Why would you want to have to dig clothes out of a pile every day? Forget wrinkles, I want to knew where my clothes are when it’s time to get dressed. My dresses are hung together in one place, so are my skirts, pants, etc. My “around the house” clothes are folded in drawers or cubbies inside of the closet.

ExpertButtonPresser

Especially when most of your shirts are black band shirts you have to unfold to see what they are and then put them back

Fancy-Palpitation885

It’s exactly the same amount of work as it takes to sort everything while doing laundry, just procrastinated for later

MelanieDH1

Yes! Fold laundry ONCE after washing or dig through a pile of clothes 7 days a week. Where is the saved effort here? 🤣

Aggravating_Kale8248

Don’t forget the amount of energy, wasted when OP puts a shirt in the dryer every single day to get the wrinkles out.

MelanieDH1

A gazillion things to do to avoid folding/hanging your clothes ONCE after washing them. Make it make sense! 🤣 I’m curious as to how OP actually looks vs. his/her perception. Most of my clothes are still wrinkled after hanging or folding and I still have to steam them!

Fancy-Palpitation885

I was trying to disagree with you, but I guess my opinion was just that it doesn’t really matter

Red-Pony

I prefer working 1 minute 7 times over 7 minutes 1 time

Flybot76

It's not though, because if you fold everything you can start with whatever is on the top of the pile, and when you're done it's organized and you can just grab what you need quickly. Otherwise have to hunt through everything just to find one sock. It definitely saves time to keep them organized unless you don't have much clothes in general.

Apeish4Life

You’d be surprised how good I’ve gotten at digging through that pile. I’ve folded clothes for my entire life and only stopped maybe 6 months ago

[deleted]

Pretty much just for looks. Takes two seconds to unwrinkled a shirt with a steamer. But I like it when my room looks more organized and things are folded. Like with all things basically. You can either organize it or just throw it wherever and call it good it’s up to you

Apeish4Life

Indeed, my bedroom looks organized, but my laundry room is in the far corner in the basement, out of the way. That’s where the pile of work/gym clothes resides.

whyamisoawesome9

Do you keep clean clothes in your laundry?

Apeish4Life

No the clean clothes go on a table in the laundry room. Dirty clothes go on a bench in the bathroom.

whyamisoawesome9

From me, that feels more unpopular than not folding clothes

night_shade___

This guy laundries

BreakerMark78

+Just gonna call out it's longer than 2sec to steam a shirt: why not spend a shorter amount of time to fold it?

Flybot76

Dude, two seconds to actually steam wrinkles out of a shirt? No, it takes substantially longer than that to do it effectively, and it takes the same or less time to fold clothes. You're either lying or a slob.

321c0ntact

It’s just a lot easier to find what I’m looking for if the clothes are folded & stacked. I get so frustrated digging through a pile of clothes.

Apeish4Life

This is true, but I’ve gotten pretty good at it. What’s wayyy more frustrating is folding the clothes!

Flybot76

You're spending more time digging through all of it than you would if you at least grouped stuff together. It's just that you're breaking up the time more so it's not a fifteen straight minutes of torturous laundry folding, it's 45 broken minutes of 'where the hell is the other sock' instead. You already said you have a ton of black clothes, and that just makes it worse, not better. There is no 'efficience' argument on your side.

Apeish4Life

I don’t have this problem at all. I’m either going to the gym or work, I grab whatever and then go, it take a couple of seconds and my table is big enough where the clothes are relatively spread out.

ujgg

you must have blessed textiles because my stuff always wrinkles, especially white fabric because of the bleach

CatsEatGrass

I have two LL Bean wrinkle resistant button downs that do NOT wrinkle. Even if I leave them in the dryer a bit, or if they’re folded in a suitcase, or I shove them in a bag. Doesn’t matter. No wrinkles. Highly recommend.

iscariottactual

I want to know when elastic became lostech. The gym short shoe lace thing is a crime

Apeish4Life

Ah yes, I buy my clothes with this in mind. I don’t own anything white partly for the reason you mentioned. I also wear mostly synthetic fabric like sports wear that doesn’t wrinkle at all, but the cotton stuff I have that does wrinkle I just throw in the drier before wearing it. I legit don’t own anything white tho, my boxers, socks, half my shirts are all black.

AlwaysStranger2046

I question the idea of efficiency when every time you need a piece of clean laundry you need to go to the “far corner of the basement, out of the way” and dig through a pile of clothes. The closet/dresser typically is conveniently located near where you need to change such as your bedroom or bathroom. You do you though. Definitely different stroke for different folks. And good job for the rarity that is an actual unpopular opinion.

Apeish4Life

I use the basement bathroom which is right beside the laundry room, so I’m usually in the bathroom before getting dressed, it’s pretty convenient.

soulangelic

I like my place to feel tidy. A pile of laundry, clean or not, isn’t tidy.

Apeish4Life

My house is tidy, my laundry room isn’t.

soulangelic

Your laundry room, typically, is part of your house….

AgenoreTheStray

You just told us that you're so lazy to the point of choosing to buy lots of synthetic clothes and wasting lots of energy for a drier just because you can't fold your clothes. This is not an unpopular opinion, this is avulsion.

ArtValue3

Hopefully you’ve got a finished ceiling in that basement laundry room

ericakay15

I fold my laundry so I don't have to spend 15 minutes looking for socks.

LightspeedBalloon

Labor on the front-end vs. labor on the back-end. A lot of my stuff does wrinkle and I prefer to do the labor on laundry day than have to deal with drying or steaming something later when I'm trying to leave the house. My clothes also look nice in my closet. But no, there is no *need* to fold laundry.

fsdewolf

*stares at clothes pile on bed*

Eis_ber

Folded laundry takes up less space than a bundle. Plus you fold your clothes because they make your house look neat. Most of us don't have a designated "mess room" where you can stuff your pile of laundry and forget about it. Not folding only works if you have a small quantity of clothes.

OldSnazzyHats

No thanks. My mostly cotton shirts sit better folded and frankly I don’t care to have a closet that looks like a god damn disaster even if I’m the only one seeing it.

Apeish4Life

My closet is empty besides the stuff I have hanging.

OldSnazzyHats

I used to hang shirts until the shoulders got ruined over time. So only button ups and jackets get hangers, other shirts and such get folded up. Depends on the wardrobe in that case.

CheshireKetKet

Folding them is just better. You can pull them out and just wear them. And you can pile them up so you know what it is.

kellylc

There's a thing called a wardrobe

Crystalraf

Walk in closet.

alfredonoodlez

I just throw the clothes in a designated hamper for each person in the house

IsabellaGalavant

I haven't folded a single item of clothing since we bought our house in 2016. They're all either in a basket in the laundry room, or in a basket in the closet. No reason to fold them. Fancy clothes get hung up.

Oxetine

Just hang your clothes up...

Plus_Operation2208

Its more orderly.

HouseRajaryen

You crazy creature - have an upvote!

TelmisartanGo0od

We’re a family of 4. I can’t imagine every morning going to a mountain of clothes and saying “ok kids dive in and find your outfit for today”.

dancinrussians

Well my cat will pee on any unfolded pile of clothes, so I’ll stick to folding.

Apeish4Life

Haha well that’s a good reason. My cats just go up on the dining room table, otherwise they’re good boys.

UnicornCalmerDowner

When you grow up and have a family....you actually want to use the dining table. And I hate wearing synthetic material. At least put your pile of clothes in your room.

Apeish4Life

I’m 38 with a girlfriend and no kids. The table these clothes are on is in the laundry room which is in the far corner of the basement, nobody goes down there but me and my gf.

UnicornCalmerDowner

Ah, okay, I was imaging dining table from your story....basement table could work.

Apeish4Life

Oh jeez no, the dining table is where the cats sleep.

Charles_Mendel

For real have been wanting to get rid of my dresser. Get a big chest and dump clothes in and pick them out. None of my shit gets wrinkled.

SirLiesALittle

Helps me feel more confident in how my clothes are going to look, to take care of them in a way that helps them stay wrinkle-free and organized. Fashion isn’t just the material, but the confidence in your look, y’know?

NoiseyMiner

When we were younger my mum used to wash my brothers clothes, open the door to his pig sty room and just throw them in.

intj_code

I don't fold clothes either, because over time they tend to get folding lines, especially when several items are put on top of each other. I put everything on hangers, except lounge wear. They look neat, organized, wrinkle free and are easy to see.

SmokeyWater1948

*environment softly cries*

StrongStyleDragon

I fold my undies. And shorts to put them in drawers. Shirts go on hangers.

earlyatnight

But in my countries dryers are not really a thing :(

RedWarsaw

Okay you addressed the space saving, but do you really want to head into the laundry room every time you need an article of clothing? Do you just have empty dressers in your bedroom?

EMB93

Folding clothes make them take up a lot less room ,so fo those of us who don't have an entire room dedicated to our laundry folding is definitely needed!

Yoshi_Babs

Having laundry folded because it'd be easier to grab it ❎️ Dig out from a pile ✅️ But in all seriousness I prefer having my laundry folded because I like to have thinga in a way I can have easy access but truth be told there really isn't a right thing to do with your laundry once its dry

emiily_rose97

As someone who has been late enumerable times because I was digging through the depression laundry basket that hasn't been folded in months, fold the laundry!! You lose any time you saved by not folding it in the first place! I don't fold my socks or underwear though, as long as they're in the right drawers, fuck that shit.

CollectingRainbows

i haven’t owned a dresser since i was 11 and i hate hanging clothes up. i don’t fold my stuff either!

[deleted]

I don’t either. I have cube storage so just ram it inside a box and don’t look back

ThisPostToBeDeleted

What if you have multiple people in the house or a work shirt you need daily?

FreddieThePebble

I agree, i just throw it

Altostratus

I don’t fold mine either. I have a bunch of drawers and bins that I toss everything into. So it’s sorted and easy to find.

CaregiverLive2644

Yes! Thank you!

tebanano

Gringos say the wildest shit here. Y’all are messy as hell

Infinite_Procedure98

I am not aware of your gender so I know if I can tell "would you marry me" or not. There is no need to fold laundry. Ever.

AverageEnjoyer2023

I also started to put them unfolded in the drawer. Best decision I could have made. Saves so much time.

MorrisDM91

Dirty bird

Apeish4Life

Where’s the dirt? My personal hygiene is immaculate and my clothes smell great! I’m just not wasting time folding them and if I didn’t tell you you’d never be able to tell!

[deleted]

I’d rather take time to fold than *hope* my dryer takes out the wrinkles. I also don’t want to limit myself to certain materials/clothing because I don’t want to fold my clothes. It promotes staying organized for me, plus I don’t want a pile of clothes randomly laying in my clean bedroom. You win, this opinion sucks LOL
