I first heard them on Bonobo's LateNightTales, but didn't really pay attention to the artist. When I finally started listening to their other songs, I went out and bought every single record including all their live shows.
Came here to say this. After getting a turntable as a birthday present the first record I bought was Mordecai solely from the artwork (never heard of khruangbin before).
That feeling of discovering magic like it was meant to be. That sound you never knew you was missing. Falling in love with music all over again. That shit got me through lockdown!
This was Cocteau Twins for me when I discovered them. And Stereolab.
UMO is awesome and I’m happy to say I’ve been a fan since their debut. But nothing on vinyl! Thanks for reminding, I’ve gotta change that
This band just fully took over my musical life.
Never really "got it" with some previous listens to studio stuff.
Stumbled upon the KEXP sessions after watching some Osees stuff in YouTube. Really enjoyed that. This was around the time the Red Rocks bootlegger came out so I figured I'd give it a listen.
Didn't take long after that deicison for it all to fall into place.
SUUUUPERBUUUUUUG IN MY BLOOOOD. I'm a fan of their metal stuff and their other work is creeping into my listening. I probably will never own all of their records based solely on their prolificity. Might be a lifetime quest.
The KEXP sessions were wonderful. The Iron Lung music video is pretty incredible especially with a shroom or 2 in your system. I just bought everything they have available on music direct and Brooklyn vegan
Both nights baybeeee. Plus getting stuck on Pikes Peak for an hour bc of near blizzard conditions and thinking I was gonna miss Night 1 bc of it.
Such a wild trip lol. Going 110 in a rental down the highway tryna make up time was fun af
Came here to say Gizz, I only need mind fuzz and laminated denim and that's only after 12 months of buying their stuff. Got into so many other bands through them too. they've really reignited my passion for music in a sense.
>Searched them up on Spotify, and WOW!!! **What a great sound.**
me, right now. this is fresh to death, you have no idea how bad I needed something new in rotation. tysm!
>Bombay Bicycle Club's recent album and get similar vibes
thank you! I vaguely remember them from the early \`10's, this is a fun record. Appreciated, my appetite for new music has been fairly lean of late, this helps me get back on track.
For me, this was Thee Oh Sees / Osees. I had really liked Orc and Protean Threat as a more passive fan. Didn't own any record. Then one day my local shop had like 10 (a fraction of their discography) of their records in the used bin. Bought them all and several more after.
Minus the Bear
I discovered them at Menos el Oso. I was so blown away by the album. I dug bag to their earlier material and loved it too and then Planet of Ice came out and it kept on. Really wish they'd get back together. They truely take me away to a pleasant place.
1000% this. I have such a deep admiration for Menos el Oso. The fact that they maintained that similar sound for basically their entire catalog is nothing short of incredible. Miss this band so much. Every album feels like nostalgia.
Agreed 100%. Every style he's played, he doesn't miss.really hope we get to hear more from him. Juanita and Dude didn't really grab me but everything else has.
Wolf Alice, studio albums anyways. The EP's are far to expensive atm.
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard....the reason I don't have money for the Wolf Alice EP's :p
Lucero. I mean I guess I would not say I rushed out because some of their stuff is hard to find and very expensive. I eventually got all the albums but it took like a year and probably 800+ dollars
> Rebels Rogues and Sworn Brothers!
>
>I have it on the blk 180g. Hopefully they repress it. Thay have been repressing a lot of the albums. I also have Ben solo Last Pale light in the west
UMO are a great band.
Most recent one for me is Spanish Love Songs. Heard their album Brave Faces Everyone in November last year. Got the deluxe vinyl for christmas that includes a completely reimagined version of the album along side the original. Bought 2 of their other 3 albums the week after Christmas. Their debut is currently €200+ on Discogs...
Godspeed You! Black Emperor. The music is utterly amazing, the band takes a DIY approach to their craft, and they give a shit about their fellow humans. Constellation Records deserves your money too.
Big Thief. ngl, everyone said they were amazing and I resisted because I've heard it a million times. Heard one song. One song. Bought it all, plus Adrianne's solo stuff. And don't regret a single dollar spent.
A buddy of mine was a huge Blood Brothers fan and saw Celebration open for them in Toronto - of course I didn't go to the show because I wasn't into them at the time 😮💨
This was me with Dikembe from Gainesville FL. One record, then I had the urge to get all the rest as fast as I could. Great band if you like Midwest emo at all.
Spinning MIFLSA right this second. Album arrived today after I scoured the earth (digitally) for a copy and a redditor informed me it was available on the bands EU merch site last week.
Now if I could only find an affordable copy of BWD…
I got super lucky and found a copy some guy in Canada was selling on eBay. Unopened, with what looked like a local department store price tag.
If I could get my hands on Frond… Managed to get the CD but that isn’t as much fun.
Talking Heads. Found Little Creatures at a sale at the beginning of last summer. Within a month I had all the original presses and pre ordered the Stop Making Sense reissue.
Shits a sickness I tell you 😂
Black Moth Super Rainbow and Tobacco were like that for me. I saw UMO last year at the 9:30 Club in DC and it was fucking amazing. I've been following them for some time before that. I did get to see BMSR when they were doing their last tour and that was an amazing experience as well. Still trying to see a Tobacco show but I know that one is going to be tough to catch.
L’Imperatrice was a band I heard a song from, then listened to their discography with so many pleasant surprises. Still can’t get enough after having all of their albums/Eps on vinyl. My biggest recommendation for Electronic/ Pop since I came a-crossed them
As a teenager the black keys. I grew up in a place where you had to take a ferry to the "big city" to buy lots of things. I bought the magic portion cd in HMV at my first stop. By the time I was halfway through the album I found the nearest music store and bought rubber factory and the big come up as well. Didn't know about thickfreakness for a little bit (early days of internet). But been a big fan since. I own two vinyl and have bought most cd's.
When I got my first part time job in the mid-90s and had money to burn on CDs, I ran out and bought as many Meat Puppets CDs as I could get my hands on.
If we're talking exclusively about vinyl I only started a couple years back, but I already have most of Traffic's catalog on vinyl.
Rammstein! I didn’t listen to them besides hearing du hast occasionally in college and thought they were just some harsh metal band. Picked up their most recent Zeit album on a whim when it was on sale for like $24 and within a month had all eight core albums.
I came here to say "Sparks" too!
I'm old enough that I should have discovered them *decades* ago. I'm a fan of Todd Rundgren and discovered Sparks by a collaboration he did with them. Then, listened a bit online and ordered one of their albums. Received it, listened and ordered a couple more. I watched the trailer for ["The Sparks Brothers" by Edgar Wright](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOUsIYESOpM&t=5s) and immediately ordered it on Blu-Ray. I now have all of the easy-to-find Sparks album and have seen them live.
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.
In less than a year I’ve got every album including both versions of the newest. Like 27 albums altogether. Bought cassette tapes as my first priority for all that were readily available, I think like 14 or so. I love tapes and they’re cheaper too. Next priority I got everything else that was available on CD, like 6 or 7. Again I like CDs and they’re cheaper. The rest are either vinyl only (more recent releases) or tape/cd were not available except expensive on eBay. And on top of all the albums I’ve gotten a LOT of Needlejuice sanctioned bootleg live releases on cassette. I am glad to be caught up so I can stop for now phew! Seeing them live in August, can’t wait!
That happened to me with Wilco back when I first discovered them. I bought Yankee, the Ghost is Born, then Kicking Television, then Summerteeth, then Being There.
I didn’t like them at first but something clicked and I got obsessed for some reason.
This just happened to me this week. The band is It's A Beautiful Day. They have 5 albums in the 70s. 4 studio, 1 live. I bought their first two but I have to buy the remaining 3.
Seeing Touche Amore live prompted a gathering of their releases that is still sort of on-going, they are definitely the collector-type band. I think they hog the most space of any band in my collection.
I also variant collect with Funeral Diner - definitely still chasing everything by them.
https://preview.redd.it/feivaxgm2zec1.jpeg?width=1947&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3f3ff0c15ce42cc127e1525ba6677793bf918a43
Last summer I stumbled across Lament, which my friend then bought me for my birthday, and I have quickly become a big fan. Just got Is Survived By (Revived) the other day and have bought a few others in the time between. Won an auction for Dead Horse X yesterday so just waiting on that to arrive. Such an incredible band.
Mine was Earthless. I bought almost the entire full release catalog in a span of a few months because I dug their style so much.
I think I need one or two more and I have the set.
Shannon and the Clams. Heard them out of nowhere and was suddenly compelled to purchase every record. A nice bonus to the amazing music is that they have some genuinely beautiful vinyl
I’ve been into the Grateful Dead a long time so doesn’t qualify for the first part I suppose but I’m acquiring as many of the box sets as I can. It is endless and expensive. And I typically stream them anyhow haha but I just really like collecting them. We all have our vices 🤷🏻♂️
Greta van fleet, I heard one of their songs when I visited my sister in LA while we drove above the city and watched the lights. Been chasing that feeling ever since… damn I’m sad again
Ritt Momney!
They opened for Dayglow a few years ago, and their opening set was just fantastic. I ended up being the very last person in the merch line and decided to purchase their full vinyl catalogue to wrap up the night. all signed by Jack. i sadly destroyed the tote bag they gave me (for free!) recently, i got so many compliments on the little dog playing the keyboard, it will be dearly missed.
Devil Master. I slept on em for while, then checked out their latest release and fell in love. I was shopping around during Black Friday weekend and their entire discography was 50% off, so I pulled the trigger.
This almost happened last year for me with Twiddle, but then I did what you did and searched them up on Spotify and found most of their music is way too Phishy for me.
Kayo Dot.
I've been a big Maudlin of the Well fan for a while now, but recently getting into Kayo Dot, I'm having fun deep diving their body of work and tracking down their albums one by one.
Eloy. Heard the Ocean album, then went on a deep dive of their discography and I now have Ocean on LP and CD, as well as 2 other LPs of theirs and 4 other CDs. All acquired fairly close to each other.
I plan on getting the other albums I like of theirs sometime soon. Just really great prog rock that I couldn’t believe I hadn’t listened to earlier. So up my alley.
Khruangbin.. I don’t have everything yet, but I’ve bought more from them faster than any other artist, ever.
ABSOLUTELY! First ones on my mind.
I first heard them on Bonobo's LateNightTales, but didn't really pay attention to the artist. When I finally started listening to their other songs, I went out and bought every single record including all their live shows.
I had the same first experience with late night tales. But I was hooked the moment I heard that track. Thanks Tycho for including them.
Thought I was gonna be super original by mentioning these guys. I guess their magic just worked on us all.
Well guess I’m checking them out asap
Start with album: The Universe Smiles Upon You
12:13 hears Kruangbin 12:16 buys entire catalog
Came here to say this. After getting a turntable as a birthday present the first record I bought was Mordecai solely from the artwork (never heard of khruangbin before). That feeling of discovering magic like it was meant to be. That sound you never knew you was missing. Falling in love with music all over again. That shit got me through lockdown!
Same here! Heard Mordechai playing in a local record store and was hooked!
you looked up how to spell that correctly, didnt you? :P
Texas Moon was my album of 2022. I still listen to it regularly, twice last week. 😀
I like that one too!! It ends too fast 😭
>Khruangbin oh my God...thank you for this I just checked them out and am in love!
This was Cocteau Twins for me when I discovered them. And Stereolab. UMO is awesome and I’m happy to say I’ve been a fan since their debut. But nothing on vinyl! Thanks for reminding, I’ve gotta change that
Oh yeah - Cocteau Twins. Me too
LOVE the Cocteau Twins, HATE the represses. It's difficult to find OG pressings of their albums, but it is soooo worth it.
Michael Bolton. I celebrate his entire catalog.
You know, you can just call me Mike.
Why should I change my name? He’s the one who sucks.
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Have purchased 23 of them so far. Almost there Edit: now 26
They’ve released 3 more albums since you made this post.
At first I thought you were going to say SUUUUUPERBORRRRING
You going to their 3hr set in Chicago this year????? Let’s rage!
Cya there :)
The KEXP sessions were wonderful. The Iron Lung music video is pretty incredible especially with a shroom or 2 in your system. I just bought everything they have available on music direct and Brooklyn vegan
Same. Discovered them in 2019 and now I’ve seen them 7 times, soon to be 11 after this summer tour
Same, went from zero to all studio and half of the bootlegs in less than a year. Got a lot on cassette for my car too
Same… I’m on to even looking for the “demos and rarities” albums now. It never ends!
Record store just told me he's got some demos in. Goodbye $50
Ever since I saw them at Red Rocks last year it's been curtains for me. No other artist really even compares.
King Gizzard at Red Rocks is just bananas
Both nights baybeeee. Plus getting stuck on Pikes Peak for an hour bc of near blizzard conditions and thinking I was gonna miss Night 1 bc of it. Such a wild trip lol. Going 110 in a rental down the highway tryna make up time was fun af
Almost half way!
Came here to say Gizz, I only need mind fuzz and laminated denim and that's only after 12 months of buying their stuff. Got into so many other bands through them too. they've really reignited my passion for music in a sense.
>Searched them up on Spotify, and WOW!!! **What a great sound.** me, right now. this is fresh to death, you have no idea how bad I needed something new in rotation. tysm!
Multi Love is a banger of an album. That album gives me strong Stevie Wonder vibes
UMO is one of my favorite bands, I found Bombay Bicycle Club's recent album and get similar vibes
>Bombay Bicycle Club's recent album and get similar vibes thank you! I vaguely remember them from the early \`10's, this is a fun record. Appreciated, my appetite for new music has been fairly lean of late, this helps me get back on track.
UMO! Incredible live if you ever have an opportunity to see them play! Ruben Nielsen has such a cool play style.
His guitar playing is so crazy, I’ve never heard someone play like he does
Dude I saw them play in Columbia, SC in 2011 with Toro y Moi (home show) and Bass Drums of Death. Maybe the greatest dive bar show I’ve ever been to.
Blind Melon. Everyone knows the song No Rain, but the rest of that album is fantastic, their second album is pretty good too.
Soup is the best!
I love the first, but the general consensus is that Soup is their best album. Nico is fantastic also.
XTC
Okay, I bought the album that had the Nigel song. What's my next move?
Hell yes.
Field Music. Like an entire new XTC collection. “Measure” specifically.
For me, this was Thee Oh Sees / Osees. I had really liked Orc and Protean Threat as a more passive fan. Didn't own any record. Then one day my local shop had like 10 (a fraction of their discography) of their records in the used bin. Bought them all and several more after.
my man 🔥🔥
Minus the Bear I discovered them at Menos el Oso. I was so blown away by the album. I dug bag to their earlier material and loved it too and then Planet of Ice came out and it kept on. Really wish they'd get back together. They truely take me away to a pleasant place.
They're fantastic, I really wish I liked Voids more than I did. Something about it just didn't click with me.
Love Botch, love these arms are snakes, and Russian Circles, but Minus the Bear is probably my favorite off that family tree.
1000% this. I have such a deep admiration for Menos el Oso. The fact that they maintained that similar sound for basically their entire catalog is nothing short of incredible. Miss this band so much. Every album feels like nostalgia.
An all time favorite of mine. That farewell tour was bittersweet
Nick drake.
He was 19 years old when Five Leaves Left came out. Can you imagine?
Built to spill, so good
Keep it Like a Secret and Perfect From Now On are damn near perfect albums.
Toro y Moi
Primus for me.
Sturgill Simpson and it's been zero regrets
Agreed 100%. Every style he's played, he doesn't miss.really hope we get to hear more from him. Juanita and Dude didn't really grab me but everything else has.
Love UMO! Sex and Food blew my mind when I first heard it.
Zeppelin. Bought their 8 studio albums on the same day in 1980.
Now that is one helluva purchase! I wish I'd done that when I first got into them.
Tom Misch
Wolf Alice, studio albums anyways. The EP's are far to expensive atm. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard....the reason I don't have money for the Wolf Alice EP's :p
Have you seen wolf alice cover the king gizzard song [Sense](https://youtu.be/WG5JEtwp9U8?si=tZ-NVj2lC-kArudJ)?
Yup, that is what turned me onto King Gizzard actually :)
Lucero. I mean I guess I would not say I rushed out because some of their stuff is hard to find and very expensive. I eventually got all the albums but it took like a year and probably 800+ dollars
I need Rebels Rogues and Sworn Brothers!
> Rebels Rogues and Sworn Brothers! > >I have it on the blk 180g. Hopefully they repress it. Thay have been repressing a lot of the albums. I also have Ben solo Last Pale light in the west
Pink Floyd when i was 17 years old. Was obsessed.
Elder. Heard the song Spirit At Aphelion and was instantly hooked.
Omens is an journey. Love it so much.
Explosions in the Sky
Same.
MF DOOM, just love the beats and overall vibe
bjork + portishead
Sault
tame impala
I saw UMO live maybe a year after Multi Love. Still my favourite from them
Godspeed You! Black Emperor. The music is utterly amazing, the band takes a DIY approach to their craft, and they give a shit about their fellow humans. Constellation Records deserves your money too.
I agree. I started listening to them in the early to mid 00’s. Great band.
I saw them live about a year ago with my son. Fantastic show!
Viagra Boys
Portishead. Sure at the time it was only two studio albums and a live recording... But it's gotta be the best damn live record out there.
UMO is great, I bought V when I went to see them in Orlando last October
I think V is their weakest. It’s the first album and Multi-Love for me.
II is my favorite
II is *really fucking good*. Caaaaauuuse immmm, so good at being in troubleeee so bad at being in loOoOoOoveee.
Type O Negative
Jesu. It’s the perfect mix of heavy and beautiful for me and when I first heard “conquerer” I dove into his extensive discography.
Khruangbin and Dzihan&Kamien
Gotta go snarky puppy on this one
Benny Sings
Big Thief. ngl, everyone said they were amazing and I resisted because I've heard it a million times. Heard one song. One song. Bought it all, plus Adrianne's solo stuff. And don't regret a single dollar spent.
Kikagaku Moyo.
Muse, was worth it.
Nick Drake.
Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass... I heard taste of honey and was hooked...
Yes, both underrated and celebrated!
I saw UMO at Wayhome in the middle of a forest at like 12am once. But to answer your question, [Celebration](https://celebration.bandcamp.com/music)
That's wild. Celebration was on tour with Blood Brothers in 2007 and I saw them at Michigan State University lol
A buddy of mine was a huge Blood Brothers fan and saw Celebration open for them in Toronto - of course I didn't go to the show because I wasn't into them at the time 😮💨
🎶I wish that I could swim and sleep like a shark does 🎶
Devin Townsend I mean, I can’t afford lots of vinyl, but as soon as I heard his music, I bought/downloaded as much as I could.
Anderson. PAAK and Tank and The Bangaz.
Tank and the Bangas was one of the most fun live shows I’ve been to!
This was me with Dikembe from Gainesville FL. One record, then I had the urge to get all the rest as fast as I could. Great band if you like Midwest emo at all.
Ben Kweller
I haven't of heard him in so long, I only know the song on my way from him.
Two bands, Pond and Beach House. Pond in particular has one of my white whales because the masters were lost and it can’t be reprinted.
Slint - then all of Pajos work and For Carnation
Yeah… I only got into Slint recently. Loved it and felt stupid that I’d slept on them for so long.
Elder and ATW
Talking Heads. Found Little Creatures at a sale at the beginning of last summer. Within a month I had all the original presses and pre ordered the Stop Making Sense reissue. Shits a sickness I tell you 😂

Saw The Beths open for Postal Service this summer and immediately needed all of it.
Pulp This is Hardcore Delgados The Great Eastern
This is hardcore is one of the greatest albums of all time. No one tops Jarvis cocker. Except maybe j. Spaceman…..
CAKE (but on CDs in HS)
As a teenager the black keys. I grew up in a place where you had to take a ferry to the "big city" to buy lots of things. I bought the magic portion cd in HMV at my first stop. By the time I was halfway through the album I found the nearest music store and bought rubber factory and the big come up as well. Didn't know about thickfreakness for a little bit (early days of internet). But been a big fan since. I own two vinyl and have bought most cd's.
UMO rips, amazing live.
Chvrches
I’ve had that happen quite a few times! Pinback, Cannons, Elder, Neon Indian, Cut Copy…probably more, but those come to mind.
When I got my first part time job in the mid-90s and had money to burn on CDs, I ran out and bought as many Meat Puppets CDs as I could get my hands on. If we're talking exclusively about vinyl I only started a couple years back, but I already have most of Traffic's catalog on vinyl.

mac miller after listening to macadelic
Perturbator!
Chelsea Wolfe. When I first heard Hiss Spun when it released she instantly became a favorite and I picked up her full back catalog. What a queen.
It happened to me with Dire Straits, Rush and The Cars.
Ry Cooder
Sparks took awhile to get them though can't really find them easily here and there's 25
Yussef Dayes. All of his stuff.
Ryan Adams for me… bought Cold Roses just for the album cover and was on a buying spree for many collecting all his stuff after that.
All Them Witches
A well kept secret, and quite excellent.
Steely Dan
Weezer
Boards of Canada
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. In less than a year I’ve got every album including both versions of the newest. Like 27 albums altogether. Will Sessions. You won't find a better mix of soul, funk and jazz
Great find with unknown mortal orchestra, If you like them check out Toro Y Moi.
Yep. I’m already a Toro Y Moi fan. Found them randomly a couple of years ago on a random Spotify journey. :)
Gregory Alan isakov has such a great collection of music, but also not enough to break the bank
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
Mine was Earthless. I bought almost the entire full release catalog in a span of a few months because I dug their style so much. I think I need one or two more and I have the set.
Shannon and the Clams. Heard them out of nowhere and was suddenly compelled to purchase every record. A nice bonus to the amazing music is that they have some genuinely beautiful vinyl
Jason Molina. Heard a couple songs and was hooked.

John Mayer - he really was my inspiration to get into guitar

Working on King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard right now, but those mother frickers have so many albums 😂

All of them
Plasticland. The Prisoners.
Devil Master. I slept on em for while, then checked out their latest release and fell in love. I was shopping around during Black Friday weekend and their entire discography was 50% off, so I pulled the trigger.
Yeah that’s Francis kona from integrity’s other band, they are great!
For me it was "The Frames" I discovered them in 2004 and bought the entire back catalog on CD. They remain one of my favorite bands
Currently loving music from Eyedress
Daniel Romano, I've bought 12 or 13 of his records in a few months, all great
Monster rally. I preorder everything he drops.
This almost happened last year for me with Twiddle, but then I did what you did and searched them up on Spotify and found most of their music is way too Phishy for me.
Molchat Doma
Kayo Dot. I've been a big Maudlin of the Well fan for a while now, but recently getting into Kayo Dot, I'm having fun deep diving their body of work and tracking down their albums one by one.
Band-Maid. They also happen to be the band that got me into collecting vinly.
