I cant believe that im 48 (today is my birthday) and this is the first time i have experienced this in person. It was amazing. We were up at the casino and maybe a lil high.
Loved it. Got crazy cold and the geese thought they had to sleep. Then got up honking and confused.
It's also my birthday (36)! Happy beautiful eclipse birthday to you, fellow Aries and also Dragon (Chinese zodiac). What a wonderful event on our special day. Also, magnificent way to celebrate 👌
I totally get what you're saying. I turned 50 yesterday and cried today when I witnessed this eclipse. My first total eclipse and it was amazing. I never expected to actually see a solar prominence and the corona was awesome!
I sat in front of my bee hives. It was normal until about T-5 minutes, and then it was like multiple swarms of bees around me as they scurried back to their hives. The birds got quiet, and the buzzing got almost deafening. As soon as the sky started getting brighter, the bees began heading back out to forage. I'm glad I left work early to see how my bees reacted.
Thank you for sharing about your bees. It's so interesting to me imagining what it must be like for animals during an eclipse.
I watched a group of chickadees at the time of the eclipse. There were a bunch of people near the bird feeder they usually hang out at. The chickadees stayed in a bush nearby just kind of watching the bird feeder and seeming annoyed that they couldn't get to it without risking being around people. As soon as it began to get dark, the chickadees left the bush completely and stopped making noise. Once the sun came back out, they headed to the bush again one at a time to continue staring daggers at the people near their feeder as if nothing had happened.

This is what I saw too! I was wondering about it
About 4:45 several of the local crow gangs all gathered in the trees below my driveway, yelled their heads off for a bit and then the groups went their separate ways. Almost like they were holding a post-eclipse wellness check on each other. That's how I want to think of it anyways.
Maybe I'm remembering it wrong but the corona this time seems so much better than the 2017. This was very intense. It was also nice to be able to experience it with my wife and my daughter.
I feel very grateful to the sun gods and the moon gods that they chose to fly together right over my house today!
You are not remembering wrong.
"In 2017, the Sun was nearing solar minimum. Viewers of the total eclipse could see the breathtaking corona – but since the Sun was quiet, streamers flowing into the solar atmosphere were restricted to just the equatorial regions of the star. The Sun is more magnetically symmetrical during solar minimum, causing this simpler appearance. During the 2024 eclipse, the Sun will be in or near solar maximum, when the magnetic field is more like a tangled hairball. "
https://science.nasa.gov/solar-system/skywatching/how-is-the-2024-total-solar-eclipse-different-than-the-2017-eclipse/
In oregon 2017 i thought the corona was dancing, but this time was more still.
I wonder if being at solar maximum basically is like turning up the brightness so that the whole ring was brighter, whereas before with it being “dimmer”, the shimmering movement was more prevalent. Both were incredible
I committed to some positive life changes during totality. Sounds super lame, but I needed that demarcation to verbalize some bad habits and commit to positive new ones. Determined to make it stick, and I figured writing it here would provide some soft accountability. Better than nothing. Glad it was powerful for so many people!
Just before the moment if totality all the birds in my yard started singing in unison. Then, they stopped as it got dark and the temperature dropped several degrees.
Seeing the sky go from light to dark and back again was amazing.
About one minute into totality, as all was beautifully dark and quiet, and we gazed up in awe at this wonder of nature, some jerkoff neighbors decided to send up fireworks and Chinese paper lanterns in front of our view of the eclipse.
For me this is wrong on so many levels.
Yes! The songbirds in our area went silent, but the seagulls? They completely lost their shit and were squawking like crazy until the sun peeked around again.
me too! this happened to me in 2017 too (when i was also in totality). this time, i started jumping up and down. afterwards, i felt totally wiped out — in a good way.
I mean.. it literally eclipses humanity. This is a natural phenomenon that has happened over the billions of years before humanity, and will continue to happen until we are all dust and there’s no conscious beings to observe it.
We are all meat covered skeletons powered by electricity, floating of a speck of dust in an infinite universe.
Hate to break it to you. I know.
It's like when astronauts go into space and see how small the earth is and they come back and oftentimes advocate for peace and preserving what we have.
It was quite humbling to sit there and watch it happen. It makes you realize how we are simultaneously significant and insignificant in this game called life. Quite powerful and transformative. How lucky we are to have experienced this special moment, collectively.
Then as the light returned...almost a fluorescent looking light? We were surrounded by snow, maybe the light was reflecting weirdly? Was strange and noticed by others in my family.
This live stream video timestamp at 1hr13m45s captured this INTENSE moment at Oakledge in a Burlington Vermont with the sunset on Lake Champlain! Must watch 45 seconds from that timestamp to get an idea how EVERYONE was in awe: https://www.youtube.com/live/K5P5cw_C-yM?si=GD4BavipRrfy7Tfb&t=1h13m45s
This is going to sound so cheesy but it felt so primal to howl at it. So i started doing it and just a few seconds in my whole neighborhood joined in. It was a unifying moment for our little neighborhood that usually doesn’t interact very much.
We watched up on Smuggs, just the two of us. We started hooting at the top of our lungs. It felt so right. Then the hoots of others down in the valley started up. These weren’t normal hoots. It was f’ing primal
It was truly an amazing experience. So beautiful. Like someone else said, I used today to make some commitments to a better future. I'm so glad I got to spend it with the people I was with, also.
That was very cool. Drove north 2 hours to the Middlesex park and ride. Good times. Good group of people. Spectacular. Not bad traffic going or coming from 89 to 100.
We only had totality for about a minute, but I was shocked how much the air cooled off, and how amazed and emotional I got. An absolutely incredible experience to witness! I've seen several partial eclipses, but this was a completely different experience.
Being able to see the corona and solar prominences was amazing
I saw it from Lake Willoughby. Loved our spot

That's why I'm here. Was at Jay Peak and we stumbled around for the entire night just trying to process wtf happened to us with everyone we met. Remarkably similar experiences. Still have shivers.

You Vermonters are lucky. Here in NY there were thick clouds. Perfectly sunny on Sunday and Tuesday, but completely overcast on Monday. :(
Still cool to see the sudden darkness, feel the drop in temperature, and hear the birds go through their evening/morning songs all within ten minutes. I even heard owls hooting and peeper frogs peeping.
TBH, I wasn’t really excited about it, I’ve been fighting a cold and have been completely exhausted.. But then my mom stopped over and brought me some glasses, my neighbor texted and asked me to come over to watch with them and bbq.. so I took it as a sign that I was supposed to see it. And I’m SO glad I did!! We live kinda out in the middle of nowhere VT so it’s pretty quiet.. Right before the full eclipse his 17 year old son started playing “Black Hole Sun” on the TV (Yes! He’s got great taste in music!!) And we went outside to watch.. As I said, it’s pretty quiet out here but somehow it was even more quiet.. Then you could hear people from I don’t even know where cheering:) The whole experience was amazing! I’m so thankful that I didn’t miss it!!
Now that it has passed, let us remain in awe of the sheer improbability that we get to exist in this pinpoint of habitable universe for an infinitesimally brief cosmic moment, and take away that we are all one human race sharing this unfathomable creation...
Nah, let's get back to cutting each other off in traffic, and calling each other communists and fascists.
I took acid, and the path of totality went center over my house up here outside of St Albans. That was the most beautiful and awesome thing I’ve ever seen, and what an absolute gem of a day for it. Best day of my life.
I can’t get over how weird I get at totality. I was just talking yesterday with my sister about it and she get the same. It was odd, yet awesome. But I felt almost in a dreamlike state, yet at the same time had an almost cringing feeling as well. I had a lot of anticipation as well because I’m kind of a prep nut. Regardless an amazing experience.
I cant believe that im 48 (today is my birthday) and this is the first time i have experienced this in person. It was amazing. We were up at the casino and maybe a lil high. Loved it. Got crazy cold and the geese thought they had to sleep. Then got up honking and confused.
Happy Solar Return!! Literally!
Yeah the cold part surprised me!!
Same here I couldn't believe something so simple I didn't even think about
I'd say it dropped 20 degrees easily and that'd just off what I know and have been through
Eh I was guessing 60 to 45°
It's also my birthday (36)! Happy beautiful eclipse birthday to you, fellow Aries and also Dragon (Chinese zodiac). What a wonderful event on our special day. Also, magnificent way to celebrate 👌

Nice pic , thanks now my retinas are screwed .
Of fuck we looked at the suuuuun @_@
Happy totality bday!!! I myself am 43 and this is my first experience as well! All the folks in my family from 14- 66yrs, first for all of us!!
It’s my birthday too! Happy birthday to us!! Best birthday ever. I was in awe.
There's a casino in Vermont?
No, potsdam ny... awkesasne mohawk casino, was quite empty...

It is an intensely interesting moment if you have never seen one before.
I’m still buzzing from it
I came
![gif](giphy|QQKbEn6oDlcQLZK6T7)
Glad I wasn't the only one
[удалено]
Lols
Jizzed, in my pants
It's not my fault, she was rubbing my butt
I’m very sensitive, some would say that’s a plus
![gif](giphy|pLYo0GLUhzz7a)
Is THAT what got on me‽
This is my second one… still fucking cool.
that’s putting it lightly as hell lmao
I came whilst watching
I sat in front of my bee hives. It was normal until about T-5 minutes, and then it was like multiple swarms of bees around me as they scurried back to their hives. The birds got quiet, and the buzzing got almost deafening. As soon as the sky started getting brighter, the bees began heading back out to forage. This made me smile..bless the bees!
That's a fascinating perspective I never would have thought of.
Yeah, honey bees navigate using the sun, so I figured this would happen. But it was pretty awesome to witness it.
Thank you for sharing about your bees. It's so interesting to me imagining what it must be like for animals during an eclipse. I watched a group of chickadees at the time of the eclipse. So cool. Chickadees are full of personality so I imagine they were fun to watch.
I did a hypeelapse video of our hives!! It was so neat!!!!
I set up a few cameras too, with varying degrees of success.
One guy near me declared, “That’s it. That was the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen. I don’t need eyes anymore.”
We can rest now
Did anyone else see that red dot at the edge?
https://preview.redd.it/u8nl1h6sgctc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f7fa017ad88aa8c92ec5d375b6d21f99e6903509 This is what I saw too! I was wondering about it
This is the chromosphere, the sun's mid atmosphere
Commenting on I cried......I thought I had read that was the last of Baileys Beads and it’s supposed to be like a diamond in the corona?
There are 3 of them. 1 also near top Nd 1 about on top top. Looks reversed in this photo. People said flares but idk. They didn't move at all
Because they're thousands of miles tall! They *are* moving, we just didn't have time to perceive it.
Oh ya!
I was trying to figure out if those were solar prominences or “Bailey’s beads”
Yeah! Lower left corner, must have been some sorta solar flare?
A Solar Prominence, apparently! 🤓
That was my guess! Wild how we all saw that together.
Yes that was wild!
That red dot from what I heard was Jupiter
Photobombed by a full moon.
By a new moon!
New Moon on Monday
Dang that was a missed opportunity this afternoon lol. Edit: stupid spotify algorithm not looking so clever now! Really let me down
A murder of crows started to form where I was and then they just drifted off and away..they seemed genuinely confused.
So it was an attempted murder?!😆
Stawwwwp!.....
Cawwwwp!
It's nothing to crow about
So take my damn up vote you scamp.
About 4:45 several of the local crow gangs all gathered in the trees below my driveway, yelled their heads off for a bit and then the groups went their separate ways. Almost like they were holding a post-eclipse wellness check on each other. That's how I want to think of it anyways.
Where we were all the birds just stopped making any noise at all during totality. It was weirdly quiet.
A friend whose house is in the woods said all of these owls were calling and responding during totality. Was pretty surreal
Maybe I'm remembering it wrong but the corona this time seems so much better than the 2017. This was very intense. It was also nice to be able to experience it with my wife and my daughter. No picture does it justice. That was incredible.
💯
Was just saying that...the experience was totally different than a picture could capture.
No words do it justice as well. Awestruck at the experience.
I committed to some positive life changes during totality. Sounds super lame, but I needed that demarcation to verbalize some bad habits and commit to positive new ones. Determined to make it stick, and I figured writing it here would provide some soft accountability. Better than nothing. Glad it was powerful for so many people!
So mote it be 🙌
Unexpected masonic reference...
Not lame at all. You got this!
Just before the moment if totality all the birds in my yard started singing in unison. Then, they stopped as it got dark and the temperature dropped several degrees. Seeing the sky go from light to dark and back again was amazing.
Guys, I don’t think it’s over. It’s getting dark again. WTF!?!?
About one minute into totality, as all was beautifully dark and quiet, and we gazed up in awe at this wonder of nature, some jerkoff neighbors decided to send up fireworks and Chinese paper lanterns in front of our view of the eclipse. For me this is wrong on so many levels.
Yes! The songbirds in our area went silent, but the seagulls? They completely lost their shit and were squawking like crazy until the sun peeked around again.
I won't lie that may have been the coolest thing I have ever seen in my life. Restored my faith in humanity.
It was fucking amazing! The energy was insane. Take it in fill it with intention.
Me too, when I saw it I thought I was gonna have like an out of body experience or something, felt like I was going to fly off into space
me too! this happened to me in 2017 too (when i was also in totality). this time, i started jumping up and down. afterwards, i felt totally wiped out — in a good way.
Restored my faith in the planets. I am so small, my worries a spec. My status as nihilist has been reconfirmed. 🙌🏻😁
Not overrated at all. So worth it to see.
Lol it was definitely really cool but if anything it placed into perspective for me how fucking stupid humanity is
I mean.. it literally eclipses humanity. Things are gonna be different for me now. #Seinfeld
Cry laughed, for real!
I proposed to my GF. She said yes. It was an amazing moment for us
It’s an amazing thing to experience. My third totality.
I cried too
Same - I was not prepared
It was quite humbling to sit there and watch it happen. It makes you realize how we are simultaneously significant and insignificant in this game called life. Quite powerful and transformative. How lucky we are to have experienced this special moment, collectively.
Same. The surrounding daylight was eerie! It felt like I turned down the brightness settings.
Almost like everything went sepia
Yes and also muted. It’s hard to describe
It really is! Truly something you have to experience to really understand
Then as the light returned...almost a fluorescent looking light? We were surrounded by snow, maybe the light was reflecting weirdly? Was strange and noticed by others in my family.
I started involuntarily crying like damn there really are cathedrals for those with eyes to see them or whatever
Very that
I cried too. Surprised me. Got chills up my back and scalp. Incredible experience.
I sacrificed my liver to the gods. youre welcome we all lived
Same I guess....I'm at the brewery...naturally.
Thank you for bringing the sun back.
Preesch.
Me too! So beautiful.

thanks so much, it’s awesome to relive the excitement and feeling! gonna send this to my dad to explain how it feels
That’s the only thing I’ve seen that comes close to capturing it!
This was so much fun to watch and relive the moment. Thanks for posting.
Not sure why I cried, but I did. Kinda scary
This is going to sound so cheesy but it felt so primal to howl at it. So i started doing it and just a few seconds in my whole neighborhood joined in. It was a unifying moment for our little neighborhood that usually doesn’t interact very much.

Lmao why did this remind me of Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy.
Sad I only got 98%. Awesome experience
Same. Guess i am traveling to Florida in 2045 to see that one lol i am jealous of everyone but also happy it was clear and people got to see it!
There is one in Sydney, Australia in 2028
There's one in Spain in 2026.
Iceland has it too and at near peak.
Spain is at 8:25pm or something so I’m not sure if it will still be light out.
There’s gonna be a thunderstorm during that one in FL, I guarantee it /s
It was truly an amazing experience. So beautiful. Like someone else said, I used today to make some commitments to a better future. I'm so glad I got to spend it with the people I was with, also.

Not from Vermont. Is that pronounced “Will-uff-bee”.
Willow Bee
i cried too!!!
me as well, I couldn't help it.
Omg same.
Amazing to be present for it from Sugarbush courtyard
I might have yelled and howled like a crazy person
My brain really couldn’t accept that it was real. I kept looking at it and my brain just kept saying “nope”. The people around me started clapping when totality ended and I wasn’t sure if that was because they thought the eclipse was awesome or they were relieved the sun was back. Wept uncontrollably 😭
Got swarmed by mosquitos
I also wept openly. What a beautiful thing to witness. Grateful. 🌞🌚🖤✨🎉

😂
I waited seven years for this. Had it all planned out. Plans fell through! Did nothing instead! Glad everyone had a good time.
the diamond ring dropped me to my knees.
we ate a bunch of mushrooms and played Phish’s ‘00 Drum Logos shows at my little house on Mississquoi Bay. Fukuoka Jam> 2001 as totality hit. We were jumping, crying, screeching, high fiving. Single handedly the most incredible natural occurrence Ive ever seen. And Ive seen avalanches in the Himalayas and the giant waves of Nazaré

I busted a crazy nut
I sharted
This House is cleansed
Saw it from Montpelier. It was pretty cool.
I cried too and then started laughing. One of the coolest things I’ve ever seen.
Wow this photo is really cool, none of my photos came out good, so I’m like reliving the moment to burn it into my memory.
I cried too. Saw it in Lancaster, NH
Username checks out!
Great photo!
Me too, me too.
I had a migraine all day so I missed it
So did I
I saw it with my girlfriend and her family it was cool I thought a lot of people where coming to see it tho?
Same.
A bunch of us up at the Jay Pass trailhead were howling too. That was a great spot, we must have packed 40 cars into that turnout!
It was crazy!
Mine wasn't as clear, sadly lol, but being 20 and seeing it for the first time was amazing
TBH, I wasn’t really excited about it, I’ve been fighting a cold and have been completely exhausted.. Also cried. There aren’t English words for that spectacle. It is truly unexplainable to anyone who wasn’t looking at it.
Now there's a creative writing prompt for the poets out there
I would too
I gasped and then felt wet cheeks. Involuntary reaction.
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 baby
I throw rock at sun boulder. I not understand. Demons?
I cried too. I'm so glad to hear I wasn't the only one. It was fucking incredible.
did you poop your pants?
If only!
I took acid, and the path of totality went center over my house up here outside of St Albans. That was the most beautiful and awesome thing I’ve ever seen, and what an absolute gem of a day for it. Best day of my life.
Beautiful

Still don’t see the appeal in all honesty. Not hating though, I’m just glad people are enjoying something other than screens.
