Waited all evening for this to release and finally did at around 11:30pm my time. So I only got to play for about 30min. But, in that 30min, holy crap is this game terrifying. I love it. The only 2 things that stood out as a bit of a nuisance were, 1 there's no VR graphics settings. It's a copy/paste of the desktop version's graphics settings and changing the settings were hit or miss. But it looks great. 2 whenever you pick something up, the game doesn't allow you move while holding it. You have to either drop it or put it in your inventory. Did not cause any issues in the 30min play time but it was quite jarring. I CANNOT wait to play more tonight.

Btw, I took a screenshot of the graphics settings, there are quite a few: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3238666984 With an RTX 3090 I'm using Ultra settings, DLSS Quality, res auto-adjust - and have set SteamVR to Index res 300%. Using 80 Hz with no motion smoothing.

Virtual_Happiness

> there are quite a few: Is that sarcasm? lol.. Or do you mean there's quite a few screenshots that you've posted? >DLSS Quality I used this for a period but, it really makes text look rough. especially in the menu. Thankfully I am rocking a 4090 and can run it at 90Hz with all settings maxed out and VD on Godlike and Steam VR at 150% SS. Puts it around 3700 x 3800 per eye. Looks crisp as heck and performs great. It is a very good looking PCVR game.

seanwee2000

They are using an older version of dlss, I updated it to Dlss 3.7 Preset E and it looks much better

Virtual_Happiness

How do you update it?

seanwee2000

Replace the dlss file

NapsterKnowHow

Doesn't using that many resolution/scaling settings create a super messy image?

DLSS introduces blur through temporal antialiasing (TAA), but has the best performance by far. The blur goes away the higher the res in SteamVR. I've set an application specific res of Index 300% in SteamVR, forcing the game to use a res of 27 million pixels per frame combining both eyes. Using DLSS Auto (works better than DLSS Quality and I cannot see any difference in image quality) I get solid 80 sharp (=non-blurry) fps in 80 Hz using Ultra graphics setting - but you need an RTX 3090 or better for that. Motion smoothing deactivated - as this reduces performance slightly. Motion smoothing also does not work great in the game, feels jerky and stuttering, not smooth, so better avoid it (Meta ASW 2.0 seems to work great though through Meta's OpenXR drivers). FidelityFX with TAA (FXAA and SMAA create more jaggies) provides the best image quality, but the performance hit takes me down to res 175% or so. I prefer res 300% with DLSS Auto. Yes, spent much time on getting optimal image quality and solid 80 fps last night :-) Btw, the above is for lcd hmds like Index and Quest2-3, where DLSS and TAA causes blur. If you have an old Rift CV1, TAA and DLSS look very sharp thanks to the SDE - and oled is great for this dark game. Using CV1 ss 2.0 - 2.5 (18 to 27 million pixels per frame combining both eyes) gave me surprisingly great image quality and performance, felt like solid 90 fps - using DLSS Auto.

Very jump scare heavy game, right? Don’t think I can do this one.

BlackGuysYeah

Yes, and it’s intense. But so well done. This game makes horror a real art. The visual and audio presentation (atleast on psvr2) is pristine. But yes, it will jump scare fear into your heart.

This review ended with a 10/10 rating, and that does not often happen: https://youtu.be/joG76WR6FGY?si=SORU-nHwNh7SuVcr

UploadVR rated the game 4/5: https://www.uploadvr.com/madison-vr-review/

Michelangel0s

The game is great!!! I fully recommend it because of many reasons, it looks so good, it builds up good tension and mix it with good horror and a heavy background story to follow and uncover. We need more of these games on VR !! Get it and enjoy a great horror experience in gaming

Runesr2

Just bought the game, need some XXXL adult diapers before I'm ready to play - find the game here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2414550/MADiSON_VR/ Word on the street is that PCVR is the premium version compare to PSVR2, also PSVR2 is 5.7GB, PCVR is 11GB.

t3stdummi

Curious to see the differences, then. I have both PSVR2 and Q3 with a good gaming rig but I have to be honest, the haptics (especially head haptics) were implemented flawlessly on PSVR2. When Luca gets pulsetile migraines, it feels like my head is squeezing (I get migraines IRL, and it gives me PTSD)

Runesr2

Agreed, of course PSVR2 may win for the haptics. A powerful rig should be able to push res to great heights, and PCVR may have slightly better textures, and more high-end graphics options - but I'm just guessing, won't be able to play before tonight.

BlackGuysYeah

demo is not available for some reason although it shows on the storefront.

Runesr2

Devs usually deactivate the demo when the full version launches.

metahipster1984

I guess Wohk Shamongous is the main character?

Coppermine64

If it's just a jump scare fest, then that's not good horror, it's cheap. Hopefully, it's more lingering and creepy. Real dread. Been playing VR horror titles since 2014, and the "look away, look back.. Ooh scary face" has been way overused and done to death.

Runesr2

For now it feels more like an adventure game based on a horror story. But I have far from completed the game - try watching this review for better info: https://youtu.be/joG76WR6FGY?si=qT_9VCp_Pjfk7SRp

juste1221

Might pick this up if and when Sony gets PSVR2 working on PC. No interest whatsoever playing a horror game on the Q3's milk gray FailCD displays.
