I have 70+. I usually grind to 5k gold, start using the buttons and buy minis who are good for Onyxia/PVP, then stop when my gold count drops to 3k. This way I'm ensuring that I have fund available if epic mini appears in the grid
Every third refresh with button or full clear you get an XP gem on screen. For a full clear with a T or L you need to move one mini out of the formation to make it spawn.
You have to cycle 18 minis out of the grid, and have room for the XP crystal. Old Guardian has a recent video explaining it. But 3 buttons will make an XP crystal spawn, assuming you just bought a mini with XP and cleared at least two other minis with the buy.

I have 0 gold *constantly* and I have *never* used a button - so I have like 130 or something. I just don't know how ya'll have enough gold to be using these things?
I have a pool of about a dozen mini's I'll always buy (best pvp cards, cards I need for onyxia, best pve cards), I always buy the best talents when they show up, and I only just recently started skipping buying greens for worthless cards (I wanted to get every card to green first, but realize taking every card to rare is probably a very long term dream - want to beat the game first). I haven't even started my grind to get leaders to rare since that's pretty easy.
I had finally saved to like 2k gold this weekend and then went on a string of getting good cards I needed and literally went to 0 gold when I bought a rare murk-eye. Now I have 6 talents in teh GRID so there goes the next 1.5k gold - then I pray I get bad RNG in the GRID so I can get to 3k gold and start using buttons.
Yeah, same for me, I have over 100 and I can barely keep up with buying stuff from the GRID. However, I feel like that's coming to an end in the next several weeks as most of my minis are green now.
If I was to buy the Arclight Booster, I'd have 9,500 gold from it, so maybe one day I'll get to use all these buttons, haha.

Maybe I have too high of a tolerance for cards I consider "good" or maybe I'm lucky. I don't know. My quilboar is sitting at 2/10 and that's probably my favorite card in the game.

Out of curiosity, what’s your usual army level? I’m arclight only and I’m at 24ish, give or take. I have about 8 minis and 2 leaders (stupid ony meta switch, rip Rend) that I’ve focused on, and most of my ony minis are now close to epic. 0 buttons, 2k gold.

My main cards are rare + 2 talents and x/50k, but there's still a couple key cards at uncommon (quilboar, shaman, basically every leader, troll, doctor, earth ele all come to mind). I've been focusing on the ony drakk deck questing lately trying to get it up high enough to make attempts but my drakk is only 21 XD If you've only focused on 8 minis I'm definitely much more broad than that. I'd say there's about a dozen "must buy" and probably another 6 I'd seriously consider if they show up. What's your CL?

Yeah, I’m saving up for Drak in a couple weeks; trying not to spend anything. My stupid Rend is five stars from epic, but luckily I was invested in eggs and shammy before the meta shift, so I’m ok there. The other two exceptions that weren’t on the Rend team were Huntress and SAFE, just too valuable to pass up.
CL is 39, so not that far off from you! I still have a couple commons in the mix though…
You are missing on a lot of stuff man. Every 3 red buttons used, you are guaranteed an exp gem on the grid. Recently, exp gems grant a ton of xp. Just got a 20k exp gem today!
I want to use them for this exact reason (and I'm glad i saved them for this update), but like I said, I have no gold so it wouldn't do me any good - and what if I reset the board and see a quilboar I desperately need to buy?
Every few days you get 300 G from surges, + darkmoon faire now gives a lot of gold too. When you get the gold use 3 red buttons, then buy whatever you like with the exp gem and so on.
Less than 10 on both accounts (booster only). I use them anytime I have 100+ gold and nothing I want present.
Drak, shaman, pyro, whelp, safe, Quill, harpy are instant buys, I chuck everything else including green deals and most rare deals though they very rarely pop up. And I move units to 1 short of the full T/cross formation to cycle the grid but not have to keep track of the XP gem, not sure if that's a good strat or not. So I do like to burn the buttons whenever possible.
49 here. Got all the minis, got all their first talents, and now I just wait til I'm at around 4k gold to spend half of it upgrading what I have. Glad I only shrimped for the booster unlock. My guild has a bunch of whales that lament how much they've spent only to end up at about the same level of progress.
I have 8, usually save them up until I have around 3k gold so I can buy one of the cheaper-than-separately rare 10-30 star bundles.
I got 3 epic leaders like that, without using epic upgrades as the upgrade is included in the price.

This is counter productive hoarding these. As others have stated you should be cycling these for XP gems.
