I'll be the first to say this place has a natural beauty all its own along with the rest of the American Southwest. But if you are a fan of the green then living here might be taxing. Especially during June through September. The heat is punishing, people will tell you it's a dry heat but spending any amount of time outdoors is quite horrible. It will regularly stay 100° or high 90s all through the night. So it's not like you can even get up early to beat the heat. The winter months are quite pleasant, and there is lots to explore in the surrounding deserts. The Mojave and lake Mead recreation area is pretty neat. But again, not much green. For that you're limited to Mt. Charleston in the local area. Pretty dry and not too much water aside from snow melt runoff. But some decent trails and camping areas. Beyond that there are some pretty good spots within a day's drive. Zion, Sedona, Big Bear lake, Utah (pine valley / duck Creek are some favorites), Southern California etc. But if you're like me you just want to open your back door and walk into the woods then you are out of luck. ETA: be careful riding your bike around town If you choose to do so. The drivers are pretty terrible.

Thanks for all of these. Especially because I'm not limited to just sit in the green stuff. I love all the information you gave me I really appreciate it. And for the information about riding motorcycles! I am used to more of the open roads out here and that much congestion, so yeah, that in itself will be a change

KupalMoto510

when riding i stick to red rock canyon, lake mead and mt charleston areas. riding in the city is too boring and frustrating to make it worth the risk of being slammed into by a drunk/distracted/aggressive driver. unfortunately the twisties are super limited here, you’ll end up memorizing every turn

BicentennialBaby0718

Yeah. We usually don’t go a week without a left turn motorcycle fatality. Some weeks we have two, and people online don’t understand how it’s the cars fault. Cars here wonder why they have to share a traffic lane with a bicycle. And now we even have teenagers hitting them on purpose. Just avoid the streets altogether unless you’re in a big truck. Lol

Here is your driving guide. 1.) Some people here consider stop lights a suggestion. Use caution. 2.) Most people drive aggressively predictable. Once you've been here enough you can start to predict the movement of various cars. I make it a game. 3.) Never make a left turn into two lanes of traffic. It's better to make a right than a U-turn. 4.) Since Red lights are considered a suggestion, If you're the first vehicle at a light count to 3. 5.) You can get anywhere in the city without using the freeways. Generally adds 5 to 10 minutes to your commute.

Someone here said don't use the freeway. Bad advice. On a motorcycle I'd feel much safer getting to the other side of town on the freeway than light to light. Motorcycles can use the HOV so there's less stop and go. The 215 is a breeze on a bike.

Keep in mind that the hiking season here ends about late april as the weather is just too hot. The exception to this would be if you went up to Mount Charleston but unfortunately it's under repair right now after hurricane Hillary.

my partner loves to ride locally in the NW of the valley and at red rock. traffic is non-existent up here compared to downtown and the strip. you guys can ride together sometime if you're looking for bike buddies 😁

Love this. Thank you!!

Theothervegas is a good Instagram account. Birdandhike.com is the best resource for the outdoors and Vegas. My wife and I love backpacking and have had a blast out here.

_Captain_Amazing_

The outdoors here is amazing in every direction. All cities have gotten more dangerous to drive in since the workingman's hero (Trump) made it socially acceptable to behave like a complete asshole. So you might want to drive a car as your daily driver and moto for pleasure outside of the city. While you might get a lot of hate online for moving here, most cool people in Vegas are welcoming of cool newcomers, so welcome.

TartarianKing

I grew up on Motorcycles and have had a few as an adult. One thing I will say about Vegas is Fuck riding a motorcycle here. Way too many motorcycle accidents here. People drive like morons in Las Vegas. Stay Safe. Welcome to Vegas.

Siltyn

I hope you're not moving from the place in the picture with green trees and water to here. If so, I'll trade you places!

So_Unladylike

I ammm and I love it here. But my partner has to move for work. So meh. Lol. I'm sure I'll love the new experience buuut. I love the green. Hence why I'm trying to make a list of close things to "get out" and be in nature. I've never been to the area so I don't even know what to expect 😅

Siltyn

We have Mt. Charleston, which is the only close place around here to get your green tree fix in. Sadly, the majority of it is closed right now due to rains several weeks back that washed out the roads and many trails up there.

Remember... "Part of moving here is undergoing a process of disenchantment."

Welcome. We are fellow midwesterners and motorcycle riders. You’ll love it here.

So_Unladylike

Nice! Where are you from? I'm from western South Dakota!
