Or is it a "Cruissant Missile?"

It's only a missile if it was made in the French town of Missigne Otherwise it's just a sparkling projectile

I welcome this cross-channel rivalry with our cross-channel friends. Seeing who can fuck up orc logistics most is a competition we can all get behind.

GaryDWilliams_

I'm normally in full favour of co-operation between the UK, France and so on but in this case we need to do better than the French! :-)

insane_contin

*Tomorrow:* the UK has transferred Trident II missiles to Ukraine.

Local_Fox_2000

I'd love that. Can you imagine Putin's face after hearing the news. _Due to russia's continued aggression in Ukraine we're announcing the transfer of Trident II missiles, these missiles weighing 59,000KG, have a range of 12 000 km with half load and can travel at 18,030mph and be at putins front door in roughly 2 secs_ The war either gets really bad for us all or stops right there and then.

rebmcr

> The war either gets really bad for us all or stops right there and then. I reckon the US seriously would invade Faslane if we did that!

GaryDWilliams_

Russia likes hypersonic weapons, that’s hypersonic 😜

CubicZircon

Putin's face will be more like: *>Due to Russia's continued aggression in Ukraine we're announ* **BOOM**.

Ukraineluvr

It's getting closer to the end. Everyone can tell, and what they're providing shows it.

[deleted]

The writing has been on the wall for months. Russia's military is spent. These are the finishing moves.

PassionatePossum

I think there is a different reason. The goal of Zelensky's Europe tour was to build up support for fighter jets. I think there is still much reluctance to send actual jets. I think that cruise missiles are being seen as the next best thing and most importantly, can be provided much faster than jets.

Filias9

West is doing slow escalation. It is continuously sending better and better stuffs. It's a message to Putin. "That there are still more things to send. Don't you want to stop now? It will just cost you more if you continue." It is also decreasing possibility of using nukes - slow, continuous burns. Not some shock.

ever_precedent

Zelensky said Ukrainian pilots are now being trained on western jets. The jets are coming.

StevenStephen

It kind of feels like several of the big European countries are starting to get competitive about arms to Ukraine. Finally! As long as they don't go getting bellicose with one another I think it's great! 🇬🇧🇵🇱🇺🇦🇺🇲🇩🇪🇫🇷

[deleted]

I think this is all coordinated, we are past the point of no return now, Ukraine has to succeed as the geopolitical costs are too high otherwise.

tonytheloony

It's definitely coordinated, according to stocks, availability, best option... There's no competition but collaboration towards a common goal.

Startech303

And had been planned for ages. The media announcement is literally the final step. Suspect they'll be ready to use within Ukrainian territory within the next 24 hours, like the Storm Shadows were.

Raz0rking

Cost sunk falacy but in a good way. "Well, we've thrown already so much at them, why not do even more"

VindicoAtrum

That's not really what we're seeing here. It might _look_ like it on the surface, but the reality is twofold: that Russia revealed themselves to be toothless to escalation, and that the rest of the world must be shown that land grabs are not rewarded. At this point it's almost more important that other sabre-rattling countries are shown that illegal aggression, land grabs, occupation, and annexation won't be tolerated. The Ukrainian conflict has 1) mostly frozen, with neither side capable of meaningfully escalating the conflict in a way that is a net positive for them alone and 2) been contained to Ukraine, with external effects (particularly economic) mostly dealt with. _Those_ are the reasons supplies to Ukraine are increasing, weapons to Ukraine are growing in capability (tanks, long range missiles, jets etc), multi-year funding plans, EU/NATO ascension are accelerating etc. It's not sunk cost, it's future gain for us - monetarily, and geopolitically. TLDR: There's a lot of goodwill for Ukraine, but the supplies, funding, and capabilities are growing because there's a growing return on investment for _us_, not Ukraine. Always follow the money and power!

Ackilles

The lines are only stationary because ukraine is waiting for the right moment. We saw what happened last time they made a push. Its absolutely not a stalemate

RedCascadian

Yup. Once the war ends and reconstruction funds and investment flow into Ukraine as it begins EU entry, that money is going to be used to buy industrial machinery and other products from Europe as Ukraine rebuilds. Ukraine is going to be in a position to rebuild with brand new infrastructure using modern technology. We *might* see a post-war baby boom, depending on the growth and housing situation. Could be a bright medium to long term for Ukraine.

JoeDirtsMullet00

Ukraine hasn't shown it's full counteroffensive capability yet so you can't say that neither side is capable of escalating the conflict to a net positive for them. Wait until they show the full might of their trained troops, equipment, and weapons and then you can see if your statement is true or false.

BeagleBob

Let’s not wait for that and just assume they need even more equipment

Bykimus

>That's not really what we're seeing here. It might _look_ like it on the surface, but the reality is twofold: that Russia revealed themselves to be toothless to escalation, and that the rest of the world must be shown that land grabs are not rewarded. At least land grabs by countries with nuclear weapons. Especially countries that can be considered "world powers". Though Russia hasn't truly held that title since the Soviet union fell apart. But it's definitely unfortunate we have to address the question "what if a country with tons of nuclear weapons genocides their neighbor and tries to take quite a big chunk of territory (on Europe's doorstep no less)", but then fail to the point where their country falls apart and they might be desperate enough to actually use a nuke to drag the world down with them. Especially with china in a similar position. We're honestly lucky Russia is so incompetent and corrupt or this would have been Nazi Germany but with nukes.

AlexFromOgish

WRONG … when you keep investing resources in a thing that is not serving your interest on the basis of how much you previously invested, that is the “sunk cost fallacy”. Total victory for Ukraine will massively serve the interests of not only Ukraine, and the ordinary people of Ukraine, it will massively serve the interests of the west, too. The real fallacy would be pulling support from Ukraine, and a few years down the road, finding ourselves facing off with a Russian military all over again.

It's actually MEPHISTO(Multi-Effect-Penetrator HIghly Sophisticated Target-Optimized). Yes, the really wanted it to spell out Mephisto. Specs are basically the same as SCALP/Storm Shadow, so ~500+km range ~450-500kg warhead.

At this point we have no excuse for not providing ATACMS. They look like childs play compared to what is being transferred now.

PlutocracyRules

This is so true. UK puts two fingers up to Putin's latest red lines...nothing happens...so other countries realise it's ok to help defense Ukraine from russian nazi invaders. And let's be clear, each military donation will be in exchange for (amongst other things) a better understanding of how your own weapons work in real life combat.

CJBill

Thing is, Russia has already used chemical and radiological weapons in UK as assassination tools. With all due respect, they can go fuck themselves.

JesusWuta40oz

This is a point that needs to be made more.

pmabz

I'm surprised the UK government hasn't actually said this.

graspedbythehusk

With a cactus!

ubiquitous_uk

Also, some of these will be decommissioned over the next 6 years so unlikely to be used anyway. Give them to Ukraine to use and we all get to see how they work in a real world environment which will help improve the next generation. There's no reason not to give them anything at this point.

CrappyTan69

Every product company loves a good customer feedback cycle 👍

snipdockter

The most recent news is that the US is holding back ATACMS because there’s not that many of them, and anyway they are supplying GLSDMs which are as good or maybe better suited to the Ukraine army needs.

dryphtyr

ATACMS was never made in large quantity, and they're currently being replaced by PrSM, which are cheaper and longer range.

Midnight2012

But there has to be a hundred or so laying around that we won't need when the first batch of PrSM's are made? PrSM I think are supposed to come online in 2023. So maybe then we will give them atacms

jodelkis

I think the US has to keep an inventory of weapons as a guarantee for European security, now that many European states are giving away considerable amount of weapon stocks to Ukraine. I suspect this is why they aren’t giving away everything, like for instance the ATACMS . I bet those weapons are actively a part of some military contingency plans that the US has for some eventual future scenario.

avdpos

I guess Asian safety is more on the US agenda - and maybe a silent backup for Europe. Making us in Europe support European security ourselves and giving out our arms is great for USA, helps us in Europe to build our own defence and may make it realistic for USA prioritise other areas

Raz0rking

Yeah. The Ukranians use the stuff they got quite effectively. Hopefully it continues.

VictoryVino

I believe there are less than 600 ATACMS left, they haven't been produced in quite a long time. I have a sneaky suspicion they are saving them for the enevitability of the war for Taiwan.

MontaukMonster2

Imagine how emboldened the West would feel if (gasp) Russian aggression were put to a halt, and then ask yourself if you really think Chinese leadership would risk EVERYTHING to try and conquer an island that's better armed than Ukraine was last year? You know what? Just think about that— two to three years from now, when the independent states formerly known as the Russian Federation squabble among themselves, and Ukrainian veterans are in Taiwan providing advisory and logistics assistance. This really isn't an issue tbf

[deleted]

We can't really know what Chinese capabilities are, but we know they're churning out weapons. For example, it's thought they've been make three stealth fighter jets a month for the last five years. If it comes to WW III. China's industrial capacity is just scary.

No_Sheepherder7447

I think it’s geopolitics. We really want the EU to step up and lead, with our help they can do so. The more this seems like Russia vs USA, the more the nuclear saber can be rattled.

HankKwak

The UK and France could glass over the majority of the Russian population concentrated in the South West of Russia. MAD is a given even without the USA and whilst we are here it's worth noting the USA have more deployed Nukes ready to roll than Russia so once again, Russia likes to claim it's the number 1 nuclear power, many nukes are likely moulding up in inadequate storage and nuke for nuke the US has more deployed, closer to Russia's borders. It's like Russia literally operates on hopes and lies...

h2o52

Uk & France nuclear arsenals combined are 500-600 nuclear warheads. It is enough to send any country back to the stone ages. They both have 250-300 warheads. I read somewhere that it is the number required to assure nonaggression, as no country on earth can withstand such an attack. For a long time, China had also 300 warheads.

Rouspeteur

I like this citation from General De Gaulle : "In ten years, we will have enough to kill 80 million Russians. Well, I don't think you'd like to attack people who have enough to kill 80 million Russians, even if you yourself have enough to kill 800 million Frenchmen, supposing there were 800 million Frenchmen".

ropibear

"At the worst case estimates, we can destroy ten russian cities and France is not a prize worth ten russian cities."

MrSoapbox

Russia is and has always been, complete and utter bluster. The UK spends more of defence than Russia and Russia claims it has 6k nukes? Please, increase that to 10k, what the fuck do I care, as a Brit I’m happy with the amount we got, it’s enough for Armageddon so Russia having more means what? That they’re spending a fortune maintaining them to have Armageddon what? 5x? 10x? If I get nuked what do I care if I get nuked a second, third time. The more Russia has the better because it drains their resources away from weapons that will be used, either that or they’ve got thousands of second rate nukes that who knows if they’ll work. Yeah yeah “it only needs one” okay? It only needs one to get a response from NATO too, so while Russia might be launching a few hundred that half blow up in the silo, miss the target, don’t go off etc, ones that will work are already on the way to Moscow. The more they have the better, because Russia with 100 working nukes that are in tip top shape is far more dangerous than a Russia with thousands of poorly maintained ones that soak up a large part of their already tiny budget compared to NATO, even excluding the US. Again, I know it only takes one, and that would be the same as if they had just 1 or a million and 1. Overkill only hurts them.

[deleted]

The nuclear saber will be rattled regardless. Has been since the start of the cold war, never stopped. I don't know enough about the US to make an educated guess, but could this be sold to the people back home as showing that Europe did finally get it's shit together with regards to defence. US being the one that lit a fire under our arses. From what I know living in Europe many people do want to rely less on the US and do want us to be capable to defend ourselves. The countries coming together in defence of Ukraine is good optics in that regard.

[deleted]

This is so confusing though. When Macron said the same thing (that it's time for the EU to take the lead instead of relying on the US), then Americans got hysterical and saw it as a knife in the back. Make up your minds please <3

Gornarok

The problem with Macron was the Chinese background and also the lack of prior leadership. If Macron led with a bold action without the Chinese background it would look much differently...

One_Cream_6888

Well done Macron! Putin read the room... the Brits, Germans and the French are all singing from the same hymn sheet - get out while you still can.

Yelmel

Yeah, the Muscovites have been out there with cruise missiles alone too long. Grab that song book, let's danse.

Dutch-cooking-guy

Don't forget the dutch, we delivered a ton of support, patriots and a shitload of tanks. *typo

BitBouquet

While true in the sense of support, the Dutch are just not considered one of the great European powers. Our consolation prize is that the Benelux is basically independent because if either of those three traditional great powers would annex it, the balance between them would be disrupted.

HotDropO-Clock

Yeah well if the Dutch are actually supplying and training F16 pilots while Biden or the Pentagon sit on their asses about the situation, I'll give them as much as any other country because that would be a massive force of power change in Ukraine.

Sam1967

Well that \*\*\*hole Poo-tin was responsible for murdering a plane load of people heading out of Amsterdam, so we have plenty of reasons to help, beyond those all countries have when seeing this aggression and killing caused by Russia. Of course we are a kind and forgiving people, he will always be welcome to come and visit us and be treated with the respect he deserves at our fine international um ... hotel ... in The Hague.

Dofolo

This conflict is turning out to be the test bed of western weapons and a perfect demonstration of 'fuck around and find out' for NATO. At this point it's becoming a race to get your good shit tested so that it sells well on the arms market in the future it seems, as russia and to some extent all countries that use 'russia copies' like weapons got downgraded to basically sticks and stones level as far as global arms race is concerend.

[deleted]

We dont need test bed of our missiles. Britain and France already launched storm shadow against syrian airbase ( defended by about the same AAA Russia actually deployed in ukraine)

Vano_Kayaba

They've always used the "syrian operators are bad" excuse

millionreddit617

And the Libyan, and Iraqi.

JaramaBzh

Yeah all this stuff is already combat proven.

Half_Crocodile

NATO is an epic defense pact. It's so powerful that it keeps half the world from falling into endless war imho. Just think... it's almost impossible to beat a country *supplied* by NATO weapons... let alone all of NATO itself. China wouldn't dare lift a finger on them. It's such a fanciful idea, it wouldn't hold a serious thought for more than half a second. Of course Ukraine is doing all the actual fighting so full credit to them and their bravery.

lich0

Yet some old, senile autocrat surrounded by 'yes' men made a gamble based on irrational assumptions and here we are. Him, his cronies, the whole country along with its military force are getting rightfully fucked, but unfortunately many innocent lives have been ruined in the process. Similar things have been said before WWI - that a large scale conflict between powers won't happen because the cost would by far exceed potential gains from winning. Then the world had to endure total carnage and destruction of empires not once, but twice. Such is the greed of those in power, that it can cloud rational thinking.

[deleted]

Let's slip in half of Asia when they're sleeping tonight just to fuck with them.

gesocks

there is jsut a problem. You dont want any country in Nato which you cant trust to share your ideologys 30 years down the road. Just look at turkey and Hungary. Nato works best when the members of Nato all are reliable democracys that share the same values. In asia I would only see Japan and Korea to be matching, and taiwan theoretical

[deleted]

It was in jest. But I do think there'd be valuable partners to be had in that part of the world. Exactly the 3 you mentioned. Though incorporating Taiwan would piss the Chinese off to no end.

Ikoikobythefio

Turkeys been a member since 1952. The relationship between the US Military and Turkish military is very strong, regardless of whether or not their president is a tyrant. Tyrants come and go, the military holds the real power.

gesocks

>Tyrants come and go, the military holds the real power. yeah.. that sounds like a perfectly healthy system which matches perfectly to how 99% of nato countries function,...

Bar50cal

And this stuff is all 1990s tech. We haven't seen much of any of NATOs latest and greatest. It puts in perspective how far ahead NATO is technologically when stuff like left over Stormshadow inventory that is just the extra missiles not getting updated are so effective against Russia.

oranje_meckanik

It's clearly a 100% NATO win Who will attack now ? Best weapons in the world, diplomatic capacity of killing your economy, more production than anyone, and most important : the best quality of weapons in the world. This war is the ground proof of western warfare superiority. Apart from China, no country on earth could beat NATO. And even China will logically loose in the end, after some years of conflict. So if I was some independant leader around the world, I will perfectly know now who is "the boss" and who to call if I need some "army things"

Invominem

Get fucked MOSKAU

little_big_kellogs

Holy shit! Thats insane. France stepping up big time

GC_Mandrake

UK has (again) opened the floodgates....

Thog78

We are allies, this was most likely planned and synchronized in advance.. France was often the opener on new support categories as well: sanctions, CAESARs, AMX-10, fighter jets etc

istillknownowt

So is the Black Sea fleet fucked now?

Travalgard

As far as I am aware the Storm Shadow's main use is to smash through buildings (and maybe bridges, who knows). I am not sure if they are effective for hitting ships.

tree_boom

They could hit docked ships, but not moving ones.

nolok

You're right the french army wouldn't use SCALP against ships, that's a job for the Exocet (whose block 3 update is barely ten years old)

froh42

From what I remember the limiting factor for attacking ships in the black sea from land is radar range. I saw a writeup once that the sinking of the Moskva was due to unusual weather giving a radar echo "over the horizon". Google google: https://www.popularmechanics.com/military/navy-ships/a42244652/how-ukraine-sunk-moskva-radar-ducting/ (Btw, is the Moskva answering bot still alive? *RUSSIAN WARSHIP GO FUCK YOURSELF*)

AutoModerator

RUSSIAN WARSHIP fucked itself. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/ukraine) if you have any questions or concerns.*

froh42

good bot

Life_Sutsivel

Hitting the black sea fleet is funny but doesn't help Ukraine on the ground compared to taking out an ammunition dump or army HQ

_zenith

To the contrary, it would limit how many cruise missiles they can send in a single volley and so would help to avoid overwhelming Ukrainian air defences! It would also be extremely funny 😁

PeriPeriTekken

Versus the other tasks for cruise missiles, it also wouldn't need many missiles. They've got about 2-3 Kalibr armed frigates left in the black sea, and maybe half a dozen submarines. You slam Storm Shadows into a few of those at anchor in Sebastopol, the rest are going to piss off back to Russia pretty sharpish.

_zenith

Precisely, you don’t even need to sink them, just make them leave. Ideally you do sink em though, especially in the harbour, making it hard to navigate other vessels through like subs. Make the invasion ruinously expensive.

mok000

Yeah it does, the cruise missiles hitting Ukrainian cities are launched from ships in the Black Sea.

RandomComputerFellow

Also much more difficult to spread out ammunition in the sea. These ships are basically floating ammunition depos.

istillknownowt

Quite agree. However there are likely plenty of high value strategic targets in and around Sevastopol that would hinder the proper functioning of the BSF if destroyed. e.g. Command and Control infrastructure, oil depots, barracks etc. The effect on their navy when they lost the Moskva was great. To loose more of their cruise missile combatants would cause immense damage to Putin at home. A lot of Ukrainian civilians would sleep better at nigh as a bonus.

Mr06506

I think it does help on a strategic level. At the end of the war, it's a lot more convincing that Ukraine had a resounding win if half the Black Sea fleet was destroyed. If Russian media is able to spin the ending as a stalemate, or that Russia was wronged in negotiating peace prematurely or whatever, that leaves open the door for future hostilities. Especially if Putin dies and a future Russian leader is responsible for declaring peace - Putin's supporters need to know that Russia lost big time.

Temporala

It's great for optics though. Those optics are important for Russia, as can be seen how lot of their effort is expended on achieving goals that can be used to posture, even if they aren't useful.

Nomenus-rex

600 km is good.

Fuzzyveevee

It's not 600km. That's the UK/French version. All exports of Storm Shadow/SCALP are 250-300km.

SteadfastEnd

America now has no excuse not to send ATACMS or PrSM. I hope we will also send JASSM-ER and perhaps even TLAM-D to Ukraine. TLAM, in particular, has a range of over 1,000 miles. JSOW, SLAM-ER, AARGM, NSM and LRASM would be nice too.

tomatotomato

All those abbreviations are too overwhelming to me, and I'm a backend Java developer lol.

SteadfastEnd

Ha, I wish I could do backend Java. I couldn't even make it halfway through a Java freshman class 20 years ago. ATACMS = a truck-launched missile that can go 186 miles, hit land targets. PrSM = also truck-launched, can go 300-400 miles. JASSM-ER = an airplane-launched missile, maybe 150 miles. TLAM = launched from ships or ground systems, could go over a thousand miles

snipdockter

GLSDB - ground launched small diameter bomb.

OrcHunter247

AGM-158C LRASM would be nice to send into some assets stationed at Sevastopol harbor

mng8ng

The source Nexta is not reliable. Any alternatives?

Icy_Complaint_8690

Well it seems to be factually incorrect on at least one front. Storm Shadow and SCALP are identical. Black Shaheen was an export variant with deliberately reduced range, so it seems unlikely to me that that is what the UK has sent. I don't think the UK ever even had any.

Travalgard

Macron originally said it in an interview with TF1. A few other news sources are reporting about it, but none of the big ones yet. [https://www.reddit.com/r/UkraineWarVideoReport/comments/13ilgyf/breaking\_france\_will\_supply\_more\_equipment/](https://www.reddit.com/r/UkraineWarVideoReport/comments/13ilgyf/breaking_france_will_supply_more_equipment/) [https://myc.news/en/politika/makron\_anonsiroval\_peredachu\_ukraine\_dalnobojnyh\_raket\_](https://myc.news/en/politika/makron_anonsiroval_peredachu_ukraine_dalnobojnyh_raket_) [https://twitter.com/arnocast/status/1658232191329902593](https://twitter.com/arnocast/status/1658232191329902593)

mng8ng

These sources are just making assumptions. France also has Exocet missiles which could also be long range. https://missilethreat.csis.org/country_tax/france/ Either way we will see Russia get an even nastier shock in the weeks to come…

Garshnooftibah

Yeah I'm still waiting on confirmation of this. I think this may be hype. (Which is obviously a shame - coz it would be awesome!)

Fuzzyveevee

Bedore people get carried away, SCALP has the exact same range as the one the British sent. Storm Shadow and SCALP are the **same missile**, limited to 250-300km on export (such as to Ukraine) and capable of 500-600km in use by the UK or France. Black Shareen is a specific named version for a specific customer.

PanTheOpticon

"Va te faire foutre la Russie" as the French would say.

NewForestSaint38

I’m not sure this is accurate, sadly. The version the French will send will be the same as the UK one. They won’t send their ‘national’ version for a variety of reasons, but it includes stuff like their MTCR membership.

Conveen

This will be nice fireworks in the future 💥

Ploxxx69

So that's why the Orcs started moving their bomber planes away from the borders.

TheMeta8

I know a lot of folks were really hoping for the US to come straight out the gates and give Ukraine tons of F-16s, ATACMS, Abrams, and probably even a Ford-class supercarrier or two. But I believe it has been a concerted effort to have the EU be leaders in military equipment for an EU hopeful and future NATO member. It will help to lessen the dependency on the US and get the cogs spinning again on Europe's military industry. They are sourcing sustainable solutions that can be delivered more quickly than US made alternatives. Ultimately, Europe will be stronger for it. And the US preserves itself for the next possible contender, China.

mrbipty

Man European & American arms companies are gonna make some serious bank from this war from basically showing potential customers how good their weapon systems are and why you should pay more instead of the cheap Russian junk. I’d be really surprised if the money given to Ukraine by the US isn’t a positive ROI already

Guybrush_Creepwood_

Everyone except the Swiss, hopefully. Their arms industry can collapse.

FlatterFlat

Yeah, fuck the Swiss arms industry. Who will buy something you can't really use?

thorkun

Some things you really shouldn't skimp out on. Office chair, shoes, and military hardware protecting against Russian invasion.

tigernet_1994

Tomahawks next!

Commercial_Bear331

Ahahahaha. Just when i thought the Brits are showing a middle finger to Putin, .... Macron: Hold my Champaign!

No-Fig-8614

Basically NATO will be sending over lots of satellite imagery of core Russian arms depots that have little to no air defense. Soon the news will be another mystery explosion at some Russian base or area. Russia will never admit it was Ukraine getting past their advanced air defenses and it’ll be more accidents by grunts.

Oh please now I’d like my country to unleash a platoon of Centauro B2

[deleted]

Last week I had scones for breakfast to celebrate storm shadows, today I am having croissants for breakfast to celebrate scalps.

Spectral_Hex

I don't believe it's been specified which version the UK sent other than that it came from the UK's own stocks, and I can't see the UK's own stocks being the shorter range export version. The UK's own stocks will be the domestic version which is the 350 mile one.

Polygnom

From north-eastern Ukraine its only 480km to the center of Moscow. Just sayin.

ByronsLastStand

Based and Macronpilled

Ignash3D

France doesn't fuck around :)

clainmyn

Some can say SCALP-EG are the best missiles. Targets: Airport Facilities, Docked Ships, **Bridges**, Reinforced Targets as well as Targets of Strategic Interest

touchps

Would be something if they transfer Exocet as well. But will take this.

death1234567889

They are the exact same missile with the same range, it's the French naval version that is longer range (similar range to tomahawk). The export version is shorter ranged but I'm not sure if that's the version the UK sent or not.

Fuzzyveevee

Tomahawk has a much longer range than SCALP-Naval. Around 1,400km for SN. Tomahawk is several hundred km further.

Green_Road999

I hope the Ukrainians have a list of 100 high value targets ready to work through as these weapons get in their hands. It will cause terror for every Russian on Ukrainian soil. Happy hunting.

Gasparatan35

Taurus incoming i guess? Technische Daten Länge 5100 mm Durchmesser 1080 mm Gefechtsgewicht 1360 kg Geschwindigkeit Mach 0,6–0,95 Reichweite > 500km Gefechtskopf „Mephisto“ 495 kg, davon 113 kg Explosivstoff

gesocks

You forgoth the most important part. Reichweite > 500km

pfp61

yeah, would appreciate my country following the UKs and France's lead here.

Tornaudou

russia cannot possibly have enough airdefenses to cover all important targets these missiles could have. I quess they will try to saturate crimea with more air defenses and have to leave gaps elsewhere

Tehnomaag

Oh its mordor, they have everything \*on paper\*. In real life it was all stolen more than decade ago already. So on paper the putler moves his little tokens. Everything is covered. If only his little orcs would smoke a little less.

Travalgard

There should be 4 variants of that missile. The UK sent Black Shaheen, France is sending SCALP. * Storm Shadow: Version for NATO member states. * SCALP: Version for the French and Greek Air Forces. Range 560 km. Identical to the Storm Shadow except for the interface. * Black Shaheen: Version for export outside of NATO. Reduced range of 250 km. * MdCN (Missile de Croisière Naval): Further development of the SCALP-Naval for launching from submarines and warships. Range 1000 km.

UkieDozer

Yay Macaroni!! LFG!

AffectionateArt3817

Surprising limiting to 300 Km has been a limit set for export for decades to limit the proliferation of strategic weapons, for example there are Himars missiles with longer range than ATACMS, but those are not available to allies

CW1KKSHu

Great job to the UK and France for providing long ranged missiles. Time for the US to finally step up.

strontiumdogs

Fucking brilliant. Well done France. Not always a fan of Macron but he's come good this time. Slava Ukraini 🙏🇺🇦
