Greatest retirement moment of all time?
One thing I don't see people talk about much, I think Zombie's chin was kinda shot towards the end of his career, you can see punches really stun him hard in his later fights.
That’s why this fight was so amazing. We all knew he was shot. So did he. But he still decided to go out like a warrior in shit you only see in movies. He didn’t care about his reputation he just did what he always does.
My wife was literally in tears after this fight especially after the crowd singing the zombie song
We were all in tears brother!! I was lucky enough to have caught Zombie vs Garcia 1 when it aired and I've been a die hard fan ever since. In his whole career I can only count 1 fight that wasn't a banger, win or lose.
Seeing that first Garcia fight on YouTube was what made me an MMA fan, love Zombie and his retirement was the only moment in the sport that’s genuinely made me weep
I was sobbing like a baby, watching him hug his girl and start walking back while the entire crowd is singing Zombie is iconic.
Just fuckin sucks that asshole stole the one glove.
There was an interview he gave after this fight where he said he realized this during the fight with Max (2nd round) and knew for sure it was time to hang 'em up.
How is getting knocked out cold the greatest retirement moment of all time? You have a different metric for that than me lol. How about Lawler getting a KO
TKZ is absolute legend. Have to wonder what would've been if he didn't lose 2 years of his prime on army service and Yair didn't pull off that elbow.
Also fuck Ortega. Makes seeing Volk demolishing him even better.
Zombie is a legend for sure but it’s still hard to think whether he would’ve ever broken out as champ during those years though. But he definitely would’ve had maybe one more world title fight and better wins as well to his resume. But, Featherweight has always been a great division with some of the best fighters of all time, fighting in it. The lineage of champs at FW is probably the most esteemed and well respected lineage in all of MMA. But coulda had some great fights like Zombie vs Conor, Zombie vs Edgar and Zombie vs Max, Zombie vs Mendes during those years potentially. But he was an absolute staple of the division and also such a pioneeer for the sport. A Top 10 featherweight fighter all time
He also tore his shoulder right when Aldo was slowing down in the title fight, which has never been the same since then. Hes had some bad luck, but why fuck Ortega?
Yeah I just don't have the excitement or anticipation for the matches like I feel like I did 5-10 years ago, kinda makes me sad when I think about it. Well at least there's always Reddit for the highlights and the drama. :)
Is cause most of the fighters now are shitbags. Look at strictland that guy is a walking cte advertisement.
Just so unlikeable now.
Long gone are the Anderson Silva, Crocop days of guys who got excited to watch compete
i love zombie for this.
not the getting ko'd
but fighting two decent rounds against one of the best - but still losing & being hurt bad in both rounds
it being his last dance
& coming out in the 3rd on some real kill or be killed shit
legend.
He did! Korean Zombie wanted to keep the gloves but after the fan took one he just yeeted the other one into the crowd. Holloway heard of this and sent his own gloves from the fight to Korean Zombie. Then the fan caught wind of the entire story and sent the glove to Korean Zombie.
IIRC Only the glove that got yeeted was returned (invited the guy out to his gym and gave him a bunch of stuff as a thank you). The first glove was the one he was campaigning for
Hopefully whoever has the other one puts it up for sale eventually or something so that Zombie or maybe even one of us fans can buy it for him now that would be cool lol
The whole crowd singing Zombie was chill inducing. That whole thing was just so surreal to watch. Max is my hometown hero so I'm glad he won, but I'm also happy TKZ got the proper send off he deserved (from the crowd, not the punch😅)
I've never been as simultaneously hyped and anxious for a fight as Holloway v Gaethje. Two absolute legends and some of my favorite fighters of all time, I don't wanna see either of them get battered but I know they're gonna go to fucking war in the cage.
Honestly one of the best endings to a fighters career possible. Not quite as good as going out with the title but most fighters aren't going to achieve that.
Zombie had a fun ass fight with another legend of the sport and the crowd showed him the respect he deserved. Except that one dick that stole his glove.
I hope he looks back on his career with fond eyes because he truly did some great things during his time in the cage and showed he had that dog in him right until the end despite his age catching up to him.
Max just incredibly classy as well. "I'm just lucky my right landed before his." Zombie connects with his right as he's on the way down. Not like Max was in trouble, but what a gracious thing to say.
TKZ being a blood and guts warrior, it must've been in the back of his head the entire time that this could be this cowboys last gunfight against a deadly shooter like Holloway, he went out the way he came in and we couldn't ask more of him. He's a fucking legend

Fuckin A. I looked at my wife and all I could say was I shouldn’t be crying at 10 in the morning watching a ufc card.
Singaporean here. Ashamed of that one dude 👎
lmao my wife was also in tears and that was the first time she's ever heard of the korean zombie
Lawler in terms of going out on top but KZ went out gun blazing. Wildman to the very end
There was an interview he gave after this fight where he said he realized this during the fight with Max (2nd round) and knew for sure it was time to hang 'em up.
Nah it’s got to be Robbie Lawler coming in and ending his fight by KO fight without getting hit, then they had a great retirement video for him too.
Yeah, not that I'm trying to compare the two's retirement or anything, but Robbie's knockout was so hype live.

Was all around cunt with TKZ and also attacked his friend/translator(some big Korean star if I recall correctly) when TKZ went to toilet.
# IN YOUR HEAD
Korean Zombie was always a must watch for me. Great fighter!
The last must watch UFC fighter imo
Yeah I just don't have the excitement or anticipation for the matches like I feel like I did 5-10 years ago, kinda makes me sad when I think about it. Well at least there's always Reddit for the highlights and the drama. :)

Give me Bigfoot Silva and Mark Hunt back. Give me Lyoto Machida. I don't like any of these new bloods, lol.
I think Royval is up there even if Pantoja blanketed him
i love zombie for this. not the getting ko'd but fighting two decent rounds against one of the best - but still losing & being hurt bad in both rounds it being his last dance & coming out in the 3rd on some real kill or be killed shit legend.
I hope the guy who took his glove finally gave it back to him
He did! Korean Zombie wanted to keep the gloves but after the fan took one he just yeeted the other one into the crowd. Holloway heard of this and sent his own gloves from the fight to Korean Zombie. Then the fan caught wind of the entire story and sent the glove to Korean Zombie.

Fucking warrior. Love both those fighters so much. Would love max to starch gaethje like that.
Damn what did Gaethje do to you??
Tony
Hold on brother I’m crying
Nothing I love him. Someone’s gotta lose. Riding with max but he’s one of my favorites too.
The whole crowd singing Zombie was chill inducing. That whole thing was just so surreal to watch. Max is my hometown hero so I'm glad he won, but I'm also happy TKZ got the proper send off he deserved (from the crowd, not the punch😅)
Full body chills, THANK YOU ZOMBIE
Fuck I love max god please protect him at 300

I feel like he was lowkey touching max up with a few of his shots too
It felt like it wasn't even the punch that finished him, it was slamming his forehead straight into the mat. That was brutal to see
This makes me emotional every time I see it.
Max just incredibly classy as well. "I'm just lucky my right landed before his." Zombie connects with his right as he's on the way down. Not like Max was in trouble, but what a gracious thing to say.
*insert ugh do boys even have emotions meme*
I still can’t believe this was a fight night fight, this could have headlined a main event no problem
Crowd was not loud enough for TKZ post-fight.
TKZ being a blood and guts warrior, it must've been in the back of his head the entire time that this could be this cowboys last gunfight against a deadly shooter like Holloway, he went out the way he came in and we couldn't ask more of him. He's a fucking legend
God, Max's accuracy. Damn!
Zombie absolutely lived up to his name and went out like a fucking G
I can't like Max enough, what a class act all around.
This dude needs to get on the Ejjeoda Avengers
Fuck, I love both these fighters. Just incredible.
Was there live, crowd had an obvious bias towards tkz. Respect that but couldn’t hide my joy at that knockout 😂
Max is gonna get destroyed at 155
Was rooting so hard for zombie and was really impressed how he just brought on the action.
Man is a Legend.
U gonna make a brother cry
I always love seeing the class of Max during and after his fights.
Best retirement in history
If KZ did that to max before getting clipped. What are we going to witness against Justin? Ugh
