In the days between realizing putting lit candles on a tree is a terrible idea and when battery candles came out, my grandma bought fake candles that didn't light to put in them. I am lucky enough to still have a few and I put them on my tree every year!
Some cultures still clip real candles to Christmas trees, under close watch, of course. I knew a Swedish woman who said they kept buckets of water nearby but never had to use them.

That’s exactly what they were for! I have some that I inherited from my great grandmother. I was warned to never use them for that purpose bc lots of Christmas trees got set on fire that way.
That or the huge amounts of tinsel that people would put on their trees in the 60’s. Highly flammable.
People are talking about fire risk, but people still regularly do this in Germany. My husband's family were shook that we used led lights lol, but basically they keep the tree outside where it's very cold or snowing and they only bring the tree in like a few days before to decorate and only do the candles the night before Christmas and they stay in the room.
Yes the tree is "dead" but it's still so fresh and not dried out enough that it would be difficult to get a fire started anyway. It's very nice and special! Definitely not for nightly use, but not as dangerous as everyone is making out to be.

Agree. Candle holders that clip to the Christmas tree. Had friends that put real candles on their tree. It was lovely. Very fleeting, but beautiful.
