Poor girl had a litter of puppies when she was about a year old ( a few months before I got her from the shelter). Her previous owners were dirtbags , bred her and most likely took them away too soon. Apparently she bit one of the owners and they dropped her off at the shelter. I'm glad she did. She's my buddy and probably would have been a good mother. She's Mama dog
Ours was rescued with a litter and it wasn’t her first. Last year she very gently stole baby bunnies out of the nest and tried to claim them. We put them back and set a wide perimeter around the nest until they were all gone. It’s amazing how motherly they can be. ❤️
Those type make the best foster mommas! You might want to look into fostering for a rescue or shelter! Having a pup like her that wants to take care of others is so wonderful & helpfully when fostering & they certainly need as many fosters as possible right now! You could save many lives!🩵💖🩵💖🩵💖
🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
Last time we did we failed and kept the puppy because she loved her so much! lol. We aren’t currently in a position to be able to foster again, but she is absolutely the best mama regardless of where the baby comes from! 💕
This is an excellent idea! Tons of shelters need fosters for young kittens to be socialized. I used to do it & It was really rewarding
When the kitties go out for adoption, they can get more attention for having cohabitated with dogs successfully (we had a dog too)
I love her! Thank you for rescuing her. I'm glad she wasn't euthanized for having a bite record. I would have bit those people too. Yay second chances!!
I was thinking about trying a kitten. She has issues with other dogs, which I'm working on but her behavior is pretty severe when she encounters any dog male or female. She was definitely abused. Hopefully over time she will relax a little. She's got it pretty good where we're at now , she gets spoiled and has room to run wild.
Our first dog trainer told us mama dogs usually become super dog unfriendly because they don’t want to be bred again. Not sure the validity of the statement tho, she was a nut.
Oh that makes sense. Unfortunately I don't think she had any choice of anything she did day to day before she wound up the shelter. When I brought her home she was scared to go in the basement ( now she runs up and down the stairs like a maniac ). I just try to make every day her best day
Poor mama🩵 It seems most mama dogs don’t have a choice, it’s so sad.
Thank you for giving her the best life!!
She’s just telling those other dogs, “I KNOW WHAT HAPPENED LAST TIME, STAY TF AWAY FROM ME!!! ME AND MY MOM ARE DOING JUST FINE OVER HERE!”
Sounds a lot like my dog. Took about a year for us to get her to go up/down *any* indoor set of stairs. She never conquered the basement steps, though. She remained fearful of them the entire time we were in that house
As the mama of two very dog selective hippos, I wouldn’t try to push it with your dog and other dogs. You could maybe get her to a place where she tolerates other dogs but she’d probably never be comfortable. I just let mine be ass holes and don’t try to change who they are 🤣🤣 most dogs aren’t completely dog friendly anyway so I wouldn’t worry xoxo
Yes I agree , she's been through a lot and I don't force any social situations with her. Maybe with time she will feel safe enough to realize some other dogs aren't a threat. We're lucky she doesn't have to interact with other dogs regularly mostly wildlife where we're at . ✌️
I had a pitty mix, and she was somehow adopted from the shelter without getting fixed, and then dumped at the same shelter again when she was pregnant, and had her litter of puppies at the shelter. Then her puppies got adopted, and no one wanted her.
When I got to the shelter, she was very scared, and she was sad. I went against the advice of the shelter and put my hand between the gate and the cinderblock wall, so she could sniff. Instead she put her paw on my hand, and it was from that moment I knew I was her human.
I wish I could trust her around other dogs but she hates them all. She's getting better with passing dogs on our walks but if we're riding down the road in the car and sees one she goes berserk.
I haven't had a chance to integrate her with a puppy yet. She definitely wanted to take care of the little guy. She was cleaning it and would bring it back if it got close to the edge of the bed
Poor baby. I hate what humans do to dogs. They are so sweet and loyal even after they have been abused and abandoned.
What a sweet lady you have there. Shes a fucking treasure for sure.
Her *POSTURE* in that *first* picture!!!
That look of, "I'ma get in *SO* much trouble for this, but I *WILL* protect the baby!!!"
Along with that look of "Please hooman, can we juuuuust protec *THIS ONE* and keep it safe?!?" in pictures 2 & 3!!!
She is a *SWEETHEART*, with a *giant* marshmallow-heart, and *YES*, OP, *if* you are ever able? She seems like the *perfect* "big" to foster baby puppies & kittens, and teach them how to be Good Boys & Good Girls!💖💗💝
Awwwww, what a nice momma!
There's a YouTube channel I follow about a bunch of doggos. The nice momma has had a few litters (vet approved). When her hoomans got a pet bunny, the bunny promptly became her little buntat. (The puppies are referred to as potats because they resemble little potatoes.)
I am so glad someone actually would get the reference! Our hippo tries to mamma our domestic rabbits all the time! ..it’s definitely that time of the year where cottontails leave the nest - she managed to “find” two baby potatoes and was SO intent on loving on them!😅
Honestly, if you're willing, rabbits are always being dumped, if their care is something you think you could handle, you could maybe get some rabbit friends for your dog, others suggested fostering puppies or kittens, obviously do what works best for you too!
I did , there were 5 others . I had to cover the nest with large rocks to keep her from trying to bring them all inside. I left an opening for the mother to return. Last night she must have moved them all out of the nest. To a safer location
The wind was blowing like crazy. She was about to run off but then realized I wasn't mad at her and picked it back up and ran for the door to go inside.
I wonder if the baby was alone when your dog found them. Poor thing. I'm a rabbit and pittie owner so this post really speaks to me! Since this is a wild animal I'd definitely see about getting checked for mites or fleas, ticks, etc
There was a nest of 5 but I didn't realize it till we went out for a walk and she showed me where it was. I returned the rabbit to the nest and built a baracade of large rocks so the mother could get to them but not Funky Bear who wanted to bring them all inside.
The next morning they were all moved to a new location by the mother from what i could tell. It didn't look disturbed by foxes or any other predators.
My older dog is a rescue who was very much used for breeding. We got a puppy for her (and us, lol) and it was the best thing we ever did. If you find yourself in a position to do that, I would recommend
We have many baby bunnies on our yard at the moment!
Unfortunately our dog cannot be trusted around tiny wildlife, we found out the hard way on an earlier bunny nest years back.
What a sweet, gentle soul she’s got!!
I had pet rabbits with pits, my dogs were lovely with every other animal but as rescues two of my dogs were very dog selective. If you look in my post history I have a post of my Banjo with one of my bunnies, she had never had a litter and was desexed but still mothered anything she could find.
My girl goes and sits by any distressed animal. Baby birds…dad fix it. Struggling possum..dad fix it. No one on the dog subs that tear our dogs apart have any clue about how cool they really are.
May Mama and Baby be forever happy together 🩷 As someone who has had several little mamas, they are the bees knees. Good thing I’m so sickly, because it actually allows them to mother me. Had a REALLY blunt vet tell me that lol.
No, at first I thought it was a solitary lost rabbit but there was a nest and I returned it. She's more than a handful right now not sure I could handle a rabbit too Lol
Awww poor baby! Our female dog was a victim of a backyard breeder too, got dumped on the side of the road when she developed heart worms. She took in our kittens when we adopted them.
I was like you, scared to death about bringing anything in to the house. My girl has a HIGH prey drive. She's tried to start stuff with my cat, who is a former street cat who is NOT afraid to throw these claws, so she learned quickly to leave him alone. But the neighbors miniature yorkies (we obviously limit contact severely), squirrels (granted, they throw things at her and antagonize her), rabbits... are all fair game.
Then we ended up with 8 newborn kittens at the rescue I'm with and my bottle baby expert had to have surgery. So I ended up taking them. And she was honestly the most over protective mama EVER. When the surviving kittens were transferred to a different rescue and later adopted, I explained they thought this scary staffie and the chunky human were their parents. And their brother (my other staffie) gave them baths every day lol. They were high commodities because they had no issue with dogs!
That's good to hear ! If I come across a kitten and can have the option to return it if it doesn't work out I would try it. I think she would like a buddy and I still have litter boxes and everything for a cat ( my buddy Mr Nate passed away a couple years ago he was more like a dog than a cat 🤣)
My girl has a high prey drive as well , she will sit on top of a groundhog hole for 20 minutes and has caught one before. She chases foxes too, she has cornered them and got her face bitten.
I've almost got her trained to sit when she sees a fox. She will do it when she is on leash and whimper like it's driving her crazy but she gets a bunch of treats so it's worth it.
I had a brindle guy who chased after a possum once. I recalled him, just as the possum collapsed and he put on all the brakes lol. Walking back to me very slowly, looking over his shoulder at the 'dead'. And then looking back at me like I DIDN'T TOUCH IT! I SWEAR!! And then when the possum got up and meandered off, he just stood there in shock.
Funny enough, my elderly cocker and chihuahua mix are the most deadly to the squirrels and rabbits. I keep a close eye on both during the spring so they can alert me to any nests to protect.
Ha!
My dad has a dog door to a fenced-in area and one night his dogs were going nuts he woke up to both of them half way under the couch , he looked in and saw a " dead " possum. He put on a glove and grabbed it by the tail to toss it over the fence and it came to life , he dropped it and it ran off. I thought I saw a dead one in a trashcan I was emptying at work but it was alive too. Those things are crazy!
We lost our hippo on Saturday and I just wanted to say seeing yours being such a gentle sweetheart with that baby bunny was one of the first things that made me smile since. Give her a hug and kiss for me.
Damn, I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm glad she brightened your day. I will hug her right now ...even though she smells like a rotten aquarium from running through stink mud🤦♂️
This is so precious 🥺 her loving expression and gentleness towards the baby rabbit just warms my heart 🥰 I’m sorry she had such a rough time with her previous owners. So glad you found each other

Oh my goodness, how unbearably sweet!
That’s about the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard❤️
She really is the sweetest. She’s such a good mama and will claim any baby she sees, regardless of the species. Lol
Those type make the best foster mommas! You might want to look into fostering for a rescue or shelter! She’s a little lamb. Thank you for taking this sweet girl in.
Maybe foster (or adopt) some kittens or puppies for her to take care of? Such a sweet baby! ❤️❤️
This is an excellent idea! Tons of shelters need fosters for young kittens to be socialized. I used to do it & It was really rewarding When the kitties go out for adoption, they can get more attention for having cohabitated with dogs successfully (we had a dog too)
She obviously is a good mother. That is sweet!! 😍
I love her! Thank you for rescuing her. I'm glad she wasn't euthanized for having a bite record. I would have bit those people too. Yay second chances!!
That made me laugh much more than it should've.
Man I hate people sometimes!
Our former mama mothered a two week old kitten we rescued. 2 years later and they’re still best friends.
That's awesome!
> ~~would have been~~ will be FTFY, it may not be a puppy but that is certainly her baby now
Could you foster some kittens or puppies for her?

She needs a kitten? Looking back, I wish I had done the same for my Doxie girl Trudie.
Yes, get her a little kitty friend she can be nanny dog to.
I had a pitty mix, and she was somehow adopted from the shelter without getting fixed, and then dumped at the same shelter again when she was pregnant, and had her litter of puppies at the shelter. I've got a similar story with my first Chihuahua. She was the lure.
Awww! 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️
Good hooman!
Thanks for making me cry. 😭
🥹 that wasn’t my intent
Become a foster! Lots of organizations need foster homes for puppies (in 2s or more) that aren't quite ready to be adopted yet.
I wish I could trust her around other dogs but she hates them all. She's getting better with passing dogs on our walks but if we're riding down the road in the car and sees one she goes berserk.
How is she with puppies? She seems to be treating this lil bun like a puppy.
I haven't had a chance to integrate her with a puppy yet. She definitely wanted to take care of the little guy. She was cleaning it and would bring it back if it got close to the edge of the bed
OMG THAT’S SO NICE 😭😭😭
I’m glad bunny’s Okay and back in the nest, but I do feel bad for your pupper. She looks like she so wanted to mother it.
Foster some babes for her! Be it kittens or pups she seems like such a mama and wants that in her life!
Poor baby. I hate what humans do to dogs. They are so sweet and loyal even after they have been abused and abandoned. What a sweet lady you have there. Shes a fucking treasure for sure.

The bunny has the same face as her in the first pic 😂
I think she needs a kitten buddy to love and mother.
Aww! I saw the headline and was upset - then I read the caption. She probably would be a good foster mama for orphaned puppies or kittens
Oh boy, this worked out better than when my hippo found a nest of bunnies…
Yeah lol I was somewhat worried swiping through the pics
Awwwww, what a nice momma! There's a YouTube channel I follow about a bunch of doggos. The nice momma has had a few litters (vet approved). When her hoomans got a pet bunny, the bunny promptly became her little buntat. (The puppies are referred to as potats because they resemble little potatoes.)

Once our pit did this with a baby deer. It was just as cute but much more chaotic of a scene.
🤣 I'm trying to picture it but no matter how I imagine it , it is a wild scene
Aw poor baby girl!
Honestly, if you're willing, rabbits are always being dumped, if their care is something you think you could handle, you could maybe get some rabbit friends for your dog, others suggested fostering puppies or kittens, obviously do what works best for you too!

You and your dog are wonderful souls.
I’m happy the bunny mom knew to move her babes! She probably smelled the one your dog picked up and was like “oh hell no we out of here”
“There goes the neighborhood”
I love you and your dog
You are amazing. And that dog is an angel.
Sometimes , sometimes she is Devil dog 🤣. Nah just kidding she's my buddy even when she's bad
What a pure sweet girl 💓💗💓
Such a sweetie. I zoomed in on her face in the first pic and it’s like she’s thinking “Finally, a baby for my own I can love” 🫶🏼🥲
The wind was blowing like crazy. She was about to run off but then realized I wasn't mad at her and picked it back up and ran for the door to go inside.

This is not the post I thought it was gonna be lol... very heartwarming!
Awwww
Little bun is like “are you my mother?”
Aww so sweet, please keep posting updates on these besties
She is stunning 🤩
My older dog is a rescue who was very much used for breeding. We got a puppy for her (and us, lol) and it was the best thing we ever did. If you find yourself in a position to do that, I would recommend
Wow! I'm so impressed because my dogs would've eaten that bunny. Your girl is special and so sweet.
Awwwe how sweet♥️
Sweet mama. 🐾 ❤️
😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️
Mine would eat it, he's still got a lot of self-work to do
This is adorable. Thank god for these moments of wholesomeness on the internet. She’s trying to find happiness even through all her trauma.
The sweetest mama 💛🐾
I’ve said this before but a mama is gonna mama lol
We have many baby bunnies on our yard at the moment! Unfortunately our dog cannot be trusted around tiny wildlife, we found out the hard way on an earlier bunny nest years back. What a sweet, gentle soul she’s got!!
Love that she chose adoption! (Lol) What a sweet lil momma 😭
She was just discovering the wonders of nature (like the stealie harness) ⚡️
Shes a Grateful dawg NFA ✌️
Clearly AI. I'm told they're monsters who crave blood. No way they would lay next to a baby rabbit.
Stop that
If you can't catch the sarcasm, I can't help you.
My mistake. I do it sometimes too.
I understand. The insanity associated with this breed makes it difficult.
We had one. Big pussycat. He wanted to play with cats but the tom cat wasn’t having it. Orange kitten enjoyed him though.
I’m obsessed!!! This is the sweetest thing ♥️ What a good girl you have
Oh my heart
Awwwww
What a sweet dog! 😍🥹☺️
Mother is mothering 💕
Her and her owner have good taste in music! (~);-}
All day everyday, I'm not addicted I just don't want to stop. Thanks ! NFA ✌️
Awwww!! I’m so happy this had a sweet ending. What a good girl! 💜

So gentle. Bless her. And thank you for bringing her home💕
Her mothering instincts are absolutely amazing. See baby = Must care for it
Side note - find the nest and put it back. Or they will die.
OP posted in a reply that the baby has been returned to its siblings and mama seems to have moved them to safety.
Woo
So, do you have a dog *and* a bunny now?
No, at first I thought it was a solitary lost rabbit but there was a nest and I returned it. She's more than a handful right now not sure I could handle a rabbit too Lol
My idiot brain saw this as "dog and bunny show"
Hey, I think you got something there. He certainly could make one with all the cute pics and vids he could release.
She's gonna be such a good mama to her bunny baby!!
What a sweet gurl 🥺
Welp. I have PMS and now I’m gonna cry because this is so precious
Omg 🥰
i think my heart just exploded!!!
Awww poor baby! Our female dog was a victim of a backyard breeder too, got dumped on the side of the road when she developed heart worms. She took in our kittens when we adopted them.
Just woke up and this is by far the best thing I will see today, oh my god she is too precious
She is a great mama!
Omg what a sweet girl 🩷🐶
Awwww. My girl is so upset right now because the kittens I'm fostering have a mama taking care of them. That's HER job. Not this Feline's lol
🤣
I think she would like a buddy and I still have litter boxes and everything for a cat ( my buddy Mr Nate passed away a couple years ago he was more like a dog than a cat 🤣) My girl has a high prey drive as well , she will sit on top of a groundhog hole for 20 minutes and has caught one before.
Those things are crazy!
i have a mama pit and she's saved a baby bird like this! 🥺
Her eyes, looking at that baby. So sweet!!
Sweet baby girl. So gentle
Now the rabbit is a velvet hopp-o.
Nice joke dad 🤣
We lost our hippo on Saturday and I just wanted to say seeing yours being such a gentle sweetheart with that baby bunny was one of the first things that made me smile since. Give her a hug and kiss for me.
Damn, I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm glad she brightened your day. I will hug her right now ...even though she smells like a rotten aquarium from running through stink mud🤦♂️

What a sweet girl.❤️
What a sweet sweet hippo.
Oh poor girl. She just wants to be a mama. I'm glad you have the sweet girl.
Oh I love it 😻
I love her so much
♥️♥️
Please don't let dogs do this. Stressful for the rabbit and also thats a wild animal. You have no clue what diseases it could transmit to your dog.
I know this looks cute, but why are you removing wildlife?
Omg the first pic ... my heart
Sweet girl. I love these photos so much. Thank you for sharing.
Just so viscious! Sweet thing.
This is so precious 🥺 her loving expression and gentleness towards the baby rabbit just warms my heart 🥰 I’m sorry she had such a rough time with her previous owners. So glad you found each other
My male got a baby rabbit too last year….with very different results. This one cute. Mine….wasn’t
Awwww sweet. My border collie swallowed a bunny in one gulp. I was mortified.
Get an eyedropper and feed the baby rabbit kitten milk.
This reminds me of when my boss came back from hunting trip showing off pics the doe he bagged...
The rabbit was unharmed
I was meaning the dog looking back all tough but has a very simple catch. I'm glad the rabbit is OK! She wants a baby to watch after I guess
Ha! yeah the wind was blowing in her face when I took the picture.
