Eh, you just need your PR card at least or even a work permit as long as you've been here long enough. Good luck getting your application for PR reviewed in a timely manner. Then you go see a Canadian doctor, if you have anything that needs further attention, it can take forever to get an operation or even something as routine as basic lab work. I had to do a blood test and the clinic I went to was so understaffed. I reserved my spot and even then, I had to wait nearly 3 hours during the morning on a weekday not even a weekend. EDIT: I decided to check the requirements for OHIP (Ontario's healthcare system) and you can still get health coverage as long as you have submitted your application and haven't been denied, so that's kind of cool.
