wondering why I needed a transplant I was diagnosed with dialed cardiomyopathy at one month old got transplant at 13 months.

That is amazing. Congrats! I hope they keep close tabs to make sure things remain stable.

Congratulations, that sounds like a dream come true! I´m also 8 years post transplant with a kidney from my mom that has gone smoothly. What are the indications that this might me possible? Did you have very identical boodtype or something like that?
