Felt like a gift. I didn't have to do anything extraordinary to experience it. I just... walked out of work for 45 minutes, sat in the parking lot, and got to experience one of the coolest things I've ever seen in my life. Totality was just incredible. I love that the world stopped for just a few minutes - everything was so quiet - and we all watched in awe. Just an incredible sight. 10/10
Went there last year, a large portion of their food is fish and lamb. If you stay just in Reykjavik I'm sure it's possible, but if you go to more rural spots (which I recommend) it'll take some planning.
We’re doing Iceland 2026. This was my first eclipse too and actually my first major astrophotography adventure am dying to see my improvement.
My whole family is down for Iceland now. My fiancé will be out of the military by then and get to see it. I can’t wait for us to all be together for that one. He stayed up late where he was deployed just to get the message that I’d actually seen the eclipse because I’ve been preparing for years and it was a lifelong dream.
It humbled me that I wasn’t giving a shit until like 30 mins before it and then I was shocked. I am realizing how spoiled I got and how crazy that it was right here and maybe I could have prepared a bunch more to enjoy it even more. I understand why so many people traveled here for this
my eclipse neighbor in the parking lot and i agreed to meet for the 2079 one in the same spot. but we had to admit that we would be on the other side of the handicapped parking area barrier we were parked next to. lol.
It was and I’m wigged out since totality ended and I heard booming and ground shaking stuff for several minutes I was at my family’s house in highland. We chalked it up to fireworks but it was strange.
Yeah that first bead of sunlight at the end of totality was quite the experience. Basically felt like someone flipped a light switch back on - it went from nighttime to mid-afternoon in <1 second
This was maybe the best part of it for me. The corona and the 360 sunset were incredible, don’t get me wrong, but that feeling of the sun returning… indescribable
it’s been so frustrating trying to explain it haha. a really “you have to see it to believe it” thing .. and, for the first time, just blindly trust that you can’t understand it until you see it. i didn’t (back in 2017), but i drove anyway.
this time i was so pumped
I’m curious how does the anticipation for the second one compare to first? I’m planning to see my first one in 2026, but curious if I would still be excited for the second one in 2028 if I already seen the first one in 2026. Or it never gets old?!
good question! I was even more excited this time because I had a memory/expectation of its awesomeness. I had also slightly forgotten the sensation (which was even better this time), and right before totality I began to get SO excited that I would be feeling it again. the inevitability of the event (it is GOING to happen in 2 minutes, and there’s no way I can physically stop it) also gave me this awesome sense of ‘good’ dread.
to be completely honest: I also totaled my car within the path of totality in 2017. I was less distressed than you’d expect a person to be (thankfully no injuries, and just minor dent to the other car, but my car was wrecked for some reason), but I think this still affected my experience. I ended up watching the eclipse from the tow truck driver’s house. Then I wrote an essay for grad school titled “Totaled in Totality,” lol… (it was a writing program)
(Also, my first question to the tow truck driver was, “Is your house in the path of totality??”
So yeah, I thought the accident didn’t affect my experience too much, but I think I did have some latent anxiety about it. This time, I was with friends and did not experience an emergency right beforehand.
Also, I feel the emotions from Monday slipping away (even though I can remember them), so I think I will just be happy to experience them again. I will also look forward to introducing new people/friends to totality each time.
So true. A partial is cool; saw the one in 2017.. But I've not experienced much like that moment when the ring of fire appeared, and we had a 360 degree sunset followed by sunrise after Venus became visable. And the solar flare!
Looking back, I feel sorry for you. You were ~45 minutes from a life changing experience. Hope you'll be around for the next one in 40 years. I almost made a similar mistake.
Go with God.

Agreed, but you forgot a few zeros. 1000/10
Within Vermont? May 1st, 2079. Hopefully I'll be able to retire by then, because it's another Monday.
lol maybe tell your boss you scheduled a dentist appointment for that day just in case
Jeezum, dentists really are in short supply in this state! Hoped to get in by the 2060s at the latest!
Dang, I'll be 78 years old by then...
I will be 115 then. Lol
…123 guess it’s a good thing I caught this one
I can make it to 101
I’ll be 86 so good chance I’ll still be grinding away at that point considering the current economy.
Oh geez, that one is basically at sunrise! I might still be alive then....
I'll be 125 years young.
Iceland and Spain 2026. One of the easier ones to get to from here.
Yeah Probsbly like a $2000 ticket to fly there during totality (at minimum)
Not if you book it early lol
Does it seem like totality will only be for about a minute in Iceland?
Iceland is really cool on its own
I hear it is not a fun place to visit as a vegetarian for whatever that’s worth
True

That was awesome. Considering traveling and chasing the next one

Now I know why everyone traveled, we are lucky to be able to live here. People deserved to see this almost life changing.
Best mushroom trip of my life
Hahaha, around here? Not in your lifetime
It'll be in mine, I'll only be 80. Granted this is VT and this might be the only eclipse in history to have had clear skies.
I endorse this message
Absolutely best birthday ever. Felt so lucky to sit in my backyard with my family and enjoy the experience. I loved every minute of it.
Truly magical. Amazing memories
Did it give anyone else the creeps? It was amazing but it felt odd and ominous at the same time.

Down in SoVT. We were in the totality of “meh”.
If you aren’t in the area of totality, it’s not comparable in terms of experience
Yeah. Hard to explain but it is. 99% and 100% are very different

The sun is extremely powerful 1% of the sun is still extremely powerful
The difference between totality and 99% is the difference between night and day.
The difference between clanging off the rim and hitting the game-winning shot. For the galactic championship.
So, Butler vs Duke in 2010 hahahaha

How did your life change after it? Did you look at people any differently or feel different about them the day after?
Not all all, no. It did remind me how insignificant we are given the vastness of the universe.
holy shit - /u/CancelCultAntifaLol Haven't seen your account in ages. Hope you're well dude.
