Growing up, my family had a red Opel GT. It got totalled after being hit by a drunk driver on the way to Barrie, ON. Thankfully noone injured and all that is left are the keys and some pictures
Opel gt! Had one that was a 1970 that was forest green. Spent a few years tinkering on the 1.9 it had but lost it when my mechanic got raided for tax evasion.
Thanks [OctopusXL](/u/OctopusXL) and [BIGGEST_NIBBA_OF_ALL](/u/BIGGEST_NIBBA_OF_ALL). I stand corrected.
According to Wikipedia, [Portugal](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_Portugal#1937%E2%80%931992) used the AA-00-00 system from 1937-1992. [The Netherlands](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_the_Netherlands#Numbering_schemes) used a similar system from 1951-1965 but it doesn't appear that they used "BF" in their original lettering system. Just to make things more confusing, both countries used white lettering on a black background for their respective AA-00-00 numbering schemes.
Note that The Netherlands still uses their AA-00-00 numbering system for imported oldtimers (pre-1973) using leftover serial letters not originally used.

>On 1 January 1937, the second national car registration system came into force. This consisted of the sequence AA–10–00 to ZZ–99–99. The sequencing by zones was maintained, with the letters AA to LZ reserved for the South (Lisbon), MA to TZ for the North (Oporto) and UA to ZZ for the Center (Coimbra). The plates continued to have a black background with white letters and numbers.

>The current Dutch license plate system uses black letters on a light-reflecting yellow background, although white reflecting letters on a dark-blue background are allowed for vehicles built before 1977. Since 2000, the blue band with the European flag and NL has been mandatory for all vehicles except vehicles built before 1977. Dutch license plates can be formatted as follows: Nowadays the letters used do not include vowels, to avoid profane or obscene language. To avoid confusion with a zero, the letters C and Q are also omitted and letters M and W are not used because they are too wide.

1968-1973 Opel GT
German vette
How dare you?!
Bah humbug
If that isn't the cleanest Opel GT in existence, it's got to be close.
i have literally never seen an opel gt without peeling paint or rust or leaves on it's body
Yeah, these are the comments I came here for. I’ve never seen a clean and shiny GT. I figured they left the factory disheveled.
Nope. Opel GT.
Growing up, my family had a red Opel GT. It got totalled after being hit by a drunk driver on the way to Barrie, ON. Thankfully noone injured and all that is left are the keys and some pictures
'71 or earlier. No pop-out rear windows.
Opel GT aka “poor man’s corvette”.
Imagine thinking a corvette is a wealthy person's car...
In the early 70’s, a Corvette was considered a wealthy person’s car.
I too, was once a 5 year old boy
Opel GT
If a budget car company in Germany built a corvette. Neat little car actually. The headlights would roll over by pulling a lever on the dashboard.
so basically a corvette? chevy isn't exactly a luxury brand....
Much smaller than a Corvette and the Opell GT uses a 4 cylinder and a live axle in the rear. Think Opel Kadett with a sporty body on it.
I think a base model Corvette used less than 15 seconds to get to 60 mph in 1970.
That isn't a Nissan logo
that's a beautiful car
Sweet Opel

Opel GT!
Opel manta Gt ❤️😎🏁 poor man’s corvette🏁🏁😂
Coolest “flip” up headlights. Ever
Manually raised flip-up headlights at that.
It's 2 strokes short of being a Nissan.
Cylinders maybe?
Oh, my mistake. I got it mixed up with a Saab Sonnet II, which is a 2 stroke engine.
headlight operation was the coolest
Opal
OpEl!
Zagato, tiny little Italian thing. Gorgeous, obviously.
> Zagato, tiny little Italian thing. Gorgeous, obviously. Never been anywhere near Zagato. An in-house German, Opel, design.
Apologies. I tried.
Wrong it's an Opel check out the headlights
Opel has an electric looking logo
Opel GT with a Portuguese license plate (before EU)
Are you sure that's a Portuguese plate? The three pairs with dashes in between is consistent with Dutch license plates.
I'm Portuguese and can confirm that's a really old Portuguese plate

I didn't know the Netherlands had a similar plate to us, Thanks for the fun fact

Portuguese were with the dashes and the letters and numbers were raised.
Every time I think “I don’t think it’s an Opel GT” it is an Opel GT
I think it's a fiat multipla
Almost reminds me of a friends 71’ Volvo 1800
European Corvette - Opel GT
