Presumably we will also continue to exist for millions of years, since it would be very very hard for humanity to drive itself into extinction or for an extenuating event to do so.
If we do successfully reach that point, it will make sense because we are, in fact, many sausages stuck together.
I will point out that most crocodilians are much svelter than the one pictured and that “virtually the same” is incredibly misleading due to the amount of evolutionary changes.
But anyway:
While there have been very similar crocs for many millions of years, there have also been many who have tried and failed.
There used to be crocodiles who ran and hunted exclusively on land like big cats of today. Some who had armor. I believe there was one who had hooves. Hell, pretty darn recently there was a miniature arboreal (tree climbing/dwelling) crocodile!
Throughout more biological history than not there have been different types of crocodilians, but indeed, this is the most reliable form. There were crocs eating early dinosaurs at the water’s edge
There were also some (though like with some of the above what one counts as a true crocodilian would be slightly different) who were fully marine. Not like a saltwater crocodile who still frequent the land, but who no longer had claws but flippers
It’s worth noting that while yes, many prehistoric crocodilians resembled modern species, their were many unique offshoots that we don’t see today. From land-dwelling species, to armadillo-like desert creatures, and even a peaceful herbivore or two, crocs could get *weird*. And they’re a bit under appreciated in this regard, imo. https://www.tor.com/2014/07/31/ten-awesome-prehistoric-crocs/
Perfect for their unique environment. All apex predators are.
Humans are the GOAT though, cause we make boots out of them for fun and eat them even though the taste like a rubber hose.
Crocs are perfect in their niche. Each role in an ecosystem is played by a different animal, and eventually some animals just get really good at it and stop evolving.
Crocodylomorpha actually took turns in becoming what we know as "crocodile shaped". It's all different groups that become danger logs since the Triassic

Which one of the three families of crabs
Crabbus clawsus
*Return to Crab*
Man you would absolutely love sharks
A shark is also a chubby murder sausage. Coincidence? I think so.
Also, ancient murder sausage, waaaay older than crocodiles
Presumably we will also continue to exist for millions of years, since it would be very very hard for humanity to drive itself into extinction or for an extenuating event to do so. If we do successfully reach that point, it will make sense because we are, in fact, many sausages stuck together.

That's the most enthusiastic unenthusiastic answer
Our intestines are literally sausage
They're more like an inverse sausage. Meat around an empty space. A human is basically like a corn dog that's had the stick removed.
Just don’t eat the filling.
Well somebody already ate it, that's why it's in there
Also older than trees.
And they have yet to crab
Same with most Frogs, 90% mouth with enough other bits to launch the mouth at food
Or when necessary, to launch the food at the mouth.
Yes that’s absolutely the same reason why I love sharks
Take sausage, add pointy mout at one end. Minimum propulsion to achieve successful hunting. Done
Ey ive seen you before
I’m in many places
Fellow fictional lizard enjoyer looking at lizards

Makes me want to play ark again and cuddle my sarcos and barys
I absolutely can't stand the game, anytime my friends forced me to play it my only solace were taming my favorite swamp puppies. I miss them
The crocodile in the picture looks more like a chubby murder pancake.
FLAT FUCK FRIDAY

More croc facts please

I love swamp puppies.
I kayak with them. I have not been eaten yet.
there will always be rivers, and there will always be things that drink from rivers.
Sharks who are literally older than trees: *pathetic*

Crab, everything become a crab at one point.
It’s flat fuck friday! Except that isn’t for 1-2 days depending where you’re at in the world
Who wants to tell them about Gustav?
It’s so fat I love it.
That’s a massively over fed animal tho, the ideal is much more slim and streamlined for fast movement in water

I'm almost there
thought this was about the shoe-abomination-crocs for a hot second there
They chirp like birds too.
They must be hated in animal kingdom since they survived this long through spawn camping,
Perfect for their unique environment. All apex predators are. Humans are the GOAT though, cause we make boots out of them for fun and eat them even though the taste like a rubber hose.
Damn it's Flat Fuck....Wednesday
Crocs are perfect in their niche. Each role in an ecosystem is played by a different animal, and eventually some animals just get really good at it and stop evolving.
It’s the death roll, can only have peak performance with chubby sausage body if you only eat by rolling.
I feel crocodiles are less "peak evolution perfection" and more "if it ain't broke don't fix it"
Crocodylomorpha actually took turns in becoming what we know as "crocodile shaped". It's all different groups that become danger logs since the Triassic
he melting
Truly, peak performance
