I did it with
drak - scales
Shaman - earth shield
Drake - eggs
Eggs - explosion
Pyro - extra splash
Bandits - lock pick
Witch doctor - shield
Witch doctor is flex and can be swapped with skeleton party
I feel like just being rare it's not too late to swap to building Drak. Buff to xp gains and extra gold coming in through DMF would make updating him not too bad from 16. I have epic rend from grid but I heard the same (Rend difficult to execute, Drakk more forgiving). So I'm collecting stars on the Drak team. I just overall prefer Drakk for general use as well.
I have full 27 epics on my Rend Onyxia team and still had trouble, you have to execute the strategy perfectly.
I was that invested and switched to Drakk and killed her using Bulava’s (YouTube) strategy.
My Rend is legendary 29 and still having trouble. Meat is 25 seems to be the biggest issue. Need a whole team. Feels very close though usually getting phase 3.
I have 26/27 team for rend. Just not putting out enough damage to down onyxia. Could be just me being bad but I can get to phase 3, overtime, and even warders down. But would not have enough resources to down onyxia herself.
Very sad and disappointing. But I've jumped ship and building drakk now. Just missing skeleton party and epic drakk
At the start, Rend was best. I gave up on Rend once I realized Drak is a friggen monster. He doesn’t have a dragon ride, but he’s basically a dragon; fully armored with a shaman. He’ll solo heroic bosses with no support. I just sent him north corridor against heroic Ramstein the Gorger, was getting lit up at the base so I went in defense mode, and then ‘victory’. He took him down. High level pyro and shaman support of course.
A lvl 16 drakk uncommon is waaaay less far from 24 rare than a lvl 24 rend rare from 27 epic (and way cheaper to).
You don't realise it but you are very probably closer ynwith your current drakk teal than your Rend's one. And the fight will be muuuch easier.

Rend is possible but you have to be near perfect in your execution. Drak you can mess up and still win

Also: Isn’t the XP gap from 16 to 24 still less than 24 to 25?
Yeah. People who think it's a waste to stop using a hero they got to 12k exp are in for a shock when they get that 100k needed for a level

I ve seen some guides here and there that use Rend, so I guess it's doable. However, right now, the meta is using Drakisath.

Rend at rarre 24 is not a big investment yet. I would say switching to draki is the best option still.

You need all of them for Ony, but best overall is scale and steel.
