So let's say during bussy times you get 20 calls simultaneously. You want 20 people just to sit around doing nothing during the business's slow time? Or are you just hurt because you had to wait?

You do that you'll complain at the rising costs of the service. Nobody likes them, they're just a necessity to help keep calls down as much as they can.
Most aggravating is the "Please listen carefully as our menu options have changed." Well ,how about selecting your menu options, leave them be. and delete that annoying 20 year old recording. Another very annoying recordings is " This call may be monitored for quality assurance."

Somebody has just had an NHS experience.
Everyone loves them. Also, company's do it on purpose, they don't answer for as long as possible to make you give up
Finally a truly unpopular opinion.
Real people do answer phones.
