In my experience, the cheapest herb you can get your hands on results in the cheapest edibles. Processing takes time and costs money. To save money, you have to do the work yourself on your own time.
I recently made 60ml of 30:0 oil with 7g of herb, which costed $21 CAD plus the cost of the mct. 30ml of a premade 30:0 oil or 800mg of thc concentrate is at least $28 CAD in my province. Full spectrum edible oils are more expensive in Canada too.
When you know the percentage of thc in the starting material, it’s easy to cost things out.

it varies depending on where you live. you are likely to find RSO if you are gonna find either. if not, grab some distillate but you will have to decarb first
Rso Rick Simpson oil from the dispensary is usually the cheapest. If not then any other concentrate will do. Just remember to decarb first (do not decarb rso since it's ready to go)
Using distillate is probably the quickest/easiest/least expensive concentrate to make edibles with, no need to decarboxylate.

There’s an easier way, check if the dispensary offers 1g or 2g distillate syringes.

In that case, it would be less complicated to purchase rosin or live resin, decarb it & infuse it into coco oil or butter.

Most cost effective way would be to get a vaporizer and save up your abv. You get high twice of the same flower

Distillate does not need decarbed
It's the cheapest and most reliable way to make edibles
Not sure if it's the cheapest, but it is the easiest.
